I could listen to David Hayter narrate a whole documentary all by himself, and in fact I think I need that in my life.
Hayter*
@@vladv5126 lmao, didn't notice autocorrect did me dirty, thanks
gotta be AI but I still agree
He'd be an amazing nature documentary narrator, like Planet Earth.
@@Omahamaho No it's not
David Hayter will always be the real Solid Snake.
His name is in the title and you still typed it wrong lol
@@annarenfold438 😂
When was he not Solid Snake?
Right? Oscar Issac is a great actor, but he's no Solid Snake.
NO! THAT IS NOT SOLID SNAKE!!
If you know. You know.
There's something special about David Hayter reading lost documents.
it's like listening to an old friend
That guy... Always keeps you waiting
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Never meet your heroes.
Okay I kinda love the revolver detail though. Looking at it from the perspective that young Ocelot would twirl his revolvers for a comically long time, while with age he learned to tone down his need to make a spectacle of showing off his revolvers
Revolverrrr
“Let me show you why they call me revolver…”
**runs in a circle**
That heath regeneration animation tidbit was really interesting! I always throught he was rubbing his hand down his face, maybe wiping off the sweat, or trying to steel himself for more work ahead, sort of like "oh man, that was tough, but my job isn't finished yet. I gotta keep going." And that brief moment of respite gave him the strength to go on.
My friends and I used to joke that he was rewarding himself with "Snake Treats" for a job well done 😂
Yeah, Snake's eating a ration. Nishimura said she made a mistake after posting that sketch.
I just always assumed he was eating a ration.
I always saw it as him eating a ration or something like that. Then when it showed up here before they revealed it I guessed it was him clenching his fist, but they really shouldn't have put his fist right in front of his mouth like that since that's probably where most of the confusion comes from.
Or some reason I thought he was taking a drag of a cigarette before moving out, but they just left out the asset
imagine a "new Super Mario Bros details - ft. Charles Martinet"
That would be insane
I wouldn't watch it cause he sounds awful
I met him in Vancouver a couple months ago along with Hayter, he was really nice.
It would be funny if he sounded like Paarthunax instead of Mario lol
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes!
David Hayter is such a boss.
Ayyoooo
A Big Boss even ;)
a big boss..kinda
He is, in fact, Big Boss!
BOSS?!
David “PA to Head Writer on X-Men” Hayter is legend
0:10 Oh so THAT’S why he’s the Diaper Chief! He didn’t have enough TP!
Snake. Have you ever heard of the Diaper Chief?
Oh God, it is slowly becoming canon
I hoped someone said this
nOOOOO
The enemy of the Diaper Chief... the TP Guard
Metal Gear..... David you are SNAKE, the man, the myth, the legend 🐍😎
Getting to hear Snake say "quiet quitting!" was the highlight of my day. Wonderful job as always, Hayter
7:01 huh. I always thought he was eating a ration or something but they couldn't animate the item in his hand. It totally looks like he's shoving something invisible into his face and then his health goes up.
Yeah, that's what happening. That drawing was a result of someone trying to prove me wrong and Nihsimura forgetting the purpose of the animation. After I pointed out that Snake's hand clips through his face and the ration noise plays repeatedly, she changed her mind.
Me too
I always saw it as he was sniffing some smelling salts, bringing his focus back to full, and therefore his health.
Back in 2017, I sent David Hayter some fan mail.
He sent me back a super nice letter with his autograph. It wasn't a template, he talked about what I wrote in detail and it was great!!
Super nice guy!!
Oh, what did you tell him? :D
He replyed me on Tweeter. Can't agree more. He deserves more love and praise.
Kept ya waiting huh

@neringalukoseviciute1787 Now here's something worthy of praise!
Solid Snake being the narrator is something I never thought I'd see
It’s happened twice lol
"First time?"
I don't think the unemployment check is cutting it 😂 (sidenote, I wish he comes back for MG Delta 😢)

Go back and watch the previous Metal Gear videos :)
Still learning things about this game 25 years later. The 7th shell Vulcan Raven bit I'd never heard before 4:47
I discovered it but didn't know then that it was a secret..was just like huh?..,that's not the usual vid..😅
Things I never knew I wanted: hearing David Hayter say "nuthuts".
