Three MC’s and One Deejay is hip hop perfection- live!! ❤
Beastie Boys put out a large variety of great songs! One thing you can count on, they produce some of the best beats ever and they are amazing at passing the mic back and forth between the three of them. I recommend 3MCs and 1DJ.
What always surprises me is the list of music that gets recommended for the Beasites - Sure Shot, 3 MCs, Sabotage, Intergalactic, even Shake Your Rump- and with due reason because they all rule. However, one I rarely see reviewed is the one song every one of these reactors has likely heard at some point and don't know where the phrase came from. . . .You Gotta Fight! For Your Right! To PARRRRRRRTAY!
Please do Beastie Boys
"What cha want." This track shows off their old school hip hop style, and it has a cool and fun music video!
If he likes this more than Intergalactic he would probably like Watcha Want too. 😊
“Shake your rump” is a must….❤❤❤
This song was used in Star Trek Beyond.
If you like this better than Intergalactic you might want to try "So What'cha Want" next. You'll probably like songs from Check Your Head the most. My favorite song on it is Professor Booty but it wasn't a single so no official videos, just recording. "Gratitude" is also on the same album and a great song but a more mellow vibe.
Must see them do this live on Letterman in 1994. Then you will see the brilliance
Intergalactic came at the end of the nineties, And people were nostalgic for early hip hop and that song tapped into it
Sabotage was used in the first JJ Abrams' Star Trek movie. This was when Kirk was stealing his dad's car. It was used in the third one too, when Kirk wanted to distract the aliens attacking the starbase.
Sabotage is hard as hell. They have lots of great material that is just as hard as this. Try "Shadrach", incredible music video. Also Beastie Boys and Rage Against The Machine were supposed to do a co-headline arena tour in 2000 but Mike D broke his collar bone and the tour was cancelled and RATM broke up shortly after. :(
Also check out "The New Style" and "Brass Monkey".
"Intergalactic" is Beastie Boys being cute, which they do, and they do it well. It's just pure enjoyment to make you smile. But then they also do hard. They're versatile and always had a surprise up their sleeve for us. It's why everyone loves them. 🥰
"Only a moderate success???" Ikr? The market is clueless. Fans loved it. And MTV played the living **** out of it.
Intergalactic was more Funk/Funky this was more Hard Rock.
Both are bangers.
7 of their albums went at least Platinum. One of them went diamond.
That's HARD(as diamonds)!
The New Style and Three MCs and One DJ !
Actually, Beastie Boys' 1994 album "ill Communication" was a huge hit, selling 3x platinum thanks to the huge MTV hit that 'Sabotage' was that year... Getting a hit single was not the Beastie Boys style. They had their own label by that point (Grand Royale) and signed to Capitol Records... 'Intergalactic' was another huge MTV hit in 1998 and their next album 'Hello Nasty' sold another 3x platinum.
The Beastie Boys' biggest album was 'License to ill' in 1986 that sold Diamond (10x platinum)... but the group hated that record. They felt that they were marketed as rowdy jocks who bullied nerds and were always chasing girls... They were just not that - they were nerds and geeks themselves. They actually left the Def Jam label and producer Rick Rubin after 'License to ill' ... Beastie Boys wanted to do hip hop their way and released the sample-heavy record "Paul's Boutique" in 1989 - it sold less... 2x platinum... followed up in 1992 w/ the album 'Check your head'... Beastie Boys were one of the few rap artists that made the transition from the 80's to the 90's.
Just another example of their versatility. They've done so many different styles over the years. Keep digging through the collection - you won't be disappointed. Also, their videos are hilarious. This one is a parody/homage of 70's cop shows. They produced and directed a lot of their own videos (I believe it was MCA (Yauch)). They started as a punk band originally. Then they started rapping kind of on a lark and put out Licensed to Ill, which was produced by them and Rick Rubin while he was a student at NYU. It was old school Run-DMC style rap, and very tongue in cheek. But they were also one of the first to use hard rock samples (like Led Zeppelin). Next album was Paul's Boutique, produced by the Dust Brothers. Another rap record, but with crazy complex sampling that I don't think anyone has ever matched - and can't be done any more because of changes in the copyright enforcement laws. After that, they picked up their instruments again for the next two albums and fused live music, sampling, rap and punk (and jazz, etc.). Eventually, they found their way back to "retro" rap like Intergalactic and 3 MCs and 1 DJ. You really need to listen to about a dozen of their songs before you can fully appreciate their depth, range, creativity and talent. But most importantly, they always had fun, and their videos showcase that.
