The late 80's- early 1990 ish I worked on a Subaru Commercial for a Japanese Company starring Rod Stewart and he showed up 2 hrs late in his Lamborghini Countach which he drove right onto the set of the commercial and parked his Countach just beyond the Subaru. The Director got out of his chair and went to greet Rod and basically started describing the shot to him and letting him know that we are all ready to go and that all we need to do is move the Lamborghini out of the shot and we can then start rolling the camera. Rod looked at the Director and said, " The car stays, Mate." The Director chuckled and said, " British Humor gets me every time..." Rod looked at him straight-faced and reiterated " The car stays." The look on the Director's face was spectacular, half realizing that Rod was deadly serious. For a brief moment the Director tried to make sense of the situation by saying, " Ahh, we can't, ahh we definitely can't have a Lamborghini in a Subaru Commercial, nobody would look at the Subaru with that in the shot..." Rod just walked away saying, " Not my problem, Mate." The Cinematographer joined the Director and heard the bad news and that guy went apeshit. We were shooting in Will Roger's State Park near Malibu, CA. overlooking a polo field with an incredible vista, the shot was all dialed in and here in the middle of the shot sat Rod's car. After another failed attempt to get Rod to move his car the Set Dressers got together with the Greensman and created a six foot hedge to block the car and with it half the polo field got obscured. I was a young Sound Person on the show, for me to watch this lunacy unfold was beyond entertaining. The DP was such a sweet guy and to watch how upset he was, was heartbreaking. Hi Jay.I absolutely Love your Garage Channel! When I lived in Germany from 1980-88, I was in the USAF but of course being a former US muscle car owner, got bitten by the european engineered autos. I was a USAF Jet Engine Mechanic Initially while in Germany in the USAF, working on the McDonnell Douglas RF-4C Phantom Aircraft. I eventually transitioned out of the USAF and went to work for the Lockheed corporation at Bitburg AB Germany. I was an instructor on the F-15 fighter aircraft, training USAF mechanics. FOr my first year or so I was commuting back and forth to Bitburg from the village we were living in, Kleinsteinhausen. This was my daily drive and it was about 150 Km (Almost 100 miles)each way. I loved this drive. It was mostly Autobahn but my favorite part of the ride as the last leg, when I would get off the Autobahn and drive the backroads to Bitburg. Scenic through the woods on perfectly paved roads. My commuter car was a BMW 323i. I loved that ride! Anyways, one day I was riding to work and I was on the Autobahn cruising at about 160 Km's ( 100 Mph) . I was in the far left lane passing the "slower" traffic when out of nowhere I saw a set of flashing lights in my rear view mirror. Back int eh day on the Autobahn when a driver flashed is lights, it was there way of saying"Move over, I want to pass you!". So I moved over to the cruising lane. As soon as I moved over, the car flashing is headlights passed me. It was a Canary Yellow Countach LP5000 QV! It was cruising at 100 Mph but then started to accelerate because how on it's tail was a Red Countach LP5000 QV ! They were racing! Of course I was blown away! Living in Germany for almost 8 years, you see pretty much all of the hot cars, especially the exotics. But this was a very special day :)
Its awesome to see Jay in the car scene. I never was a big Leno fan. I didnt dislike him, i just never got into late night tv. But now im a Leno fan. He is doing with his money what any of us crazy car guys would be doin. And he lets us in. Its cool. Kudos Jay ur a true car guy.
Thank you Jay Leno!!! By the way Im 55 years old and I told my co-workers that you would pick me up in your Lambo after I get off from work this week!! I dont want them to think that Im a liar so.......
I remember reading the reviews when the Countach was first produced. The technological leap was the tires, the Pirelli P7s, and the car was designed around the tires. I think Jay underplayed the strong suit of the Countach that would have been its handling. When talking about its relative speed in relation to a Corvette it needs to be remembered that the Corvette would fall behind at the first bend.
I had a '86 Ninja 1000 and I passed one of these by Bragg Creek, Alberta. Two things I'll never forget. a) Seeing one in real life was just amazing!! and 2) looking way down into the "cockpit"! It was so low compared to the bike. Just amazing at the time. Great vid!!
Beautiful, beautiful car. I've only ever seen a yellow one in the flesh, about 25 years ago. I don't normally write comments, but what a channel this is. Jay Leno's knowledge and enthusiasm for all of his cars, is so infectious. I've created sections now in my toy corgi car garage!
