I've Become Obsessed With XBOX Series X (as a PC Gamer)

  • I'm back to playing on console and this time I'm doing it on the XBOX for the first time. Sure, I've owned an Original XBOX for a while, but I completely missed out on it during the 6th generation so I'm not inclined to count it. But with STALKER 2 on the horizon, I figured that it'd be good to try out this console before I recommend anyone buy it in order to play the game.
Fortunately, as a PC Gamer there's a lot I can appreciate about what the XBOX Series X does and frankly, I've become obsessed with playing my games on this console.
It's really nice to enjoy the comfort and playing on the couch, but there's also many pros and cons that I'll get into, but for that you'll have to watch!

I often hear people saying that console games are more expensive but after getting some great deals on used discs and catching games on seasonal sales I think that's a hangover from past generations. Games go suuuper cheap in Microsoft's digital xbox store.

The Xbox Series X is by far the BEST console I've ever owned. I got my PS5 in 2021, my Series S in 2022 and my Xbox Series X a few months ago in 2024.
The Xbox ecosystem is absolutely amazing, the ability to play all the games I purchased on Xbox 360 back in the day is a feature I didn't realize how badly I missed it. Being able to play GTA 4, midnight club, gears of war & so many other brilliant OG Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games.
As far as the Xbox Series X is concerned it's honestly the best console I've ever owned. It's plenty powerful, consistently blowing me away with the fact I can play so many games with a resolution of 4K at 60fps OR 1440p at 120fps. It shocks me how gorgeous games run on the console. Not to say the PlayStation 5 doesn't have good looking games because it does but I was pleasantly surprised that the Series X performance was just as good if not better in most games I've played.
Another brilliant feature of the Xbox Series X|S consoles is quick resume. It's a feature I wish was available on every console lol but I'm so glad I have it on my Series X. I was recently playing through Red Dead Redemption 2 for the second time (side note RDR2 is superior on XSX compared to PS5, this is well known but was news to me) and I was in the middle of a mission that required quite a few steps to get going & I was pushing back enemies in a shootout when my wife called out for me to help her prepare dinner. I pressed Xbox button, clicked on home which put RDR2 into quick resume and I turned off my Xbox. About 3 hours later I booted up my XSX and there was a little tab that said quick resume, I clicked on RDR2 and bam I was back in the middle of the shootout as if nothing happened at all. It truly is REMARKABLE to be honest.
Next up is Xbox has so MANY games launching within the next 18 months. We have a great cadence for upcoming releases plus with Xbox there's a massive catalog of games from ALL the Xbox generations.
Lastly I can't talk about Xbox without mentioning gamepass. It's a brilliant subscription service that has allowed my wife and I to expand our gaming horizons substantially. We still purchase plenty of games but now we have the added ability to play games we would've never purchased otherwise. Even with the price increase it's the BEST value in gaming.
To end it all this video is lamenting everything I love about my XSX. Remote play, backwards compatibility, online functionality, and amazing games that allow us to have so many brilliant memories made. That's what it's all about, gaming is a medium that brings people together. Xbox Live connects me to a gaming community that I genuinely appreciate. Yes, the PSN does the same thing but I've found over the years the Xbox community to be more open and welcoming. Obviously there's bad toxicity in every online community but for the most part the people I've met have been cool
Long Live Xbox, happy gaming ✌️

I was primarily a PC gamer up until a year ago, all because I started working at home, meaning I would spend 8-10 hours a day in front of my PC. This pretty much made PC intolerable for me, as it would constantly remind me about it being a working station first and foremost. But then I decided to buy a console, of course due to a huge popularity of PS5 that's the console I sent my mind to buy, but then after digging a bit more and finding good and bads of each console I came to a conclusion that excluding the exclusive games (no pun intended), PS5 is objectively inferior to XBOX offering. Quick resume is a blast, backwards compatibility is absolutely insanely good, and of course game pass... I mean, I like Game Pass, don't get me wrong, but that wasn't the reason why I bought the console. I was in the market for a console, sure, but nevertheless it's the actually backwards compatibility in combination with quick resume that made a sale, because besides that these consoles are identical. Now, I got to admit that I'd rather take 30 fps over 60 fps, if it meant no more fiddling with settings for each game I own. It's an easy and seamless experience, and if playing games is your main concern, investing into a console is a good solution.

PS5 may have more quality exclusives but the Xbox is better in every other way, to the point I missed it repurchased it later. And personally, although I can’t deny the PS quality, the games started to bore me since it was just more of the same from PS4 gen. If Microsoft could somehow shift towards being fully functional offline (no online DRM) that just might push a small stone over the snowy mountain top. I am currently in a love-hate relationship with SeriesX and frankly I am rooting for Valve to make that “living room pc” instead.