Also -- and am sure someone else will say this -- there is a great live version of this from the David Letterman show. Worth checking that out too.
If you wanna see them on fire live, watch them performing this on the Letterman show.
I second this. They're playing their instruments.
FYI - if you don’t know, to help you find this performance, David Letterman is a legendary comedian and talk show host - he had a late night show for 20-25 years.
Three mcs and one DJ!! Yer gonna love it
My teenager jam music. Yep
Sabotage is my favorite Beastie Boys song. The first thing I heard by them, (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!) is my second favorite.
Listening to this I hear how Kid Rock nicked their sound into his music.
Keep on the Beasties. Many more greats to check out. Brass Monkey, Whatch Want, Fight for Your Right, Make Some Noise, Paul Revere. Can't really go wrong with any Beastie track.
Charts are charts. It's in the moment. Legacy is legacy.. that's what comes after.. you get it dude!❤
They started as a hard-core band in NY...they play all their instruments.....check out some live performances......it'll blow you're fn mind!🤘
Peace From PA ✌️
Catch their Concert in Glasgow.
Wow what a journey.
1994 was one of the best years in music. 1994 had Alice In Chains Jar of Flies, Tori Amos Under the Pink, Green Day Dookie, Reality Bites Soundtrack, Sublime, Beck Mellow Gold, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, The Offspring Smash, OutKast’s breakout album, Live, Blur, Weezer, Stone Temple Pilots Purple, Warren G, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Rancid, Keith Sweat, House of Pain, Hootie and the Blowfish, 311, Coolio, NOFX, Spong Rotting Pinata, Prince, Barenaked Ladies, Jeff Buckley, Toadies, Oasis, Boyz II Men, Usher, Blues Traveler, Biggy, Liz Phair, 2Pac, Veruca Salt, REM, Dave Matthews Band, The Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, Digable Planets, Scarface, Madonna, Nirvana Unplugged, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, TLC,, Method Man, Slick Rick, Cube, Redman,Pearl Jam, Bush, on top of the previously released grunge albums still popular from other years.
1999 had a lot of good hip hop, a bunch of boy bands, Brittney, Spice Girls, Christina, Missy Elliott, Limp Bizkit, RZA, GZA,Puff Daddy, Eve. While good, nothing compares to 93 or 94 in the amount. If Sabotage was released in 99 would have been much more popular. 1999 kind of sucked for rock music. 1994 was one of the best ever.
The BEST Beasties song (from that decade, in my opinion) will ALWAYS be "Pass the Mic". 😎 The beat on that damned song is just one of the most layered and nuanced things I ever heard when it dropped. 💯
As a drummer, I have spent almost 20 years trying to get the snare sound from "Pass the Mic" on my songs. 💯😎
I agree.
But I love Shadrach too.
still didnt go back far enough LOL another great video
Ikr it's my favorite BB song!!! What chu Want is right up there too they got lots of great ish!°
You gotta check out the live performance of this from Letterman.
Omg I love your reaction! I was rockin out with you like it was my first time hearing it. God bless you! ❤
Before you react to anymore Beastie Boys, you should watch their documentary, it’s amazing. It’ll give more context than you can imagine to their whole career. And then when you react to whatever from them, you’ll have that
Ohhh there's so much more BB for you to explore!!! For those of us who grew up on it, they can do no wrong. ❤
Check out Paul's Boutique, Hello Nasty, To The 5 Boroughs, Check Your Head, The Mix-Up and of course their first Album Licenced to III.
They were a a punk/hardcore band before they started rapping. They're playing.
from a headbanger since 80s: rage against < beastie boys
You need to understand something. I was in that time.
The Beastie Boys were a Punk Band first… became a rock-rap band, and they started merging punk with rap later, when they had more creative control. That’s what you hear on this.
Sabotage was ahead of its time.
Mainstream Audiences were not familiar with this sound/style yet and “were not ready for it yet” as Marty said in the first Back to the Future movie.
The Beastie Boys CREATED THIS SOUND!!!!
Everyone that came afterwards, with that sound, like RATM ( practically simultaneously with this particular sound ), came from the Beastie Boys creations of new sounds. It’s like the Beastie Boys we’re “Creating Sub-genres” for those bands and audiences of the future!
