Haha, well, it's not for everyone. For multi-step tasks like this, I take a pic at each major step then label a small zip-lock plastic bag with that step's #. Then I put the screws, nuts & bolts, etc. for that step into the bag and note that step on my notepad/clipboard. And now, with today's mobile phones, a "pic" can also be a "motion photo" -- meaning it's a short video clip. (A feature on my Samsung GS9 phone.) 😁
Check out the method GE Appliances reccomends haha theres a video on youtube, they remove the door as one piece and leave it like that. they just dip a towel in soapy water and then tie it onto a yardstick and poke it between the glass from the bottom
I love this guy!! I had no idea you could ever get between the glass to clean it--I'd assumed i was just stuck with a nasty looking over door forever. Thanks for this cool video.
Ok I did on my 2020 GE profile oven (three panes of glass). It took about 45 minutes. Need a phone camera , Need a T15 TORX driver and 1/4 inch nut driver. Remove door and lay it on a rug or towel on floor or bench. Remove top two top screws from top inside of door. Just loosen enough to free them. Turn door over and remove three machine screws with nut driver at bottom. Other than that pretty much like his video. Suggest nitrile gloves to handle glass. The two inner panes are framed by a steel double channel. There is a tab on one corner that you bend up to release the frame and carefully slide out glass panels for cleaning. The glass is thin so have a towel on a flat surface to clean them. As I said , take picture along the way and Mark holes where screws go if you need to. There are four sets of screws all same length and type with each set so it’s hard to confuse things.
Wow, I have never seen this done before! It was nice seeing you patiently & intelligently going about this task. It is not a real common skill you know. Thanks

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean he is missing the point! Only a complete fool would buy a new appliance because of dirty glass!! My ovens have never had dirt between the glass panes, but if it happened, I certainly would not purchase a new oven. Maybe you should be careful, and take care of your oven door so it does not get dirty! Taking apart an oven door probably ruins the seal anyway.

Some door panels have a retaining mastic which stops the glass rattling in the metal frame. To remove the glass, apply gentle pressure in the opposite to the retainer mastic to slide the panels out. Don’t use metal tools on the glass or it’s direct fixtures as cracking, fracturing or breakages will result. I wouldn’t use a steel ruler near the window to clean it as it it could easily penetrate the cleaner cloth or material used to bind it. Those doors are awkward and dependent on the state of your oven, you may need to place a protective covering on the floor in front of it before starting to disrupt any of the fixtures/hinges.
Thanks for this video! You gave good instructions and showed the best camera angles! I've struggled with doing this in the past (and took it apart with no idea how to reassemble it. Luckily my hubby got it back together.)

I have the same issue with drips between the inner glass on a GE oven. Will use my phone camera to take photos as I go. Suggest using light pieces of cardboard and punch screws through it to keep each section’s hardware together or , possibly baggies. The third pane makes the oven more energy efficient , but not perfectly sealed for preventing drips.
@@dale3404 Yes. I did too ! Thank goodness we have our phones now to do that. I have a funny story about taking something apart and putting it back together. I taught fourth grade for 30 years. I had to take apart an overhead projector to clean the two pieces of glass and change a bulb and remove a bunch of dust and a few bugs. I took it apart, cleaned everything and put it back together. Turned it on and it worked great. About that time my principal came in and checked on my progress. I proudly showed him the newly cleaned and working projector. And I raised a baggie from the desk and said “ I even have some left over parts!” We had a good laugh after he got over his shock. At least it worked. I don’t know what the extra parts were for to this day! 🤔🤔🤔😁😁😁
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video! That was a piece of heat resistant fabric that was laying around the perimeter of the outer window on my oven model and not attached. It gets sandwiched between the outer window and the inner frame. My apologies the edit did not show it as well as it could have.
I need to do this to my oven. From watching the video though, I suddenly like the rustic look. When I remove screws from assemblies like this, I store the screws in the holes from which I removed them. Especially when it involves screws of differing sizes. When I work with loose glass panes, I wear gloves, in case the glass slides, I don't get cut; and, I don't leave fingerprints when I handle the clean glass.
I’d probably have to buy a new oven. I used to pull the door off to replace the heating element when I was an apartment manager. But they pulled off without any trouble. Thank you for this information.
Great idea dummy me did`nt think of some thing like that even though the stove instructions say be careful when cleaning as to not let fluids go down the vent slots in the top of the door.
I really want my oven glass to be clean.... I can't even see through it right now.... but I'm scared I won't be able to reassemble the door once I take it apart! Any tips for making sure I can reassemble it? You did it so easily, and it looks great! :)
I am with you! Using the yardstick method I mentioned at the beginning was going to take too much time and frankly I was not sure it would get everything - like you I really wanted it to be clean! Best advice is to take your time and take pictures of the inside as you are taking it apart to make sure you see where everything goes. Once inside, it was pretty easy to make sense of how everything goes back together. When you are taking the screws out, I placed them around the outside of the door near where I took them out. When you assemble it back together, make sure all of the holes line up. I found clorox wipes worked excellent to get the glass clean and then just follow up with glass cleaner and you will be in good shape! Good luck and let me know how it turns out!
