  • I love you, so I thought I'd share something special. Sit back, turn up the volume and enjoy the soothing sounds of my 1911 Chandler and Price printing press, Louise, doing her thing. No ads, no sped-up video, no harsh noises.
Get your print here - www.dpmakestuff.com/printshop
This technique is called overprinting. Mix two colours to get a third.

I took a graphic arts class in high school in the late 80's where I got to learn to run a Heidelberg windmill letterpress and made business cards for myself and friends. This took me to trade school where I started running an AB Dick offset press, to a 6 color Komori and eventually worked my way into a 8 color 40" Heidelberg. I worked in the sheetfed printing industry for almost 25 years, and can still smell (and taste) the press wash if I think about it hard enough.

There's something to be said about the beauty of the "old ways" of making a product as simple as a poster versus the high-speed, high-output processes of today. Not to say that the old ways are better, but one cannot argue with the beauty of something as simple as a printing press from the early 20th century doing what it does.

As demand grows they gotta keep up with it. But who knows not many people really read the newspaper, maybe they'll go back to the old ways for the few people who read them.

Wow, Thank you. my Dad was the Linotype operator at out small hometown newspaper from 1952 until 1981. When my brother turned 6 he was able to load the paper into the C&P making flyers for the local PTA and Boy Scouts. When I turned 6, the honor was passed onto me. I'm now 67 and the sound, the feel the soothing motion is all brought back in a wonderfully restored machine. Thank you, my father would be proud of your work. Now that honor is mine to tell you.

Brings back memories!!! One of my classes in printing. Worked more than 25 years in the prepress. I was mainly a stripper. (not the kind most people thank of LOL). When they started moving to computers I went into management. Did a lot with computers. Now all the prepress is done on computers. I have been retired a lot of years now.

I nearly convinced myself this was my old Arab Printing Press. I sold it in 2014 and I guess I kind of miss it. Lost count of the number of near misses I had with it, and ended up in A&E with a flat finger once. 🤣
