I've been weaning off, as I'm off all other diabetes meds. After cutting all grains & added sugars, and sticking to low carb veggies/fruits/dairy in moderation, was finally able to keep my blood sugar in the 80s and avoid spikes. Can't wait to be off it permanently.

Metformin was prescribed to me first month I was diagnosed with diabetes. But had to change medications. I was vomiting everyday and got weak. Lost appetite too. I'm taking one medicine now 3x daily and vitamins.
I had to decrease my dose and eliminated the evening dose. I think it affected my sleep. And I had lots of nausea. I take 1000 each morning with a meal and so far, so good. I do love this channel - it’s such a wonderful resource, not just the good Dr but the community here.
I was prescribed metformin last year. Didn't take one. Reduced my ha1c since...by making diet and 'routine' adjustments. This includes movements, appropriate sleep, etc. 😊
The metformin made me feel like I was dying. I had cold sweats, severe fatigue/no energy. My doctor said it can take time to get used to it but I couldn't get out of bed when I took it. I ended up stopping it and switching to berberine.
Metformin hurt me so much. My belly was always painfully bloated. I looked 6 months pregnant with a rock solid belly. I had so many other issues. I seen about switching to berberine. I'll try that.
My doctor prescribed metformin 2x daily. I only take 1 tab because I am overly sensitive to drugs. My A1C is 6.9 not too severe but my doctor insist. I started taking berberine as a supplement also.
I also take Metformin twice a day, and will take one 500mg Berberine at bedtime if my blood sugar is over 100. I did this on my own, and my A1C has dropped to below 5 for the first time in decades. Elevated A1C can lead to blood vessel issues and peripherical neuropathy, and I suffer from both. Wish I had found this channel earlier. Get it as low as you can. Mine never got above 5.9, to me, 6.9 is not good, but you have to make the choice for yourself. Neuropathy and heart disease is not fun.
I was diagnosed with mitochondrial myopathy while on Metformin and found to have elevated lactate levels so it was stopped immediately. This was after being on it for 10 years for pre-diabetes.
I always had bad side effects from metformin in the past. I tried taking a half of metformin once per day to get used to it before going on the extended release metformin just a few days ago. After the 2nd day of one half metformin I ate some extra food that night (chips and some cookies, bad carbs) and ended up so sick. Thought I was going to die and it also raised my blood sugar. I won't be taking metformin anymore or getting into the extended release metformin either, forget that.

I have been taking metformin for 35 years for type 2 diabetes. Never had any problems, and I am now 80 years old. As far as I am concerned, "what side effects?". I do have my kidney function checked often because that is recommended by my doctor. Also I had my B-12 checked and it was normal.....Metformin works great for me. Now that I am 80 I'm wondering if I am having the metformin longevity side effect? If that is true, I can live with that one. Metformin is free with my insurance, and I would recommend metformin.............
I took it for less than a month at my Doctor's insistence and it destroyed my health. A year later I'm still not back to where I was. It's a great meditation for many many people, but some people have problems with it. A pity my Doctor seemed to be oblivious to the possibility of side effects and insisted I keep taking it.
I took Metformin and ended up in the hospital after a few doses. It effected my heart. Metformin did work but my diabetic doctor (Endocrinologist) advised I learn to diet control my blood sugar issues.

Thank you doctor for your valuable information on "meds". My doctor took be off Glipiside and replaced with Trajenta. Not much report on it, except for me, it's quite costly. I have been using metformin for many years and find it works well; if we all are aware that all "meds" work alot better with proper dieting. Metformin also definitely slows the aging process. A healthy diet is the key to good health. I am 75 going on 76, and trying my best to eat healthy..I love lots of veggies & red wine... Thanks for your advice, doctor.
I’ve never heard it slows the aging process. Wow. I was on prednisone for 9 1/2 years for severe asthma and prednisone accelerates aging. My skin got extremely thin. I was 20 years younger than my mom and looked 20 years older. I’m now 79. Maybe this many years on metformin has counteracted the prednisone. Which the prednisone gave me diabetes. 🤷♀️

