Which makes it difficult to make the choice of investing in him, since one has probably already made the choice to have Effie as their knight/general of the party until the endgame. Benny fares better in 'Revelation', where he comes the same chapter as Effie does AND you can grind; so he is thus a more viable option as a unit on the battlefield, where you get more time to make use of his strengths. Not to mention getting more time with him as a character as a result.
Nohr guys are awesome. It's like you said, "do not let the appearances deceive you". Xander seemed like a serious and rather ruthless prince in the trailers, but he has a really soft side and cares about his familly. He is my main dude with Speedtaker. And Nyx, Charlotte, Leo, Niles...they have all this hidden depth. The sweet, sweet Elise. I swear, don't give me a chapter to point a sword against her! That beast Camilla rocks and destroy every foe! Arthur is crazy awesome too, but mine turned not that good on the field. I don't even want to play Birthright anymore! Don't want to fight the dark kingdom and kill off or maim the guys and gals I love so much. Still have to do it though, because I got the special edition as present...but I already feel like I will not like Hoshido as much.
I'm glad you like so much Nohr but don't let that affect your opinion of Hoshido too much. I know it's not easy to fight against the character you've grown to love but that's the entire point of fates, you're meant to experience both sides of the story and fight both for and against each side in order to show that no side is either right or wrong at the end of the day, and how you have to live with the choices you make but keep on fighting regardless.
When you kept saying appearances can be deceiving, i thought you were going to lead into Forrest, who is one of my favorites and one of my strongest in Revelation.
It wasn't too difficult of a choice because based on the first six chapters of the game, I had no feelings or emotional ties to hoshido, at least with nohr I got the chance to get to know each of the siblings and see them interact with each other, hoshido was like, 'we're your really family... now pick a side!'
Haven't gotten Birthright yet(still need to beat Conquest, Chapter 19). I'm gonna feel like a total douchebag when I'm playing Birthright , aren't I (and my heart is gonna have a hard time too, isn't it)?
Keaton and Effie are definitely my favorite non-royal, non-Awakening, and non-child units. Mainly because they caused two of my personal favorite badass gameplay moments (excluding all moments where Ophelia activates a skill and then gets a crit on top of that) to occur. For Keaton, it came from the entirety of Chapter 19, where the furry Incredible Hulk was the only unit to survive the onslaught (thank god for Casual Mode) thanks to Beastbane and Better Odds. For Effie, it was towards the end of Chapter 21, where all the other units escaped but circumstances force Effie between Faceless and certain death. So the final stretch of Chapter 21 was Effie making what was essentially a last stand (and probably would've been an actual last stand if I wasn't playing Casual), fighting off waves of Faceless before going down.
hey.... this is fates content! wow! this has been a long time coming! either way conquest was my favorite path. mostly because of it having what I consider the stronger cast. my favorite character would have to be Xander, god, I wish he was the main character sooooooo badly. also, he is super powerful as a unit and how sword is borderline broken. the new intro is really nice, liked that. annnnd... i'm now really triggered cause I wanted to get my fates video done before you did.... I've barely edited a third of it. oh, and hey 7k subs, that's a pretty big number.
God, Xander saved my sore butt multiple times on my first playthrough, which was on hard. Unfortunately, he does have low resistance, and often gets doubled, but is otherwise a TANK. Maybe I should reclass him into a great knight on my next playthrough.
+Buck Wade the resistance was never a problem for me, what with me having Elise on my team and spamming the hell out of rally resistance. as for Great Knight Xander, he gets two skills that work insanely well on him, but the paladin's stat caps make better use of said skills.
If Camilla wasn't one of the best Units in combat I wouldn't have just put her on the bench, I would have buried her under it. I don't buy into the argument that oversexualised characters can't also be good and have deep personalities (because why wouldn't they) but I don't see how you could refer to her as such. During best moments she just annoyed me, in her worst moments she made my skin crawl and I can't help but think they let a thirsty 16 year old weeaboo write and design her.
I know it's an older video, but I've watched it several times. I just wanted to say it's nice to meet another who finds Camilla interesting. I find Xander interesting too, but I've taken a bit of heat for liking Camilla or at least for saying how interesting I find her. They both have interesting backstories and characters, and I really enjoy exploring them, especially Camilla's; must be the writer in me. I mean, I didn't have a fair opinion of Camilla at first, but after learning more about her, she really became a favorite of mine.
She may be a speedy glass cannon, but even though I got Odin before her, I still kept her from the moment I got her. She also has awesome hair(...I don't know why I like her hair so much)!

