I gave this a go a few years back. The feeling was that it COULD totally be a low level computer. I'm hoping this get ompletely blown open and you can stick windows or linux on them at some point. Would be a great way to reuse the hardware.
I know you went into the intro with "no modifications" however, dev mode is pretty easy to enable, especially if it's right out of the box and you're not losing anything. Would love to see a redo comparison between a dev mode Series S, against your $200 PC build, especially since I saw a Series S at Sam's Club in Atlanta for $169.99. If you have to take an angle grinder to an office PC, you can try dev mode out.

Good video! Only thing I wanted to comment on was the bass pops I was getting through headphones at the end. Maybe I’m just sensitive to it or it’s my headphones but, I didn’t notice it at any other part of the video.
A lovely video, I respect the time put into this. Was curious about the limitations but figured it would be “Like That”. I don’t envy you, but I appreciate you.
I remember one media outlet did something similar to this when the Xbox One launched. It at least supported keyboard typing, but I can't recall if it would recognize a mouse (even if just in the browser). It was a lot like this video, but even less capabilities as the browser was more limited and less game streaming options. Now if you mod the Series S then you'll definitely open up some interesting possibilities. Fun anecdote, but while working at a previous job years ago I discovered the Xbox One had an official app for the remote desktop software the company used. So when working from home I could just remote in using my Xbox and easily take little gaming breaks without needing to move or change devices.
Great video Oz! One thing I never understood about the Xbox devs was why allow an interface to download third party apps if it’s not going to be supported lol there was nothing wrong with the simplicity of the original Xbox/360 to just be used for games/media. It didn’t need all these ridiculous bloatware apps. And I can’t think of one person in my console owning group that uses Xbox App Store aside from Netflix/other video streaming service.
I bought a series s second hand for 180 cdn which is crazy good. I mostly use it for retro gaming and for the streaming services as using an elite controller you can control volume and more with the controller. I always wanted to play counter strike 2 so being able to do that with such a cheap multi functional and compact system is huge win!
It’s crazy to see this, I bought a series s since release and been gaming up until two months ago I built my first and I can saw pc is more fun and can be used for so many applications
Man I remember using consoles as a kid lol. It just seems like there is no reason to pick it over a PC setup as an adult; I need one machine to do way too many things.
Office pc on ebay with 16 gigs of ram and a i5 6th gen or 7th gen without storage for abt $80, 512 gig ssd for about $30 then a used rx 5700xt or rx 6600 for around $160 then a 500 watt Power supply to change in the office pc for around $40 this is around $310 with a lite version of windows 11 which bypasses requirements will be much better, okay its like $80 more expensive but much better than a console + no subscription to play online + every game is supported. I recommend to do this than buying a console. Takes some effort to change parts but its worth the 30 mins or 45 mins + ITS EVEN BETTER THAN A CONSOLE IN PERFORMANCE HAHA!
Yeah just get used parts that might explode or be used in bitcoin mining, get an office PC, have a good local market, don't get scammed and hope everything fits, do a ton of research, deal with Windows 11 and you can maybe get a good experience that comes with no warranty versus a slightly less powerful all in one box that will give you zero issues and play games just fine... really now.
valorant detects all vpn's and refuses to matchmake if one is detected. You don't need a VPN to play in different regions you just need a account from that region.
I appreciate how you show all available options, even if they are not for you. I'll always be a PC person, but I do recognize that an Xbox is a viable solution for some people.
I use this from time to time using the xscreen with series S. I really wish Edge was closer in functionality to the PC variant. Allow extensions and allow me to change the mouse cursor. They're small issues but would be a huge step up.
The craziest part is that it uses a type of windows OS if I'm not mistaken. It's a custom version of windows used for the xbox series consoles. It'd be cool if someone could somehow get regular windows to work, but that would obviously take too much work.
Yeah, Xbox uses Windows 10 in the same way that Android uses Linux (I think?) and it's advertised as "Windows 10 on Xbox One." Even then, they forbid you from really installing Windows natively, which makes it not really worth the money in my opinion
i mean you can do all that and more with your phone. most androids support keyboard/mouse/monitor these days. AND you can access local storage. AND theres compatibility layers that actually allow you to run pc games on them natively, along with geforce now.
I remember ltt mentioning that they should just make something of an "xbox os" that is basically windows but is more gaming centered. I don't remember all the details but I agree xbox should just "be a computer" if microsoft would let the xbox team do it. I have a hard time believing it would be a complicated thing in practicality for microsoft people to set up.
Great comparison. I have both and I play Spelunkey from Steam on my PC almost everyday. Yes, I've beat it hundreds of times but it's still a new game each time I load it up.