A guy up my street had one of these when I was a kid. Every Saturday we'd hear him start it up and run out to the curb to check it out. Pretty awesome car!
Love this car.. Simple and direct of what it is: an exotic real man's super sports car. Besides the electronic ignition Jay installed, there is no computer gizmo of any kind, which I hate in today's cars. While other modern super car lovers laugh at this 'outdated caveman's sports car', the joke's on them when their cars gets hacked and you just continue blazing on, having them eat your dust.
Still my Favorite lambo! If I ever come into serious money you can bet the ranch there will be one of these in my garage. "If you buy this car you're speedin!" I love it!
The reason the Countach is the most exotic & coolest looking of cars is because of the design. The designer saw how 'bubble like' cars were getting in the 60s & hated it. So he went the complete opposite of bubble & started thinking geometric shapes. He settled on the trapezoid as his artistic inspiration. Next time u REALLY look at a Countach, look at all the trapezoidal designs of the car. Its trapezoidal from the top, side, front & rear. Then look and admire all the smaller trapezoidal details of the car. It was a brilliant concept. Back then artists/designers really had to think & be creative, AND actually draw sketches. Now they use computers & u see all these new autos with all the same "smooth lines." That's b.s. talk for using zero imagination & 100% high tech computer graphic design. All these vehicles today look the same. Even the expensive cars all look the same. Years ago you could tell a Honda from a Toyota & a Mercedes from a Maserati. Not today however.
@@flaccidego9468 Lol Yeah, rounded may offer bonuses but I prefer the angular looks. That new Venteno looks like a 12 edge razor blade coming down the street, very sweet ride, and now they are making a new Countach haven't seen it live yet but hope to.
Loved the Contach as a kid in the 80s, looked so futuristic back then, still does in my opinion. Still love this car, amazing considering the design is 50 years old now!
libertyn jeopardy yes indeed. also, there must be some serious maintenance involved in keeping that collection going well. are there many people involved in this ?
Enjoyed the video. Yes, that car was on every young guy’s radar in the ‘80’s. Oh, and that good deed you did for that kid. That brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. I always knew you were a good guy, Jay.. 👍
I think I've seen this video 10 times now, I have the Countach as a screen saver, right now I'm hanging on to the closest thing to it in my budget, a 1986 MR2, I love the story where Jay describes how he first arrived in LA and seen one for the first time in person, it was Rod Stewart's, and Jay had no money at the time. Wow the American dreamer making it big time and getting what ever car he wants, Jay is one of my role models
Though when Clarkson did a review of this car he considered it like the equivalent of looking at an Elephant xD. The only thing is when parallel parking is u need to do it with half ur body out the car since the visibility out the rear is quite bad.
I think jay ultimately felt for the kid. We have all been there...well maybe not "jay leno is my uncle". But most people have told a lie when put on the spot that got out of hand.
I hope that's a true story though. Jay's a pretty stand-up guy though I think he would do something like that he doesn't seem like one of those arrogant Hollywood types
I'm 47 and yes, I had the poster of one on my wall in '86. The story about dropping the child off at school had my smile at the biggest smile this week. Good on ya Jay. :-D
I love this channel!! No matter whats going on for me, I come back to this channel and have a smile on my face. I love the genuine enthusiasm and the geeky little known facts that only a real car geek would know. Many thanks Jay Leno
Seth Forbus I feel you, but Lambo has raised their game so much since they produced this one it's cool, but doesn't have that "look" of modern Lambo's, not to mention the technology. But even now it would still be a head turner
bbigrocker1 Walter Payton was a neighbor of mine growing up. He was outside with his kids all the time. The Lambo had personalized plates. I saw him in traffic court with a Ferrari Testarossa. Then saw him in a viper at a gas station and waved hello and he waved back. He past away a few months later. Awesome guy and different times.
thomascampr Must have been nice. Yeah, they don't seem to make people like that anymore. So much discord and strife these days. Yeah, it was a different time
The coolest car of all times, If you ask me...always had a picture of this one(And a Vector v2) on my wall as a teen, and I still think this is the way a race car should look. The Lambhorgini's of today are pretty awsome too but they kind of look like this one if you over-inflated it. I like the original angles - it's almost as the first stealth planes. Should have a wing though.