I left Effie in the dust after Benny's chapter, and for good reason. Strength may be an admirable quality in Generals, but their high defenses are their real defining characteristic. He's a wall if I've ever seen one, with unparalleled defense and HP as well as decent enough strength to get the job done. Heck, give him a Hexlock Spear and he'll be able to decimate magic users.

For Elise it is simple to get her at level 20. You go to the first visited castle and you attack Selkie. Then you put Elise behind your first unit. You end your turn and with Selkie's personal skills your unit will lose 5 hp. You heal your first unit with Elise and Elise will get XP. Do this whole thing again to put your Elise level 20. It work with all healers
Man I love good ol Keaton, he was my first husband in any of my games and I honestly started crying when I had to kill him in birthright, he was only trying to protect his friends ; - ; and he was gonna let you through until his friend dies.
For Birthright characters, while not all as great as Conquest's, I'm willing to bet that Crash will like a certain few. Especially one who's name rhymes with Assama. And sadly, while Ryoma isn't as great of a character as Xander, but in battle....AAHHAHAHAASTRAAHAHAHA. Let's just say that Ryoma is quite SKILLful.

so, i love Benny, at first i thought 3 was going to be Benny, but my hopes were shattered; of course, he isn't my favorite character, but the reason he's really close is because in Revelation (Spoilers, by the way, stop reading if you haven't finished) in Chapter 24 'Days Lost' I had about 10 party members left when i had gotten to the final set of doors and like an idiot i open up the door my mother told me to and everyone was left with 1 hp, and the doors open to reveal TONS of enemies, followed by my stupid decision to open the other door where my mother and her guards were waiting, not only that, but some of my units had already finished their turn when i opened the doors, 4 of my best were left standing, while Benny, 2 healers and a few mages and archers were still allowed to move, so i have the healers, Hinoka, and Sakura heal Benny to only about 20 hp since they only had wane festals left, everyone is killed, except for Benny who is left with 11 hp after being damaged, he kills EVERYTHING that hurt him and the enemies left can't even damage Benny, he completes the chapter on his own basically against around 12 enemies who were left, it was amazing, to say the least, also im sorry for the long comment

Great first countdown for the Fire Emblem Fates-Athon. Although to be honest, I feel if I made a similar list, Charlotte, Nyx, and Pieri wouldn't make it, and Beruka, Odin, and Laslow would've been.
#10: I like this character too, even though she has a bad habit of dying really easily. I just really like how she's both fast and powerful. #9: Heh, this guy is hilarious. Also, Wolfskins are amazing, since Beaststones actually fix their mediocre speed and skill. #8: A useful lock-picking unit, plus his supports are pretty solid. #7: Yeah, I was also surprised by how likable she was, plus her passive skill is one of my favorites. #6: One of my favorites to use on the battlefield. Her crit rates are so high it's hysterical, especially if you give her Death Blow. Also, STICK DAT ASS OUT! #5: Adorable. Also an amazing healer. #4: I do wish his speed wasn't shit (it caps REALLY low compared to other mages), but otherwise he's pretty great. #3: Yeah, baby! Hits like a truck and tanks hits too, and her passive just makes her even better. #2: Again, he has problems with speed, but his defense is through the roof to the point some enemies can't do shit to him. #1: Easily one of my favorites. Useful in nearly every situation, plus I love her character and supports. And even if you ignore that, you can still love her for the tits!
The thing that I hate about Camilla and why she is my least favourite royal family member of both royal families, is because of her story text. Litterally everything she says was: ''Oh, my dear sweet corrin'' ''Oh, I don't feel as strongly as the others, but someone who hurts my dear corrin most certaintly deserves death'' This got old really fast