When I was on this the smell of food made me gag. I lost 50 pounds in three months. Finally fired the Nurse Practitioner because I had been sick the whole time I was on it and felt sick.
I was taking Berberine with fish oil and my glucuse spiked to over 200mgs....I stopped both and it has been staying within normal range again....just to let you know...
Dihydroberberine is what your body really absorbs and uses. Berberine has to be converted Dihydroberberine. During conversion a lot of gas is created which causes bloating. Our Super Berberine product is Dihydroberberine plus 20X concentrated Ceylon Cinnamon.
I stopped 7 months ago. I had trouble keeping my number below 200 taking 3 or 4 a day. My nueropothy and swelling was getting scarey. I began a better diet and berberine. My swelling went down my sugar levels are 120 to 150 each morning and around 100 by days end. My feet are still numb but much better
Trying adding fat soluble b1 or bentofitomine please excuse the spelling. Also try taking vitamin B12. Metformin can deplete these and can induce neuropathy
I was taking 2 of the 1000mg aa day. I've switched to bitter melon the last month with the same results. I'm also doing intermittent fasting. Around 15 to 16 hours at a time each day. My numbers seem to stay lower the longer I go.
I can't remember the metformin but it was suggesting 2 per day. My diet wasn't as good as it is now and no fasting at the time. It worked good for around a year and then it got bad for around a year. I increased my dosage as my numbers increased. Then my neuropathy started getting bad. That persisted for a few months until I started the berberine, fasting and diet.
It's use of 2 a day had caused diaherra for all the years after I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (12yrs ago) as I have diverticulous and had to go on 6 teaspoons of benefiber a day. So I thought that the Benefiber was causing the diaherra,. I am off meteforman and have been put on Ozempic going on the 2nd week. Will see what it has done as I have a A1 screening dcheckup in 8 weeks.
I had A1C level 6.9 doctor prescribed metformin 2x day. I've been taken 1x daily for 2 months now and considering stopping today. Side effects are awful. Nauseous, body aches, headaches.
I take metformin 3 pills a day and one berberine / cinnamon mix pill and my blood sugar has gone down to a little above the normal range about 110 to 135. When it used to be near 200+/- = Makes me happier, but I sure miss my grapefruit. I would love to take a chance, but the bottle says I shouldn't.. Supposedly it supposedly suppose to affect the muscles??

Well I had to stop taking metformin as it was giving me gastrointestinal problems-mainly a lot a flatulence and was making me feel sick. So I removed sugar from what I eat and it’s only been 5 days and the difference to my overall health is incredible. I was pre-diabetic but I’m sure now my blood sugars will be normal. Blood test in 4 weeks and a doctors visit will be interesting to see the results. I think cutting out sugar will be the best thing for my health I can do at 55.
I once took one 500mg berberine capsule a few hours after I took a 500mg blackberry metformin and went into extreme low blood sugar. So I would recommend not to take these with in hours of each other. In the last 3 weeks I decided to try just berberine, and cut out metformin to see if there is a difference. But I only take 1 500mg berberine every 12 hours. Watching my carb intake, best to lower carbs as much as you can , carbs are the problem here.

I took this horrible drug for 12 years. Low T and high mental confusion. My doctor only told me about some of the side effects, not all of them. I absolutely hate my doctor now.
Admitted to hospital found out I was type 2. Two days on Metformin put me in ICU for a week. Doctors never really explained to me what exactly happened other than if I stayed on Metformin, I would of died. ( Someone said I was 1% of everyone taking Metformin, that reacts to it like I did )
@@lolawoods3314 Sitting on the toilet needing to pass a bowel motion (not successful) I noticed beads of sweat on both my arms (imagine bubble wrap, wrapped around each arm) calling the nurse, 3 nurses assisted me back to bed. My symptoms continued with cramps in the stomach, a sleight chest pain, feeling extremely cold (freezing) so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open, drifting in and out of awareness, chest / stomach pain felt like it was gone and replaced with spasms/ locking up feeling, after that I started losing feeling/pain to my body, the coldness took over I felt so cold ( I could of been burning up for all I know ). Last I remember was going down the hallway at very high speed (lights on ceiling whizzing passed so fast) off to get a CT scan then landed in ICU.

I had no idea Metformin was responsible for my daily diarrhea. For almost 10 years. Two different PCPs failed to mention the side effect of the Metformin. I finally stopped taking it, and the diarrhea disappeared 3 days later!
Hi Doc, I have been taking metformin for close to a year with no side effects, my recent blood test showed protein in my urine I was told I am ok, now I am concerned about the protein, should I get the kidney function test. I live in Africa doc. My mother has been prescribed Metformin. I dont think we get Berberine here. I was informed that Jardiance(Empagliflozin) is much safer than Metformin. Should she take this instead. Please advise!
I took the super berberine and it made me physically ill, throwing up and upset stomach is that normal? Metformin was a million times worse, but I would still love to be able to take the berberine. Can you make a recommendation for those of us with sensitive stomachs? I was taking 1 in the morning, with breakfast and none of the possible interactions you discussed in this video as I do not drink at all. I am type 2, 55 years old and take only Trulicity.
Berberine upset my gastrointestinal tract similarly. I tried different ways to dose it but to no avail. Metformin causes me no issues so I've stayed w/it.

