I’ve had type 2 diabetes for 8 years now, when I was first diagnosed my A1C was 10 and I weighed 148 am 5,3! My doctor also prescribed metformin 500mg twice a day, on my 3 month checkup my A1C was 5.9 and I weighed 122 pounds only on metformin and eating right! 8 years later my A1C went up a little to 6.2 but my weight stayed pretty much the same well 125. You have to watch what you eat, the cards and sugars are your enemies well if you consume a lot of it. You can eat whatever you want in MODERATION that is the key here and also don’t consume too much food in one meal keep it light and wait at least 3 hours to have a snack and by snack I mean an apple strawberries any berries almonds without all that sugar or salt you get it and also read the labels on what you are drinking there is a lot of sugar and cards in just your drink alone, so between your meal drink appetizer etc you probably just went wayyyy over your calorie and carb and sugar count for the day and now you can’t eat till tomorrow again Lol anyway the fasting will do you good. You will be surprised at how you look and feel when you take most of the sugars carbs and calories out of your meals. eat lots of whole grains FIBER it keeps you regular veggies and fruits, nuts and protein and you will feel better. I wish you guys all the best and keep a good attitude about this disease and learn to manage it bc if you don’t learn to control this disease it will control you, and that’s when all your problems begin! Sorry this was soo long!!!
I agree. Diabetic doesn’t mean disabled. You can still eat food that you like even with diabetes. It just needs some care and attention. I really appreciate you commenting and sharing your experience. Thanks, Liz! Here's a secret to a Diabetic Diet: th-cam.com/video/kQs9jx21F6Y/w-d-xo.html
It's good you follow a diet plan - don't eat this, don't eat that. But that can be very tedious to follow in real life situations. I was told by a lady the #1 thing to always remember, is to after you have a meal about 30 minutes, take a good walk or become physically active for 30 minutes. Break a sweat if you have to. And learn to do this after every meal. This simple practice will always keep you in the center from getting high or low sugar. The lady told me it is more effective than what you eat. Because not everyone can follow a food list. It is too difficult to maintain such a rigid program. So how she controls her diabetes, is being physically active after she eat. Simple Rule - Never sit down or lay down after you eat. That is a big NO NO. What are your thoughts?
I was diagnosed with diabetes April 11 after going into the hospital with a kidney stone..At the hospital, had a blood pressure of 220/115 and my blood sugar was at 390. My A1C level was 12.6. Was put on 500MG metformin twice day and 30 MG Pioglitizone once a day. I completely changed my diet. Have had ZERO negative side effects of Metformin. On August 1st (3 1/2 months later), my A1C was down to 5.6. I asked the doctor to take me off of Pioglitizone and I am currently testing this out now. I feel great and will get a new A1C update February of next year. In addition, I do the following EVERY DAY. I take a raw tblsp of extra virgin olive oil every morning, a tbsp of apple cider vinegar with water b4 every dinner and about 9 pm a cup of hibiscus tea with 1/2 tspn of cinnamon
I have taken Metformin for 23 years now. My weight went from 238 to 155 pounds and I have between a 5 and 6 A1C. In 63 and I am still not on insulin after 23 years.
I’m on 1000mg a day, lost some weight, had some loose bowel movements but nothing major. When i was diagnosed my sugar level was 19. That was a year ago, on my last checkup the doc said all my markers were close to normal again.
I'm 63 and the 63rd like, lol. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 2 days ago. I am on 500 mg of Metformin. I am praying I will lose weight, as I tried for the last 6 months doing Keto and counting calories. I lost 2 lbs and couldn't figure out why. This post gives me hope. Thank you, Julie.
I stopped metformin 8 months ago and started keto diet with taking all supplements required...I fixed my entire body within 3 months and now I'm a million times better than before..with no medicine...thanks for keto
I had bouts of diarrhea when I started taking metformin. My doctor advised i should keep to it, that my body will adjust to it. I did, and i got over the gastrointestinal issues. It's been working well for me. Its been eleven years now.
I know you commented a year ago but I’ve just been prescribed Metformin and am wondering how it has worked positively for you? I have slight insulin resistance and multiple symptoms of PCOS but overall quite healthy. I’m not so sure it’s the right thing for me
I take one a day. I have been doing it since I was 66 years of age. And I am now 77.. I really don't like to take any medicine, but my doctor said that we have to control your Type 2 diabetes. And that was the first time I knew that I have it
Went on a gluten-free keto diet lifestyle, and I brought my glucose down to 80-90. There are better choices than meds. Eliminating processed food, sugar, enriched flour based foods, rice, and grains are foods that raise glucose. Protein and high fiber diets helped me drop 50 pounds in 6 months.
I don't really watch the videos from this channel but I'm reading the comments section and I have been taking metformin since 2004, and I have never had any problems and I went from 356 pounds to 261 pounds as of last week
Metformin lowers B12 and can cause high lactic acid levels and induce lactic acidosis which happened to me twice. It didn't happen right away it was after being on it for a few years and I also had gastro issues from it constantly. Now I can't take any diabetic meds in the same category as metformin because they also induce lactic acidosis. And it caused neuropathy because my b12 levels were low for too long. I really wish drs would address these side effects with patients and really explain how important it is to change our diets instead of just pushing meds on people. Thank you for reading this.
As a doctor, I want to give the best care for my patients. Thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate you. Please also consider sharing this content on social media. Stay tuned for more great videos!
My mom was on Metformin from the time she was about 40 till she was almost 90. So I guess it worked for her. The doctors decided tho to switch her to something else at about 90 years of age. I don’t know why but it may have had something to do with her constant UTI’s. 🤔🤷🏼♀️ She lives in another state and my sister takes care of her. She is 91. We all visit her though etc. We love our sweet little Mamasita 🥰
UTIs are pretty common with elderly! Glad the med worked for your mum! My mum was on HRT for 30 yrs then a dr took her off it and she went down fast! Sometimes it’s best to leave elderly alone on what’s worked most of their life!
My doctor asked me if I'd like to try that newer drug that pretty much guaranteed the UTI's. It excretes excess sugar through your urine, and sugar in the urine passing over the vaginal opening, creates the UTI's. Having had a UTI twice, I said nope. I'm not going on any drug that's going to give me them! I've been on Metformin for nearly a decade.
OMG, thank you! I was wondering why I have constant UTI's....Also after 4 years a bit of stomach problems, no more constipation in other words. Also my weight stabilized after losing 50 lbs. I don't gain weight so easy like before.
She probably has interstitial cystitis and not uti's. Uti's come from poop bacteria and IC is inflammation in the bladder and urethra. You don't take antibiotics for it and it's really painful. Benadryl, aloe Vera tablets, apple cider vinegar and baking soda in water help neutralize the acidic environment in the bladder.
@@lauranydb7979 you probably have interstitial cystitis, which feels like a uti but totally different. Uti's oftentimes come from bad hygiene, ie poop bacteria, research IC.
Im 34 years old and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 1 month ago. My a1c was 14, I have been taking metformin 500 once a day working out 2 hours a day, 4 days a week and monitoring my diet. My a1c is now 10 in just a month. Not where I want to be but it's a start.
Try water fasting for 3 days/72 hours. Your A1C will plummet! Mine went from 10 to 5.7 after doing this a few times, and with diet and exercise, it has stayed there and this is without metformin. Definitely stay away from sugar and maybe you should build up to 3 days but it works!
45 years on metformin for me, 2000 mgs daily.. Started at age 35 and I am now 80. I hope I may be seeing the most desirable side effect of metformin...longevity....
@@robertstancliffsr9575That is awesome. How is your health? Were/are you diabetic? Thank you and congrats on your longevity. 👍🙌 I’ve been on it for almost ten years. No side effects. But I take a lot of vitamins and exercise.
I was prescribed Metformin for Type 2 diabetes. Combined With modest changes in diet, it brought my diabetes under control. Thankfully, My only side effect from taking Metformin was diarrhea for about a week until my body became accustomed to it. I can now even take it on an empty stomach with virtually no effects. Thankfully, it’s also inexpensive.
I will follow my Doc’s direction. She wants to lower metformin because she is concerned I will become hypoglycemic. I test daily and I never get less than 138 however my A1c is now 5.9. It’s amazing what dropping ten lbs can do. Thanks for the video.
I think I tried berberine at some time past and it caused problems with BP/heart. I have taken Ceylon Cinnamon tablets and nopal and a couple of others. Call Sibley they help very minimally but they are not nearly as good as the Cinnatrol.
I have been on metformin for 3months and did not have any side effects. I have lost 18 lbs, drastically changed my eating habits which has not been easy but I just had my glucose test after 3 months and it went from 8.5 to 6.0 . Now I just have to maintain that on a daily basis. I am learning... exercising is a huge hurdle for me and I have challenged myself with a virtual challenge through walking, running, biking (indoor in my case) and learn about different areas of the world while exercising; it motivates me to exercise. I watch walking tours on TH-cam and do some form of exercise ... exercises sitting in a chair is good too. Anything to get me moving. It's NOT easy and I can't say I do it every day, but my goal is to change that. I wish you all well.
We're you diagnosed with diabetes? Or just using it for weightloss? I'm not using yet, but I am reading reviews. I want to lose weight but I don't want to be sick with it. I'm trying to avoid diabetes.
I was prescribed Metformin (type II diabetes)....was told it would probably cause stomach issues for a few weeks. 'Stomach issues' turned out to be severe stomach cramps and daily afternoon diarrhea -- I gave it 3 months then told my doctor I couldn't do it anymore, the side effects never let up. I'm on a different med now, and don't have the issues I did with metformin.
@@natashasd9003 glimepiride. When I found out that with long term use it ruins the pancreas... I wasn't very happy about that. I read the side effects when it was prescribed but I never found anything about that, until hearing about it here on TH-cam. I am going to try the time released metformin...and see if it doesn't make me so sick. My pharmacist told me when I mentioned to him my finding out about the damage that long term usage of glimepiride can do -- but that I wasn't sure what was meant by long term...2 or 3 years? He did say that although he was not sure...that often in medications...that long term is often like using one for 10 years...but he also said to take that with a grain of salt. Anyway, I want to look into supplements a little more to see if those, and more control of my sugar/carb intake can help me reduce or even quit the meds.
I stick to metformin. Its positive side effects is not fully understood yet, but it does seem to affect more than blood sugar. While it obviously has negative side effects, those are less relevant compared to the effect it has at lowering mortality rates compared to people without diabetes, meaning people who are unhealthy potentially live longer than the relatively more healthy. Of course, we do not fully understand the mechanics, but avoiding a drug that works seems silly, unless you are at risk for the worst side effects.
I've commented before on how I wanted to get off of Metformin. I changed my diet, ordered the suggested supplement from Sugar MD. After changing my diet my Dr said I could go off of it with a recheck in one month. I really appreciate your videos because I never received any diabetic information and I've had to research everything on my own. And I've experienced all the side effects of Metformin but it was brushed off to stress and anxiety.
Thanks for the positive feedback. Please spread the message. I appreciate you! Here are some metformin alternatives: th-cam.com/video/tNyuThQSK8Y/w-d-xo.html
He mentioned extended release. Some of those debilitating symptoms with Metformin can be helped with Metformin SR (slow release) as it is labelled in Australia.