I will say I play my Xbox series s more than my gaming pc. But I work in IT as well and am on a computer constantly. So it is nice to use an easy chair and fire up the Xbox on a bigger screen and using a sound bar.
I have being saying this for at least one year, Microsoft should release a gaming pc with Microsoft and the Xbox operative system. My perfect solution is something with the new Amd APU, the Ryzen 9 hx370 with the integrated GPU, the 880m, it can perform almost like a modern console and then if you want something more you can connect an external GPU. In this way you could have a cheaper solution, like the Serie S, and a most expensive and performing one, like the Series X, both capable of productivity and optimized for gaming with the dedicated OS. Xbox and Playstation never earned nothing from hardware, but with a machine like this they could expand their market and earn from the software licenses and from the profits of the game studios they own
Great video, and maybe with some work MS could turn this little powerhouse into a competent PC replacement. My only issue with the video was Geforce now issue, where free users are kicked after an hour . This is a Geforce now thing and not related to the series S
About 2 years ago when gpu's were stupid expensive. I really wanted to play cyberpunk277. Went out and got a near new gaming pre built by Samsung 1400usd with 2080 gpu. I was ready to buy the game for 70 dollars and noticed a ps3 used dor sale for 70 dollars. I of course picked it up in a heartbeat. I then picked up a used copy of cyberpunk2077 for another 35 dollars. I sold the pc the next day. Yes you can do a lot more with a pc but to play some casual games a console is a much better investment. That 1400 dollar gaming PC is now worth about 300. My ps4 and game DVD is about the same price I paid.
I think microsoft should make a Desktop Mode for their Xbox consoles this would add so much functionality. They wouldnt allow you to download exe files or anything so no steam or epic but just a more functional Desktop Environment that works well with keyboard and mouse. Kinda like how S mode is in Windows 11 where you can only download apps through MS Store
Idk about difficulties changing the background, i use the browser solely to find wallpapers and just set them as background with the select button. On my series x
Good idea tbh i think Microsoft have missed a trick as if they could make the series x and s have a desktop mode there console console have more use and sell even more units though they would definitely need to be able to plug in external usb harddrives and be able to save docs ect to that
The biggest bummer is there is so much potential here. Why limit the browser to 1gb of ram before hard crashing? Why limit local file access? The game xbox frog jump gets around the first when clicking in the left stick. Really wish xbox would give this access.
🙂 sure get one of each console, the physical discs that dont need internet are the ones that you want to stock up on. In Latin America the most practical affordable console is still the PS2 and I think will always be.
something they never tell you about laptops is once the battery dies (and yes, it even degrades little by little when plugged in) your laptop will... be difficult to function even as a desktop. Your alternative is either JUST unplug your battery or replace the battery altogether. But as in my case, sometimes you can't do that. at least I hadn't figured out how to as one of the screws is stripped so I can't move it thus the whole thing is a giant paperweight. Yes, I'm typing on it now... but that's cuz after 4.5 years it decides to cooperate every once in a while, like 3x a day, but it'll still turns off randomly. Anyway if you want a desktop PC, best you GET a desktop PC not use a laptop as a desktop alternative. Also getting a Chromebook for long-term use is a whole other fish. They'll totally brick your device remotely at some date AFAIK- they aren't meant for long term use.

@@FireMrshlBill ngl I might just try getting a Series S just for the extra microsoft points, as well as it being a little more energy efficient compared to my gaming PC, I already planned a few free games to get on the xbox to remove them from my pc to save some disk space on it.
@@delayedplayer Ya, its a neat little machine. You can find some good sales on them. Also, having access to some BC 360 games not on PC that also have FPS boost is nice. Only complaint is some XB1 games that don't have X/S upgrades, you are stuck with the
Man loved that intro 😂 the pc turned into xbox nd tour reaction, made the day man. Was just re watching the 500$ pc build. Now you posted this loved ittt. Need more console typa videos. Once in a blue yk. Love your content keep em up!!
W for the boruto manga
I gave this a go a few years back. The feeling was that it COULD totally be a low level computer. Watch videos, do some writing, emails, photos etc. It coudln't, as you showed, but geez it's so close to being able to.
I love ur videos bro,I promise when I hear your voice it’s kinda calming and soothing and easy going just such a flow of information that’s easy to understand, please keep up the amazing work bro 💯💪🏾
Now you need to do a comparison to this video with using the Developer Mode
This is the kind of thing I love - trying to use something for something it wasn't meant to do!
I love these nerdy experiments!
bro knows and uses matlab, respect
4:12 i have that screen! 1440p 144hz BEAST!. Love it had it so long i cant bare to part with it yet
I bet usb camera and local storage would work in dev mode.