    • @metaldiceman
      @metaldiceman หลายเดือนก่อน

I mean, you can't have an informed conversation about online DRM on the Xbox without delving into the weeds. So, which specific kinds of online checks, matters to the topic.
      [*] "Requires Internet" printed on the box for e.g. Battlefield 2042 -- that's game-specific.
[*] Network required for console initial setup or factory reset -- yes this is DRM that absolutely needs to go.
[*] Online connection to sync game data when you start it up -- this is to copy down your save file from the cloud. This is a bonus/convenience feature. A fully offline console can still play and store game progress.
[*] Online connection to copy or play a game from a removable drive on another console -- this is a measure to stop very easy piracy. Otherwise you could copy your game to a thumb drive, pop it out pop another one in and copy again. Then just send them to a bunch of friends.
[*] Online connection to copy or play a disc-installed game on another console -- this is DRM that needs to go. The above reason makes sense for fully digital games, since your MS account stores the license. For games installations that originated from disc, the disc holds the license so this requirement shouldn't be there for disc games. MS went with a heavy-handed approach here instead of a sensible nuanced one.
So the only DRM checks that are an actual problem, are console setup and transferring games installed from disc. Unless I'm missing something, everything else has a reasonable explanation.

Loved this video. Lately, I've been thinking about picking up a Series X again simply due to how comfortable the experience was. I've been a PC Gamer for a few years, and I only take a liking to small form factors to mimic that look of a console. The Series X nailed that look ( a strip of RGB lighting would've been perfect), and I've also been missing physical copies lately. As mentioned within the video, xbox comes closest to PC and offers better backward compatibility as opposed to the PS5. I was a playstation gamer for the longest, but the PS5 never had my interest. Funny enough, my friend and I who in the last couple of years bought higher end PC’s were just talking about this recently. We both have Xbox Series X’s and have been on consoles prior.
We both agreed that the simple nature of use and practicality over PC’s is superior. The fact that a console is truly plug and play without really any worries of software issues/updates, game launchers, accessory malfunction, graphic setting adjustments etcetera, are some of the reasons why.
You can play on any type of chair, any tv or monitor, and split screen with friends. I find my $2k PC build less appealing than the XSX if I’m being honest with myself after a couple of years.

As much as I appreciate your commentary, I have to disagree with you on one thing: Exclusives DO sell consoles. One reason Xbox sales are down is because they put all their exclusives on Game Pass on day one, meaning PC gamers can play on day one, minimizing any reason to get an Xbox. Playstation doesn't do that, increasing incentive to get one.
Other than that, *LOVE* your video! Keep 'em coming!

Maybe I didn't come across as I intended to, my intention was to confirm what the poll data indicates, which is in agreement to what you said, that exclusives are the biggest system sellers. I can see how me saying that exclusives were never really XBOX's strength (at least intentionally) can be interpreted as a rebuttal of that. I think XBOX got really lucky with Halo, their only true system seller ever. Aside from that, XBOX has been touting power and being the best multiplatform console since day one (except for XBOX one until they came up with One X) which is likely the true reason they don't sell as many systems as their competitors.

It's interesting you bring up music as an example of subscription working well. It's actually not, and shows the same flaws you fear for games. It works because more people who care very little about their libraries are fueling it. But if you really care about the music you love, it's hard to keep track of it: songs disappear off of the platforms, musicians stop their career because they don't get paid...
Similarly, a larger and larger amount of the money games make comes from players who are not *super* invested into the games. These players play what they are given, usually for free, and are happy with that.
We will have to see how this evolves, but there is a chance it could become just like music: a commodity that becomes more of a product and does not concern itself with preservation or ownership.

Anyhow, I have also ps1 and ps2 but hardly ever play them. The graphics and controls are just so bad in comparison so I cant really enjoy them anymore as I used to 20 years ago. But nice to have them for nostalgia.

Same. I've been exclusively on PC and Switch since the almost-end of the Xbone days and recently picked up a series X for a deal after selling my Switch, and I haven't touched my PC in over a month aside from weekly game nights with the boys in discord. The system is amazing, gamepass is amazing, the Xbox brand (as someone else stated) is seriously misunderstood.