Thanks to All the People sharing and Sugar Md I've fasted 8 days several times now . Still at 9.7 Going to try Metformin now and make Life Style changes and diet . The comments are inspiring . Thanks
Excellent video, thanks. I've taken one Jardiamet tablet each night for about 8 years probably. (12.5mg empagliflozin / 1000 mg Metformin) I probably don't take diabetes seriously enough, although I bike ride each day, remain positive & enjoy work & leisure time. My HBA1C is always within limits for my age & other bloods are okay too. All the best to everyone who has diabetes
I took myself off Metformin because of my Kidney Disease and it did nothing for my A1c. I now use diet; going from an A1c of 7.8 to 5.4 last testing. It did take a couple years to get here.
Me too buddy I don't take none of my medication none of them and I I am type 2 diabetic and I don't even take them I told my doctor don't even give it to me don't even it is bad for your kidney and liver I told my daughter the same thing don't take none of medication let's take your sugar level and that's it
Do your research on taurine for kidney treatment, also fenogreek seeds, its very healing the kidney plus many other health benefits. Just cautious if you have thyroid issues ( the fenogreek seeds should be cautious)
I've been prescribed Metformin. Yes. I've experienced Gastrointestinal issues. However, it controls my blood sugar when out-of-control. Anytime you deal with health issues and medical treatments. You must weigh the benefits vs the risks. The risks of high HgA1c certainly lead to kidney damage, eye damage, and heart damage. Which certainly outweighs risk of diarrhea, discomfort and potentially rare side effects. I will gladly trade it for upset stomach and diarrhea. My secret is to only use it very beginning of blood sugar spiking episodes temporarily for less than a week . I control my type 2 diabetes with exercise. Since Metformin disinhibits release of glycogen from liver to your body. Aerobic exercise disinhibits glycogen from converting to glucuse. I discontinue Metfomin after exercising and blood sugars return to normal. I dont really have high blood sugars often. Unless, I indulge. Which happens now and then. My HgA1c is usually between 5.7-6.2. Its best to mostly rely on proper diet and exercise.