Great work as always DYKG! A couple of things here were truly fascinating as a lifelong MGS fan.
Hey, it's Max! :)
But does David know where the sphincter is?
Well I want to hear him talk about the Diaper Chief.
"That TP Guard Tidbit" might be my new favourite David Hayter lines
2:49 "Quiet Quitting" - so perfect
Can't believe they got Guyver to narrate
THE GUY FROM GUYVER… 🤩
A true Dark Hero.
"Most fans probably never even noticed [the forklift] was there."
Where else was I supposed to hide while I waited for the elevator?! I probably know that forklift better than any other location!!!
MGS1 is the most aesthetically good looking and sounding PS1 games ever
Eeeeaaaasily
Great facts and loved being it narrated by David.
Thanks DYKG!
The wolves peeing on the box is in the American strategy guides. I also remember on GameFAQs people insisting each other to use the trick for Hard and Extreme difficulty modes.
I love that there are still things about this game that I didn't know, even almost 30 years later.
Also, amazing that David Hayter is the one narrating this!
One time I accidentally left my PS1 powered on before I went to bed and then to school the next day (age 13). I returned home to find I left Snake in a ventilation shaft for 16 hours.
I felt actual remorse and shame as if I did this to a real person. I told Snake I was sorry. This is now a 26 year old memory.
Kept him waiting, huh?
The way Hayter is saying some of these lines has me rolling
David Hayter you are a worldwide treasure and a legend, thank you for your passion.
You're pretty good
Pretty dope video. I'm also glad there was a spoiler warning at 14:00 regarding Policenauts. I just started playing the English-patched rom of this yesterday, so kudos for the heads-up. Much appreciated! 👌🏿
Happy to hear Hayter back for another MGS DYKG video :)
7:22 That Twitter sketch by itself isn't the full story. A couple days before that, somebody made a thread saying that whenever Snake defeats a boss, he pumps his fist in celebration because he's excited that he just killed somebody. No, really. That's what they were arguing. I pointed out how ridiculous that was because you can see Snake's hand clipping through his model as he mashes it into his face. And the ration noise plays repeatedly while his health bar extends, so he's clearly eating rations to recover his health.
In reponse to that, someone else used Google translate to ask Nishimura for clarification and they posted that sketch. Then that person tagged me in another thread with that sketch to try and rub it in my face (much like Snake does with the ration). So I went to Nishimura and pointed out the face thing and the ration noise, because hell if I was gonna lose an argument on Twitter. They replied and said, "Oh, if you can hear a chewing noise, then yeah, Snake's eating a ration." In other words, Nishimura had simply forgotten the work she had done 23 years prior, and after a couple decades of working on all kinds of different projects, that's completely understandable.
Really confused why DidYouKnowGaming would leave out that much-needed context - and get it completely wrong in the process - but it's all good. Setting the Metal Gear record straight is what I do.
The rations argument makes no sense. It's not the same sound effect and you can't hear chewing, and he does it regardless of how many rations you're carrying.
@@DefinitiveDubs It's the exact same sound effect, just repeated. What are you talking about?
@@DefinitiveDubs It's a cute anime-style chewing noise. And even if you don't have any rations, Snake's health still needs to increase after the battle. Eating to regain health makes a lot more sense than balling your fist tightly.
@@circlestrafe128It's literally not. At best, it's the same sound but slowed down, at a lower pitch that never rises, and without reverb.
@@DefinitiveDubs You know what? You might be right. Regardless, Snake rubs his open palm over his face, to the point where you can see his arm pass through his body after the fight with the Ninja. Anyone who actually looks at the animation and still says he's making a fist is extremely unobservant.
this also makes sense for Ocelot's character though! When he was the leader of the ocelot unit, he was a lot more cocky and reckless (which naked snake reprimands him for), and the needlessly long gun twirling is a great way of implying that
It's so heartbreaking that MGS is dead. I grew up with MGS1 and it was my only good/big memory with my brother that I've ever had.
MGS as a story? It's finished, no need to add more to it. As the franchise? A remake is in development. As the games? You can still play them, it will never die as long as people still plays and remember them
It is, but the writing was getting worse and worse; the last game is unfinished (don't @ me it is I don't care if you think it's iNtEnTiOnAl), Kojima wants to work on different things* (and who could blame him after many decades of MGS?) and he bizarrely didn't like Hayter for some reason.