Easiest tip for anybody taking anything apart and wanting it to go back together : Use your phones camera, take pictures at every step. Another trick is to use butchers paper (Xmas paper works too, just flip it to the blank side). Draw the item, showing where each screw goes. As you remove a part place it on the full size drawing. (Your drawing doesn’t have to be very artistic, just enough for YOU to recognize the part.). I’d even number th3 parts as you take them off. 1 for the first part 2 for the second. Don’t use 1 number for parts even if they are the same, number them in the order you removed them. Good luck. (When my sons got into R/C cars, this is how we educated ourselves about them.)
Guarantee it wont be that easy I've tried crazy stuff like this, that was at least a dozen screws on 3 different panels shoot it would never go back right. Just my opinion. Also with stopping the video who knows how long this really took I bet at least 3 or 4 hours. I would be thrown the glass out the back door after hour 2. Lol
Never ever, I would drop the glass, drop the screws. No no no, removing the door will do. I can then stuff a wet cloth between the layers and work on it that way. But great presentation so thank you for your effort.
With the removal of the first screw, I'm already imagining how I'd need to label each screw and take pics for reassembly. Why do they even put windows in oven doors? Does anyone ever look in the window to check on their food?
Just passing on something I learned from a repair man. You should never line your oven or burner with tin foil. The tin foil actually causes too much heat & ruins the coils, & could potentially cause a fire.
First off, I'm lousy at putting things back the way I take them apart. Second, I would break, chip, and/or crack all three panes of glass. Sorry, not in my skill level...but a great video nonetheless.
So impressed and high five!!! For me I will buy a new one and just cut to the chase because in the end I will either break the glass or never get it put back together 🤣
@@ThatDadMike you’re most welcome and loved seeing how this can be done. Wish I had your skill set!! Keep up the good work and thank you again for sharing this with us all.
I am glad to know how to clean this! it bugs me to no end...this is too hard..lol i wonder if a steamer could work better where he used the ruler..would be very messy
He Seems To Have MISSED A Step . When Re-Assembling He Put In Some Sort Of Cloth Ring Around The Rim Of The Glass. Never Saw Him Take One Off & What Is It Made Of ???
I used clorox wipes to clean the grease off the glass and then followed up with glass cleaner. It worked out great! For the screws, I put them around the perimeter of the door near where I took each one out.
How come you are putting in what looks like cotton batting between the bottom layer of glass & second layer of glass? It wasn't there when you took it apart. Is it flame/heat resistant & what is it's purpose? Taking the door off would also make it easier to reach all the way into the back to clean the oven.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. The batting is heat batting that was already in the oven door and l am just placing it back where it was. Apologies my edit did not capture it's removal as well as it should have.
This video is months old when I am posting this, but what was the white stuff you stuck in the door before you put it back together? It looked like paper towels and I wondered if they would catch on fire. What does it help to do this?
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video! My Whirlpool Gold oven had an insulation type of material that was laying around the door glass that gets sandwiched between the outer door and internal frame as shown in the video. Unfortunately my editing did not clearly depict its removal.
I did this today with the help of my brother, and it wasnt easy at all. Got to clean 6 sides of glass to clean and there were two that I didnt get . Was thinking wonder how much it would cost to replace the glass if you dropped it?
Thank you so much! Great question. The warranty on my Whirlpool had expired. The factory only provided a 1 year warranty from date of purchase and was limited to defects in materials and workmanship from the factory (receipt required). If yours is still under warranty, it's worth a call to your oven manufacturer to be sure but my paperwork did not expressly state that it would void the warranty and they publish instructions on how to remove the door on their website.
Okay, love your video and will do that with mine soon but an aside here, have you thought about having your wedding ring resized? It appears to be very tight and will be much more difficult to remove later....hate to see you have to cut it off someday!
Very informative and thank you very much! But our luck, 3 weeks later we have to call 911 cause there was an implosion in our oven due to not putting that cloth insulation back properly which left the glass more vulnerable to heat seapage (I just made that up). And my entire kitchen blew up.
😱 Thanks for the video! It looks great! I know never to try this myself! Now if Someone can tell me how to just get the grease off the inside of the door. I’ve tried everything in mine won’t come off!
Use glass cook top cleaner. I have a glass cook top so that’s what I use. Purchase the scratch resistant pads to use with it so you don’t scratch the glass.
Thanks for that info!!! I’m not sure I would get it back together ! Lol But I would definitely give it a try. Wonder why they don’t seal them so this doesn’t happen
I’m fortunate in that my oven door has a black front so the glass window does show until I turn the light on. Yay me! Sidebar, I only bake Christmas cookies so I don’t have a dirty oven LOL

Very informative. Am I missing something, I see a cotton gasket in the reassembly but did not see it in the disassembly. How did I miss it?
It is wonderful to learn how to do this type of cleaning. Thank You
I thought the dirty glass was like seasoning the oven just like cast iron skillet. Probably best I continue to think that!😁
thanks! great tutorial ! so worth the work to have clean oven glass!
Thanks for this video. I knew it would be a big project. All that glass. Can't wait to get it all clean.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video! Just take your time and you will do great! The results were so worth it!