Generally a very good discussion. Berberine studies are very limited and mostly poorly done but it seems to have minimal effect on glucose levels but may be better for dyslipidemia hen statins can’t be used. The other problem with some of the “ natural” products is dose consistency. And net neglect your diet. !!
I was type 2 diabetic for 6 years and had liver failure rt fatty liver disease. I was on metformin gor all 6 years. Four years ago I changed my diet and started exercising I lost 65 pounds, now my liver function is normal and I haven't been diabetic or pre-diabetic in 2 years. I feel incredible, but am still dealing with the effects of B12 deficiency. Please do what you can to take care of yourself. If I can do it (with multiple disabilities) anyone can
@Ali_OT7, your story is incredibly inspiring! Congrats on your hard work and success. It just goes to show, it's never too late to bring about a positive change. Keep up the good work!
I've been on Metformin for over 10 years and it rips my gut apart and causes cramps ! I'm going to ask my Doctor about another drug to help. Thank you for the info .
Metformin has given me many troubles but my doctor keeps prescribing it. Very interested in what you have to say. I'm starting to follow your advice and learning to deal with my type 2 diabetes in a more natural way.
I started on stinging nettle recently and noticed a good drop in morning bloods. Also on berberine and benfotimine recommended by Dr Berg. Went from generally mid sixes to sometimes below 5.

