I love adjustable wig grips that are narrow in the back. The Milano is too bulky for my 22 inch head. All your hints are fabulous! You are lovey baby mama!
Thank you, Steph for your awesome tips. I have worn the Jon Renau Ignite wig everyday for for years. All of your tips are exceptional and things that I have learned to use over the years. The one tip that I have never used is using concealer on the hairline and the part. Can’t wait to try this because you obviously know how to make a wig look realistic as well as making it be more long lasting.
Hi. For new wig wearers... the hair cap ... the one you get free with some wigs .... fish net style. To prevent it sliding up under your wig. Use the tightest section on the back or cut it off. So you just have fish net both sides. Then put on wig grip and wig. I found this works as I was not using head cap to protect my bio hair until I did this. No slipping and rolling up. Hope this helps someone
Hi Steph, first of all, Thank you so much for the knowledge you share, I wish I had found you earlier. I have around 10 wigs now & barely wear them. I made the mistake of buying RW shaded biscuit & they are just too dark in the root for me. I also have a couple that have just too much hair for me, 1 is RW Nice Move. Do you have a video of how to properly thin the hair out? I would be grateful to see this done correctly before I take the thinning scissors to it. Scared of ruining it! I love RW wigs as they fit me perfectly & are sooo comfortable to wear. I just need more confidence to relax when wearing a wig. Wishing you all the very best for Christmas & the New Year. Thank you for this video. I am one of those ones that does not wear a wig grip. What works for me is gluing the wig down around the front hairline and using the comb in the back to anchor the wig down in the back. I leave 1/4 " extra lace and I glue only on the skin. Saving my hairline from glue. I use only water-soluble glue layering it before applying wig and melting it into the skin. Head shaped like a cone.

Wig wearer here for a little over 20 years . . . So many advances in the last two decades. As to wig grips, the one that works best for me looks like the Milano (which I have, but can't use), e.g., velvet lined, but NOT with the velcro -- it has to have the bra-like adjuster in the back. Otherwise, the ones that are thick all around, with the velcro adjusters, have zero gripping effect and just slip off my head. I know lots of other wig wearers who experience the same thing with the velvet, velcro adjustable wig grips. There's something for everyone these days. Thank you for your video.

They gave me a horrible headache. I also hated the traditional wig cap. It too was always slipping and felt hot under the wig. So I'm loving these wig grips, Madison Headwear, No Slip. Sometimes, too, if I have a wig that runs a little big on me (I have a petite head 20.5") and I've adjusted the straps in the back and it's still loose, I will lightly spray Got2bglued on my hairline, wait a few seconds so it gets tacky, then apply the wig. It's an added security. Love your content !
Tried so many and haven’t found a grip that works for me. Only adhesive. But I need to work on the hairline and part because I’m fair with dark hair. Will watch that video again!

I had no idea about wearing heat friendly wigs in the summer heat rather than non heat friendly. I always wondered why my first wig last year went bad so fast. It was a non heat friendly wig and looked pretty bad after 1 month!