My 3 favourite royals are Azura, Takumi and Sakura Azura: Her design is amazing, her story role was amazing, everything about her is amazing Takumi: May be a dick at first, but can be really nice once he opens up to you. He also wants to be a family and is way better in both story and gameplay. (broken as hell archer) Sakura is just really cute and amazing, and a great healer
The cool thing about Conquest is that Leo and Camilla are the best Nohr Characters (imo) and you are almost bound to take them with you because they already start out strong. Leo is additionally my favourite fates Character in general. However, he's just my third favorite Mage, next to Sephiran and Soren ^^
Apparantly my avatar had a beastiality thing going on, because I had Keaton marry my avatar in Conquest and Kaden in Birthright. They came into my group at a pretty similar time when I was still looking for an enjoyable partner. As I'm an Aussie (I SHARE YOUR PAIN, Crash) I don't get Revelations until the 10th, so I'll probably pick someone else for my avatar during that playthough. (Also, PSA, on Conquest, pass Draconic Hex to your Avatar's children. It is ridiculously good, and it can trivialise many bosses).
Out of all the returning awakening characters, which of the three did you happen to like the most unit wise? Personally I liked Selena for the fact that she acts more like a Myrmidon rather than a mercenary so it added more variety to the team.
There's actually a really deep and epic reason the awakening characters returned. You'll see once you play hidden truths and heirs of fate after revelations. I promise. It builds up to something. It's not laziness. It's part of a sort of world building intelligent systems did with this game and awakening.
See, this list is why I waited for Revelations to come out before I began playing Fire Emblem Fates. There are just too many good characters from both sides, and I could not but fall in love with some of them.
As so far I understand the conflict between the *Hoshido* and its rival the *Nohr* is nothing but stupid as the Nohr envied Hoshido's bountiful lands because they benefits from fair, sunny weather, resulting in plentiful food supplies, to the point where there is more than enough to feed the combined populations of both Hoshido and Nohr while Nohr suffers from unusually poor weather conditions and contrary to popular belief, the sun does occasionally shine over Nohr, but most of the time the skies are deeply overcast and stormy, and the lack of sunlight fosters a tundra-like climate where only the hardiest plants can grow, resulting in continually poor crop yields and frequent food shortages.
King Garon offered to meet King Sumeragi in Cheve, ostensibly to resolve the differences between their two nations. Sumeragi brought the child with him to the negotiations. Garon ambushed and killed Sumeragi, then abducted the defenseless child to be raised among the Nohrian royals. In retaliation, Hoshidan ninjas kidnapped the Nohrian princess Azura, daughter of Garon's second wife Arete, who hailed from Valla. So that mean the Nohr are the villains since they one who started everything in the first place.
well, thats's sort of what they want you to think. That's the point that King Garon is evil and wants to take Hoshido, not for it's resources, but just for the heck of it as it seems.
Tbh can't say I agree that Camilla is anywhere near as complex or dope as Xander but hey that's why it's an opinionated list right. As always, great video, keep up the good work it never fails to impress.

Aren't there no 'Conquest Only' characters? Conquest is the game I've spent the least time in but from what I know, all the characters I have recruited in Conquest, I also have in Revelations. And this would be the same for Birthright if it wasn't for things like certain plot elements as well as Yukimura refusing to do anything outside of Hoshido and making him a Birthright exclusive.
Plus aren't none of those three characters playable in conquest? Except maybe the flamboyant one (Trying to be vague and avoid spoilers) but I'm not really sure what Castle Requirements recruit him.
Mostly the latter because even though I like these characters (especially Owain), I find their inclusion to be unnecessary and just lazy, granted I haven't played hidden truths yet so I'll reserve full judgement until I do.

