Disney messed up, they could of gone with darth Krait (Luke's father friend and Padawan partner) portraying himself as a wise Jedi who pretty much destroyed the old Jedi Councils' knowledge. Since he is the only one that can provide Jedi Knowledge to Luke, he can seduce Luke to the darkside………………...That would be so freaking awesome.
Another thing the Legends New Republic has going for it: Its military leaders are actually competent.

Very late but this battle is rather reminiscent of the Pacific War with Japan (First Order) against the US (New Republic)
Kinda wish we had the Legends version of the New Republic in Canon. At least they had the brains to keep their ships and modernize them. They would have put up a better fight than the Resistance.

Ok. 500 ships in the Star Wars galaxy for a galactic power is absolutely nothing. The empire had 26000 standard star destroyers. Not counting the millions of support ships, frigates, and corvettes, and the billions of fighters, along with 19 SSD’s. If the canon new republic only had 500 in total, then they could be overthrown by small factions or a small organized pirate faction. I refuse to believe the new republic was dumb enough to scrap all their ships.
This is what I believed the sequels could have been, two large factions going at it, it could've been prequel sized battles with OT-like ships!
Edward Hahm Problem with FO now is that theyre like cartoon villains who dont really seem to give any reason to think of them as a threat. Theyre too comical and cant get any good guys killed. Its an interesting idea having the baddies as the underdogs, just what kind of threat would they impose that would give the audience the sense of urgency and want to see them defeated?

DaFinn cant kill any good guys? The resistance went from an entire fleet and established base of operations to about 20 people in one ship. I'd say they killed good guys well enough. And not to mention destroying the hosnian system and the nr government with it.

Then Hux just screams and gets thrown around, Kylo is being angsty and Snoke just dies, Praetorian guards even lose weapons to thin air fighting MaRey Sue. You always knew the goodies would win without problems, like watching someone play a game on easy

I'll give the war under a year 2 years tops before the new Republic is curb-stomping the hell out of them with Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order it would just turn into a Slaughter fest once they start using them in the fight though I will say that we don't know how many there are in the in the Knights of Ren or how powerful they are compared to Luke Skywalker's Jedi
Damar Glover there are only around 8 knights of ren, not including kylo, and they dont have lightsabers, which may hint at the fact that they might not be force users at all...

George Lucas when working on The Clone Wars would get with people like Dave and go over the legends material on a certain subject. He'd keep some aspects, change some, and throw things out altogether. He didn't let the EU constrain him, but he was more than willing to mine it for ideas. A lot of those ideas were even his own that he told writers to do. Had George been helming the Sequels I'm fairly certain the Jedi Homeworld would have been called Tython. Just like how he got the name Coruscant from Heir to the Empire.
His Sequels would have been about reforming the Republic and rebuilding the Galaxy in the aftermath of the Galactic Civil War. Instead we just got Not Rebels vs Not Empire in Not Galactic Civil War.
You are one of few. Just bad story telling really. They wanted the under dog "resistance" fighting the imposing First Order. Should have just had a crippled New Republic.
Lets also not forget the New Republic also had several captured Imperial assets including 2 Executor-Class Star Destroyers the Lusankya and Guardian
I think those with the Vicount Star Defender could take the Supremacy head on you might lose an SSD but that's why you bring a support fleet for good measure.
Plus the Lusankya would have Wedge Antilles commanding her, who is ever going to be able to defeat commander of the Rogues and the Wraiths?

That's a good point. The NR may find out about the FO, investigate and find SKB and preemptive strike the place to kingdom come.
Also they had allies in the smugglers alliance that may warn them of something that big happening. Their information network is extensive.

I'd imagine once whatever system Starkiller Base fires at,the New Republic will retaliate with perhaps the assistance of Centerpoint Station.
Except that requires the Republic to know WHERE the Starkiller Base is.
@@ufukcangencoglu2279 im pretty sure that the firing of starkiller base would instantly give away its position. plus as eck said the first order would see an immediate clustering of NR fleets towards starkillerbase. remember star killer base fired from a fixed position meaning it fired from point a to point b without moving. instantly NR fleets would respond to that and would bring in overwhelming force to destroy this massive threat.

