Must do "mods" for the duke 690: Under the seat there is a switch controlling the throttle response, change that to "2" and the throttle changes completely!
Then put on a 15 teeth front sprocket (stock is 16)
Here are some more things you should get:
    - Oberon clutch slave since the OEM is faulty, it leaks oil into the engine causing you to suddenly have no clutch.
    - Kev's O2 mod which smoothes out the throttle.
I bought my duke 690(2013) in 2018 and I still have it in 2024. It's now done 55k miles (90k km) and I've had some issues.
(2019) First the fuel filter got clogged and the bike wouldn't start, new filter easy fix. (2019)
(2019) Bike was running bad and I checked everything only to find out that the OEM filter I purchased was leaking (I blame mahle who makes the filter), new filter easy fix.
(2023) Had no issues for 4 years, but then the bike started smoking a lot from the exhaust at random times. It was the caused the piston rings shattering allowing oil to go past them(I suspect it was caused by me since I put 10w-60 CAR oil instead of motorcycle oil at the last oil change, lesson learnt) Changed piston and rings, you have to remove the engine from the bike, but not that difficult if you have some experience
(2023) At that same time the bike started to run really poorly and get very hot quickly. I did some googling and it turned out to be a oil "valve" in the bottom of the engine (just a little leaf oneway valve). I think maybe some debris from the piston rings blocked the valve causing the oil to pool in the crankcase, creating a lot of resistance. I had to tear the entire engine apart and changed that little "valve". After that no issues.
All in all the 690 is an amazing bike, super light and nimble and plenty of power. There are some common issues (clutch slave) but they are easily fixed. I definiltely recommend this bike to both new and experienced riders!

I own a 2008 Duke 690. It seems to ride and sound the same as the one in this video. Like you, I absolutely love the nimble, light feeling this bike gives. And the styling! If I’m going short distances around town, it’s my favorite choice. But anything more than 20 minutes on the freeway is terrible. Feels like ur riding a sewing machine.

Thanks for a great review. I am looking at a 2013 KTM just like yours except it has only 1500 miles on it. I want to add it to my stable to join my 2017 Kawasaki x300 Versys which has proven to be the perfect motorcycle. I think these KTM Supermoto Thumpers will make a great addition to fit my downsizing from my big R1200C and GS BMW motorcycles.

Like we talked about before, it's the little things when trying to sell a bike, like what condish is the chain in, it'll almost always show how the bike was cared for but being that new and getting a good deal should be an easy flip. I think the bike is fresh as heck, never had one but I thought it was going to be torquier than the FZ since the Super Puke is ridiculous, as in you can't keep the front wheel down if you try. All in all if the if the whole bike is stock than I believe it's a more appealing sale. Rock on dude

    • @JonsMotoGarage
      @JonsMotoGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Exactly! All about the little details. Spec-wise, the fz07 and ktm are about the same, so I'm not sure what the deal is. But there's no doubt the fz07 is WAY easier for wheelies. Maybe the gearing or power delivery of the single cylinder vs parallel twin? I'd love to try out the super duke 1290. I imagine that one would be a truly wild ride.

So just a few bits of info for you about the Duke 690. Under the passenger seat there is a throttle map setting dial. It has 3 maps from factory, similar to rain, road, sport. Just look up which does which, can't remember off hand, I love mine in sport.
Speaking of the seat it needs to be changed to the powerparts seat, or something similar. The oem seat doesn't allow for moving back, which sucks for taller people.
Definitely change the exhaust! Changes the whole character of the bike. Personally I went with the gpr nero full system with catalyzer, though plenty of options out there!

  • @yomamaa13

You are shifting way too early. KTM engines are made to be revved hard (high compression) since the actual powerband is much higher than what you are using. You should be nearing the limiter(without bouncing) each shift, to properly use the power the bike has to offer. Practice your wheelies since the Duke is MORE than capable of doing wheelies. Anything else is just gear bogging it. The bike has the same power and lighter than the FZ and you are also comparing a single cylinder to a twin. The Duke spanks the FZ on the track and has a ton of torque coming out of the turn. Its a better bike than the FZ hands down and a true track machine in experienced hands. The duke is faster and more agile bike than the FZ its just not noob friendly because its a track bike and requires experience. Go out and actually ride it hard like it was meant to be ridden and you will see what I'm talking about. You have alot to learn.