Check out:
"So What'cha Want" (a broken English for "So, what do you want?") is the second single from the album Check Your Head, the third studio album by American rap rock group the Beastie Boys. Released on June 2, 1992, the song samples "Just Rhymin' With Biz", by Big Daddy Kane featuring Biz Markie, and "I've Been Watching You" by Southside Movement. The song also appears in the video game Rock Band 2.[1]

Them doing Sabotage Live on Lettermen was pretty amazing, gotta check it out 😎
It wasn’t a big radio hit, but the video was a huge hit on mtv. And the album, of course, sold millions.
Love watching you groove!
I always loved both tunes, I don't think either is better than the other, but musical preference is subjective.
Glad you liked this one.
Must check out Pass the Mic by them 🔥
Shadrzch, Car Thief, Lee Majors Come Again, anything but one of the 5 or 6 songs eveyone reacts to no more 3 MCs and1 DJ or Paul Revere.
There is a DECADE gap from one song to the other and Rap was still an infant in 1986 vs late 1990s.
By the time Intergalactic was released Rap & Hip Hop had become.....INTERGALACTIC!
So that would explain some of the ratings and financial differences not adding up to your expectations.
It doesn't matter what song you start with all of them are good
They performed sabotage live on Dave letterman show and it was amazing. I’d start with their first album ill communication. You’d probably enjoy “no sleep till Brooklyn”
Their first Album was Licensed to Ill
When I first played RATM for my cousin, he thought they sounded like the Beasties, too.
As far as I'm concerned, intergalactic represented the end of my appreciation for what the beastie boys were putting out. Just listen to check your head and ill communication.
Check out Car Thief!
And yes sir I’ve always said some rage and some beastie boys have a very similar sound, they use a similar filter on their vocals, the rock stuff has a similar sound, so what cha want is another you’ll find very rage like
My jam!
The B-Boys will continue to surprise you, in case you're not aware.😂. Go back & listen to "Licence to Ill" (that's I'll as in sick.) Then listen to their second studio Album "Paul's Boutique"... & You'll get the idea. Always switching it up, they also play instruments as you just heard an example of & actually have an all instrumental album as well.
You should check the live at letterman of this song its something and shows you how they handle instruments.
You should check out Gratitude
This
This is only 4 years before intergalactic. Go back to 1986 with License to Ill. Start with No Sleep Till Brooklyn, Fight for your Right and Paul Revere.
while yes this is amazing, and no doubt Rage was influenced b the Beastie boys, but you gotta go back in time, to songs off the Licensed to Ill album, old school 80's hip hop. songs like - No Sleep Till Brooklyn, or Brass Monkey, or Paul Revere.
I agree, he has to start at the beginning.
Licensed to III.
Intergalactic is a better hip hop song, Sabotage is an alternative music song. different genre, same group, they crossed genres often.
It has to be Licensed to Ill, for the mix of if Rock and Rap.
I think this song is now considered a masterpiece, even if it didn’t have huge acclaim at the time it was released. Maybe because fans weren’t expecting it from the Beasties. (?)
Beasties were always on the rap side of the scale while Rage are more on the rock side.
Always assumed Reno 911 was inspired by this video.
Korn and Slipknot performed this live together, should check it out. Corey and Jonathan are huge hip hop fans as I’m sure many are in the groups
If youre in to deep lyrics and bad ass music, check out Seether! Is suggest Words as Weapons, Remedy, Driven Under or Bruised and Bloodied. They hit my SOUL every time I listen to them. 🙌
🔥
This song is great but disagree with it being a million times better than Intergalatic
So... I'm getting the impression that it was HARD? 🤪😁😎
I'm here for your learning about the songs and bands, not just the songs analysis. 👍🏽
The Vocals here, are by Ad Rock.
"Ch-check it out" live
You'll find Sabotage in the movie "Star Trek Beyond" 👊
Definitely need to fo someone of Licensed to Ill
Root down next!!
3 MC & 1 DJ, So watcha want, Shake your rump, bangers and bangers... BBs are one of the bests (and RATM is GOAT).
But you can try some Pink Floyd, obviously more soft, but the journey and the lyrics are just "over the top"...
Star Trek. The 2009 movie with Chris Pine
High plains drifter
In yoda voice …. Much to
Learn and see you have
Root Down bro. check it
Guitar Hero 3.
Star Trek used this.
But wait, was it hard?
This, while fantastic, is one of the least hip hop songs they ever did. You gotta go deeper brother
