Here is another one. During the Psycho Mantis figth, most people change the port, but you can beat him attacking him 8 times, he dodges every attack but the 8th attack will ALWAYS hit, Punches and Guns only.
Also there's a way to explode the statues on either side of the room that have gas masks on them, which allows you to beat Psycho Mantis without having to change controller ports too. Although I think you need to purposely die first, to do it.
There's a bit in the elevator with the ravens before getting to Vulcan Raven. If you call Otacon, Snake will ask "Why are there crows here?" but if you call Miller (Liquid) first he will explain that these are ravens. Then when you call Otacon the dialog will change from crows to ravens.
So I just found this out tonight on the psycho mantis boss aside from changing your controller port 1 to port 2 you can also use your thermal goggles so he can’t hide from you when he disappears like it never occurred to me to try this

One of my most dumbest moments, playing mgs and trying to find meryls codec frequency. All your told its on the back of the CD case!! I spent hours trying to find a CD case in the game and just when I was about to give up I saw the game case on my bedroom floor and noticed snake and meryl having a codec conversation on the back of it.....well done Kojima, well done!
Integral's 140.66 frequency plays sweet MSX>PS1 tunes three of them for their respectful rooms. Having UniROM equipped has been a blessing to play it through around the region-lock
mgs 1 is probably my favorite game of all time, been playing it since i was like 12 years old. soo many playthroughs and never knew some of these details. thanks for the video!!!
Extra secret: if you follow Meryl to the ladies room, and get to her booth within three seconds, she will be in her underwear in the following cutscene
In the docs theirs weak spots in the wall were you use c4 to blow a hole in the wall theirs several secret rooms like this with trap floors you can find c4 Socom bullets for your gun and rations
I first played the game on a JamPacked demo disc from Wal-Mart when i was a kid. I found one particular secret that i haven't heard anyone discover yet, if you pick up the Socom, travel to the floor where the Darpa Cheif is located, and then go back to the truck where you found the pistol, the Nikita missile launcher would then be there. We had so much fun with this, the demo would end once you climbed out of the vent in the Darpa Chief's cell, so we'd have fun playing with the guards and discovering new things just within that small section of the game. Excellent video, such an excellent game to still find out new things this many years later. I had my daughter play the game for the first time, and she somehow missed the thermal goggles, so when the time came for her to have to dodge the lasers on the way out to the mine field i was truly stumped, because i always would use the thermal goggles, so i looked up the alternative way and discovered that you could see the lasers if you have snake smoke cigarettes, which I'm sure some players picked up, but was still fun to learn something new.
Agree, it's far easier to beat sniper wolf with Nikita than traditional PSG-1 method, too bad during the first encounter (where Meryl get hit) you can't use Nikita due to "radar jamming"
You can kill sniper wolf by shooting either the first or last mice which runs along the wall behind sniper wolf theirs three mice which run together along the wall
After all these years. I thought I knew about most of these interesting things. Everything in this video was a revelation except the wolf peeing on box trick and the 2 Endings. Thank you so much.
I played all the MGS games as they came out. Still have all the disks and working consoles to play them on. Considering if I should get the new collection, going to wait on the reviews!
I think I knew about the pissed cartboard but I'm not sure, maybe I'm mixing it with the handkerchief you get from Otakon that belonged to Sniper Wolf. If you have it the wolves don't attack you. I know I saw both the Otakon and Meryl ending but I don't remember Ocelot mentioning that the president is Solidus and he's the third one :/ Damn... I admit it, you won, I can't say for sure that I knew at least 1 of these and I thought I know a lot about this game.
The thing I found crazy was the different lines Psycho Mantis would say to you, depending on what games you had on your memory card, how often you saved and how many alerts you'd triggered. That felt really unique at the time and was a great addition IMO.
Solidus always sounded weird to me. I get they was trying to relate it to the states of matter solid, liquid n gas but I think they should have gone with the fourth state, introducing Plasma Snake 😅
Solidus is a term from materials engineering for metallic things like alloys, kinda in between solid and liquid. There’s also a liquidus state for that That said, I agree-always wondered why there wasn’t a plasma and solidus sounds weird in general
It hints at the "perfection" of each Snake. Liquid meaning he's inferior to Solid (even if it is a lie and backwards). While Solidus implies he is perfect and an exact copy of Big Boss. There is also a translation "error" let's say. It is not that one clone is superior, it is that one clone got the Dominant genes (Liquid) and the other one the Recesive genes (Solid). @@seventysschev
@@xmaverickhunterkx Liquid got the recessive genes and Solid got the dominant genes. Liquid just didn't know anything about genetics and assumed that recessive means genes that make you weak and dominant means genes that make you strong. it's tragic how simple middle school biology could have healed Liquid's daddy issues.
