Cheers Dawn & John. Some great advice. I buy ALL of my kit in the sales and I don't ever watch shoe reviews. My advice is only buy what you need. Before you make a purchase, ask yourself do I really need it. PB - No man ever beat Father Time. As we get older, we slow - no shame in that. My advice is just accept the natural aging process and just be the best you can. Congratulations Dawn on the England vest. Those don’t come easy so wear it with pride.
One thing about running in the dark of personal safety, particularly when running alone. I'm a big lad, but I wouldn't risk going across my local park after dark on my own. There's been a number of assaults there over the years. My pb days are a very long way behind me now. And being very much heavier now, I'm just happy to have the challenge of finishing before the race organiser goes home 😅 I just enjoy the scenery, enjoy the fresh air and the camaraderie at the back. There's definitely worse things than being old and slow
Yes, agreed personal safety is a must. It's good to know your own area well and stick to more populated parts. Dawn will only run with others in the dark. John would only run in dark areas he knows well and where there's never been reported issues. It's all about having your wits about you. Sad but true...
Hey there, dear Dawn and John! I totally get what you're saying about the rising costs of running and the challenges of running in the dark. It's important to find cost-effective solutions like park runs and discounted gear. And when it comes to running in the dark, safety is key with head torches and high-vis gear. Keep running strong and stay positive! 🌟
The costs are sure going up compared to the past. The real sticker shock is in triathlon. They pay up to $1500 for entry and $10K for bike. I remember when marathon was under $50 but now over $200 in my area if register early. It is awesome to run at night with another person. Injuries are tough to deal with if serious.
Sadly, the costs of some entries to races and kit excludes many people from the full spectrum of the sport. We certainly think twice about the races we enter as unprepared to pay silly amounts! 🙂
All good stuff 👍👍 Remember I used to use only Strava on the phone to track my runs for about 1 year when I got into running more seriously. Though i did get a few bad days where Google or whatever or even Strava was down and the map trace was all wrong or wouldn't even connect. Happy I've a proper running watch now, but your right, it's not essential.
Good stuff, I do agree that you should only buy the gear you need for your level of running, I know casual runners who've spent hundreds of pounds on watches and other bits when all they really use is the distance and pace info. Keep the good videos and vibes coming!
Congaratulations on the england vest dawn. Im ok running in the dark, ive entered a night trail race series in preparation for one of my goal events for 2024. Actually my next race is in the dark 🥴, but its abroad and warm so its a win win for me 😁 Races are becoming more expensive now, but there is more selection to choose from to achieve our goals. Hope the calf is ok now john? Keep on keeping on.
Thank you. It means I will run in a representative race for England Masters against Wales Masters. The races are the Birmingham 10km and Manchester HM in 2024. 🙂

Thanks, Mihai. Yes, we agree, never run without making sure you can be seen.

Like much of our running kit we buy it because we want it, not because we need it. We started out with a Timex watch. Dawn loved the lap facility. 😁

Thanks Jay. Yes survived a 10k race at 90% effort today. Night running sounds intriguing and frightening at the same time!
Started my running pretty late in life. Fingers crossed 🤞 I’ve got a few years of getting faster still ahead of me
Yes, it's exciting to be on that improvement journey. 🙂
Well done on getting your England vest Dawn. Can you explain what that will enable you to do

Thanks Dawn. It would be interesting to hear all about it. I am considering applying for this next year.
What’s the difference between a truth and a hard truth? 🤔
Similar to rain and Hard Rain.
