  • A Harry's garage video special on what makes a 1987 Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalve special. Also includes a history on the Countach and driving impressions gained after four years and 18,000km of ownership. Video brought to you in association with www.footmanjames.co.uk
    Since filming this video, I've been sent new info regarding the total number of fuel-injected Countach QV built, which I've quoted below. Turns out the mix is not 50:50 FI/carb I quoted in the video after all. My thanks to Joe Sackey for sending me the following information.
    "Out of the 610 QVs built between 1985 and 1988, approximately 220 were FI cars, with 80% of those coming to the USA. Of the 657 25th Anniversarios built between 1988 and 1990, we know about 200 were FI cars, with 187 of those coming to the USA".

    I'm 54 now. Since I was a kid, about 85 or so I put a poster on my bedroom wall of a red Countach. Side profile. That poster is still there . LOVE YOUR COUNTACH.

    I like the way Mr. Harry has presented this documentary. With small simple details and of-course personal touches here and there has kept this presentation interesting. He has managed to give all the details that are generally beyond the usual: Top speed, BHP, Torque, 0-62 MPH so on and so forth. Another interesting fact is that he showed how does the boot and the bonnet open's up (the latch/lock). Also the fact that the frontal cosmetic air vents are a problem during monsoon. The care required to wash car that might end up wetting the computer unit.
    Thank you for the documentary on one of the most popular pin up cars. I had this on my wall in deep Purple colour. I still feel she is one of the most futuristic looking cars for years to come.

    When you hear one, in person, for the first time, it changes you. You crave to hear it more and more. It doesn't just stir your soul, it takes it out, shakes it up, slaps it around, has a go at the naughty parts, then leaves you a broken mess of sweat, snot, and slobber. I have known women who had the same effect on me, but none who spoke Italian.

    The Countach was and still is the "Dream Car" par excellence . Few lucky ones have the pleasure to own and drive one.
    While I was enjoying this video a sentimental yearning of that happiness was overwhelming me, I remember back in those young years in Zurich, a friend owned a Lamborghini Countach in a special VenenumGreen colour with race exaust, every week the Police stopped him for a fine (he got used to it)... when we drove in summer, we left the doors open when starting, waited 1/4 of an hour to warm the engine up and then while accelerating til 120 the doors closed due to airpressure :), the needle went from approx. 8000rpm to 6000rpm in every gear change.
    After so many years, I can still feel, live the tremendous sound, the cribbling in the veins, the excitement.
    Excellent video Mr. Gentleman.

      Thanks for watching. The link between Countach and X1-9 is they were both designed by the same designer at Bertone, chap called Marcello Gandini. Hence why both cars share several similarities beyond the wedge shape, including the boot release lever and some of the switch gear on the dash

    Learned a lot about the Countach watching this, but the owners pure delight at looking, touching and driving his car was brilliant. You can just see his soul awaken with pleasure from the moment he takes it out of the garage. Well done Harry. :)

    That car is so freakin awesome even to this day, the wide tires are my favorite part but the design, the intake vents, the doors, the spoiler is just so freakin amazing. I smile every time i see it. I love it.

    Cracking video Harry, the noise is addictive. So refreshing to hear someone who actually owns one saying what a great car it is, to many journalists hate on the Countach when they drive it, but is all about theatre and it delivers in spades. Lovely.

    I must have drawn a thousand of these as a kid, it was my absolute favorite car as an 80s kid. I had the same Lamborghini poster (at the 2:00 mark) along with several others and of course, and a red remote control Lambo. Thanks for the up close and personal share, that equalizer brought back memories of the ones my dad installed in a few of our vehicles, good stuff! I might have to rewatch Cannonball Run soon.

    • @piotrek7972
      @piotrek7972 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, I'm actually curious what you'd do with the punctured tire when you had it replaced with the spare one. It wouldn't fit where the spare is kept, it wouldn't fit into the boot and I quite doubt if it would fit on the passenger seat. You'd need a bloke to drive a van after you just in case you'd puncture a tire.

    • @paradroidandroid

      You see them pictured on open road or in poster against black nothing and there's nothing to compare it to anything and none of the proportions of a Countach make any kind of sense - it looks like a space cruiser. And then at 1:10, if you parked a Lada, the very small VAZ-2101 in front of the Countach, there would basically red bumpers peeking behind the Lada. It's shorter than the Seat Toledo I had was. I mean I know it's a two-seater but it still makes no sense deep in my mind.

    Here's the staying power of this car as an icon: Harry and I were the same age when we first saw this car, except it was 20 years later when I saw it and the thing was STILL capturing kid's imaginations after all that time. I remember being 12 or 13 years old in the early 90s, doodling pictures of a Countach on my Trapper Keeper at school. They were badass back then, they are badass now and they will be badass 20 years from now. Of course, 20 years from now the sale of gasoline powered automobiles will probably be outlawed and perhaps spoken of in near mythical tones so yeah, I will definitely stand by that.

  • @dvamateur

    This is fantastic. Very beautiful design, and definitely not as juvenile like the Aventador. Why don't Lamborghini just reissue the Countach? It's the only Lamborghini that really matters. The Countach and the original Diablo of course. The rest is okay, but not as inspiring.

    • @largol33t1
      @largol33t1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My thoughts too. Why can't they just do a quick run of say 200-300 cars just ONCE. I guarantee you, they'd sell in the blink of an eye. I'd rather drive this than a Ferrari 599 or the ugly Pagani Zonda.

    • @dvamateur
      @dvamateur 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, Volkswagen definitely won't reissue a classic car. Interestingly though, I noticed the Countach commanding near $1,000,000 marks in auctions. Go figure.

    Somewhere on the borders between tarmac scrubbed with 345-width rubber, and grass breathed upon by Countach holy breath, lies rocks streaked with tiny chips of red Italian paint from a screaming work of art. Another amazing video, Harry. Thanks for sharing your magnificent collection with the world.
