    Switch off all the things which make it an R and go for the R over the base model. That makes sense.

      you mean switch off the adjustable suspension, the better brakes and the akra too?

    An MT-07 compared to the Duke R, when you upgrade the Suspension to the Duke R's level + the brakes + akrapovic exhaust and you will end up with the same price tag.
    The Duke R is a bike that is versatile. You can go Kart track, big track, sunday blast or everyday commuting. It looks better than the MT, is sportier, has all the electronic gizmos and with the updated engine is faster than an MT-07 (just go -1 at the front)

      Any twin in the same capacity is going to feel more refined, and develop power more quickly. If single cylinder thumping is more appealing, then go for the Duke.

    Why does everyone think that KTM started the supermoto genre with the 1994 duke? Both the Gilera Nordwest and Cagiva supercity were out years before!

    • @kontoname
      @kontoname 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      First of all they didn't say KTM started it. They said almost started it.
      I don't even think 690 Duke is a Supermoto - they're probably just referencing the term as in driving style / engine setup etc.
      Also what's Gilera or Cagiva? Never heard, never really seen. Trends are usually not about who was absolutely first - but who was big enough to make a niche famous.

    • @LarsErikHel
      @LarsErikHel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The duke of today isn't a supermoto. But the original was very different, with the same seat height as a 690 SMC-R. They were very much supermotos but have over the years evolved into more of a naked bike (especially with the 4th gen reviewed here)

      those digital screens show you soul? what about the paywall of 2k to get the nav unlocked on that screen, wich is already in there but they dont allow to use it lol...
      not to mention there's a big aftermarket for mt07 etc, you can tune your bike any way u like it.. and still get cheaper or equalent to ktm 690.. those bikes are overrated af...
      not to mention they have heating problems... (well atleast they used to have 013-14 models..)

  • @rdrg7362
    @rdrg7362 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Comments on the price difference is no added value and a waste of our time. The maths is simplistic to do and we can do that alone.
    What matters is the feel of each model, with detailed and thoughtful analysis, especially by you where your added value also lies with the fact that you test lots of bikes and can make comparisons (again, not on price).
    Also one aspect which ought to be explored is the bike in relation to the expection, ie what type of rider could be interested by the regular Duke vs type of rider for the R.
    Plse improve.

Also can you get the R handle bars for the regular Duke here in the states? Silver is just so ugly. Also the R blinkers are so sexy.. Want for mine :( We always get screwed here in the states from the cool stuff.

    • @caspianprince
      @caspianprince 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lizzbien4446 the 690 runs on unusual and expensive 10w60 oil which costs £16/litre, and they use about 1L of the stuff every couple of thousand miles for the first 10k miles or so, before the engine's really run in. Don't skimp on the oil and it should be bombproof. There are three things you do need to watch out for though: 1. instrument panel - DO NOT PRESSURE WASH ACCIDENTALY (£500 replacement :( ), 2. clutch slave cylinder (didn't break on mine after 18k miles but I hear they're a weak point). 3. Plastic petrol tank can warp if there's too much ethanol in the fuel