She is beautiful, however , she is a little too dense and doesn’t look natural on me ….yet. I asked my hairdresser about thinner her but I don’t think she knows much about wigs. ( I’m a little hesitant) Should I have her use tweezers or thinning sheers or both? And should it be on my head while she is doing it? It’s totally normal to feel like it’s too dense at first, but thinning it out will really make a difference! If your hairdresser isn't too experienced with wigs, I recommend just having her use thinning shears. They’re easier to control and will help reduce density without compromising the structure of the wig. If you’re feeling confident and want to try some thinning yourself, I actually have a video where I break down plucking hairs and thinning in the easiest way possible. Perhaps take your wig to a wig shop and ask if they can thin it out for you. They're so knowledgeable, helpful and will be working hard to keep you as a client! 😉
hi steph i have just started to were wigs as my own hair is very thin i feel so much better but trying to make them natural looking is dificult as it looks bulky and slides off my head how do you get them to fit properly without grips
I have alopecia areata , I live in ball caps and bandanas. At least its winter and I can wear a toque. I want a wig, have for many years ,but I chicken out because alopecia is soul destroying. I need to start but I don't know how.
Definitely, not wearing a regular synthetic in full sun or near heat, great point. I love Milano wig grips. I have bought others, but those are my best, and just the plain ones -- no lace on them. I have one and can never get it to work properly. I use concealer powder on the parting -- haven't done it at the hairline yet. I do have dark biohair so, daubing that part line is critical. I have been lazy about tweezing but I am going to revisit all my wigs to see if any could use some plucking. I wear human hair wigs now, so it is scary to do anything to them, since they are so expensive, but I think it is a good idea. I get 120% density only now -- learned that after years of buying wigs. I use a Renau comb and a looper brush, which are very gentle on any wig, synthetic or human. I have boar bristle brushes for my biohair and have never used one on a HH wig -- I might try it. Thank you Stephanie for your video and the great advice! I am new to the wig gig and must admit I have no clue on washing frequency. If I wash too often I am afraid to prematurely damage the wig. When do you know it is time to give a good wash and refresh to a wig? Do you systematically wash your HF wigs before refeshing them with heat? What is your routine rythm regarding washing and refreshing? On combing, it may seem silly, but I like to tackle knots with finger combing instead of comb (be it fine or wide tooth): as soon as I feel a knot I delicately loosen it with my fingers and I feel that with this technique I have less fibers breakage/pulling.

For synthetic wigs, I generally wash them every 8-12 wears, but this can vary based on factors like weather, how much product I use, or how sweaty the wig gets. If the fibers are super stiff and sticking together like crazy, and there's so many tangles, or there's noticeable buildup, that’s usually my cue for a wash. For heat-friendly (HF) wigs specifically, I do tend to wash them before refreshing with heat, as it helps remove any buildup that could interfere with the styling process and ensures the fibers are in their best condition for heat application. As for my routine rhythm, I aim for a refresh every few weeks if I wear the wig often. That refresh can be as simple as using a clothing steamer or applying low heat to smooth out the fibers, especially at the ends where tangling occurs most. And your method of finger combing is not silly at all-it’s actually a great technique! It’s gentle on the fibers and helps prevent unnecessary breakage or shedding. I do the same when I notice small tangles forming. Finger combing with a detangler spray can make the process even easier and keep your wig in great shape for longer. Using concealer, I’ve had two wigs where their lace oxidized. Is there anyway to get rid of this, as I can’t wear them anymore. Also, is there a way for lace not to oxidize?
“wig riding up”. I do not have much of an occipital bone. I have tried wig grips, numerous kinds and they ride up as well. What is your professional opinion to help me?
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out! 😊 If you don’t have much of an occipital bone, that can definitely make it harder for wigs to stay in place. I’d recommend trying a few things: Double-Sided Tape: Some people find success with wig tape, especially along the hairline or at the nape. It adds extra security, especially if you’re having issues with wig grips. Adjustable Bands: If your wig has an adjustable band, make sure it’s tightened enough at the nape of the neck. This can help keep the wig from riding up. And on the contrary, if the wig is done up too tight, this can also cause it to ride up! Strike the balance here because I've seen this go both ways! Silicone Wig Grip: If traditional wig grips aren’t working, you could try one with a silicone strip, which has more of a tacky feel that can provide extra hold. I hope one of these tips helps! I have the same issue. If you have Bio hair, what works for me is to put your bio hair into 2 pigtails and then pin them back and overlapping at the nape of your neck. Think upside down milkmaid braids! 😅 Then put your wig grip on, making sure the grip is under the pigtails at the nape of the neck. I also pull my wig adjustable band under the pigtails. This technique makes a "false occipital bone".LOL My head is nearly flat in the back. It's crazy!! Hope this helps 🙏🏻

Can anyone recommend the right shampoo and conditioner for synthetic wigs. I cant seem to get the conditioner to work well and get out the tangles? I even try using spray in conditioner and it doesnt help. Thanks kindly?💕
I’m a brain tumor survivor and have a sensitive spot by one of my ears. The Milano top grip works perfect for me. The others give me a headache, but there are grips for everyone.