This is the best "State of Gaming" video I've seen in the last 3 years. Nintendo is the exclusives king and champion of physical ownership. Sony is, or rather was, the big bullet point for single player gaming as a viable business proposition. But Xbox is, as you lay out very, very well here, the best value proposition for a gaming customer. Beginning with back compat, it's true the 6th generation is only represented by around 60+ titles. Here are my select, very hurtful omissions: Jet Set Radio Future, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, the 6th-gen EA Lord of the Rings, Medal of Honor, and James Bond games, Spider-Man 2, Spartan: Total Warrior, Crimson Sea, Burnout 3, OutRun 2, Broken Sword, Dreamfall, MechAssault, Riddick, SpikeOut, and a few others that don't need mentioning but people obviously love from that time period.
But those 60+ that *are* included?! INCREDIBLE games that stand the test of time, equaling or even bettering their current-day equivalents for gameplay, and have boosted performance due to Xbox's FPS boost and other Series X Enhancement features. Things like: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Morrowind, KotOR I and II, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jade Empire, Jedi Outcast and Academy, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, Crimson Skies, Gladius, Ninja Gaiden Black, Phantom Dust (an enhanced port for free, mind!), the Splinter Cells, Battlefront I and II, Republic Commando, Psychonauts, hell, Otogi 1 and 2 for PENNIES compared to their secondhand market values! There's even some 6th-gen remasters that aren't strict back compat but go for massive sales under $10 regularly, making them effectively back compat with a small upfront cost (things like Onimusha Warlords, Enclave HD, Shenmue, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance I and II, Fable, or the big one, Halo: MCC)
This is to say nothing of the 360 emulation, which is best in class, includes basically everything you could possibly want with some rare exceptions, and arguably makes 360 emulators like Xenia... kind of pointless to me, when I have nearly the whole selection of back compat games on disc or through the digital store for dirt, dirt cheap and available natively out of the box.
The features on Series X also are ridiculous. Play Anywhere giving you 2 SKUs, a PC and Console version, with one pop? That would be like buying a game on Steam or GoG and getting the other storefront's version free or at reduced price. I've mentioned the FPS boost and enhancement features, but seriously, you can play Sonic Unleashed, a game with notorious slowdown in some of the trickier level segments, with FLAWLESS performance on Series X. It's practically a free Remastered version. These enhancements revive that age-old argument about how, yes, the PS2 had a huge library of games, but the best place to play them was on Xbox. Just look at the Max Payne games.
Great video. I hope it brings you the audience you deserve. Subbed immediately.

While I don’t agree with most of your arguments I do want to clarify one thing. XBOX EMULATION IS NOT OWNERSHIP. You still need to download the Xbox 360 game from there database. It’s more like you have a version of a game so we are allowing you to play our version of our game. This is an issue because if the Xbox servers go offline say goodbye to all your original and Xbox 360 titles unless you have a working Xbox or Xbox 360 laying around.

I can fully relate to this and even went for the XBox + Multimedia Laptop route, you described. My PC has been unplugged since 1.5 years and wasn't touched again. It's pretty amazing what this little box can deliver and it looks incredibly nice on my desk, beside my screen and soundbar.
Less power demand, almost zero noise and far less heat production, since I've been an oldschool air-fan guy.
With Quick Resume on top of this, which is just a game changer (pun not intended) this device literally triggered a paradigm change for me regarding gaming. And since RTS are my genre of choice, it has far more options than a PS5 - kudos to Relic, who killed CoH3 on consoles btw, LOL

A few years ago Xbox released the last list of titles that were added to backwards compatibility noting that they're weren't doing anymore due to legal issues, expensive music licenses, shit down devs etc.
Since the Activision/Blizzard purchase, they have started working on backwards compatibility again (as seen in the showcase clip of the lady). So maybe in due time all those classic COD titles will be back in the store or available to play again on disc.
I think with time Xbox will be back in the race for console sales. Maybe that rumored handheld will do numbers. For now I'll be happily playing Max Payne on my series X

I am so glad that there are games that give you the option. On the Xbox store it says stalker 2 will support mouse and keyboard and I hope that’s true because the trilogy does not support it which was a bummer.

The only plus side of Game pass is if you had a membership and canceled it, they throw $1 months at you constantly so you will hopefully resub and forget to cancel. I always cancel.
Do not buy a single damn microtransaction if you don't actually own a copy of the game, you are giving them extra money for stuff you can't play once you stop paying.
I have a top of the line last gen pc set up, but i recently picked up an xbox series s so i could play CFB25, my first console since my launch model xbox 360. I thought i would only play CFB25, but when i noticed all the extra games i could play with game pass ultimate that i can't play on PC. If its a shooter game or if i want insane frames and quality i play on PC, if its just for fun or to kill a little time the xbox boots up. So i can play in my office or play it in the living room or bedroom, without having to move an entire gaming setup. I was able to grab this Series S for only $100 from a lady at work selling her sons xbox since he failed a class lol. I would 1000% buy a Series X over the S but i had no extremely cheap option for that, as the digital only platform is complete crap that can just be turned off when microsoft feels like.