My cardiologist told me to stop using Metformin; I was taking 2 1000 mg twice daily; I only take 500 mg if I am constipated and it helps with bowel movement.
I've been eating LCHF for four months. I first avoided taking Metformin but I have now began to use it as a means of decreasing my morning glucagon production, which it appears to help if I eat an early meal before 12:00 pm and before my blood glucose rises above 5.5 mmol/l. I have experienced some hypoglycemic events when I take metformin with my evening meal, happening prior to waking which triggers my liver to produce glucagon. This of course is what the liver is supposed to do, but I prefer not to dip below 3.9 mmol/l, so I am avoiding evening use for now. So far I have not taken greater than one 500 mg dose at a time and no more than two 500 mg doses in a single day. I think the greater factor for me in controlling my blood sugar, has been the elimination of processed carbohydrates, sugars, starches and seed oils which has contributed to significant weight loss for me. Considering that Metformin aids in developing insulin sensitivity I look at it as a tool in my tool kit which helps me to be in controle of my own metabolic health. My experience is anecdotal and may not be the same for everyone. It is also an inexpensive drug that has a three year expiration date and for this reason I will continue to refill my prescriptions, in the event that supply line shortages should make it unavailable. For T2D's who have experienced remission from their disease by adopting a LCHF lifestyle, maintaining a reasonable supply of this drug might be life saving should food choices become less abundant. IMHO. Great podcast, thank you!
I had hypoglycemia on keto and when I added some carbs back in it was better. I was dropping down into the 50’s at night when I was keto and was not taking Metformin at the time.
I took it for years for type 2, and when I came off of it my blood sugar got better. The terrible poops I took actually lost me a couple jobs. One doctor put me on Glipizide and it worked decently. EDIT: Considering the responses I'm getting, I lost jobs not because I had issues while at work. When Metformin was giving me the bad deuces I would be at home dealing with it and had to call off a lot because I couldn't leave the bathroom. That lost me jobs. It wasn't taking time out of doing my job to spend it in the bathroom.
Wow I am a very lucky person… I started 1000mg twice a day and never had a side effect! I’m off now…Keto and Intermittent Fasting was all I needed to do.
Thank you, I have been taking metformin, 2000mgs daily for 45 years and I am 80 now. No problems with the metformin and I might now be seeing the "longevity" side effect metformin may have.....that one I can handle.....