Ive had everything but the silicone & i cannot keep them on. The shape of my head is weird & I keep trying ALL the time!! HELP.. I've got snow white hair so I cant really wear darker wigs. Its so irritating 😢

Hi there. When I applied concealer or foundation to lace, it just looked awful- no matter how many tutorials I watched. So, being an artist, I mix fabric paint to my skin tone and apply to the lace. I think it looks better, I hope it does!
That's wonderful you've found that trick! =) I feel the same way, which is why I always use eyeshadow and then dust it off the hair (if I miss lol)!! Foundation I find looks chunky, but I know that some people like to use it, so I mentioned it :)

Great question! I’ve had a similar one before! 😊 Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend adding highlights to a heat-friendly synthetic wig. Synthetic fibers don’t react to color processes like human hair does, and without experience, it can be tempting to try but might not yield the results you’re hoping for. Plus, you never know what processes the fiber has already gone through to achieve its current color, and without knowing that, it’s hard to predict how it will react to further coloring. It could end up damaging the fibers or not taking color at all.
Does anyone know where I can find an inexpensive wig that looks somewhat natural and I dont need to wear a hat to hide the hairline? Or it looks more natural on top? @@MichellePage-t6i Yes, absolutely! :) I also use the bore brush on my own bio hair and because I’ve had it for years, it has my own oils sitting in the brush already at this point, so when I use it to brush through my human hair wigs, my oils are dispersed. But totally, if it’s a brand new bore brush, and you’re only using it on a wig, then yes, you must add oils
I don't need a wig grip. I have a big head n they always stay on just fine, by themselves. A new wig is always a bit small on my head until it stretches out. Estetica fits me best. ❤ and i only buy wigs that do not have a lace front. I don't need a lace front either. ❤

I have a very flat head so I can’t wear a wig grip because they slide off. If anyone has a recommendation please comment. Also find many wigs have excess bunching in the back because my head shape doesn’t fill it out in the back.
@@tonyagifford5143 awe I’m sorry someone you saw cut your wig crooked! That’s never good. I still stand by what I say though. You can walk into any good salon, and sit in any stylists chair (make sure you’ve looked into their work prior- because cutting hair is a learnt skill) and as long as you’re wearing your wig on your head in the same spot you will continue to wear your wig, a good stylist can cut it. Wearing a wig is the same as wearing your own head of hair. The outcome of the cut will come down to who you’ve chosen to see and their experience with cutting hair.
I like 100 density wigs. They are so hard to find. Even 120 is alot of hair for me. It looks like I have to much hair on top of my head. Uggh. I use thinning sheers on them. Wish there was more 100 density wigs. I love boar brushes.❤

Milano is the only brand I’ve ever had that stays on my head and keeps my wig on. One day I forgot a Zoom meeting and just plopped a wig on my head with no grip. I had to speak at the meeting and watched my monitor in horror as my wig slid backwards on my head 🙀I couldn’t reach up to fix it and just had to keep talking. Never again! Also remember that wig grips wear out and need replacing. This was another incident where my wig slid back while at work. I knew it was wearing out and just lazy about replacing it. 🫤 Thanks for the tips! ❤ Now I know why my synthetic didn’t survive the day very well n high heat 😢

Wig grips have made it so much better for me. Years ago when I tried to wear wigs, they scratched me around my temples. The wig grip has helped me.

I find wearing a bamboo cap under my wig grip and wig reduces itching, reduces sweating in the summer and keeps my head warmer in the winter. 😊

I made the mistake of buying RW shaded biscuit & they are just too dark in the root for me. I also have a couple that have just too much hair for me, 1 is RW Nice Move. Do you have a video of how to properly thin the hair out? I would be grateful to see this done correctly before I take the thinning scissors to it. Scared of ruining it! Thank you for this video. I am one of those ones that does not wear a wig grip. What works for me is gluing the wig down around the front hairline and using the comb in the back to anchor the wig down in the back. I leave 1/4 " extra lace and I glue only on the skin. Saving my hairline from glue. I use only water-soluble glue layering it before applying wig and melting it into the skin. Head shaped like a cone.