Please advise your insights about my medicine Jardiance Duo. I suffered ischemic stroke 5 years ago. I'm still recovering and my weak side part is still numb and stingy. Perepheral Neuropathy I guess.

Started metformin 2 year ago. When I was hospitalized with covid pneumonia. I'm 63. Was keeping my numbers 100 to 180 with diet. My doctor put me on a cholesterol medication 6 month ago. Now it's hard to get my numbers down below 226. Could cholesterol mess cause it to rise. Doint have a ck up for a while. ?
I stopped Metformin and the cholestrol prescription (Aspavor) from my doctor about a year ago. Just cut out sugar and carbs. Now my cholestrol is normal and my blood sugar around 5.8 to 6.6 which is just inside prediabetes. Still drinking a lot of beer though.

Diabetes has been like a wildfire in my family. Started with my grandfather. Then went to my 2 aunts, 2 uncles then my father. My oldest brother got diagnosed last year n he’s now taking the shots. Both my twin brother n I have been diagnosed at age 69 n I am taking metformin n super Berberine. Blood sugar always in the 120s when tested. Hoping exercise n diet helps keeping it low.
I been taking met Forman with ozempic for 3 months I quit taking the ozempic i drastically lost weight mostly muscle mass now I have nerve damage my whole body hurts I’m weak I feel like my bones hurt I still take the metformin 500 mg before bed and a cholesterol med but I get diarrhea almost daily I’m afraid to eat I only eat once daily and a snack of fruit/nuts/vegetables my life is worse since I started these medications I hate these meds

My husband who has since past had horrible side effects from taking metformen my next door neighbour also started taking metformen and she had horrible side effects aswell
Im on metformin for a month and i keep swelling. My hands and legs swell really bad now. I feel awful and tired all the time. It has had zero effect on my blood glucose levels.

After taking Metformin for a year, I developed horrible Neuropathy in my feet, I quit taking it. 96 hours later my Neuropathy is GONE! Have not returned.
How do you know if your blood is acidic. Why are you talking about Bernadine if you are supposed to be talking about metformine. You are talking about everything But Metformine. Very confusing!!!

I had major issues with 'Metforem' but once I switched to Janumet and Jardiance combination I have practically zero GI issues or bad feelings...
I stopped Metformin years ago before the pandemic. Still doing ok so far.

I take 1000 mg two times a day plus insulin on a sliding scale just got approved for the Dexcom G6 and the Omni Pod You get very good information Dr.
What is the difference between Berberine, super Berberine and dihydroberberine?
Dihydroberberine is what your body really absorbs and uses. Berberine has to be converted Dihydroberberine. During conversion a lot of gas is created which causes bloating. Our Super Berberine product is Dihydroberberine plus 20X concentrated Ceylon Cinnamon.

I stopped 7 months ago. I had trouble keeping my number below 200 taking 3 or 4 a day. My nueropothy and swelling was getting scarey. I began a better diet and berberine. My swelling went down my sugar levels are 120 to 150 each morning and around 100 by days end. My feet are still numb but much better

Trying adding fat soluble b1 or bentofitomine please excuse the spelling. Also try taking vitamin B12. Metformin can deplete these and can induce neuropathy
I was taking 2 of the 1000mg aa day.
I've switched to bitter melon the last month with the same results. I'm also doing intermittent fasting. Around 15 to 16 hours at a time each day. My numbers seem to stay lower the longer I go.
I can't remember the metformin but it was suggesting 2 per day. My diet wasn't as good as it is now and no fasting at the time. It worked good for around a year and then it got bad for around a year. I increased my dosage as my numbers increased. Then my neuropathy started getting bad. That persisted for a few months until I started the berberine, fasting and diet.
I was on the extended release ,and took myself off of it,because it caused way too many problems for me .
It's use of 2 a day had caused diaherra for all the years after I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (12yrs ago) as I have diverticulous and had to go on 6 teaspoons of benefiber a day. So I thought that the Benefiber was causing the diaherra,. I am off meteforman and have been put on Ozempic going on the 2nd week. Will see what it has done as I have a A1 screening dcheckup in 8 weeks.
I had A1C level 6.9 doctor prescribed metformin 2x day. I've been taken 1x daily for 2 months now and considering stopping today. Side effects are awful. Nauseous, body aches, headaches.
It helps me. I have gastrointestinal issues if I eat anything with excess sugar or carbs. A1c of 5.9 with diet and 1000mg metformin hcl er daily
I take metformin 3 pills a day and one berberine / cinnamon mix pill and my blood sugar has gone down to a little above the normal range about 110 to 135. When it used to be near 200+/- = Makes me happier, but I sure miss my grapefruit. I would love to take a chance, but the bottle says I shouldn't.. Supposedly it supposedly suppose to affect the muscles??