When entering the missle warehouse if you look directly down besides the missiles you can see the floor under the missle warehouse if you go to the corner at the bottom of the stairs you will see a air duct the air duct can be opened which leads you into the floor seen directly under the missle warehouse
MGS4 has a lot less details the MGS1 2 and 3. MGS2 being the most packed with optional content, so much that if you watch on Twitch Outerheaven do an in depth story playthrough (which they do quite often, atleast once a month of the entire MGS franchise with 2 people) an MGS2 playthrough can easily go to 20+ hours.
You forgot that you can use the Cardboard box to transport snake around the base by placing him the back of the truck and choosing a box that fits the destination you wanna go to. So for instance, if you are in the nuclear storage facility, you can travel back to the helipad by choosing box A(helipad) After a while a guard will come by and say: Is that really all there is to load? To the helipad then. And thus you will be able to short travel between 3 different places, Helipad, Nuclear storage Facility and the Snowfield.
Im surprised you didn't include Vulcan Raven criticising you for "killing his friends" if you kill any of the ravens on the elevator ride. Or Meryl's two underwear scenes.
I'm in my 5th or 6th playthrough and I this time Meryl was in her underwear when we meet up in the bathroom; I have no idea what I did differently this time. What triggers that scene?
@@ZenMonkeyGod it's dependent on how quickly you follow Meryl into the bathroom. If you're quick enough, as you were that time, she hasn't had time to fully change back into her normal clothes. But you have to be pretty quick behind her to trigger that scene.
Did you know when exiting the elevator to your left next to the security camera room there is a drive threw which leads to the floor under the missile storage room when you look from the left and right of the missiles on the floor you can see threw the floor also there is a second entrance to the floor there is a air vent at the bottom right corner under the stairway which you can crawl in and enter the floor beneath from the ceiling ?
Love the MGS series. A bit of lore, one reason why the DARPA chief Donald Andersen knew of Ocelot was because Mr. Anderson was Signet in MGS 3: Snake Eater. Also Dr. Clark was Para-Medic.
One thing I always wanted in MGS was after Vulcan Raven tells Snake that the DARPA Chief Snake met was really Decoy Octopus, Konami should have had a CODAC transmission of Snake questioning wither or not to proceed with the mission as it's possible that REX was already shutdown due to Liquid not really having Donald's password. Of course "Miller" would be hounding Snake and telling him it was complete gibberish and to complete the mission. That would have been a nice addition.
@@AzurGamer81I agree, I feel like Snake is honestly kind of dense at times because I never feel like he fully gets the implications of the chief being a fake
If you go into the duck over 1000 times to view Meryl working out and beat the game in under 3 hours you get a secret mini game mode to play as Meryl helping Snake all all the way until you get sniped by wolf. Very fun.
After fighting psycho mantis when exit the room entering the mountain caves the near end of the first pathway walls has a weak spot to your left and to your right use c4 and find rations in the wall and socom pistol bullets
Thats how I met Meryl. I knew there was a chance at the pistol before this part but I never found it. Also, this was just a couple days ago. Still on my very first play thru
In the Japanese version of the game, if you haven't killed anyone or tranqed them during the whole game, except for bosses, you actually patch Sniper Wolf up and she survives her encounter. She still doesn't go for Otacon though.
What I find interesting, with the idea of these games being developed in a way that they don’t entirely have to be played how they were expected, there is no failure prompt for using weapons with in the nuclear storage facility, because once you’ve gotten the sniper rifle, which is the only weapon I think you can use in that situation, by actually forcing The player into a prone position, there is no like alternate cut scene even though you are warned not to use weapons during that segment, and you are stripped of the ability to do so. I get it something that the player would probably not think to do, but I still find it interesting that even though they give you ultimate cut scenes for such specific Scenarios, I find it funny that it’s lacking one for that specific one
I played more than the average kid growing up so I'm sorry to say I knew most of these. It's an old game so it's tough to find unknown facts at this point but a solid effort.
