01:57 Did you know that Tallinn, in Estonian, and King's Lynn, in English, mean the same thing? Similarly, Blackpool and Dublin have identical meanings. Land's End and Finisterre are another pair of identical place names. Yet another pair are Newcastle, and Khota Baru in Indonesia. It can be interesting to learn how many places around the world have similar place names.
I have visited Lowestoft several times. For the first time with a sailing ship from Amsterdam to Lowestoft. Lowestoft has a nice beach, but Great Yarmouth has more beach life and attractions. Thank you Tim for this video.
I used to come here from Canada every summer to see my grandparents. We always would watch the airshow and I will never forget seeing that harrier crash into the sea
Thanks so much. I live just outside the town and youve made it all look so clean and friendly. We have gone through so much shit with the decline and loss of world class coachworks and shipbuilding, the collapse of fleet-based deep sea fishing and the long gone days of Pye then Sanyo Electronics. Shell UK Exploration and the Co-Op cannery were also major employers. However, there is some continuity; Birds Eye Walls/Unilever are still a major and proud employer and the CEFAS Laboratory is an international centre of excellence. Whilst large scale offshore support for oil and gas remains here, the new wind-farm technologies are starting to regenerate a good vibe about the town. Things are starting to improve! Whilst our traffic system of one way gridlocks continues to suffocate Lowestoft (Great Yarmouth is much better - the traffic system and town planning puts us to shame) we look forward to the third river crossing which hopefully will produce employment opportunuties for local skills. God knows we need it. Shopping is changing with the move to modern retail parks at North Quay (Currys/PC world) and Gisleham/Pakefield (The Range). The actual town centre is dying....needs redevelopment into residential, improved theatre provision, proper central swimming pool, new home for Lowestoft Town FC, a modern open air food market and parkland. A quick mention for Oulton Broad, with the huge park, marina and gateway to the Suffolk Broads system, plus its' unique two rail stations (one line to Ipswich/London, the other to Norwich) it is a beauty spot to behold, especially in summertime. Really enjoy your work. Thanks for posting
I am hooked on Lowestoft and Corton and stay overnight at the Premier Inn. So I can watch the sunrise while sitting on the steps to the beach at Corton which is so good for the soul. Arriving the day before and having my evening meal at the White Horse in the village is always a treat. Can't wait to go back 😊
All the years I have spent on the east coast and I have never been to Lowestoft, apart from the most eastly point, I cant wait to go there now. Next time we take the caravan we will definitely be going, Thanks Tim.
I used to go Lowestoft as a kid. I met a girl who I think was the love of my life but I blew it & always wonder about her. We didn't have mobiles like today otherwise things may of been different. Hope your life has been great Laura. Love Marcus ❤️ 🙏🏻
Good evening Tim just watching your Lowestoft video brings back childhood memories my late nan used to live in Harleston and Lowestoft was her favourite seaside place.we often went for the day out great memories.
I went there when I was 14 , my first time in UK, amazing summer I had to be honest , and a lot of good memories, I became bilingual with Spanish, that is why I have been teaching both for over 20 years now on skype,,It is great to watch this video, thanks Tim !!!,your video is a good souvenier for me at this moment since I have been thinking about going back there and Bristol, where I spent almost 4 years studying in UWE, university of the west of England.
Loved your video. My best friend lives in Lowestoft and because of the current restrictions we've not been able to visit her so it was lovely to see this video just to remind me how nice it is there. Thank you❤
You deserve a medal, don't know how you have made Lowestoft look so good. Possibly because there are no crack and smackheads in the high street because of lockdown, just a thought
With me being a bus driver and enthusiast, Lowestoft is well known to me as the home of the bus body builder Eastern Coach Works, I believe in its heyday the largest employer in the town, sadly closed around 1987. A cracking video, you seem to get lovely sunny days, but don't let rain put you off, I love a wet day for filming! If you're planning on coming further down in to Suffolk, I'd love to see Aldeburgh, Orford, Woodbridge and Felixstowe in the future. Looking forward to your next video!
I usually go for walks into Lowestoft on my days off from Southwold Pier. Often visit Ness Point too. Feels great to have visited the most Easterly point of the UK. Hehe I always thought the Gulliver wind turbine sounded like a plane flying over too. 6:54 Never really thought of that pub as the Queen Vic from EastEnders. But then, I stopped watching the show a long time ago. Only ever been in the Marina Theatre once years ago, when they had a James Bond music event. 7:34 That Barnardo's shop on the left is where I was working before Southwold Pier. Glad I'm not the only one who feels the Bascule Bridge is gonna collapse everytime I walk across it lol Love it when the fair visits the sea front twice during the summer. Shame they couldn't this year cuz of Covid-19. 11:38 So do I.
Thanks Tim ,love your vids, you a have such wide knowledge of the area,Yes Norfolk is an amazing place to visit, been to the northern area,Cromer,Wells and stayed near Mundesley several times but not these parts around Yarmouth.Must go there sometime, once again lovely vids and thanks for all your hard work making them.Best wishes ,Alan
So well spoken! & your facts are so interesting, like I’ve lived here my whole life & I didn’t know half of the stuff I do until now. Your videos are awesome! Keep doing what ur doing x
A few things I haven't seen before like the distances to different places you pointed out from the most Easterly point (which was also a very interesting Geographical fact) Well done. Another successful" Walk with me" 👍
Hi. I love the videos, next time you go to Lowestoft make sure to try the hot donuts next to the South Beach arcades. They are delicious. Me and my family love them! Keep up the good work!

