I have lived close to and visited Great Yarmouth for most of my life and remember going to most of the attractions and when the waterways had lights featuring nursery rhyme characters on the islands making it a magical place to be for a child in the 50s. This is a great ,comprehensive look at the seafront and I have been very impressed by the good commentary . Thank you!

Went on holiday with my mum and dad every year from the early 60's to 70's,have so so many happy memories of those wonderful carefree days, couldn't wait to get to the pleasure beach and the roller coaster,i think 7 times in a row was my max.Took my dear mum back after my dad died,i could see she was full of memories. It all changed and like this wicked world today life is crap.Nothing though can take our good times away.

I also spent a few very happy holidays is Great Yarmouth, every August from around mid 1960's to 1975. We visited my grandmother who lived near the old Southtown station. Nan died in 1975 and I didn't return til many years later, with my wife. I showed her all the old sites and found a lot was the same, including Joyland, with the snails ride !

Love your videos. I use to holiday as a child with my family in the mid seventies and eighties in the area. Staying in California. I remember going to the top of the Oasis tower and watching shows at the Windmill amongst other happy memories. Enjoyed taking my children on the Snails last year 😊

I have never seen Great Yarmouth looking so quiet, we are so used to the hustle and bustle with the noise from the amusement arcades etc. I have been up the tower in the past when it was called the Oasis. That was very early 70`s though. The snails are a family favourite of ours and the wife and I will have a go for old times sake, it just has to be done. I have been to the circus twice, once was many years ago with my parents then again around 10 years ago with my wife and two children. It is still a real spectacle especially the ring when it drops and fills with water. I also remember going on the Water Ways on a guided boat, there again that would have been very early 70`s. It is such a shame that Great Yarmouth lost it`s greatness, millions have been spent to try and regenerate it but it seems that it needs millions more to turn it around to it`s former glory. There are still many areas which need changing, two you mentioned were the aquarium and the Winter Gardens. The beaches were also packed in my day as well, but they are never that busy anymore. Perhaps things may change due to the virus and people will return again to our holiday resorts if going abroad is much harder to do. There is often good coming out of bad. Keep up with the videos Tim, perhaps you could do a walk around Reedham or Horsey at some point.

I visited Great Yarmouth as a kid in the mid 80's to mid 90's. So many memories are flooding back, far too many to mention. Highlight of the day was Snails, tubs and then trampolines on the beach, followed by a drink in the amusements whilst playing on the penny pushers. Once a week we would go and watch the Norfolkline ferry come in. Thanks for the trip down memory lane l feel like l'm 5 again.

I think that was the best times in the 80's & 90's at Great Yarmouth everything felt so carefree. So many great memories, we spent so much money in the arcades. The chips & doughnuts were so nice. See a lot of things still survived though. Thanks for the video.

This is a gem of a vlog Tim.
Absolutely magical 😍 the Snow on the Beach!
I don't think I've ever seen just a thick layer of Snow on any beach!
Not on TV & I've never seen a Snowy Beach in real life!
You were very brave walking under the pier in that wild windy & freezing cold weather.
    You sounded cold!
There was hardly anybody else out that day & this was filmed last Winter!
    Or the Winter of 2020.
Before I joined your channel, I remember we all had quite thick snow in the winter of 2021 & 2020.
The Palm Trees in those Gardens near the Seafront looked funny with the Snow!
And the seaside attractions looked quite odd in the snow like long forgotten places.
The Beach Huts did look pretty against the snow.
You walked so far out to the Sea on the snowy sand!
Sounded like you were really enjoying yourself Tim!
I loved it when you said " no one else on the beach but me!"

Gorleston now..and many years have gone past..I’ve not been down Yarmouth seafront in years!! It’s showing me what I’ve been missing!!. I work in town, I get the bus under market gates to get home, it’s never crossed my mind to go down Regent rd either!!..after watching this film,it really did show me what I’ve been missing for such a long time,O happy days...