*Well, he wants to make movies and rub elbows with Hollywood actors/directors. And hey, now he is!
@@lexp6099It definitely wasn't intentional. We were supposed to go and fight Eli one last time. It's revealed in the collectors edition
That guy... is always keeping you waiting, huh?
10:14 :Funiculars have a pair of counter-balanced carriages while this thing has a single platform.
Funny the same chime with darpa chief seen early is used in MGS2 with the President
I’m so glad there’s more videos of my favorite series ever
Amazing vid guys!!
Immediately shared this video with multiple MGS fan friends. Thanks for making excellent content!!😊
Oh David. You know its a party when you seaweed.
Holy shit.... SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE
I'm always hearing "diaper chief"
This is how much Vinny influenced my mind
Met David Hayter during a game festival in Chile. He was super nice and even recorded a video for a friend of mine. Another time when I applied for a job in the german film industry I had a chance to talk to him via Skype and recorded the conversation to show it to my future employer. I got the job thanks to Solid Snake. Absolute legend.
Hearing David was a treat.
And a dig to Kojima @8:29!? Nice.
lol it’s probably just a funny fact more than a dig
We have per bom in DS, so is just kojima
I grew up playing MGS 2 on PS2. I was in Middle School, and barely understood the complexity. I played about a year ago and realized, I still don't comprehend all of it. 😂
It's a video game kidgirl, there is no complexity
@@ramrodbldm9876 So a shadow government with secret factions and groups like foxconn or shadow Moses isn't complex for an 11 year old?
@@ramrodbldm9876
Is that even your own idea? Or just something someone else told you?
I can't wait to meet the legendary Solid Snake soon at a convention
This is wonderful! Thanks for getting David to narrate. He's the greatest!
7:20 I always thought it was Snake running his hand over his face showing his weariness from stress during the mission.
i loved the gun spinning in mgs 3. Glad they played around with that.
The Mei Ling funny faces are cute.
Hayter's the man! Love that he joins in on these videos great work as always DYKG
The work you guys do is amazing, treating these games like theyre art deserving of being documented, because they are.
Admirable perseverance and modesty make your channel truly special. Congratulations.
Can't believe they got David Hayter himself to narrate this.
I think it's an AI
@@taylortait1 looking at how David Hayter retweeted the video, big chance it's actually him.
I always assumed that the health regeneration animation Snake does with his hand was meant to be him eating a ration or something. Kinda similar in a way to that animation in Silent Hill 3 when Heather takes the Aglaophotis pearl but you can never actually see the pearl in her hand.
You assumed correctly. This video's mistaken.
David hayter saying Resident Evil 2..... My life is now complete. 👍
I always thought Snake was eating a Ration when his LIFE grew after boss battles because his fist is close to his face. Now that it's mentioned I wonder if the VR Missions goal post animations were going to be used for this animation too until they scrapped it.
The sound of waves detail is insane. Holy smokes.
That forklift in the dock area is what I always hid behind to wait for the elevator
the parachute thing blew me away. i been replaying mgs on and off for over 20 years and ive never knew about that
It just feels so appropriate having Snake declassifying top-secret documents for the general public
I played the original Metal Gear Solid only a few years ago (it was my first mgs game) and it became one of my favourite games of all time. Such a timeless classic. I just love this game and learning more about it
The Codec static being the game's code pasted as an image is a clever trick that was also used in the Metroid Prime games with the visor
Got damn, this is really cool and interesting! Thank you, Mr. Hayter, and everyone else involved!
I honestly always thought Snake's post-boss animation was him eating a ration.
Hearing Snake say "QUIET QUITTING" was something else, my younger self and current day me felt struck by almost something spiritual right there.
11:49 I remember when I played MGS on extreme hard difficulty back in the day; the fight with Liquid was insanely hard. There was no room for errors-one little mistake, and you pretty much had to start the fight all over again. It was THE most frustrating experience I've ever had in any MGS game, but I finally managed to beat Liquid after so many retries and finish the game. Now, almost a quarter of a century later, I struggle even with the normal difficulty level. Oh, how times change. But this was a nice video, narration by David Hayter is really cool.
