Oakey was such an up-tight bastard about his synth peers. He wrote a gushing essay for OMD's new book in which he declared OMD superior to the Human League, so it's good to see he's finally chilled out a bit.
Saying that, but Andy McLuskey could, and still is a fair bit sniffy, especially at Numan, but then again, lead singers have egos, and mix that with testosterone and you have a good mix to make little egos on sticks.
@@LFOVCF I agree with much of that but McCluskey and Numan have been good friends since they first met in '79. OMD and Numan have supported each other on tour over the years.
Great archive clips, just a wee shame it's missing the end as it cuts off abruptly and slight continuity bits elsewhere. But what nostalgic gold this is ! Never realised Johnny Logan was such a hard knock! :)) 1980 of course is always remembered for the musicians union strike which took TOTP off air for several weeks during the summer, and we really did miss our weekly fix of the top 40 then.....