I think the fact that the Jedi order is completely resurrected becomes the deciding factor, not only that but the fact that the New Republic in legends is battle hardened and not demilitarized, you definitely nailed this one Eck

I say in terms of ships, compare the tanks of the allies vrs the Germans. Yes many German tank designs were big, scary and had the firepower to match the hype, while the allies...they simply just hilariously outnumbered the German tanks and retained a good amount of quality...also allied tanks were more reliable.
Now with 1st order ships you have higher quality but that won't count for much if you're outnumbered 10 to 1, the original Star Wars EU had its flaws but damn did it make the New Republic nothing to scoff at...also didn't turn Luke into...well whatever THAT was.

I would also add production capability, superior resources and infrastructure. The biggest problem with the German Warmachine is that they lacked the vast number of factories and production centers the combined Allies had, the sheer amount of land mass and cultivated resources to pull from, and the actually ability to get those resources to the front lines.
This is the same case here. The First Order in unimpressively small in size and infrastructure when compared to the New Republic, who has 2/3rd's of the galaxy at their disposal and centuries of development already in place.
In short, unless the FO has a Star Forge, they're going to lose this war in the long run.
My math has been that the First Order seems to have high natural resources and advanced technology, but low manpower to mobilize it. Honestly, they're following a decent strategy given that situation - they used WMDs to take out the fleet most able to counter them in head-on battle and then are using a blitzkrieg, shock and awe and intimidation tactics (such as giant fleets) to scare the numerically-superior New Republic into giving in. If the New Republic uses hit-and-run tactics effectively, starts up decent war production and all of their systems fight tooth and nail, there is no way that the First Order can subjugate them all without being bled dry. But if they scare the galaxy into thinking that they are an unstoppable force with infinite resources, they can win without having to fight for every inch. Hence why the whole "Resistance inspiring hope" thing is so important.

+Hazardous Environmental Combat Unit The best part is, if you actually count those dots, there's only like 60-70 FO capital ships total. That's not nearly enough to control the galaxy, even though Canon seems to consider the galaxy to be a lot smaller than Legends did. And I think the hyperspace ram in TLJ took out like 7 Resurgent SDs, so that was potentially a tenth of their fleet right there. But, like I said, Disney has decided to make them immune to logistics, so I doubt that will matter much (even though the FO being heavily armed but highly outnumbered is the only thing that differentiates them from the Empire, and therefore makes the conflict interesting).

The Jedi alone could probably take out The First Oder. EU Jedi Grandmaster Luke could fight Snoke, Kylo and the Knights of Ren all at once while the other Jedi happily pick apart their dumb giant ships with shadow bombs. I mean EU Luke is practically a God who could take on entire armies, fight several dark lords at once or go 1v1 with Abeloth (who`s the most powerful being we have seen in Legends). Also Legends Jedi have Kyle Katarn, you know what he can do.
And Luke wouldn't be alone, your forgetting his wife.

The only reason the FO is ahead in the war is because they attached first unannounced. If the New Republic has been alerted to this serious threat, they’d be kicking Snoke’s teeth in by now.
Nah, they'd be trying to appease him or delaying in bureaucracy. The NR in canon is modeled after post-WW1 Britain. Heads lodged firmly in their asses, underestimating their enemies.

Now we're stuck with another freaking rebellion. -_- Besides, even if that's what they were going for, they failed to deliver that IN THE MOVIES lol. If we just watch the movies and that's it, we are left to believe the Republic was supporting the Resistance and not in the fight themselves because......well, who knows, but bye bye friends of the Resistance!