Can't wait for Birthright characters (Birthright is my favorite so far and i'm up to chapter 18 in Conquest) My favorites are - Benny, Effie, Keaton, Peri, Odin, Niles and Xander (So far, Nyx is rather close as well as Leo)
I plan to do top 10/15 overall characters and take all routes into consideration, and as for corrin supports, it depends since I won't be making that video until towards the end of the marathon and the second time I play through each pathway I'm playing as a female, so I guess we'll just wait and see.
You should try to make Xander and Nyx have support conversations, since it goes into more details on what their views about the war is and how they feel about their position they're in. It even shows how they're able to relate to one another. Also, the B support conversation between Xander and Beruka did kinda make me laugh in a sense. I've never seen Beruka so intimated.
I personally like the birthright characters better then the conquest characters. Might be japanese pride, but yeah. Heck, that's why I chose to play birthright first anyways.
Nice list. I have to say on my first playthrough of conquest Peri got all the good rolls for level ups. She has the highest Atk in that playthrough. My top ten characters I used in Conquest(I'm including shared characters since I used these ones more then the others also no particular order since I like every playable character in all routes.) were My Avatar, Elise, Xander, Leo, Camilla, Peri, Felicia, Nyx, Azura, and Keaton. I'm currently working on getting S Ranks and A ranks with every character though. I have a ton more to do, but have completed every single S rank on My Male Avatar only so far. Oh and did you know you can easily miss a second gen character when playing as a Male Avatar?
Not beaten Conquest yet but here are my top 10 at the moment: 10. Arthur 9. Benny 8. Keaton 7. Selena 6. Camilla 5. Laslow 4. Xander 3. Leo 2. Odin 1. Niles
I just started this game. I played awakening and knew that I had to make most my characters sky knights to get the extra turn. What's the best job class in this game to get the best extra priveledges.

Tbh, Benny is a better knight because of his insane defense. I had Benny at 45 Defense in one playthrough, and he still wasn't maxed out in defense
Effie and Benny are opposites. Effie is stronger while Benny is more defensive.

Keaton and Effie are definitely my favorite non-royal, non-Awakening, and non-child units. Mainly because they caused two of my personal favorite badass gameplay moments (excluding all moments where Ophelia activates a skill and then gets a crit on top of that) to occur.
For Keaton, it came from the entirety of Chapter 19, where the furry Incredible Hulk was the only unit to survive the onslaught (thank god for Casual Mode) thanks to Beastbane and Better Odds.
For Effie, it was towards the end of Chapter 21, where all the other units escaped but circumstances force Effie between Faceless and certain death. So the final stretch of Chapter 21 was Effie making what was essentially a last stand (and probably would've been an actual last stand if I wasn't playing Casual), fighting off waves of Faceless before going down.
Am I the only one who hates the fact that they took the Awakening characters and put them in this game.

hey.... this is fates content! wow! this has been a long time coming! either way conquest was my favorite path. mostly because of it having what I consider the stronger cast.
my favorite character would have to be Xander, god, I wish he was the main character sooooooo badly. also, he is super powerful as a unit and how sword is borderline broken.

God, Xander saved my sore butt multiple times on my first playthrough, which was on hard. Unfortunately, he does have low resistance, and often gets doubled, but is otherwise a TANK. Maybe I should reclass him into a great knight on my next playthrough.
+Buck Wade the resistance was never a problem for me, what with me having Elise on my team and spamming the hell out of rally resistance.
as for Great Knight Xander, he gets two skills that work insanely well on him, but the paladin's stat caps make better use of said skills.
If Camilla wasn't one of the best Units in combat I wouldn't have just put her on the bench, I would have buried her under it.
I don't buy into the argument that oversexualised characters can't also be good and have deep personalities (because why wouldn't they) but I don't see how you could refer to her as such.
During best moments she just annoyed me, in her worst moments she made my skin crawl and I can't help but think they let a thirsty 16 year old weeaboo write and design her.