Lowestoft was a brilliant place to visit not as good as Yarmouth but still great place the beach was fantastic and had a long paddle in the sea and walked down the seafront and 2 piers and walked around the town the shops were great here and the weather stayed dry all week for my holiday keep up the brilliant videos Tim

Great video of yours!! Lowestoft is a really nice seaside resort. Greetings from Poland!!! BTW, Krapkowice is a little town in the south of Poland (for those who might not know about it)

Hi Tim I've have a funny story we were visiting a few years ago . We tried to visit lowestoft we just couldn't find our way in to the sea front to park . So we never got a chance to see the beach . I have been though before a while ago now . Thanks for sharing with us. Tracey xxx

Great Video, and thank you, but could have done with another 5 minutes or so showing more of the beach and area around at the end. I went there for the first time 2 months ago and I was very impressed., Beautiful place.
did you know that you can take a pleasant walk from Lowestoft to Oulton broad and the yacht station which is part of the Norfolk Broads rivers where people on holiday as well as boat owners moor their boats and vice versa which takes about 45 mins depending on how quick you walk, and in places you can actually walk along and through all the little boat yards dotted along the route, although it takes a while to walk there it only takes about 5 mins by train but you dont get to take in all the views and wonderful sea air, and the broads rivers as 2 tidal routes although one is controlled and the controlled one is the Lowestoft area as it as sea and river locks together at Oulton Broad, whereas Gt Yarmouth the tide isn't controlled and just pushes the water levels up, and there is also a river taxi from the broad to Lowestoft which runs in the summer but is dependant on the weather and sea conditions.
A curiosity of the English language: We often call them seagulls, but there is no bird which is properly called a seagull. We should call them simply gulls or mews. There are a wide variety of gulls around the world, all with different names, such as heron gull, lesser black-backed gull, kittiwake, little gull, and so on, but no sea gull.
Always pronounced it Lowestof, so been wrong all my life haha. Visited it once in the 80s while staying in a caravan on the south denes, Great Yarmouth.
Really enjoyed this one Tim, thanks! Just a quick question, I'm an artist and would love to try to paint from screenshots from your blogs as I can't get out and about too much these days... would that be OK? I'd credit you, plus I'm thinking of joining your Patreon to support your wonderful virtual walks that are so good for those of us stuck at home a lot of the time.

Found you by chance a few weeks ago as I follow Kate McCabe. I linked your channel thinking she may like it as she lives local to your video's and may increase your subsription. Turns out she knows you anyway. I have visited Hemsby and Hopton (Potters) and love the Norfolk beaches. Living near Manchester it's not a short journey but I hope to visit again soon. I look forward to seeing your weekly walks very much. Well done 🤗

Great video. Love Lowestoft. I think those seagulls on the Claremont Pier are Kittiwakes and are the most southerly population in the UK. Are you planning to do Norwich soon. Might need a couple of vids to cover all the history?
OK, I have to say, these videos are turning out to be far more interesting than I thought they would be. I am enjoying them. Are we going to see you get some sand between your toes at Sheringham and other gems of Norfolk?
I've spent a week on each occasion touring Norfolk and Suffolk for a few years now. Granted, overall I prefer Yorkshire and its ruggedness, but I do like the areas of Norfolk and Suffolk immensely. So yes, let us see you get some sand between your toes at Sheringham which I love visiting via the steam railway.

I used to do that walk regularly as I lived in town and worked in "The Original Gift Shop" on Bridge Road. It's still there. A little treasure trove.

Well done 🤗
@@sueg2470 Thank you for trying to help up with subs!! It is a difficult task.... but I am sure I'll get there!!! And thanks for all your kind words!

Thank you too!
Good work fella 👍
Thanks 👍
Great video. Love Lowestoft. I think those seagulls on the Claremont Pier are Kittiwakes and are the most southerly population in the UK. Are you planning to do Norwich soon. Might need a couple of vids to cover all the history?
Thanks Kathryn, yes Norwich will be a future video
I like your videos😷
thanks Sharon!
Gorgeous
Not many people say that about lowestoft
@@WalkWithMeTim after a disastrous move attempt before, I'm hoping to find a swap to Lowestoft. I miss the water and my kids love it
The baby seagulls are grey, they turn white once they reach adulthood
So weird to see my home on TH-cam, you make it look so lovely 🥺😂
it does
OK, I have to say, these videos are turning out to be far more interesting than I thought they would be. I am enjoying them. Are we going to see you get some sand between your toes at Sheringham and other gems of Norfolk?
Yes Norfolk is coming very soon thanks for watching, if you haven't remember to subscribe 😎
I've spent a week on each occasion touring Norfolk and Suffolk for a few years now. Granted, overall I prefer Yorkshire and its ruggedness, but I do like the areas of Norfolk and Suffolk immensely. So yes, let us see you get some sand between your toes at Sheringham which I love visiting via the steam railway.
nice vid dude you deserve more subs
Thanks
Hey i grew up here, it looks a lot different
You did a great job with the video