Exactly Edward Hahn and Da Germinator, the main reason for the First Order's success is that their most powerful enemy, the New Republic was stupid enough to serve them an opportunity for a knockout blow on a silver salver and the Resistance is to small to really do anything about it.
(And as I pointed out elsewhere earlier, I think the New Republic's spectacular ineptness is mainly due to the writers, as it makes no logical sense.)
And the point about raids and that amazing technology being stolen, that Edward raised is an excellent one, which makes me wonder if you ever read or played anything in regards to the Battletech universe, as it's one of the key operations there.
Somebody gets new tech, they tend to get raided (either conventional army units or intelligence units) for either that tech, or plans, or someone tries to bribe technicians etc.
As soon as you use a new technology or weapon, the cat's out of the bag and everyone is going to play catch-up, as our real wars have shown.
Hell you don't even need to be raided for them to find out about your tech, you just need a malfunctioning weapon or a crash-landed fighter or ship in the star wars context, so just by using your tech you expose yourself to the risk of your enemy unlocking it's secrets.
That is what happened to the german magnetic mines, they dropped some and either did the fuze fail to arm or the crew forgot to arm them, and the British figured out how they worked and then developed counter-measures.
Or another example would be how the allies gained a Zero to test fly, a japanese Navy pilot had to make a forced landing, his plane flipped and he broke his neck, which prevented him from destroying his plane.
The allies thus got a nearly undamaged plane and could develop tactics against the Zero.
For that matter, some of the remains of the crashed Ties at Jakku from TFA might tell the resistance or new republic something about the First Orders "new" old TIEs, same as sensor recordings from the Falcon.
(If you ever wonder why IRL the russians are constantly annoying NATO's Air Policing mission in the Baltics, it's to get recordings of what frequencies the radars of the new Fighters like the Eurofighter use, because if you know what frequencies they use and how the radar jumps and uses them, you can jam them. Just look at how many of these intercepts are created by Signals or Electronical Intelligence aircraft.)
Edward Hahm I'm not sure the First Order has that great an advantage in technology though. Look at the Resurgent class ship, it's around 6 times the volume of the Imperial Star destroyers (because they are similarly shaped I can use the cube squared law to figure out the rough ratio for their internal volumes), and sure it's got a huge firepower advantage, but the Legends New Republic went in the opposite direction and built much smaller ships that could effectively combat Imperial Star Destroyers 1 on 1 with the Nebula Class Star Destroyers and these ships being something like a fifth to a third the size of an Imperial Star Destroyer (using that calculation it comes out at 0.275 times the size of the ISD but the shape is significantly different, but I'd say closer to the lower end here considering the ship look a lot narrower proportionally than the ISD). So while one Resurgent might have significantly more firepower and defences than a Nebula for the same cost and effort the New Republic might be building 18-30 Nebula class ships and can a Resurgent win against 20 Nebulas (and their combined 1200 fighters against the only 144 on the Resurgent)?
Yeah....I mean, the story they got now (Political/war side of things) is okay for what it is, but it'd be way cooler to have seen the New Republic in action against the First Order directly once or twice before them being annihilated. Perhaps they could have been NOT incompetent, and ready for a threat like the First Order....however, simply unaware of what the FO are doing in the unknown regions and their secret weapon and what not, and are caught off guard because of their hidden firepower. Or perhaps they didn't know the First Order even existed, then they strike and war breaks out. They could catch them off guard, and the NR loses a lot, so that it's still compelling and the good guys aren't necessarily "on top." Perhaps after a lot of fighting and long war, the FO gets the upper hand, and/or they use Starkiller to finally take out a good chunk of the NR, and then the remaining forces regroup to become the Resistance. Idk seems awesomer then just Resistance being some tiny ragtag rebel 2.0 group that existed since the beginning of said war, and never seeing the NR in action....
I saw my recommended and laughed out loud. The EU New Republic would kick the First Order's sh*t in. I mean, even if they had Starkiller Base, the New Republic had some sort of access to Centerpoint Station; a *ancient* space station that could fricking move Black Holes !

I think it's weird that some of the same people that criticize Starkiller Base and Rey for being stupid or OP forget about Legends things like Centerpoint Station, the Sun Crusher, Galen Merak, the Galaxy Gun, the Eclipse, the World Devastators, or other retardedly OP characters or superweapons. Nothing has changed.
themetalstickman it's because there was always something or someone powerful or skilled enough, most of the time, to counter something just as OP. But you can't deny "some" Legends characters are cool too 😀

New Republic Legends, had brought a new Jedi Order which meant Jedis were widespread and back in the galaxy again, Luke didn't become a hermit like how Disney disrespected him, kept its galactic navy knowing the Imperial Remnants wouldn't give up easily as Thrawn was still alive, and face the brunt of the Yuuzan Vong War, which force all different factions at the time to unite.
New Republic Canon, dismantles its navy after believing the peace treaty between the remaining Imperial forces will stay intact forever, becomes weak, petty, and no different than the Republic was during its final years.
Add in the New Republic has better Starfighters and experienced pilots. So far from what I seen with the New Order is that their Tie Fighters are not really good.