I just realised I have a Marcello Gandini section in my garage! Complete with an old beat up Citroen BX. No Lamborghinis, though. Not even the farming type. There was a tale of the day when Ferruchio Lamborghini met Enzo Ferrari to complain about the clutch of Ferruchio's Ferrari, and Ferrari dismissed him as being a farmer and knowing nothing about cars. Then Ferruchio told Enzo he would show him how to make real cars, and started the car business along with the tractors and farming machinery. Lovely.

Jay is awesome! He's a nice, good, humble guy.
Tell that to Conan O'Brien.
Doug Magee
Conan is a jerk!!
duckman195 conans cool. lettermans a prick.
"We're in the lamborghini section of my garage." Life goals right there
Hahah I love the burnout, and in classic Jay Leno style: leaves a turn signal on. Perfect.
Thanks for the burn-out at the end, Jay!
Jay is such a class act. what a decent humble man he is.
"You wouldnt think you can use something like this every day" but actually you can if you are Jay Leno.
He's got a full-time staff for his garage.
Thank you Jay Leno!!!
By the way Im 55 years old and I told my co-workers that you would pick me up in your Lambo after I get off from work this week!!
I dont want them to think that Im a liar so.......
I'm 28, and I had this car everywhere when I was a kid. I have a 1/18 model now. Its my second favorite Lambo, though I prefer it with the wing.
I Love the Lamborghini Countach ❤
I had a '86 Ninja 1000 and I passed one of these by Bragg Creek, Alberta. Two things I'll never forget. a) Seeing one in real life was just amazing!! and 2) looking way down into the "cockpit"! It was so low compared to the bike. Just amazing at the time. Great vid!!
Jay Leno is such a good guy! Really down to earth… It’s like if you met him at the supermarket he would be your friend forever
Jay you did a great thing when you dropped that kid off at school...you earned your wings that day buddy!
I thought that was awesome too!
I'm 48, an 80s child, and this car I adored.
A guy up my street had one of these when I was a kid. Every Saturday we'd hear him start it up and run out to the curb to check it out. Pretty awesome car!
WOW, this was 9 years ago... Time sure does fly. I really like the early episodes and this one is one of my fav.
Story with the little kid - priceless.
Definitely our dream car in the 80's. Jays insights are awesome and the fact that it is totally archaic in its mechanical specs is really noteworthy.
"But hey, beats walkin" Gets me every time
Loved the Contach as a kid in the 80s, looked so futuristic back then, still does in my opinion. Still love this car, amazing considering the design is 50 years old now!
"Welcome to the Lamborghini-section of my garage...."I just love that..
Jay is smart enough to know that he only owns the cars for a short time and that life is short so he enjoys them.
libertyn jeopardy h
Exactly.
You can't bring them with you.
He's also goes that extra mile & shares them with us.
Oh bless him, what a hero
libertyn jeopardy
yes indeed.
also, there must be some serious maintenance involved in keeping that collection going well.
are there many people involved in this ?
This is one of the cars that defines the 80's to me.
So Clarkson was in charge of the safety I guess...
Though when Clarkson did a review of this car he considered it like the equivalent of looking at an Elephant xD.
The only thing is when parallel parking is u need to do it with half ur body out the car since the visibility out the rear is quite bad.
that's Jeremy Clarkson for ya.....
@@malevolenceXXXensues *Jezza
Yeah, the only tool Clarkson ever uses is a hammer, but he managed to get an honorary doctorate in engineering.
I remember I had a poster that had a countach, a porche 929, and a ferrari.. and it said "Decisions.... Decisions... Decisions..."
Haha..
Jay is a humble, respectable, funny and knowledgeable car collector.
Of all his videos, this is still one of my favorites.
Huge respect to Jay for driving a child to school. That was awesome.
Thank you Jay Leno for always sharing your cars with us. I appreciate you.
Always a favorite, only gained more after Cannon Ball Run. Who could forget that opening of the movie..
"Please drop me off so my friends don't think I'm a liar" said Billy the Liar.
Yeah, he doesn't have friends
He definitely has a story for life. And Jay also has one.
I think jay ultimately felt for the kid. We have all been there...well maybe not "jay leno is my uncle". But most people have told a lie when put on the spot that got out of hand.