Good job, very informative. I have been reading that Jardiance and Metformin work well together. What is your opinion about combining medications with Metformin? Is age also a factor when considering starting these types of medications, taking into consideration any pre-existing conditions of course. Thank you.
I have taken metformin for 3 months now, I am 80, but I have general fatigue, sometimes diarrhea and cramping, but I thi k my tinnitis was caused by Covid 19, as well as the fatigue, sleep a lot, about 10 hours daily, Walter
Without metformin, I get serious knee pain. Metformin apparently reduces inflammation as well. Couldn't tolerate 2,000 mg after 4 years, but found that 750 mg to be the most I can take daily so that is what I stick with.
When I was first diagnosed with Diabetes, my doctor gave me Metformin. The side effects were awful from the start, and it turned out I had LADA Diabetes so the Metformin wasn't doing anything to begin with to help my situation. Bless the people it does help, but my god....I couldn't get far away from the toilet when I was taking it.

Me too. I had to stay home to be close to a bathroom or put on depends just for small outings. Even on the lowest dose. I can not live like that and am also hungry and miserable all the time. First I tried it, I lasted 2 weeks. Tried it again a month ago and lasted 3 days. Again on the lowest dose ..so its not for me
B12 deficiency causes neuropathy and other neurological problems. Diabetes medicine causes B12 deficiency by blocking its absorption in the intestines. So if you taking diabettes medicine make sure you are taking a B12 supplement to avoid some of these problems.
Very interested in this as was on metformin for nearly 20 years until recently it started causing gastrointestinal issues, had to discontinue use. I am on a total insulin regimen now. Love your videos!

I had to switch from Metforem to Janumet because Metformin made me want to vomit due to the smell and taste. Janumet is exactly the same drug but odorless and tasteless... But costs 5x more lol.
Goodnight I just discovered this video years ago I had Type 2 Diabetes and I received Metformin, after a few tabllets, I reduced my weight and my blood sugor was not high, the Doctor placed me on RECLIDE another medicine for diabetes.
I have been using Metformin since 2001. I do not have any noticeable side effects with the exception of appetite. I eat a regular breakfast and not again until dinner time (5:00 - 6:00 PM).
My Metformin adventure started 8 weeks ago. My weight has dropped from 210lbs to 190lbs from Sept/22 to Nov/22. I'm not pre-diabetic, so I'm taking it off-label. Motivated after studying Dr. David Sinclair, (my son said we should be guinea pigs and do this experiment} taking Berberine, Resveratrol, NMN and practice regular intermittent fasting. He is doing it for longevity to live to 150 years. I am doing it NOT to extend my life but to reverse my biological age so that I have the cardiovascular performance, physiology and hormones of a 20 year old cyclist, yogi at the age of 100 years. I take Metformin rather than Berberine as Metformin is David Sinclair's first choice before Berberine. My target weight is to lose another 30lbs to get down to my college weight of 160 pounds over the next 3 months. I regularly fast and eat OMAD (one meal a day) and am active every day either cycling or yoga.
So can I take metformin if I'm not a diabetic. I have some but I'm a little scare to take them because I'm not a diabetic. also I have high cholesterol and I heard it raises your cholesterol too.
I stopped taking NMN because I found a 'growth,' after a few months of taking it. Did NMN cause it? I don't know. All I know is that NMN was the only change to my lifestyle. I look quite young for my age, hit the gym 4-5 times a week and already taking metformin and resveratrol.
Bottom line it still boils down to the food we eat...how much...and how often...yah, lifestyle!... .. grassfed protein, organic produce, less process carb, and exercise!

