      Everything on TV is utter crap because there are twats that tell the producers what they want. Those twats have no clue but they're the ones with the money.

      TV ruins the soul from channels like this. They would have to have a break to talk about a sponsor or their product, tone down the dirty humor that we all love, and be produced by people out to make money. The good thing about YT is that there are no rules or regulations that crush creativity (besides the whole ad-sense thing I guess)

    I live in Japan now and bought my first motorbike last year. I was considering getting the KTM but the reliability issue is what killed it for me, I got the R3 instead. Everyone I know here who has owned a KTM Duke or RC390 has told me about its issues and here in Japan there aren't many shops that can service KTM bikes leading to higher upkeep costs and general pain in the ass.
    My R3 is an excellent commuting bike and fun on those day trips on the weekends, not to mention its rock solid reliability.
    And yes, the R3 is a stepping stone to something bigger like a R6 or ZX-6R but I feel like I'll definitely keep it around as my daily commute.

    I race a Yamaha R3 in the British Junior Supersport and I have also raced the RC 390 in the KTM cup but I found the Yamaha handling was better, however lacks on speed and mid range punch. Not sure how similar RC is to the duke other than the handlebars and fairing, but I would have an R3 over KTM.

  • @beanwithbaconmegarocket
    @beanwithbaconmegarocket 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The r3 is a lot of fun at the track. But it's badly in need of suspension and tire upgrades, especially for riders over 120 lbs. And once you take off the fender and replace the blinkers, mirrors, and windscreen, the r3 really does look great. The used market is so good for these bikes. Sure the Kawi 400 is a better bike, but you can't find one a couple years old for under $3k.

    I have a 2020 390 Duke and I love it. I got it second hand from an old guy, 2 years old and only 1,200 km on the clock. Basically brand new and I got an amazing deal on it. The previous owner had core drilled the baffle out of the exhaust and it sounds way meatier than standard without being unbearably loud. It sounds kinda like a dirt bike. I love it. I have been shopping for my next bike, maybe a 790 Duke, but every time I ride the 390 (which is almost every day because I commute on it) then I realise that I don't need a new bike, this thing is frickn awesome and I love it.

    What you don't consider is the long trip capability. In the USA we have many high speed tarmac, and R3 gives you wind protection. Also it hold to sport saddlebags in the rear, a tank bag, and for long trips a top bag in the rear. I agree with the short comings, and I found an aftermarket seat was absolutely necessary for a 400 mile one day trip. Metzeler Sportec M7RR 110/70 front but a wider 150/60 rear tyre makes a serious difference in all aspects of the bike.

    One thing i was thinking about is the fact that the Duke 390 can be ridden anywhere in the world comfortably and it's absolutely beautiful anywhere in the world - in cities that have limited infrastructure, offroad, highways, in the himalayas and the Himachal Pradesh, in bad traffic, on poor roads and even on great roads it's fun as the power comes early and it can be thrashed around. True all rounder.

    Watched this when it came out, just bought a ktm 390 duke and saw this video appear again, got to agree with everything Al and Chris said, by far the most fun I have had on a bike in a long time. And for the price I paid i'm astounded at how good it is.

      Hey Nick. Good choice, I've got a Daytona 600 and have just bought a 390 Duke. It's early days for me as it's not even had it's 1st service yet but I'm struggling with no power and really jumpy at low revs - in slow traffic I have to drop down to 1st as it's unrideable in 2nd below 4K. Is this normal? Cheers

    • @FinleyTube2017
      @FinleyTube2017 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      999pez yep, it's normal, just had mine serviced and it feels a lot better now, but not 100%. Keep it revving higher... I'm guessing the bike used on this video was before the first service?? I suggest they get it serviced and then take it out. I wouldn't say its a different beast, but it's more rideable and fun as you have more rev range to play with.

    • @999pez
      @999pez 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nick. Yes, I can't wait for 1st service so I can open it up.

      i have the 390 duke also, yeah in lower revs under 5k its shuddering alot, but above 5k revs its very fun to ride

      @@999pez I own a duke 390 as well.
      And yes, it's really jumpy in traffic and not a lot of punch in the low revs.
      Here's an amazing solution and even better,is that it's extremely cheap.
      The Duke 390 comes with a 15 teeth front sprocket but the Duke 250 comes with a 14 teeth front sprocket.
      It's an simple swap and also completely eliminates the jerkiness and makes riding in traffic,in 2nd gear so much better.
      Highly recommend it.
      Here in India,the sprocket from the 250 costs 195 rupees.
      So I guess like 3ish pounds.

      My 2015 model had an ecu issue where the bike ran so lean, the engine did an emergency shutoff after idling 5 minutes on a cold engine, it would already be at operating temp after 2 minutes of idle. That was fixed by the dealer however, she works great now :)

    what would be cool is a A2 naked shootout between the 390 duke and the honda cb500F as thats on the limit for the A2 restriction

    That 390 looks like a right hoot - not sure what the point in a racebike look on a 300 is really, but variety is the spice and all that I guess.

    I would definitely get the new R3 because of overall quality feel, looks and highway-ability.
    The 390 is a riot with such a good engine but when I test rode it, it kept feeling like it was about to brake. It surely was not but it felt like it.
    I just hope that the engine on the R3 is not going to get boring to quickly and that the position will not be to radical coming from a Yamaha MT125.

    Baron has been matching his bikes to his boots of late, or is it the other way around. Orange for the Duke 390, green for the ZX7R. Think it influences his opinion ;-P