I'm sure the kid still tells that story.
I hope that's a true story though. Jay's a pretty stand-up guy though I think he would do something like that he doesn't seem like one of those arrogant Hollywood types
@@nunya2779 I strongly suspect that he would never have told it if it wasn't true.
The iconic shape that never goes out of style. Thanks for keeping it real, Jay! 👍🏼
I'm 47 and yes, I had the poster of one on my wall in '86. The story about dropping the child off at school had my smile at the biggest smile this week. Good on ya Jay. :-D
My "Lamborghini section" contains one Lamborghini...and it's a Matchbox car.
MourningBreakfast These two cars around Countach are Lambo's too, so there's at least 3.
MourningBreakfast I got three Lamborghini in my "Lamborghini section"! One is RC car. :)
***** I'm just jealous that I don't even have ONE to add to my collection.
MourningBreakfast i have you beat there i have Hotwheel versions too lol
Just AGuy I was going to joke that his collection would have 2 but Hotwheels doesn't make one. I glad I read you comment before I made myself a dumbie
"That spells prison". Gotta love this guy
The most beautiful car ever made. Love those angles!
I love this channel!! No matter whats going on for me, I come back to this channel and have a smile on my face. I love the genuine enthusiasm and the geeky little known facts that only a real car geek would know. Many thanks Jay Leno
7:55. "Doing damage from lack of lubrication." I know what you mean, Jay.
Yep big damage to your thruster!.....LoL
Lol
You wish buddy, and so do I :*(
It's still one of the most beautiful cars ever built. I wish they were that exciting today.
Jay,
you are the coolest and most down to earth person I never met. Love the videos keep up the good work.
The story about his 12-year-old "nephew" Billy was CLASSIC. Not surprised at all that Jay played along....he would never let a good con go to waste.
I agree you: this is my favourite Countach version. And it sounds great!!!!
A hammer under the seat as a safety feature.....LOL
i remember when this car first came out, Walter Peyton of the Chicago Bears had one. It used to be the rage of car fantasies.
bbigrocker1 It still is for me! I'd totally rock this car.
The good deed for the day made my day...he made someone else's dream come true by simply giving a ride for someone.... Class act.
the countach is so 80s it hurts.
But it hurts so good
It's as 80's as Miami Vice and Cocaine.
yet it was released in 1974 (Lp400)
I just realised I have a Marcello Gandini section in my garage! Complete with an old beat up Citroen BX. No Lamborghinis, though. Not even the farming type.
There was a tale of the day when Ferruchio Lamborghini met Enzo Ferrari to complain about the clutch of Ferruchio's Ferrari, and Ferrari dismissed him as being a farmer and knowing nothing about cars. Then Ferruchio told Enzo he would show him how to make real cars, and started the car business along with the tractors and farming machinery. Lovely.
Thanks for sharing your garage Jay. Amazing collection. I beg to differ... the wing is quintessential 80s and a 5k add on. Yes I had posters!
The tail cost 1k more than a Yugo
Always wished I could meet Mr Leno. Seems like a real down to earth person..
"I've got a flock of seagulls concert to go to" *thinks* "i runnn, i run so far aweaaayyyy"
No electronics on the car? Now I want one even more than I did as a kid in the 80s.
"should I burn to death or spring for the 5 grand?"
I lol'd
This was my dream car when I was growing up in the '90s and early '00s.
"While it's as clean as I can get it, I use this car a lot."
I hate/love you, Jay Leno.
Its like showroom condition
I laughed so hard: I'm 43 and I DID have a poster of this car on my wall as a teenager! Love it!
42 here and I had the big poster with the black Lam on the grass.
I am 32, and I still have a poster of a countach.....
Same here. I think I got it at Spencer. 41.
Dave Schewe Dido on Spencer's, that where I got mine. 42
'...the lamborghini section of my garage.' How many people can say that? :)
Priceless. Nobody delivers passion for automotive history like Jay.
Still quite gorgeous! I used to have a massive poster on my wall of one of these back in 1987 (Test Drive by Electronic Arts!)
Woaaa. Test Drive. Just insta transported me back to my mates dining room in about 1989.
I just thought of it when Leno pulled out the radar detector. The whole game on real life.
@@Seaby41 Used to play it on the Amiga. The graphics blew me away when I first saw it!