I have been a Type 2 diabetic since 2002. I started taking Metformin ER, 1,000 MG's a day at dinnertime. It's worked pretty well, my sugar levels, while a bit high are not out of control. Not only that, I rarely get low blood sugar attacks. I used to but I don't anymore. I live alone and thus, eat less. I'm trying my best, and so far, my diabetes is pretty much under control.
I’ve been on metformin for about 4 weeks since my diagnosis I haven’t had any bad side effects at all. The only side effect I’ve even noticed is that I’m almost never hungry. Last Friday I didn’t eat for the first time that day until around 5:30 PM wasn’t hungry all day at all.
Hello, i am at the 3rd day and before i used to do OMAD but since i started i am litterally hungry at every second 🥲 Did you loose weight btw? I have insulin resitance and pre diabetic but because i also have Hashimoto’s my doctors prescribed to me this and said i need to loose weight because i am on a sure weight to dyabetes😢

I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and my doctor put me on metformin. The first day I had a little bit of diarrhea, but have not had any trouble with that since. But I take pro and pre biotics regularly. I felt better almost immediately when I started taking it! My sugar had been over 300 fasting! It is now down to about 120. I didn’t realize how badly I was feeling before I started taking the metformin.
I am extremely ignorant. I had no idea that one would actually feel better after taking this medication. The doctor just prescribed it today. My blood sugar is at 130, she prescribed 500mg. I hope I feel better as well. That would be great.
@@Thebirdwolf I started with 500 mg twice a day. Still on the same dose. My blood glucose in the morning has been between 90 and 120 most of the time. Although I am also eating a restricted carbohydrate diet.
Thanks for educating us our docs are painfully ignorant don't have the time or just don't really care about discussing our chronic meds. I feel it does nothing to combat cholesterol I'm still on 40mg Aspovar..1000mg metformin daily 55 years-old
Thank you for your question! The choice between regular and extended-release metformin often depends on your specific needs. Regular metformin is taken multiple times a day, while extended-release (ER) is taken once daily, which can reduce side effects like stomach upset for some people. It’s best to consult with your doctor to see which version would be more appropriate for your situation. Let us know if you have more questions!

My husband ended up in hospital 11 December 2015 with a sugar reading of 21 ...(a piece of steak got stuck in his narrow suphogas- pardon spelling)...and by chance hospital diagnosed him with type 2 diabetes. After 7 days on drips to bring down his sugar & strict diabetes diet from Dietitian, my husband stopped drinking alcohol totally...changed his lifestyle, weight is a healthy 64kg....and within 2 yrs with my support & dedication, he came off his Metformin and another tablet and sugar down to 4.9. Dedication, discipline and exercise key words to good health.
Metformin caused horrible pain in my legs. At first I wasn’t sure it was that so I quit taking it for a month then started again and sure enough the pain came back the same day, particularly my knees. Screw that drug.
Thank you Dr. For all the helpful info about taking metformin! I am on metformin for approximately 20 years. Don’t have any side effects but I am on 850 mg 3 times a day. Plus on insulin too.

I was diagnosed that I was a diabetic with A1C of 9.6 about a year ago and started metformin. I changed what I ate drastically. Stopped metformin and 4 months later my A1C was 5.5. Started to eat a more normal North American diet and my A1C is now 5.7. Try changing your diet first and lower your carbs and you 2 might be pleasantly surprised. Bye the way I am 69 years old.

I was on Metformin for about 8 years but eventually developed diarrhea which I know was a side effect so ignored it. Then my hemoglobin count started dropping and I developed anemia over a period of two years. My doctor was concerned but couldn’t determine the cause. I researched Metformin and anemia and found a connection albeit in very few cases. I asked my doctor to replace Metformin and within two weeks of stopping it, the anemia was totally resolved.

My doctor told me that diarrhoea side effects can be cut out by reducing carbs in my diet. This has been my experience. Generally 'faster' sugars, pizza base, white bread, soda and fruit juices make for worse side effects. Low glycemic carbs like pasta and fruit especially berries don't have nearly as bad side effects. Metformin has been great for me and knowing what foods cause side effects made it easy for me to avoid side effects from the start. Just experiment with carb heavy foods. Being able to eat berries and pasta mean I'm not feeling deprived from carby treats.

Drastic changes in what you eat and daily exercise are the two biggest things. My A1C was 11.1 in July 2022. I was put on Glipizide before meals and Metformin after meals twice a day. Along with changing my diet and exercise my A1C went down to 6.2 within 3 months. The doctor took me off Glipizide soon after because it was causing my blood sugar to get too low. A few months ago I started taking a Bitter-melon dietary supplement and I don’t take Metformin as much. It’s probably better if you eat actual bitter-melon. I’ve also added in an occasional soda and ice cream. My glucose level is still under 130 on most days. Average is 110-115. I’m just experimenting to see what works best for my body. My last A1C check was 6.3. If I exercised regularly and actually stuck to a strict diet, I think that I could get my A1C to under 6 easily.