I know it's an older video, but I've watched it several times. I just wanted to say it's nice to meet another who finds Camilla interesting. I find Xander interesting too, but I've taken a bit of heat for liking Camilla or at least for saying how interesting I find her. They both have interesting backstories and characters, and I really enjoy exploring them, especially Camilla's; must be the writer in me. I mean, I didn't have a fair opinion of Camilla at first, but after learning more about her, she really became a favorite of mine.
Xander & Leo are my favorite royals(male) hands down.

I left Effie in the dust after Benny's chapter, and for good reason. Strength may be an admirable quality in Generals, but their high defenses are their real defining characteristic. He's a wall if I've ever seen one, with unparalleled defense and HP as well as decent enough strength to get the job done. Heck, give him a Hexlock Spear and he'll be able to decimate magic users.

For Elise it is simple to get her at level 20.
You go to the first visited castle and you attack Selkie.
Then you put Elise behind your first unit.
You end your turn and with Selkie's personal skills your unit will lose 5 hp.
You heal your first unit with Elise and Elise will get XP.
Do this whole thing again to put your Elise level 20.
It work with all healers
But if he was Zero he couldn't aNILEate people.

Dude, in game, both as an ally and an enemy, I always found Ryoma to be FAR stronger and tougher than Xander.

so, i love Benny, at first i thought 3 was going to be Benny, but my hopes were shattered; of course, he isn't my favorite character, but the reason he's really close is because in Revelation (Spoilers, by the way, stop reading if you haven't finished) in Chapter 24 'Days Lost' I had about 10 party members left when i had gotten to the final set of doors and like an idiot i open up the door my mother told me to and everyone was left with 1 hp, and the doors open to reveal TONS of enemies, followed by my stupid decision to open the other door where my mother and her guards were waiting, not only that, but some of my units had already finished their turn when i opened the doors, 4 of my best were left standing, while Benny, 2 healers and a few mages and archers were still allowed to move, so i have the healers, Hinoka, and Sakura heal Benny to only about 20 hp since they only had wane festals left, everyone is killed, except for Benny who is left with 11 hp after being damaged, he kills EVERYTHING that hurt him and the enemies left can't even damage Benny, he completes the chapter on his own basically against around 12 enemies who were left, it was amazing, to say the least, also im sorry for the long comment

Great first countdown for the Fire Emblem Fates-Athon. Although to be honest, I feel if I made a similar list, Charlotte, Nyx, and Pieri wouldn't make it, and Beruka, Odin, and Laslow would've been.
#10: I like this character too, even though she has a bad habit of dying really easily. I just really like how she's both fast and powerful. #9: Heh, this guy is hilarious. Also, Wolfskins are amazing, since Beaststones actually fix their mediocre speed and skill. #8: A useful lock-picking unit, plus his supports are pretty solid. #7: Yeah, I was also surprised by how likable she was, plus her passive skill is one of my favorites. #6: One of my favorites to use on the battlefield. Her crit rates are so high it's hysterical, especially if you give her Death Blow. Also, STICK DAT ASS OUT! #5: Adorable. Also an amazing healer. #4: I do wish his speed wasn't shit (it caps REALLY low compared to other mages), but otherwise he's pretty great. #3: Yeah, baby! Hits like a truck and tanks hits too, and her passive just makes her even better. #2: Again, he has problems with speed, but his defense is through the roof to the point some enemies can't do shit to him. #1: Easily one of my favorites. Useful in nearly every situation, plus I love her character and supports. And even if you ignore that, you can still love her for the tits!