Disney was so scared of Kyle Katarn they refused to be in the same canon as him.
Welcoming Matt Kyle Katarn IS Canon, he just says he's not so that Disney's Star Wars can look "cool".
Although if Disney does introduce him, I demand another Kyle Katarn Goes Killing, game.
The level of power in The Last Jedi should be weighed against how weak the Disney trilogy New Republic is due to their mass disarmament program compared to the New Republic leaning in to projects like the Viscount and the Nebula Star Destroyer. Wedge got his own Super Star Destroyer, for goodness sake. Wedge was given his own giant Wedge. The "Resistance" didn't even have guns on their only Mon Calamari cruiser, by comparison.
I'd bank on the Legends New Republic taking the fight ten out of ten times. They survived Thrawn, they can survive anything.

I find it increasingly hard to enjoy the the new trilogy when legends has already covered that timeline and done it so much better. Sure there were some wacky plot lines but it was incredible and entertaining

what are the replicators? if they are organic beings then it would go to the flood, but if mechanical then the flood wouldnt stand a chance
The_DwarvenSquirrel they're mechanical blocks, once there's a large enough group of blocks in one location they can from into various machine types with spider walkers being a particular favourite but if there are enough of them they'll make themselves into spaceship if need be, and they eat any material they come across to make more of themselves (thus the name) and that's they're only motivating factor (until they develop human like AIs, but they're far from stupid before they do that) and are for all intents and purposes immune to directed energy weapons fire (but not projectiles so guns or something like a MAC would work just fine) and they learn very quickly so similar tactics rarely work twice. They do have their weaknesses but they're fairly similar to the flood in many respects.
Replicators? If their war with the Asgard is any indication then they would likely adapt/be immune to the energy weapons being used, and from that point on it would be a curb-stomp. Unless something drastic happened I feel that the only universes that would stand a chance against them are the ones who use kinetic weapons such as Halo (UNSC) and BSG.

-More Manpower
-Huge Amount of Resources
-Experienced and Battle hardened Soldiers that does not have Stormtrooper aim.
-Better Generals such as Admiral Ackbar, Wedge Antilles, and Many more.

I have alot of Reasons why the New Republic would Win, And The First Order doesn't Stand A Chance, They're Outnumbered, Outgunned and Alone against the Republic.
1)The First Order military (discount Hux) is mostly better than Imperial military.
2) The NR having the galaxies support depends on which version of the Galaxy you are referring to.In Canon there were a relatively decent amount of Imperial supporters including major Senators and Corporations.

I think you even overestimated the First Orders size. In Battlefront II Iden finds a Map, that shows all First Order Capital ships. If I remember correctly, there were only like 65 dots on the Map.

I agree with your conclusion.
Given the plethora of new Repulic designs the First Order would struggle in each battle, since they upgraded their weapons but not their defense, while the Republic went to focus on the high level shield technology the MonCals brought in the Rebellion, improved on it and thus levels the playing field.
Afterwards, the combination of quantity and experience will ultimately leave the First Order behind, being outdone and outnumbered, outmanuovered and finally beaten.

How can you say the FO has a tech advatage, when they have shields that can't stop fighters from getting through and picking off any point defense or anti starfighter guns their ships could have? Or go for their hangers?
If the New Republic was able to adapt on the fly to counter miniature singularity projectors, giant heatproof bugs with an appetite for starship hulls, colossal brain-squid with telepathic fleet coordination abilities, mutated monstrosities that could sense Jedi across distances of thousands of kilometers, and shape-changing shrouds allowing the wearer to mimic any known lifeform, to say nothing of an enemy of unknown but clearly gargantuan strength that, oh yeah, doesn't even show up as a presence in the Force -- yeah, I think the First Order and its ultra-scary hyperspace tracking technology and knuckle-dragging walkers wouldn't stand much of a chance. Warlords gonna warlord.