Well I had to stop taking metformin as it was giving me gastrointestinal problems-mainly a lot a flatulence and was making me feel sick. So I removed sugar from what I eat and it’s only been 5 days and the difference to my overall health is incredible. I was pre-diabetic but I’m sure now my blood sugars will be normal. Blood test in 4 weeks and a doctors visit will be interesting to see the results. I think cutting out sugar will be the best thing for my health I can do at 55.

I once took one 500mg berberine capsule a few hours after I took a 500mg blackberry metformin and went into extreme low blood sugar. So I would recommend not to take these with in hours of each other. In the last 3 weeks I decided to try just berberine, and cut out metformin to see if there is a difference.
But I only take 1 500mg berberine every 12 hours. Watching my carb intake, best to lower carbs as much as you can , carbs are the problem here.

I am 36 years old and my hbA1c is 3.9 and avg sugar is 64, not sure what is causing this low sugar …. I eat quite a lot of sugar.

I took this horrible drug for 12 years. Low T and high mental confusion. My doctor only told me about some of the side effects, not all of them. I absolutely hate my doctor now.

Admitted to hospital found out I was type 2. Two days on Metformin put me in ICU for a week. Doctors never really explained to me what exactly happened other than if I stayed on Metformin, I would of died. ( Someone said I was 1% of everyone taking Metformin, that reacts to it like I did )

@@lolawoods3314 Sitting on the toilet needing to pass a bowel motion (not successful) I noticed beads of sweat on both my arms (imagine bubble wrap, wrapped around each arm) calling the nurse, 3 nurses assisted me back to bed. My symptoms continued with cramps in the stomach, a sleight chest pain, feeling extremely cold (freezing) so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open, drifting in and out of awareness, chest / stomach pain felt like it was gone and replaced with spasms/ locking up feeling, after that I started losing feeling/pain to my body, the coldness took over I felt so cold ( I could of been burning up for all I know ). Last I remember was going down the hallway at very high speed (lights on ceiling whizzing passed so fast) off to get a CT scan then landed in ICU.
My endocrinologist said that the contrast dye used with MRI or CT scan, isn't as much of a problem as DRs used to think it was.
Is the risk worth it?

I had no idea Metformin was responsible for my daily diarrhea. For almost 10 years. Two different PCPs failed to mention the side effect of the Metformin. I finally stopped taking it, and the diarrhea disappeared 3 days later!

I was prescribed Metformin 1000mg twice daily. What dosage of Berberine would replace that?

I took the super berberine and it made me physically ill, throwing up and upset stomach is that normal? Metformin was a million times worse, but I would still love to be able to take the berberine. Berberine upset my gastrointestinal tract similarly. I tried different ways to dose it but to no avail. Metformin causes me no issues so I've stayed w/it.
Caused me very bad shaking, couldn't hold anything, felt freezing cold, impossible for me to take.
I also had the same problem so I started taking vitamin B12 and now I feel better
I just got perscribed this medication. Now I'm worried and think I should switch to Berberine.

Started metformin 2 year ago. When I was hospitalized with covid pneumonia. I'm 63. Was keeping my numbers 100 to 180 with diet. My doctor put me on a cholesterol medication 6 month ago. Now it's hard to get my numbers down below 226. Could cholesterol mess cause it to rise. Doint have a ck up for a while. ?
Stations are known to effect blood sugar and has given diabetes to people who did not have it before.
I stopped Metformin and the cholestrol prescription (Aspavor) from my doctor about a year ago. Just cut out sugar and carbs. Now my cholestrol is normal and my blood sugar around 5.8 to 6.6 which is just inside prediabetes. Still drinking a lot of beer though.

Diabetes has been like a wildfire in my family. Started with my grandfather. Then went to my 2 aunts, 2 uncles then my father. My oldest brother got diagnosed last year n he’s now taking the shots. Both my twin brother n I have been diagnosed at age 69 n I am taking metformin n super Berberine. Blood sugar always in the 120s when tested. Hoping exercise n diet helps keeping it low.

After taking Metformin for a year, I developed horrible Neuropathy in my feet, I quit taking it. 96 hours later my Neuropathy is GONE! Have not returned.

I was given Metformin a few years ago.within three days I broke out in a hideous rash all over.i ended up in hospital.A rare reaction but the danger is there!