I am truly impressed! 👍🏼 If I did it...I wouldn’t be.😆
Really good job.. I’m impressed.
Thank you for sharing this! I didn’t know you could do this . I would never try it I would never get it back right. Lol
You lost me in the first 3 seconds... watching you remove the door. That's just not going to happen in my house, LOL! Thanks anyway!
Same here, thought this is my Sunday sorted. Then he said, remove the door. Just no.
Oh so there is hope. Thanks for sharing.
I do not want to get messed with oven door lol. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Easiest tip for anybody taking anything apart and wanting it to go back together :
Use your phones camera, take pictures at every step.
Lol
Is it okay if you have some parts left over afterwards?
Never ever, I would drop the glass, drop the screws. No no no, removing the door will do. I can then stuff a wet cloth between the layers and work on it that way. But great presentation so thank you for your effort.
Hi that dad Mike remind me those type of ovens great 👍 video my friend ❤️🇬🇧👍David
Thank you so much!
With the removal of the first screw, I'm already imagining how I'd need to label each screw and take pics for reassembly. Why do they even put windows in oven doors? Does anyone ever look in the window to check on their food?
I would have drawn a map.
Exactly, labeling is required.
Nice job. Seems your wife is a lucky woman to have you!
You are impressive! I thought for sure one of the glass windows were going to break.
Just passing on something I learned from a repair man. You should never line your oven or burner with tin foil. The tin foil actually causes too much heat & ruins the coils, & could potentially cause a fire.
Thank you, I appreciate that! We removed the foil and no longer use it to line the bottom of the oven.
Well done ! Brilliant
Thank you so much for the kind words and taking the time to comment!
@@ThatDadMike you’re most welcome and loved seeing how this can be done. Wish I had your skill set!! Keep up the good work and thank you again for sharing this with us all.
Do you have another one of these videos for people whose oven doors do NOT have screws?
Thanks for watching the video! Unfortunately I do not have another video of one without screws.
@@ThatDadMike bummer. Mine really needs help!
I am glad to know how to clean this! it bugs me to no end...this is too hard..lol
i wonder if a steamer could work better where he used the ruler..would be very messy
He Seems To Have MISSED A Step . When Re-Assembling He Put In Some Sort Of Cloth Ring Around The Rim Of The Glass. Never Saw Him Take One Off & What Is It Made Of ???
Hey that's a brilliant idea, thanx! I've got a steamer so I'm going to try that
My oven door just has clips at the top and once released you can lift out each layer of glass. So easy.
Wow! I wish they were all that easy!
On my oven (Stove) you can simply slide the inner glass out, clean the inner and outer and slide it back. No screws or dismantling.
Hope you rememberr where all them skews go so what did you clean it with after all that
I used clorox wipes to clean the grease off the glass and then followed up with glass cleaner.
I’ve done mine this way for years.
Wow. I had a good dad, but not this good!
Great job!
Good job you’re hired😊
I did this today with the help of my brother, and it wasnt easy at all. Got to clean 6 sides of glass to clean and there were two that I didnt get
. Was thinking wonder how much it would cost to replace the glass if you dropped it?
Wow, 6 sides and still more - that's a lot!
Check out the kitchens in a restaurant some time, like the ovens, sheet pans, cooking pans et al. Keeping them "like new" certainly is not priority.
Nice job, what a difference! Does this void the Warranty?
Thank you so much! Great question. The warranty on my Whirlpool had expired. The factory only provided a 1 year warranty from date of purchase and was limited to defects in materials and workmanship from the factory (receipt required). If yours is still under warranty, it's worth a call to your oven manufacturer to be sure but my paperwork did not expressly state that it would void the warranty and they publish instructions on how to remove the door on their website.
@@ThatDadMike I'll do that. Thanks.
Okay, love your video and will do that with mine soon but an aside here, have you thought about having your wedding ring resized? It appears to be very tight and will be much more difficult to remove later....hate to see you have to cut it off someday!
I want to do this but I don’t think I can put all the pieces back together
Wow! Didn’t know you could do that!
I THINK I WILL LEAVE MY ROSE!! COLORED!! GLASSES !! ON!!..DANG TO MUCH WORK!! I WOULD NEVER DO IT RIGHT LOL!!..BUT GOOD JOB GUY!! LATERZZZ!!
Excellent job 👌👍
@@debsouthworth4327 Thanks! I will try that 🤗
Very interesting, never knew it could be cleaned, but wwaaayyy too scary taking it apart!
But I subcribed just in case someone ever asks, lol.
Thanks for that info!!! I’m not sure I would get it back together ! Lol
But I would definitely give it a try. Wonder why they don’t seal them so this doesn’t happen
I would need to hire someone to do this for me! Lol.
I’m fortunate in that my oven door has a black front so the glass window does show until I turn the light on. Yay me! Sidebar, I only bake Christmas cookies so I don’t have a dirty oven LOL
Thanks Dad!
Great job 👍👏
The ovens in Europe are much more easier to take apart and clean without any screws
There’s a whole lot of life easier in Europe….I might have to move soon