I always assumed that the 'hug the wall to see the DARPA chief/Octacon' was just something you're supposed to find as part the main path of the game. At this point you've been taught to hug walls like crazy. I found this the very first time I entered the room. Feels odd that it's supposed to be an Easter egg.
Thanks Dave!! You’ll always be the GOAT!!
Feels like it has been ages since I've watched one of these...because it has.
I'm so happy David is back!
After each battle I always thought it was just snake eating a ration.
Apparently that is indeed the case and there was some miscommunication leading to a mistake
13:08 This idea was put into Twin Snakes, where Otacon slips and tumbles down the slope. Man, the more we learn about Kojima it seems like Metal Gear was legendary in spite of him, not because of him.
I always thought the bit with the cyber ninja was so cool!
the atmosphere with that creepy mumbling, so freakin' cool, I think that whole bit would translate to film really well..
I was lucky enough to meet David Hayter at Comic Con last year. Such a great guy who will do anything for his fans.
I am heartbroken that we were robbed of additional Ocelot gun spinning.
2:13 That ultrapolished detail, amazing and rare still to this day
There's a deep mening with dark and flight in MGS. When Snake enter the base, it's night. When he leaves, it's day. It's a typical storytelling that struggle is alwaya dark and releath is day.
This whole video makes me feel so bad for the animator. You did great lady!!!
I always thought the animation when your life increases was supposed to be Snake eating a ration. Great video!
I think Ocelot twirling his guns longer in MGS3 suited better because he was young. He's still cocky as an older man but does everything with more purpose.
We live in a world where Kojima gets to have all the pee and poop-jokes he want, but not a moment where Otacon gets to be a delightful nerd about snowmobiles. Truly, the darkest timeline.
Though Revolver being less ostenatious about his thwirling as an older man than he was as a little kitten is one of those funny moments where circumstantial events create a form of character development. He learned not to be THAT much of a show-off! Good for him.
Am glad Hayter was in this video n glad DYKG is still around. Some of these secrets or EE I found out thx to my older brother.

Kept me waiting, huh?
I wonder how many of these made it to Twin Snakes. I love that game, and I know I've seen at least a couple of these in the original release with my own eyes.
Only a couple of these were new to me as I have religiously played MGS1 since even before its release as I had the demo from PlayStation Magazine. It does amaze me that I still learn new details from these types of videos.
David Hayter narrating MGS videos is top tier.
He’s back
This’s so AMAZING hearing the one, the only, the LEGEND David Hayter, Solid Snake himself give facts about Metal Gear Solid, it’s an AMAZING moment in itself! 😌😁 Thank you David Hayter!👏🏻🔥❤️
I'm still learning things about this game to this day. Amazing.
Hearing Hayter say "bog roll" is a treat.
I cannot believe I'm still learning new things from this game
FROM SNAKE HIMSELF NO LESS
Snake regenerates by clenching his fist?
I always thought he was eating a ration.
Lots of interesting info! And all narrated by THE SNAKE!? Two thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼
I mean, the electrocution animation is way funnier with the box
Watching videos like thia brings back sooo many memories from my childhood. MGS was the first ps1 game i beat and i was only like 7 or 8 years old and i felt so proud of myself haha i beat it and got both endings and the stealth camo and bandanna and its crazy to think of 7 year old me watching all the codecs and hearing this complicated story. After this game i was hooked and mgs is my favorite gaming series of all time. Im rly excited for the Snake Eater remake! They keep me waiting
That forklift was my primary hiding spot while waiting on the elevator 😂
Love David for doing these, my goat
Snake saying “quiet quitting” is hilarious to me
7:26
I always thought Snake was taking a super-Ration that added to his health. There goes my 26 year head-canon out the window.
Seeing the DARPA chief over the wall was known outside of Japan. I knew about it from some magazine or cheat book.
So was the one with Otacon.
Mei Ling getting mad if you repeatedly call but don't save was also known.
0:49 "Some have never been heard before, except by Japanese fans." The video says it's gonna highlight the 40 most interesting codecs, some of them not previously known outside Japan. It doesn't say none of them were known.
David Hayter makes everything he narrates wprth listening to. If he uploaded clips of him reciting numbers from a phonebook, it would still be entertaining
Having this presented by Hayter is a treat. Thank you.