Ocelot will also mke a comment at beginning of torture scene when you press r2 or l2 about you not having your items. It os also interesting that the camera will lwaus change when you kneel next to a body. Yhere are lots of cool camera angles that kojima put in, it is interesting to find them all or the cool ones.
I think the reason behind ocelot screaming differently is the shock effect. In a fight against a snake who has died multiple times, he is just just playing around. In a fight against the REAL Solid Snake, he is more alert, checking his surroundings, quickening breathe, jittering movements, and the sudden surprise of his hand being lost snaps him out of this state and he meekly cries out "My hand..."
I've probably beaten this game 20 times with a mix of endings , but for the live of me didn't remember there being anything about solidus in the ending. Weird
The SOCOM-less scene feels like the more "intended" one. Like they expect players to not have a gun and the dialogue is built around it. He sounds like he's talking her down (while also belittling her a little), which he doesn't need to do if he has a pistol trained on her. He could be more aggressive if he wanted to, even mildly, but he still talks like he has a gun trained on him by someone he can't just pull the trigger on. And also he tells her to stop thinking and shoot, but he isn't shooting either.
There's another secret about avoiding wolves without a box. Carry Sniper Wolf's personal handkerchief and the wolves will leave you be since it carries her scent.
These old games are works of art. 90s were some of the best period in huma history.

Crazy I remember playing this with my dad when I was a kid. I never knew about these secrets
@@duffman18 they tell you this if you die to Mantis and still don't change ports.
So I just found this out tonight on the psycho mantis boss aside from changing your controller port 1 to port 2 you can also use your thermal goggles so he can’t hide from you when he disappears like it never occurred to me to try this
After a Good Ending playthrough, put on the bandana, equip the FA-MAS, and go all Stallone on Mantis's ass.
Speaking of which, if you wait until one of the last three rounds in the FA-MAS magazine, then equip the bandana, it will fire unlimited tracer rounds.
@@MKDumas1981Wtf are tracer rounds? I noticed the 3 bullets at the end of the mag but never knew what it was for. I'm doing my first play through ever btw
I also used the thermals for the ninja fight
Tracer rounds are when you can actually see your bullet come out of the barrel. Usually it pops out every few shots to guide where your bullets are going. If you do this guys trick, every shot will be visible, and look like a laser gun famas@rubenrodriguez3252
Always did the dog piss on the box trick hahaha beat this game a million times as a kid!

You don't need to use the pissbox to get them to stop attacking you. Simply equip Sniper Wolf's hankerchief. Cos it smells of her. And so the wolves think you're her, because now _YOU_ smell of her, and so they don't attack you at all. That's why you get that item in the first place.
@@duffman18 you can only do that after you get the handkerchief:)
Every MGS game has tons of secrets, until someone discover something new. I thought I saw everything from MGS1, but I was wrong. I only knew about #1, #4, #5, #6, #8 and #10. So thank you for sharing, you earned my sub.
I appreciate that despite how old these games are, you still put a spoiler warning. I've played this game millions of times but there's lots of new players thanks to the collection. Awesome video btw, I didn't know some of these
One of my most dumbest moments, playing mgs and trying to find meryls codec frequency. All your told its on the back of the CD case!! I spent hours trying to find a CD case in the game and just when I was about to give up I saw the game case on my bedroom floor and noticed snake and meryl having a codec conversation on the back of it.....well done Kojima, well done!
I clicked on this expecting nothing new but you just showed me all kinds of things i missed! Awesome video, thank you :)
I never seen the parachute scene until about my 100th playthrough years after the games release
MGS1 is one of my most favorite games ever!
One of the videos where I've spent more time in the comments than actually watching, great stuff!
I used to play MGS 1 all the time, but the parachute thing i only discovered after finishing MGS 4.

mgs 1 is probably my favorite game of all time, been playing it since i was like 12 years old. soo many playthroughs and never knew some of these details. thanks for the video!!!
Extra secret: if you follow Meryl to the ladies room, and get to her booth within three seconds, she will be in her underwear in the following cutscene
I already did that 2 years ago. If nobody asked me I really don't mind I'm just saying
I'll admit, didn't know a couple of these. Amazing how much detail there was to these games.
In the docs theirs weak spots in the wall were you use c4 to blow a hole in the wall theirs several secret rooms like this with trap floors you can find c4 Socom bullets for your gun and rations
I can't believe I never learned about that parachute or heard that dialog
When you finish all the vr missions from the VR musings disc, you will see a diagram of metal gear ray
After all this time this is the first time I found out about the parachute. Wow. This game had SO much packed into it.
