TH-cam is full of saddle hunters that gloss over the safety aspect or ignore it completely. Thank you for sharing safety tips. The sport needs a lot more of videos like this.
Man I wish I had found your video before today. I just started saddle hunting and today was my first time ever going up to 20’ up the tree. Coming down the tree was excruciating. It gave me thoughts of giving it up and just hunt from The ground or spend money I don’t have on a climber. But now I can’t wait to get up the tree using my saddle again after watching this. Thanks!
That falling backward thing is a good tip, I thought my bow was plenty far away last time, and I landed and kind of took a step back and tripped over a limb and fell on my bow and broke two of my three arrows Very easily could’ve been a whole lot worse
It says not to tie a knot or attach a mechanical braking device to the braking side of the rope (the tag end). You can use a braking friction hitch above them.
I suggest you check out the Omega Pacific SBG, rig it with a prusik on an 8mn rope, allows for smooth rappelling, provides a backup. I bought it for a backup for the Madrock . Now I prefer it .

The bungee tip will help me out. i don't think i want to climb with my platform hanging off my saddle anymore.
I hang mine on the side of my saddle when I rappel
Great tip! Never too late to share the insight.
I'm thinking when i start one sticking in gonna try a figure 8 and a auto block. If nothing else saving the $100 and not sacrificing safety

The SafeGuard instructions say to not tie on the BRAKING end. You can back it up above it. Just sayin’. Hunt safely my Friends!
Great Video!!