Might pick up a Series S in the future but wait... Is that Boys Over Flowers at 1:37?
Were you really using a ModMic wireless as your mic? What kind of Eq/settings are you using for it?
Dude love your voice so much, so calm 🎉
Great video. Firm but fair and I have to say that typing thing where you need to press b would drive me nuts too.
We finally got Perfected Super Saiyan Oz
I bought mine for $130 off FB marketplace. Probably my most clutch pick up. I could flip it for $100 more when I’m done with it.
Let's goooo I saw boruto in there
It’s crazy to see this, I bought a series s since release and been gaming up until two months ago I built my first and I can saw pc is more fun and can be used for so many applications
thats crazy, i just bought one and plan to buy two more and I open my laptop to see this video
What monitor do you use? It looks really nice
Man I remember using consoles as a kid lol. It just seems like there is no reason to pick it over a PC setup as an adult; I need one machine to do way too many things.
You should try linux on a ps4 next, a lot of challenges and frustration, but on the other hand, you have a full desktop operating system
Modern PS and Xbox consoles technically are pure computers with a handicapped operating system
Yeah just get used parts that might explode or be used in bitcoin mining, get an office PC, have a good local market, don't get scammed and hope everything fits, do a ton of research, deal with Windows 11 and you can maybe get a good experience that comes with no warranty versus a slightly less powerful all in one box that will give you zero issues and play games just fine... really now.
I’d rather buy an Xbox, plug it in and spend the time it would take to do all that geek PC shit feeling the touch of a woman
@@DogginsFroggins That never happened to me + I dont live in the USA im in germany and bitcoin miners mostly take more care of their gpu than gamers
@@JesusChrist-xr4wi Good luck spending a monthly/yearly fee to just play online and have more expensive games 🤣
valorant detects all vpn's and refuses to matchmake if one is detected. You don't need a VPN to play in different regions you just need a account from that region.
Dope vid. Can you use the xbox game pass ultimate on this? Seems better than the Nvidia game deal.
@@hazel-vf7onfor most gamers that’s fine and it prevents hackers on online games but it would be cool ngl
i mean you can do all that and more with your phone. most androids support keyboard/mouse/monitor these days. AND you can access local storage. AND theres compatibility layers that actually allow you to run pc games on them natively, along with geforce now.
The day the hypervisor is cracked is when it becomes a PC. That day is an inevitability.
Awesome vid. Very helpful
Great comparison. I have both and I play Spelunkey from Steam on my PC almost everyday. Yes, I've beat it hundreds of times but it's still a new game each time I load it up.
Yes, everything you watch in media is a commercial.
The only one that has presented all the pros and cons!
Great Video Bro 🤗
Boruto manga 😍😍😍
I will say I play my Xbox series s more than my gaming pc. But I work in IT as well and am on a computer constantly. So it is nice to use an easy chair and fire up the Xbox on a bigger screen and using a sound bar.
Damn, cool that you can do so much through the browser
What microphone do you use? I know you’ve been sponsored by the company in a past video but I’ve forgotten which video
This is a Geforce now thing and not related to the series S
man your room has awesome lightning I wish I had that
First video ive watched of this guy. Already laughed twice. This guy is cool
I see pcs and consoles becoming one over the next decade, with a new controller combines traditional controller with a mouse device somehow
You made me think we got a desktop operating system working natively on the xbox
I tried it and got parsec working from the browser to 👍🏽
Cant beat it for the price, you can get em for as low as 150, i got one for just 100 because the outer case was beat up but works normally!
You can have access to your downloads on edge it’s just you have to go to your downloads list every single time
Great video homie 😊
I know this might be a bit of topic but where did you got the desk at the beginning of the video?
If Microsoft allowed installation of Windows on XBox, they would win the console wars.
I guess Microsoft just hates money.
Good idea tbh i think Microsoft have missed a trick as if they could make the series x and s have a desktop mode there console console have more use and sell even more units though they would definitely need to be able to plug in external usb harddrives and be able to save docs ect to that
It'd be awesome if the Xbox Developer Mode was built in by default and worked like desktop mode on the Steam Deck has.
What budget GPU would you recommend for 1440p?
something they never tell you about laptops is once the battery dies (and yes, it even degrades little by little when plugged in) your laptop will... be difficult to function even as a desktop.
I wish more games supported keyboard and mouse on the Xbox, The Finals used to have keyboard and mouse but then removed it after it being unintentional and with most games the cursor feels not as responsive as it would a normal PC which makes FFXIV feel pretty weird to play
Get a microsoft developer license 20$ lets you access the storage and do all kinds of cool stuff like emulators and allowing space on the drive for just what you want
Its a little beast for sure