Hi Tim, I was born and raised in Great Yarmouth, lived in Cobholm which is now no more. Went to Technical High School. I left Yarmouth to get married, I miss it so much 50 years later. I was a teenager in the 60s. My friends and I would meet at the Regal at the weekend ,we would walk down the front via Regent road and hear all the 60s music coming out of the arcades. Another place I used to spend alot time with my family as a child, i still do to this day. Great Yarmouth has given our family such great days out. It's now become an annual MUST to get along the seafront and enjoy all of the amusement attractions. I now have a wife and a little boy, i've even gotten her into loving Yarmouth's seaside attractions. It's amazing to still be enjoying it years on from my childhood.
Does anyone remember the Ghostbusters ride? It was about halfway down the main seafront strip. Was basically a virtual reality ride. I used to absolutely love it. It just suddenly disappeared :(
Great video btw. It's great to see someone showing some love for the local scene! :)

@@WalkWithMeTim , yeah the cow boy town if you looked from the air it was horse shoe shaped it wasn't a tacky affaire it was properly done it was like a living museum and you would get bank robbers on the roof shooting at the sheriff and his deputy's and they would fall from the roofs onto a carefully placed boxes that were stacked about 7 to 8 foot high. the other thing i wanted to mention was the tower i went up it there wasn't much up there it was just an open space were you walked round and look through one of those telescopes you see on blackpool front but you could see for miles.

So in the late 60’s and early 70’s I worked for Jays Entertainments at both the Empire Cinema and Windmill Theatre. They still own the Hippodrome Circus. During the day and evening I was learning Stage Management and went on to do the Stage Lighting. After the 2nd nightly show I went down to the Empire as I was also a trained Projectionist, as there were Late Night Films. Long days and the Summer Season lasted 16 weeks. Whilst I was there we had Matt Monro, Colin Crompton, with Bernie Flint (Winner Opportunity Knocks) and Norfolk’s Singing Postman. Even Tommy Trinder had appeared there a few years earlier.
Now living in West Yorkshire I found this Video very interesting as never seen Gt Yarmouth so empty, back then it was 16 weeks of very busy days.
Great seeing how so much has changed. On a Technical note, Tim you have made an outstanding History Tour, your commentary is so clear and at just the right pace. My sincere thanks for posting this. I have subscribed to enjoy your channel. Kindest Regards Stewart 🎤👍👏

I remember the waterways in the 70's. They used to do nighttime boat rides that were steered by water flow. It was all lit up and fairy tale characters were spread around. I loved it when I was a kid. I also remember the butterfly place that became Amazonia. They had a massive Crocodile/Alligator there. Amazonia still had some butterflys if a remember rightly.

My Aunt & Uncle used to bring to Yarmouth on daytrips from Norwich as a child 50 odd years ago, to play on the sand, watch Punch & Judy and eat gritty meat paste sandwiches :-)
Then as a young adult, I worked at the Carlton hotel... we did breakfast & lunch shifts, then went across the road to roller skate and come back for the evening shift a few hours later - what energy we had.
I remember the little pub at the back of the hotel, but not what it was called.
I remember the owner had a Rolls Royce stored in the garage behind... but not his name but recall being very impressed that he had his own brand of champagne.
Now the hotel is closed :-( Tthat pub, Rolls & champagne long gone...
...but so much remains and is familiar.
I'll enjoy revisiting in a couple of weeks

Thank you for sharing. I was born in Yarmouth and know it very well. I’m devastated to see they have knocked the Marina Centre down. Certainly outdated but held a lot of memories of my childhood. Evenings at the piatza bar disco (not sure if I spelt that right) in the summer holidays in the mid 90s were just epic 👌🏼

I was asleep in a B&B 2 blocks away to the north when that fire happened. Watched them damping down the morning after. The pub on the prom is a fantastic place for a meal and a beer. First went to Gt Yarmouth when I was 9, back in 1987. Went up the Oasis Tower, and you look right across to Berney Arms mill on Breydon water. Did the circus a few years ago, and love the Rollercoaster.