You can actually see Meryl after Decoy Octopus died in the cell before the next cutscene if you carefully peek out the door
I had my daughter play the game for the first time, and she somehow missed the thermal goggles, so when the time came for her to have to dodge the lasers on the way out to the mine field i was truly stumped, because i always would use the thermal goggles, so i looked up the alternative way and discovered that you could see the lasers if you have snake smoke cigarettes, which I'm sure some players picked up, but was still fun to learn something new.
i already knew everything in the video, but it was really entertaing nontheless! thanks for the nive and professional video bro!
That's crazy I really thought the thumbnail was all clickbait but Meryl in sneaking suit is legit
very cool mate, great video. I'm half way through the game again right now so good timing :)
I know I saw both the Otakon and Meryl ending but I don't remember Ocelot mentioning that the president is Solidus and he's the third one :/
Damn...
You like Castlevania, don't you?
Sooo you play Suikoden!
I’ve been playing this game since 1998 and didn’t know some of those. Amazing video mate!
Solidus always sounded weird to me. I get they was trying to relate it to the states of matter solid, liquid n gas but I think they should have gone with the fourth state, introducing Plasma Snake 😅
I think Gaseous Snake would sound so stupid, probably why they went with Solidus lmao
Solidus is a term from materials engineering for metallic things like alloys, kinda in between solid and liquid. There’s also a liquidus state for that
That said, I agree-always wondered why there wasn’t a plasma and solidus sounds weird in general
Poop Snake (solid).
Pee Snake (liquid)
Fart Snake (gas).
Than we could be introduced to Plasma Snake.
How do you open that duct? I had no idea you could actually go down there
that's not in the OG PS1 version, maybe the Twin Shits version, but not the OG.
I know that MGS 3 and 4 had a lot of little details, but I had no idea this game did as well.
And you’ll be able to see metal gear ray designs after beating the vr missions
Amazing video, thank you for making me relive my childhood. :) Love from Portugal
You forgot that you can use the Cardboard box to transport snake around the base by placing him the back of the truck and choosing a box that fits the destination you wanna go to.
So for instance, if you are in the nuclear storage facility, you can travel back to the helipad by choosing box A(helipad)
After a while a guard will come by and say: Is that really all there is to load? To the helipad then.
And thus you will be able to short travel between 3 different places, Helipad, Nuclear storage Facility and the Snowfield.
Not even remotely obscure trivia
Can't travel _from_ the snowfield, though, as there are no guards walking around.

It's clever for them to hide secrets that require the player to lose in order to find them.
Love the MGS series.
A bit of lore, one reason why the DARPA chief Donald Andersen knew of Ocelot was because Mr. Anderson was Signet in MGS 3: Snake Eater. Also Dr. Clark was Para-Medic.
They also refer to dr Clark as a man in mgs1 despite being a woman in mgs3
One thing I always wanted in MGS was after Vulcan Raven tells Snake that the DARPA Chief Snake met was really Decoy Octopus, Konami should have had a CODAC transmission of Snake questioning wither or not to proceed with the mission as it's possible that REX was already shutdown due to Liquid not really having Donald's password. Of course "Miller" would be hounding Snake and telling him it was complete gibberish and to complete the mission. That would have been a nice addition.

I remember using that tip with the cardboard box and wolf pee back in the day
I played more than the average kid growing up so I'm sorry to say I knew most of these. It's an old game so it's tough to find unknown facts at this point but a solid effort.
Solid effort, nice.
Liquid effort
Solidus effort.
I didn't take that long getting to the elevator, and still got that dialogue.
Right after the scene without the socom pistol. Snake automatically rolls and picks one up automatically.
Now I want to replay metal gear solid 1&2 after watching this video my brotha there were a few facts I knew and a few I didn't know
You forgot the part When Laying on the torture table when you move Ocelot tells you your strapped down and can’t escape
Weird
I got number 3 on my first playthrough and thought it was the normal one until now
Just before facing Psycho Mantis, Meryl rushes into the bathroom. Follow her as she runs. She won't have had time to get fully dressed.
Yes I agree.
25 years?? I played this when it first came out. I was 24 That means I’m…f’n old.
There's another secret about avoiding wolves without a box. Carry Sniper Wolf's personal handkerchief and the wolves will leave you be since it carries her scent.