Wig wearer here for a little over 20 years . . . So many advances in the last two decades. As to wig grips, the one that works best for me looks like the Milano (which I have, but can't use), e.g., velvet lined, but NOT with the velcro -- it has to have the bra-like adjuster in the back. Otherwise, the ones that are thick all around, with the velcro adjusters, have zero gripping effect and just slip off my head. I know lots of other wig wearers who experience the same thing with the velvet, velcro adjustable wig grips. There's something for everyone these days. Thank you for your video.

They gave me a horrible headache. I also hated the traditional wig cap. It too was always slipping and felt hot under the wig. So I'm loving these wig grips, Madison Headwear, No Slip. Sometimes, too, if I have a wig that runs a little big on me (I have a petite head 20.5") and I've adjusted the straps in the back and it's still loose, I will lightly spray Got2bglued on my hairline, wait a few seconds so it gets tacky, then apply the wig. It's an added security. Love your content !

I had no idea about wearing heat friendly wigs in the summer heat rather than non heat friendly. I always wondered why my first wig last year went bad so fast. It was a non heat friendly wig and looked pretty bad after 1 month!
I was most surprised about wearing synthetic wigs in the summer heat. I don’t own any heat friendly wigs.

It’s totally normal to feel like it’s too dense at first, but thinning it out will really make a difference! If your hairdresser isn't too experienced with wigs, I recommend just having her use thinning shears. They’re easier to control and will help reduce density without compromising the structure of the wig.

Definitely, not wearing a regular synthetic in full sun or near heat, great point. I love Milano wig grips. I have bought others, but those are my best, and just the plain ones -- no lace on them. I have one and can never get it to work properly. I use concealer powder on the parting -- haven't done it at the hairline yet. I do have dark biohair so, daubing that part line is critical. I have been lazy about tweezing but I am going to revisit all my wigs to see if any could use some plucking. I wear human hair wigs now, so it is scary to do anything to them, since they are so expensive, but I think it is a good idea. I get 120% density only now -- learned that after years of buying wigs. I use a Renau comb and a looper brush, which are very gentle on any wig, synthetic or human. I have boar bristle brushes for my biohair and have never used one on a HH wig -- I might try it. I am new to the wig gig and must admit I have no clue on washing frequency. If I wash too often I am afraid to prematurely damage the wig.
When do you know it is time to give a good wash and refresh to a wig?

On combing, it may seem silly, but I like to tackle knots with finger combing instead of comb (be it fine or wide tooth): as soon as I feel a knot I delicately loosen it with my fingers and I feel that with this technique I have less fibers breakage/pulling.

For synthetic wigs, I generally wash them every 8-12 wears, but this can vary based on factors like weather, how much product I use, or how sweaty the wig gets. If the fibers are super stiff and sticking together like crazy, and there's so many tangles, or there's noticeable buildup, that’s usually my cue for a wash. For heat-friendly (HF) wigs specifically, I do tend to wash them before refreshing with heat, as it helps remove any buildup that could interfere with the styling process and ensures the fibers are in their best condition for heat application.
As for my routine rhythm, I aim for a refresh every few weeks if I wear the wig often. That refresh can be as simple as using a clothing steamer or applying low heat to smooth out the fibers, especially at the ends where tangling occurs most.
And your method of finger combing is not silly at all-it’s actually a great technique! It’s gentle on the fibers and helps prevent unnecessary breakage or shedding. I do the same when I notice small tangles forming. Finger combing with a detangler spray can make the process even easier and keep your wig in great shape for longer.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out! 😊 If you don’t have much of an occipital bone, that can definitely make it harder for wigs to stay in place.
I’d recommend trying a few things:
Double-Sided Tape: Some people find success with wig tape, especially along the hairline or at the nape. It adds extra security, especially if you’re having issues with wig grips.
Adjustable Bands: If your wig has an adjustable band, make sure it’s tightened enough at the nape of the neck. This can help keep the wig from riding up. And on the contrary, if the wig is done up too tight, this can also cause it to ride up! Strike the balance here because I've seen this go both ways!
Silicone Wig Grip: If traditional wig grips aren’t working, you could try one with a silicone strip, which has more of a tacky feel that can provide extra hold.

