    I still reference this video after "all" these years. And seriously, hear me out here: Out of all the channels that do small engines, your video has more detail and is constructed better. It's these types of videos that got channels like Red Beard's Garage and "Cars and Cameras" (those goofballs!) started! So, it might even be worth making an EVEN BETTER version of this with more detail but not overwhelming for a new hobbyist. I'm just say'in, it's these videos that got those channels started and your version of the governor delete is way better....

    Thanks! I got the camo model (RT200) last summer right when they came out, $599 + tax shipped free to my local Walmart. But that was 3 weeks after getting a Coleman ct200ex from Tractor Supply for $699. So I promptly cleaned up the 200ex and returned it; nice & broken in, to Tractor supply before the 30 days return date was over. But I changed the oil Immediately after buying it, then once again after an hour of riding (to break it in) but this time used Supertech full synthetic. Thats when I cut off the throttle stop screw cuz they're welded on. So, at least it was properly broke in & did 25 mph for the new owners lol.

      @carlo1132 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you liked the RT200 much more than the CT200ex, I was tempted to get a bt200 or ct200 to go with rt200.

    Even without raising the engine, it's worth ditching the stock air cleaner on the RB200 because of how close it already is. I can't imagine how you'd yank it off with the engine sitting 1" higher.

    So my 196cc in my RB200 blew the metal in head between the valve springs, so I put a 6hp Honda OHC from a frozen power washer. It has 8.9 ft lbs compared to the Predator 8.1 ft lb torque. I'm hoping that will be enough to max out a torque converter pulley when I install one. The good news is those OHC engines are even easier to attatch a torque converter to.

  • @thenexthobby

    I cut my square tubing more like the setup gopowersports sells, where they're used across fronts/backs mounting holes and not left-right mounting holes. I used the tubing's existing hole and opened up another in each case. It was pretty easy to align the chain without having to drill into the bike's engine mounting plate. Chain alignment looks good and does not rub against the torque converter housing.
    The torque converter runs at idle. Wish I new why! Can't start the bike on the ground. On a lift I lowered idle speed a bit but it didn't help. When the front clutch cover is installed it's wobbly, so I temporarily tried it without that cover and was able to start the bike without idle causing the rear tire to spin.
    That is ... until I gave it throttle, and the outside of the belt immediately began to shred. Against what, I have no idea. The pulleys naturally have good alignment because they're bolted to a common plate. And no, I did NOT put the belt on incorrectly. At idle, it once again spins the rear tire. I really wish I knew WTF was going on with this janky setup.

    • @thenexthobby
      @thenexthobby 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the janky setup was my janky setup. I installed the outer pulley sheave of the drive clutch backwards. Why, I have no idea but it might be related to me reading the included directions, which do not show this. Technical writing is an actual profession, and "Calm Max" didn't employ such a person.

  • @Deucealive75
    @Deucealive75 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good video but you tested the final stage of the bike on pavement. All testing should be under the same conditions. The top speeds you got on dirt/gravel may be slightly higher on pavement. And it seemed like you backed off the throttle before it had a chance to reach top speed on the dirt/gravel.
    If your belt didn't shift all the way that's a good thing.

  • @carlo1132
    @carlo1132 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Guess I am a bigger guy at 220lbs 6'5", I got the throttle stop screw back all the way out, moved the governor spring over to the furthest hole on the arm, getting to about 26-27mph. The governor is no longer kicking in, guess I need to do stage 1 and see where I am before pulling trigger on cvt.

    • @megoingfast
      @megoingfast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So I actually have a video that goes over this in more detail (the before you buy the RB200 video), but to summarize I'd go with the BT even though when others come over to ride EVERYONE wants to ride the RB200 style mini bikes and they are more comfortable for longer rides. The BT is more versatile and I studded the tires and use it for ice fishing. With a larger rear rack it's the perfect size to put my auger and bucket and other gear in the back. Not as comfortable, but more rugged.

  • @otm646

    You're forgetting about tuning the rate at which the torque converter expands. If you install lighter weights It will let the motor achieve higher RPMs before expanding a given amount thus pushing you faster.

    • @megoingfast
      @megoingfast  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great note! Awesome catch! I had a VERY brief mention of how I was going to "play with it" in the video BUT 20 minutes long for a video already... Well... hopeful understandable 😉. Tried to keep it just to how to get upgrades in place. 👍

    • @otm646
      @otm646 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@megoingfast tuning the torque converter, coming from a scooter background we call it a variator, is critical. On those smaller 50cc mopeds you really need to maximize RPMs. The same techniques apply here on the larger displacement motors.

