I love not being limited to one company. It’s like carrying a nook, kindle, and kobo all at once. Plus I love that I can use the read and listen simultaneously feature that is on the kindle app, but not the kindle devices.

Does the Palma read your kindle books, like text to speech?

  • @ReadGameCraftCook

I just ordered one two days ago, went back and forth on it for many months. I justified the price because the specs ARE better than the average reader, which makes it responsive. I definitely agree about the camera, it’s mind boggling. I ordered to replace my phone for checking social media and I use Reddit a lot. My phone can be used solely as a hotspot and for calls, mostly staying in my purse. I’m hoping I enjoy the reading experience though, despite there being fewer characters per line.

I am on the fence about buying this device too. One use case I might use it for is to save articles to the Pocket app and read them on the Palma.

I personally think this would be a great device for using as a mp3 player/ language learning device too so that's one of the reasons I want it. To read books in other languages/have audiobooks in the same device to follow along with in another language is awesome to me. Also the ability to download language learning apps without having to switch devices is the icing on the cake to me.

As someone who only reads ebooks and can not read on my phone, I love the palma! Being able to use all the different book apps is exactly what I wanted. I took it on a 2 week vacation and used it the whole time. It was so light and easy to travel with. I downloaded books from all the different apps, so I had loads to choose from. Plus, when people see it, they assume it's a phone and don't ask you what you're reading:)

The key thing is being able to read from different readers, e.g. Kobo, Kindle, Libby, BorrowBox, Bible app etc on one device. It is the e-Reader I read most on is my Palma because I always take it with me, both inside and outside the house. And the text quality is excellent, plus the ability to use volume buttons as page turn buttons is great. The number of lines of text compared to my Kindle Oasis is actually only two lines less per page, which means I get through books quickly. Do yourself a favour, load your current book that you are reading on it and use the Palma to read exclusively on it until you finish it and then you'll get it!

I understand your point about “not getting it.” I am considering getting one to fit in my purse for on the go in addition to my normal but slightly too big reader. The problem with it is they confused the focus neither making it an e-reader, nor a phone. An android e-reader is way better for me since I want to read on multiple book apps and use Goodreads directly on my device (no Kindle really doesn’t allow for this despite claiming to). I think they need to split the line for the v3 & have one that is focused entirely on reading functionality like the Go 6 is (and by extension have a lower price) and another that is a full phone. I wouldn’t be opposed to one that was a 5”-5.5” screen either since truthfully my phone’s height is a little much for my small hands.
To me the intention of this device is to be an “on the go” or “purse” e-reader not your main lounging at home device though the price does not reflect that well.

Love mine. 300 dpi backlit with microsd and google play store that fits in my pocket.
Reading on an tablet or phone sucks (especially with ANY sunlight). Outside reading is my #1 use case actually.
Should be a lifetime product (but I know I will buy the Palma 2 when it is released). So lightweight too. Already 5x the books in 3 months than I did all last year. I have big hands so...7 inch would be ideal. Just an inch bigger but thats minor

I really like it for the size and that I can have multiple reading apps on it so I can switch between them. I agree that there are a lot of options on it that aren't necessary. I don't have a problem with the shorter battery life, I just plug it in overnight like I do my Kobos and Kindles.

  • @KevinGamin
    @KevinGamin 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I ordered one of these used from the Boox website. I wanted a device which I could read my library, Kobo, and Kindle books on without having to switch devices. I also wanted the e-ink screen as my eyes get strained staring at my computer screen for work throughout the day. On top of that, the one handed operation I can do with the Palma makes it easy for me to hold and pet my cats and still read.

  • @Myallergyfreekitchen

I’ve had mine for about nine months now and can honestly say that I love it. I also have a Kindle oasis. I still use my oasis often. However, I absolutely love the fact that I can read hoopla books on my palma. I also love that can access my Bible app. Any books of that size just glitch on my Kindle. So that is an amazing function. I would recommend this to anybody who was on the fence about getting an alternative sized Kindle because this gives you other options, besides just size change. It also is great to take places when you don’t want to bring your entire Kindle.

@@KarenLMagno Yes, I have set my volume button on the Palma to page turn while in the kindle app and on hoopla. Adding a popsocket helped the comfort of holding the device. Which is another HUGE pro for the Palma. Because it is so lightweight I can comfortably read while holding my baby.

The main benefit of it having access to the Google play store is being able to access books from literally any reading app you can think of, while still having the benefits of the e-ink screen. As someone who lives in Louisiana, the benefit of reading in the sunlight is a huge deal for me because the sun is very very bright.

The super fast etc are the speed options for the screen refresh. For example a high speed screen refresh gives a faster and smoother scrolling experience but has worse image quality. You can switch between them depending on what you want to do.

This is a great device. My only concern is the Android version. Currently Android is already on v14 in production. This device is running Android v11. At this point, even the apps it could run, like Kindle app, will cease to be supported by Amazon. Same as many other reading apps. It should be at least Android v13 so it is a bit more future proof

Well, I’ve had my, now for about 10 days and I made the got it for a back up to my Kindle and also decides to the big factor. The price point is over much for sure points so I didn’t. Really spending money.
In addition to the Kindle lab I also put on the Audible app and put an extra 256 GB of storage in the SD
So I have Kimber and I have the Audible app on the device also installed NPR
You’re right the temptation to dick around with all the settings driving me crazy. So I
tried to keep that at a minimum.
I currently have in my Kindle library in excessive 700 books and 800 audiobooks which is why I wanted the storage.
But all that is in the future, I’m still getting used to the device, but I enjoy it!

I think that's just too small for my bad eyesight to read with. I wouldn't want to scroll down while reading either, nor would I want distracting games on my e-reader. For that price, I'd rather have a Kindle with a larger screen and a nice dinner or two.
