I like Paul, he is the type of bloke that looks like he is having a really great time no matter what he is doing. When you look at him it's almost like he is holding back laughter. Happens to be amazing at creating melodies that stay in your head for decades too!
Artists that start making music to make money fast and get rich and famous - todays popclones. Artists that started making music because they have the heart, soul, talent and fun in making music - people like OMD. Andy & Paul were awesome back in the days and they are still awesome to this day :)
Andy comes across whilst not n stage as a very sensible, intelligent and calm guy, which he is. But on stage performing, he is a mad, energetic and seriously great entertainer with a voice to match. Saw them live in Belfast twice a couple of years ago and the magic of OMD is alive and well. My all time favourite band.☘️❤️👍
And thank you for " Maid of Orleans" Probably on my top 10 of greatest tunes ever...up there with Enio Morricone ... Once upon a Time in the West ... lush
Well at 49yrs old I have in my Porsche Cayman S 4 cd's ..1 of which is OMD'd GH's , one is Kate Bush, one is Matt Munroe and the other is John Denver. Bloody beautiful music and get's you through the worst of it.
I take my hat off to this band. The 80s was great but people do forget they was hard times too. You did not get help like now with stuff. Lots of poor people trying to make ends meat and you could not get credit or nothing back then. A good synth cost the same price of a house back then. Money was very tight back then. It’s great to see bands like OMD use what they could to follow their dream. Because bands had to do what they could back then that’s why I think is why they come out with good music because of the ideas they did with what they could. Great days love to live them again.
I love the bit where Andy strips Electricity down to it's individual parts and everything sounds so naff - you wouldn't believe all those sounds put together could make a song that good.
Hitting the nail on the head. 'It was played manually, we didn't have midium, we didn't have a sequencer. It wasn't played from a drum machine'. Nowadays you don't even need to have the basic skills anymore to play that stuff, just program it and of you go. Proving that 'the old boys' have greater skill than most young ones today. OMD made me discover electronic music as a teen.
Well that’s interesting because as soon as they got better equipment they used it. There’s a drum machine on enola gay and there’s a sequencer on messages.
I have one of the Korg M500 synths. £200 1981. All synths have their own character, but it just has a unique set of sounds. The messages riff, was indeed a nightmare to time the octave dial. Mine is still in full working order, and mint condition.
HAHAHA! 21:12 is utterly hilarious, I love how both Andy & Paul are still getting used to playing with each other again after so many years. Can't wait to see them on April 5th!
In wikipedias Flock of Seagulls page: "In a 2007 article for The Guardian, Alfred Hickling described the group as "dreadful", and unfavourably compared them to Liverpool new wave peers OMD and other acts of the time." Synth genius is not recognized at first.
Brilliant. I never realised that was how Messages was done - I've just done the same thing now (with an ARP synth, not their Korg, but it works the same). :D

Pure Genius's!!...love them both!!...it's a shame that the music industry has gone the way it has when the roots of it comes from wizards like Andy and Paul, they must be crying in their sleep after watching programs like the X/factor and the Voice!!.

So modest , great humble men but brilliant 😃
It's the gliches and homemade sounds that make it great

I love the way they are so unassuming of their success :-)
Feet on the ground, rooted in their home town of Liverpool.