    Seems like your the only guy on all of TH-cams who has an RB200 and is doing mods with it. I just purchased one which will be here in a few days. I live in the mountains and hills of North east Pennsylvania and would like to add a torque converter eventually but it seems like it’s going to take a bit more work compared to some other bikes. Is there a better sprocket combination that you would recommend for low end torque and power to rip up hills? Would a stage 1 type set up do much of anything without adding a CVT or removing the governor? I would definitely like to see some more vids with this series of mini bike.

Can you do a video on "tuning" the tq converter with lighter weights as one commenter mentioned? I was thinking the same thing the whole time, that it would go faster if you could somehow change the ratio so it would rev a little higher with the tq converter on there. Also, take off the helmet! Or, the predator engine swap will not need a shaft adapter and is commonly done. The results are all roughly the same for speed and performance increase. The torque converter is the same as well. 👍

    Hi! @megoingfast Great video that goes into extreme detail. Only thing I can't seem to find is the size 38 Jet. Do you have a link to where I can buy it on Amazon?

    • @megoingfast
      @megoingfast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      looks like it's hard to find. Might be sold out. I typically search "predator 38 jet" on amazon and find it. If nothing else, I've bought .38 jets from Childishconcepts.com before. They can drill to any size. Amazon has the 36/37 jet kits. With these combos, if you get the right emulsion tube and up the idle/pilot jet they can work fine as well.

      You would need the filter, adapter with choke lever holder, and depending what fuel type you use and elevation possibly a new jet for the carburetor.

    • @megoingfast
      @megoingfast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, depending what else you do to it. Torque converter makes a difference, gas tank exhaust and air filter all do. There is enough room once the engine gets stripped down a little otherwise it's a very tight fitting frame to work with. Mods are needed to make it work.

    RB200 owner here. Did I hear you say the original chain is about 6 links too short with the torque converter? Is there a way to use some links from the clutch chain I'd no longer be using? Also ... where's a good place to pick up the 38 jet?
    I plan on using the OMB riser, Stage 1 air cleaner etc. I'm not crazy about the large S-shape header however, although I get that's easiest with this style of rear fender coming right up to the rear rack. I'd much rather find a way to use a style that exits from the center instead.

    • @megoingfast
      @megoingfast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for long delays - TH-cam batches what I see in my comments feed... jerks... If you have a link breaker that is also able to smash the pulled pins and a link connector, its possible but I can't recommend it to most people. Yes, the chain will be too short by 6 links. The jet is actually a little low in stock on amazon, but if I don't find them there I just buy one from ChildishConcepts.com website.

    • @thenexthobby
      @thenexthobby 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@megoingfast No worries! For me the original chain length was fine, because I only raised the engine 1" and did not need to move it forward. Made 2 risers from 1" square stock. I only re-adusted the chain tension via the back wheel location a little bit. I mean it was like at most one link too short otherwise, well with the realm of adjustability.
      I'm currently using a .020 secondary, an E140 tube and 34 jet. With stock (.016) secondary and e-tube, a 38 primary was "OK" until the engine got hot and then it ran lean, and ALWAYS ran lean at start and idle. Switching to the E140 was like magic or the midrange and upper end. Pulls like a train there. For me, the large primary helped a little on the low end -- indirectly -- but wasn't the best fix there like the idle jet and etube were.
      Switching to the .020 secondary allowed it to start WITHOUT choke when hot (duh) and cease stalling off-idle but might be a tad rich. Tomorrow I'll try splitting the difference with a .018 secondary. For me, all of this is why the smaller-than 38 primary jet works, and this isn't a high-revving or non-governed build anyway. I'm using a little shorty curved header and RLV Mini 91 muffler. No way to get singed while riding.
      My first setup went straight back, under the seat and nearly burned a hole in the seat (I'd lowered the rear fender to make room.) Bought a Monster Moto 212 seat for less than the Coleman seat and it's unsurprisingly a direct bolt-on.

      The 212's get the edge in torque and HP. One thing I know is that the Hisun 196 is a better quality engine than the old Harbor Freight 196's I have opened. Never opened a 212. I don't think it's worth getting a 212 if you already have a good running 196. Unless you want ride with the 196 while the 212 is being built.

      The short answer is if you're not going to build a 7000 RPM engine do not get a Juggernaut for the torque converter. You don't need it with a stock engine and Coleman gearing as you see in this video.