183cm tall, 87kg, and type 2, I've been taking 500mg three times a day for almost 9 years, my blood sugar level before breakfast is 150, and two hours after the meal about 200. A1C varies from 7.0 to 8.5, it's up to how much I eat carbs and sugar, up to how much exercise or walking I do. I don't know if metformin is working on me. Once I worked hard for a few weeks, my A1C reduced to 5.8. I can not walk 5000 steps every day. My average steps a day is only 1500. To me the best thing to do is not eat, taking under 1500kcal a day would be the best solution.
I had a horrible reaction to Metformin 500MG 2X/day/ Diarrheas all the time. It was horrible. I am now on Ozempic with a once weekly shot. So far my A1C is 6.8.
I on a similar dug called TRULICITY and the result was outstanding. Diet, exercise and Metformin had minimal effect. Actually zero effect. Side started on my weekly TRULICITY my blood sugar and HbA1c normalised and I lost more than 20kg in weight.
Wow you are so lucky. I was diagnosed three weeks ago and since starting treatment i have been so sick with nausea and was told to leave it for two days. What a relief. I dont feel sick
I just started 500 MG twice a day a couple of days ago for Type 2 diabetes, and pray it helps with weight loss. I've tried everything. I am about 50 lbs over weight and nothing worked. Keto and calorie counting. This is my last hope.
I have diagnostic diabetes type 2 last October 2023 my a1c 11.50, I tested yesterday now I have 5.90 thanks God

Outstanding result.
This wonderful ❤️ 💖 🎉 congratulations 🎊

I had bouts of diarrhea when I started taking metformin. My doctor advised i should keep to it, that my body will adjust to it. I did, and i got over the gastrointestinal issues. It's been working well for me. Its been eleven years now.
I know you commented a year ago but I’ve just been prescribed Metformin and am wondering how it has worked positively for you? I have slight insulin resistance and multiple symptoms of PCOS but overall quite healthy. I’m not so sure it’s the right thing for me
Me too, 37 years of taking medicine like glimeperide and metfomen..so far so good at my sugar level.
How long it took to get adjusted ?
I never got over it, unfortunately.
I take one a day.
I have been doing it since I was 66 years of age.
And I am now 77..
I really don't like to take any medicine, but my doctor said that we have to control your Type 2 diabetes.
And that was the first time I knew that I have it
I stopped taking my Metformin and started controlling my diabetes with diet alone; my sugar levels are lower now than they were on the drugs.
I take slow release Metformin and never had any issues. The standard form did give me stomach problems.
This does not work for everyone.
I have been taking Metformin for over 15 years. It has never hurt me and really helps keep my A1C low.
@lucilesnow5180 Thank you for sharing your experience with it.
I have PCOS and my doctor prescribed this to me. My PCOS is getting my weight bigger and bigger. Does metformin helps you to have weight loss?
I don't really watch the videos from this channel but I'm reading the comments section and I have been taking metformin since 2004, and I have never had any problems and I went from 356 pounds to 261 pounds as of last week
Wow! Congratulations! Good going!
You also need to supplement B1 with metformin
Gym hi
You have to start with an very low dosis ... 250 mg...500 Mg ... 500mg in the morning + afternoon ...
Interesting. been on it 4 years myself, gastro issues and muscle cramps at night when I am trying to sleep

Your doc is poorly informed. Metformin do not cause hypoglycaemia.

Can someone take metformin AND dihydro-berberine (or berberine) at the same time?

I was diagnosed with diabeties, type 2.
Which meds are you on? If you don't mind sharing?
I know lots of people taking Metformin and they all are now in their 80’s and 90’s. People who were not on Metformin they died in their 60’s
Ive been on Metformin ever since my diagnosis in 2017. It works. I experience no issues whatsoever. I take 2000 mg per day.
Do you drink alkohol?
Hi Thank for sharing! Do you take your 2000mg at once or in two doses? Thanks
@DavidWilliams-qd4yp I no longer take 2000mg per day. I take 500mg per day now. Intermittent fasting (18:6 ratio) and exercise has worked wonders.
Does this mean we should just take metformin to prevent insulin resistance?
The Hospital made me take Metformin and now my kidneys are messed up, am in stage 3 of kidney failure thanks to metformn, thanks for the help....

