Beastie Boys were always cutting edge. License to ILL put them on the map. Paul's Boutique is amassing front to back but didn’t get the recognition until much later. Check Your Head is what made the everyone take them seriously as musicians and ILL Communications is where it all came together.
Lets not forget about in sounds from the way out, helped spark the mid 90s jazz comeback.
You got a lot of good music ahead of you.

From an artistic view Paul’s Boutique is maybe the greatest hip hop album ever. I’m sad to say I was one of those that hated it at first and now I think it’s one of the best albums of that decade, period. It was nothing like License to Ill and people were expecting a sequel, including me. People thought they were a bunch of wild party rappers and they were actually thoughtful artists. License to Ill made me love them, Paul’s Boutique made me respect them.

The solo was Kerry King from Slayer. He was working with Rick Rubin, who produced The Beastie Boys as well. Kerry wasn't a fan of the song. He is kind of a staunch metalhead, and it wasn't his vibe. Just a little trivia.

I love what you're doing with the metal and hard rock , but there's a song called "What chu want " and I'm the biggest headbanger you'll ever meet but this song just hits my funky bone and I live it and I think you'll like it too. Keep on keeping on and I enjoy seeing you find the music that molded me as a young adult into the man I am and for you to react with the same emotional response i had as a teen discovering the great music. And you havin understand good music qhn you hear it. I'm 59 and I've neverr responed to any reaction videos it'll now, I just had to let you know about this song , I think you'll dig it. Good luck to you and remember... if it's too loud , you're too old.

Most songs from licensed to ill were great, some of their simplest beats but still amazing. I think I like “rhyming and stealing” , “no sleep till” the best, I’m sure you’ve herd “fight for right to party” and “brass money”
They are great musicians besides rapers/singers on top of having one of the best DJs in the world. Also great actors as you can see in their videos, the rhyming and stealing video is live and you see how wild their concert were
One of my favorite songs is “gratitude”
You might like “looking down a barrel of a gun” so many hits

The lyrics were not serious... The Beastie Boys were 3 goofy, nerdy geeks that loved punk rock and hip hop (L.L. Cool J recalled meeting them and calling them 'punks' 😂) There was nothing against their manager (or producer) - the rhymes in 'Sabotage' and 'No sleep til Brooklyn' were supposed to be comical ... They did have tracks that shot back at their haters... "So what'cha want" (from 1992) was one of them.
The title 'No sleep til Brooklyn' was inspired by the live album "No sleep til Hammersmith" by Motorhead, a band they had admired... Kerry King (guitar) of the band Slayer did the guitar solo and appeared in the music video - King recalled that the gorilla was supposed to knock him off the stage in the original concept... but King insisted that he would be the one knocking the gorilla off the stage.
This album 'License to ill' in 1986 was produced by Rick Rubin (who had also signed Slayer) on Def Jam... It sold 10x platinum and certified diamond... However, the Beastie Boys were not happy w/ the way they were marketed - in the music videos, they were bad boys who drank, chased girls and beat up nerds... in reality, they WERE the nerds... One of them recalled that when the group toured, they saw huge football jocks (like those who used to pick on them in school) shoving their way to the front of the stage screaming their lyrics while drunk... and that didn't sit well w/ them. They split w/ Rick Rubin soon after due to financial and creative disagreements and decided to make record and music videos the way they wanted. They wanted to distance themselves w/ what they called, "misogynistic bulls+++" 😂
Early on, the Beastie Boys were making fun of themselves... Their first music video "She's on it" depicted them trying to score w/ a hot girl in a bikini on the beach and failing 😂 They said it was inspired by the video for 'California girls' by David Lee Roth (ex-Van Halen singer)... "but instead of hooking up, (they) get dissed."
The next album "Paul's Boutique" was finally released in 1989, but sold less... The track "Hey ladies" was a better representation of who they were, rather than being what they called "macho pigs"...

The Beastie Boys started out as a punk band in the early 80’s and then being in New York City they got into hip hop and started incorporating with their music and they became some of the godfathers of hip hop and respected MCs

The Beastie Boys were punk rock until two of their members left. They decided to keep the band going but wanted to do different kind of music they wanted to do fun upbeat music beastie is a acronym from what Mike said in the interview even though he didn't say what it stood for this first album of theirs was supposed to be kind of a joke but it went number one within 2 weeks starting a long career for the Beastie Boys it is a great interview you can find it here on TH-cam. Also no sleep for Brooklyn and fight for your right to party were making fun of frat boy partie anthems they were hoping these two songs would get played on channels like Dr Demento but they went number one on the regular Rock charts.

Licenced to ill, is their best work to me; but Sabotage was on another cassette as far as I remember. Other than this album; sabotage and intergalactic are probably the most well-known..... You should probably check out the song titles from the first album; maybe they will spark a memory. I did a lot of Pot back in my day;; but maybe You & Polo did more, since neither of you can remember a song by title or group

The words were bleeped out just because it was different times back then. It was around the time of the PMRC, congressional hearings about bands and songs with questionable lyrics, and the advent of the explicit lyrics sticker on records. “I Want Your Sex” by George Michael was out around this time and, at least around here, the radio stations played a warning before the song came on so people/parents could turn down the radio for the duration of the song. “Dust” was a reference to PCP, and the word “whore” was just considered dirty, so they bleeped those words for the video. It sounds quaint these days, with how explicit and extreme things are on pop radio now. Oh, we laughed about it back then too, but times were just different.

I like how so many other songs before and after this song has language & innuendo and are not censored.
"Smokes" "Dust" are not bad words so it's beyond imbecilic here to censor them, plus silence would be better than that horrible beep, ruined the video.