I have the same issue. If you have Bio hair, what works for me is to put your bio hair into 2 pigtails and then pin them back and overlapping at the nape of your neck. Think upside down milkmaid braids! 😅
Then put your wig grip on, making sure the grip is under the pigtails at the nape of the neck. I also pull my wig adjustable band under the pigtails. This technique makes a "false occipital bone".LOL My head is nearly flat in the back. It's crazy!! Hope this helps 🙏🏻

I’m a brain tumor survivor and have a sensitive spot by one of my ears. The Milano top grip works perfect for me. The others give me a headache, but there are grips for everyone.

When I applied concealer or foundation to lace, it just looked awful- no matter how many tutorials I watched.
So, being an artist, I mix fabric paint to my skin tone and apply to the lace.
I think it looks better, I hope it does!
That's wonderful you've found that trick! =) I feel the same way, which is why I always use eyeshadow and then dust it off the hair (if I miss lol)!! Foundation I find looks chunky, but I know that some people like to use it, so I mentioned it :)

Great question! I’ve had a similar one before! 😊 Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend adding highlights to a heat-friendly synthetic wig. Synthetic fibers don’t react to color processes like human hair does, and without experience, it can be tempting to try but might not yield the results you’re hoping for. Plus, you never know what processes the fiber has already gone through to achieve its current color, and without knowing that, it’s hard to predict how it will react to further coloring. It could end up damaging the fibers or not taking color at all.

Great tips just remember a boar hair brush can’t help with oil unless it’s added. There are no natural oils anymore
@@MichellePage-t6i Yes, absolutely! :) I also use the bore brush on my own bio hair and because I’ve had it for years, it has my own oils sitting in the brush already at this point, so when I use it to brush through my human hair wigs, my oils are dispersed. But totally, if it’s a brand new bore brush, and you’re only using it on a wig, then yes, you must add oils

I don't need a wig grip. I have a big head n they always stay on just fine, by themselves. A new wig is always a bit small on my head until it stretches out. Estetica fits me best. ❤ and i only buy wigs that do not have a lace front. I don't need a lace front either. ❤

I have a very flat head so I can’t wear a wig grip because they slide off. If anyone has a recommendation please comment. Also find many wigs have excess bunching in the back because my head shape doesn’t fill it out in the back.

I still stand by what I say though. You can walk into any good salon, and sit in any stylists chair (make sure you’ve looked into their work prior- because cutting hair is a learnt skill) and as long as you’re wearing your wig on your head in the same spot you will continue to wear your wig, a good stylist can cut it. Wearing a wig is the same as wearing your own head of hair. The outcome of the cut will come down to who you’ve chosen to see and their experience with cutting hair.
I like 100 density wigs. They are so hard to find. Even 120 is alot of hair for me. It looks like I have to much hair on top of my head. Uggh. I use thinning sheers on them. Wish there was more 100 density wigs. I love boar brushes.❤

Milano is the only brand I’ve ever had that stays on my head and keeps my wig on.
One day I forgot a Zoom meeting and just plopped a wig on my head with no grip. I had to speak at the meeting and watched my monitor in horror as my wig slid backwards on my head 🙀I couldn’t reach up to fix it and just had to keep talking. Never again!
Also remember that wig grips wear out and need replacing. This was another incident where my wig slid back while at work. I knew it was wearing out and just lazy about replacing it. 🫤

Wig grips have made it so much better for me. Years ago when I tried to wear wigs, they scratched me around my temples. The wig grip has helped me.