Generally a very good discussion. Berberine studies are very limited and mostly poorly done but it seems to have minimal effect on glucose levels but may be better for dyslipidemia hen statins can’t be used. My cardiologist told me to stop using Metformin; I was taking 2 1000 mg twice daily; I only take 500 mg if I am constipated and it helps with bowel movement.
I was also told to eat plenty of broccoli. It works well.
Parsley and cilantro tea
Very good presentation thanks. Quick query: JARDIANCE (empagliflozin) is it a safe medicine? Does it put pancreas into over drive
I've been on metformin for over 12 years now. I had constant loose bowel for several years. That finally went away and I've had no other side effects.
IMHO.

Good job, very informative. I have been reading that Jardiance and Metformin work well together. What is your opinion about combining medications with Metformin? Is age also a factor when considering starting these types of medications, taking into consideration any pre-existing conditions of course. Thank you.
Always informative, been diagnosed pre-diabetic so anything I can do to fight being diabetic I will do!!!

Without metformin, I get serious knee pain. Metformin apparently reduces inflammation as well. Couldn't tolerate 2,000 mg after 4 years, but found that 750 mg to be the most I can take daily so that is what I stick with.
Yes same here it’s helps a lot with my inflammation ❤

You can cut carbs and sugar and reverse your diabetes.
I have been using it for 15 years and have had no major issues, that I know of anyway.
Same here but with 45 years of metformin usage. I will be 81 in a sew months...
Hey I love hearing you say stay happy healthy and free!!!!! Tired of "be safe"😜 good job!!!
I have been using Metformin since 2001. I do not have any noticeable side effects with the exception of appetite. I eat a regular breakfast and not again until dinner time (5:00 - 6:00 PM).
Maybe they envy the tremendous success of metformin ! I will NOT STOP,METFORMIN
I started a week ago
Why would anyone want to live to 150? I turn 51 tomorrow and I wish I would just die.

It’s been 3 weeks for me i literally forget to eat. I’ve lost 12 pounds.

Yea, Metformin was first used in the Philippines in 1922.

That's great! What dosage did you start with and what do you take now?
I am extremely ignorant. I had no idea that one would actually feel better after taking this medication. The doctor just prescribed it today. My blood sugar is at 130, she prescribed 500mg. I hope I feel better as well. That would be great.

I started with 500 mg twice a day. Still on the same dose. My blood glucose in the morning has been between 90 and 120 most of the time. Although I am also eating a restricted carbohydrate diet.

Thanks for educating us our docs are painfully ignorant don't have the time or just don't really care about discussing our chronic meds. I feel it does nothing to combat cholesterol I'm still on 40mg Aspovar..1000mg metformin daily 55 years-old
Since taking Trulicity my A1C has dropped from 8.6 to 5.4 😊😊😊😊
Ma'am what is Trulicity? What does it do?
Hi Dr. you didnt mention anything about regular and extended release difference. which one is better to start?
Thank you for your question! The choice between regular and extended-release metformin often depends on your specific needs. Regular metformin is taken multiple times a day, while extended-release (ER) is taken once daily, which can reduce side effects like stomach upset for some people. It’s best to consult with your doctor to see which version would be more appropriate for your situation. Let us know if you have more questions!

Thank you for this explanation. So many people are demonizing metformin.
Took metformin for a few days for gestational diabetes and since then, I have been having stomach issues.
Thank you Dr. For all the helpful info about taking metformin! I am on metformin for approximately 20 years.

Are you taking slow release?
I was diagnosed that I was a diabetic with A1C of 9.6 about a year ago and started metformin. I changed what I ate drastically. Stopped metformin and 4 months later my A1C was 5.5. Started to eat a more normal North American diet and my A1C is now 5.7. Try changing your diet first and lower your carbs and you 2 might be pleasantly surprised. Bye the way I am 69 years old.
Do you still take Metformin after your A1C increased?
Thanks Dr Ergin looking forward to hearing what you have to say on this. Have a great day!

Pasta low carb? Low glycemic index? I think not! 😂

Thank you so much. Berberine is available Berberis vulgaris in homeopathy and it's useful in controlling sugar level.
Thank you so much for sharing this GREAT information!

Is there a way not to take anything and get your a1c number down?
