Coil Like? First Ride on the NEW Rockshox Vivid

- Typical Sydney weather! I got a new shock and then it rained for two weeks. Finally the tracks were dry enough to try out the new vivid, which I ordered back when I got my Megatower. I've been very happy with the coil so it will be interesting to see how this compares, but I think it's good to have an air option for jumps and racing.

Let me know if you've tried the Vivid and what you think of it. I've had a couple more rides on it since filming this but the impressions are largely the same. It is the most coil like air shock I've ever tried, but it's missing a bit of that poppy air nature, at least for now. Hope you enjoy the video and thanks to all the trail fairies for tuning up the trails since the rain 🙌
I also have a Vivid air on a Megatower. I agree with you that it is very coil like and not at poppy at a normal air shock, though I would say that it is not as "dead" feeling as a coil either.
I've been running thr vivid on my canyon strive for a few months now and loving it. I do have an intense tracer s either the ohlins rear shock love that aswell. Am interested to know what psi you running for your weight.im 82kg running 245 psi.
I changed from Air X2 in my Firebird to one of these as we discussed, it feels so MUCH better! Smooth as, plush as...Better than a coil agreed! Finally my Firebird feels amazing
I can see how Vivid and DW would be a good match!
Did it fit ? Seen videos and pictures that is a super tight fit. Waiting for my Firebird to be delivered but couldn't resist in the meantime to a great offer for a new DHX2 as the stock Float X I don't think it does this bike a justice as it doesn't even come with a LSC dial (hence it can be bought separately but still) . By the way did you try a Coil besides the X2 ?
@@Bogdan_Ch not sure from the FB reference if you're asking me or Mike, but it does fit the MT just fine - no tighter than the X2. I have tested the DHX2 and have run the SD Coil exclusively for about the last 6 months.
@@MTBMcPhee is for Mike as he's on a firebird. I was with intentions on the MT2 just that I felt the XL was just to large for my height 183 cm, even though I know it feels fine for you.
I love my firebird even with the X2. but to be fair, i have only ridden it on the trail two days. and before that, i had to send in the x2 already for warranty. got a 24 model back though which feels amazing! which fork do you combine this with?
sick riding!!! those are some tight trails!!!
Where about are these trails they look really cool
I'm wanting to know the same thing - says Sydney in the description but there is a lot around.
My Santa Cruz came with bearings on the eyelid. But the Vivid has regular hole for spacer. How did you install Vivid?
Rockshox have separate part numbers for the shocks with bearing eyelet, which is what my Vivid is. You can also use the press in hardware from Fox with the standard eyelet version.
@@MTBMcPhee so you don’t have to use the bearing version on the Santa Cruz? I have a 230x62.5 but non bearing version.
@@ebikesandthings I have the standard version SD which I just pulled the hardware out of the X2 to use
@@MTBMcPhee oh ok. I just ordered two 8x30 bussing kits.
Great riding on great trails! I assume this was this Sunday just gone? I would've joined you and Mark but for my knee issue.Love those trails & I need to get back over there soon 🤘
No this was earlier. The carnage from Sunday will be coming soon 😂 Hope the leg is feeling better
@@MTBMcPhee Yeah good enough to ride this Saturday
Fub lookong trails! Able to share the names of them?
Hey man - Gotta ask you, since you seem to have quite some time under your belt with the megatower. Any issues with the bike? Anything to complain about, or potential buyers should know about?
Recently sold my stumpy evo, because I want something abit burlier. Its between the Megatower, Yeti SB160 and Ibis HD6 at the moment. Leaning mostly towards a Megatower because of geometry/reach numbers, almost identical to the stumpy evo. So the sizing is just right. But would be fun to hear your thoughts.
Would be starting from a framekit, with RS coil
Also - How are you liking the mavens? I’ve heard different opinions on them, hard to pull the lever etc
@@Doggepp I’m still really loving the Mega and I expect to be riding it for many seasons. It’s incredibly capable as you’d expect, but it’s very easy to pedal and generally live with. I’m sure both those other bikes would also be great, but personally the low stack height is a deal breaker.
I’ve found the mavens excellent as well. I’m ~90kgs so I’m used to having to pull the levers pretty hard to stop, even though the spring is firmer than shimano they need less of a pull to haul up, so I haven’t felt an increase in hand pump.
Hello, would you mind sharing your setup? LSC; HSC; HBO?
@@CPG853 -1 from middle on both compressions, one click of HBO, and one token 😉
Correct me if i'm wrong but i thought air shocks pedaling better was a bit of a myth. i thought it was just extra friction in the seals and that you can replicate that function in a coil by adding low speed compression. Maybe i'm wrong.
You can, but then you give up performance elsewhere. The vivid feels slightly more damped than the sd coil which also helps.
@@MTBMcPhee cool thanks
Vivid Moount on heckler standard ? (Not SL) ?
@@marccourtebras I’m not sure if it fits the heckler sorry, only have it on the Mega
@@MTBMcPhee Thanks 👍
How many token in the negative chamber ?
None in the negative. I'm running it standard now after some experimentation, with 2 positive spacers and the travel reducer fitted.
@@MTBMcPhee I mean bottomless spacer * so you have 2 bottomless spacer (black one ) ?
@@heliceur yes correct two tokens
@@MTBMcPhee okay thanks ! And what’s your setting with the 2 tokens. ?
@@heliceur -1 from middle on both compressions, -7 from closed rebound, 220 psi, 1 click of HBO. I’m ~90kg