When four or five starfighters equal one First Order Stardestroyer, I like the New Republic's chances.
Well, and don't forget that New Republic starfighters are still vastly superior. Upgraded X-Wings and E-Wings (16 proton torpedoes???), as well as the great combination of B-Wings, Y-Wings, and A-Wings. That made a big difference against the Imperials and would likely continue to make a difference against the First Order, given their continued reliance on Ties (albiet, upgraded versions, but not on par with the Alliance/New Republic starfighter corps.
I would love to see a galactic versus where the Yuuzhan Vong invade the miky way galaxy (Halo). Great content by the way.

Starkiller base and the lazer-equipped dreadnoughts would be a great threat to Vong worldships. But I think the Vong spy network would lead to the location and vulnerability of starkiller base being revealed and exploited.

You hit it pretty much on the head, the new republic in legends was so battlehardened by that time, they would decimate the first order, I would say that during almost anytime after endor actually, something always came up and they somehow made it work

Yeah I have to agree that EU New Republic would win out against the First Order. I feel like what you said about the New Republic having incredibly experienced fighters would definitely give them an edge against a relatively inexperienced and untested First Order.

I think this is how it would go.
First, starkiller base fires, destroying yavin and it’s system, yavin IV and other moons begin orbiting the sun or something. Anyways, the new republic would not tolerate this, and send a lot of ships. I’m talking probably five times as much as you have seen in jakku. First off, they fire a few turbo lasers at them, finding out shields. They would move into a bombardment posistion, and this is when the supremacy, mandatory IV and a hell lotta resurgences are seen behind them. FIRST OFF, both fleets launch fighters. Unlike the empire, FO ties have shields, but the republics pilots are just too skilled for really any faction. They would send a wave of fighters against FO, easily gaining superiority. Once they would get superiority, they launch the rest of fighters. This would just overwhelm the resurgences. Starkiller base could fire at coruscant, and kill more people than they would in canon. But they would have no real reason to, as most of the fleet is pretty much at the base, so derp. Admiral ackbar would quickly study the situation, with seeing that there is a fat ship. There would be only one viscount at this time, because it’s a trap. One viscount could’ve really harmed the starkiller base entirely. Upon seeing this, ackbar calls in 2 more star defender classes, opening fire behind the supremacy, ripping through its shields like it was ramming a cruiser. The other majority of the fleet moved into a battle formation as of it was like endor, and it would begin chipping off on resurgences. Sure they have better technology, but they can’t handle 2-3 republic fleets. The fighters mentioned earlier would’ve weakened the defences, as the cruisers begin crushing them to finish the job. Once most hangars are down, the rest attack, Pretty much all resurgences would be gone, so let’s focus on the supremacy.
The supremacy fires all it has, and undeniably, one viscount would be demolished, but if they overlap shields, this will be avoided. The shields are probably matched with the supremacy but the supremacy doesn’t have any shields from the viscounts from earlier that demolished them, They would aim at their reactor, and so much firepower would demolish it as much as it would in the HS ram times two, and a bunch of star hawks would have their tractors on the supremacy, bringing it closer to starkiller base. This really doesn’t do anything YET. All cannons fire on starkiller base, as the shield weakens. The supremacy’s engines would be destroyed, pulling it with the star hawks into the planet. Once near the planet, the starhawks would release their tractor, with the supremacy crashing into the base within starkiller base, ultimately killing smoke, hux, and kylo ren.

I think the main thing to consider it the that fighters and bombers can quite literally fly right through the first order ships shields as they didn't utilize the imperial era's multi-layered, hybrid or skintight shields. And the new republic had incredibly powerful fighter bombers like the k-wing which would decimate the first orders capital ships as well as still used y-wings, b-wings etc.
And the new republic like the old republic before it tends to use massive swarms of star fighters pretty much all the new republic ships carry more fights, bombers, interceptors and fighter bombers then the first order ships. And as we all know from Poe, fights and bombers are the first orders weakness.
I am considering using a similar scenario for a roleplaying game campaign. Basically a Canon/Legends mashup (with some of my own additions, changes, etc.), with the Galactic Alliance being attacked by the First Order. This version of the First Order, however, is more like the Rebel Alliance, pursuing a guerilla campaign against the Galactic Alliance, though possibly attempting an Alpha Strike with a Superweapon. I am also thinking of giving them a hidden habitation sphere in the Unknown Regions that served as one of Palpatine's secret storehouses and possibly even a Star Forge, constructed by the Tulpaa tribe mentioned in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition sourcebook The Unknown Regions.