The thing that I hate about Camilla and why she is my least favourite royal family member of both royal families, is because of her story text. Litterally everything she says was: ''Oh, my dear sweet corrin'' ''Oh, I don't feel as strongly as the others, but someone who hurts my dear corrin most certaintly deserves death''

The cool thing about Conquest is that Leo and Camilla are the best Nohr Characters (imo) and you are almost bound to take them with you because they already start out strong. Leo is additionally my favourite fates Character in general. However, he's just my third favorite Mage, next to Sephiran and Soren ^^
Apparantly my avatar had a beastiality thing going on, because I had Keaton marry my avatar in Conquest and Kaden in Birthright. They came into my group at a pretty similar time when I was still looking for an enjoyable partner. As I'm an Aussie (I SHARE YOUR PAIN, Crash) I don't get Revelations until the 10th, so I'll probably pick someone else for my avatar during that playthough. (Also, PSA, on Conquest, pass Draconic Hex to your Avatar's children. It is ridiculously good, and it can trivialise many bosses).
Out of all the returning awakening characters, which of the three did you happen to like the most unit wise? Personally I liked Selena for the fact that she acts more like a Myrmidon rather than a mercenary so it added more variety to the team.

There's actually a really deep and epic reason the awakening characters returned. You'll see once you play hidden truths and heirs of fate after revelations. I promise. It builds up to something. It's not laziness. It's part of a sort of world building intelligent systems did with this game and awakening.

See, this list is why I waited for Revelations to come out before I began playing Fire Emblem Fates. There are just too many good characters from both sides, and I could not but fall in love with some of them.
As so far I understand the conflict between the *Hoshido* and its rival the *Nohr* is nothing but stupid as the Nohr envied Hoshido's bountiful lands because they benefits from fair, sunny weather, resulting in plentiful food supplies, to the point where there is more than enough to feed the combined populations of both Hoshido and Nohr while Nohr suffers from unusually poor weather conditions and contrary to popular belief, the sun does occasionally shine over Nohr, but most of the time the skies are deeply overcast and stormy, and the lack of sunlight fosters a tundra-like climate where only the hardiest plants can grow, resulting in continually poor crop yields and frequent food shortages.
King Garon offered to meet King Sumeragi in Cheve, ostensibly to resolve the differences between their two nations. Sumeragi brought the child with him to the negotiations. Garon ambushed and killed Sumeragi, then abducted the defenseless child to be raised among the Nohrian royals. In retaliation, Hoshidan ninjas kidnapped the Nohrian princess Azura, daughter of Garon's second wife Arete, who hailed from Valla. So that mean the Nohr are the villains since they one who started everything in the first place.
well, thats's sort of what they want you to think. That's the point that King Garon is evil and wants to take Hoshido, not for it's resources, but just for the heck of it as it seems.
While that is the plot of both Conquest and Birthright, Revelation expands on that, explaining why Garon is power-hungry to the point of going insane.

Aren't there no 'Conquest Only' characters? Conquest is the game I've spent the least time in but from what I know, all the characters I have recruited in Conquest, I also have in Revelations. And this would be the same for Birthright if it wasn't for things like certain plot elements as well as Yukimura refusing to do anything outside of Hoshido and making him a Birthright exclusive.

I plan to do top 10/15 overall characters and take all routes into consideration, and as for corrin supports, it depends since I won't be making that video until towards the end of the marathon and the second time I play through each pathway I'm playing as a female, so I guess we'll just wait and see.

You should try to make Xander and Nyx have support conversations, since it goes into more details on what their views about the war is and how they feel about their position they're in. It even shows how they're able to relate to one another.
Also, the B support conversation between Xander and Beruka did kinda make me laugh in a sense. I've never seen Beruka so intimated.

Nice list. I have to say on my first playthrough of conquest Peri got all the good rolls for level ups. She has the highest Atk in that playthrough. My top ten characters I used in Conquest(I'm including shared characters since I used these ones more then the others also no particular order since I like every playable character in all routes.) were My Avatar, Elise, Xander, Leo, Camilla, Peri, Felicia, Nyx, Azura, and Keaton.
I'm currently working on getting S Ranks and A ranks with every character though. I have a ton more to do, but have completed every single S rank on My Male Avatar only so far.
Oh and did you know you can easily miss a second gen character when playing as a Male Avatar?
