    The 10.3 Go is very likely going to be my next device. You’re absolutely right: even though it can handle loads of apps, you just don’t feel the need to use them all. I already own a Boox Note 2, and it evokes a similar feeling. There’s something about e-ink that just brings a sense of calm, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in a book again, rather than chasing after the next short video or the latest status update on WhatsApp.
    Of course, you could achieve that same peace with paper.
    But right now, Boox is very close to a sweet spot, balancing the best of both worlds: combining the benefits of real paper with the convenience of a digital device.

    The Boox Go Color 7 is amazing! I was hesitant since I had an Oasis and they're basically the same size but I'm glad I got it. Reading manga and comics on here is incredible ~ love that it has android. The TTS feature was the main motivator and it's honestly better than I expected.

    Yes.
    No iPad or Android tablet has EVER truly replaced my first e-reader. For the same reasons as yours, my old Sony eReader allowed me to read my books and magazines without distraction.
    Sadly, I haven't purchased a new one to replace my long-dead Sony. I dislike the Amazon and Nook readers, because of all the proprietary sign-in accounts they have. I don't want to have to ASK PERMISSION from a corporation to read my old books and magazines on my eReader.
    Mahalo for opening my eyes to new brands of this niche product. These products are hard to find and look at and try here in Hawai'i, so I've been remiss in buying a new one of these... Aloha, Patrick.

    I couldn't agree more! I also have a M1 12.9" iPad Pro & iPad Mini 5 both with pencils. And agree just too much distraction on top of battery life anxiety and twice as bulky and heavy inclined not to take with me. Even tho they are fantastic for Magazines,Comics,Science and Technical manuals. But for note taking,quick sketches and ebooks,Pdf's and more distraction free I also considering both of these.
    Just a more focused super light thinnest pads for these functions and more comfortable use on the go without battery anxiety is a Big Plus for me. Planning on the Go 10.3" in a week and in Aug. to get the Go 7" as a replacement for my 7yr. old Kobo Aura H2o.

    I have iPads and several e-ink devices, although no Boox devices. If you have the money to try everything, give it a go. However, if you do not have an unlimited budget or credit line, get an iPad first. I use them for work and play, but mostly for work. I correspond with customers through email and text, do research for my job, prepare pdfs, etc. The 11 inch iPad is great for all of this and Apple Notes is an easy and versatile note taker that is getting better with each software update. E-ink is simply behind in most areas. Where it shines is in long note taking and battery life. By the way, if you go that route, get one with a front light system. The writing experience is more than fine and you will appreciate the ability to work in low light situations. Also, get something with a decent camera to be able to scan documents. Finally, although taken for granted, the Apple ecosystem is finally coming into its own and with more AI functions on the way can only get better. Finally, finally if you love to write on all sorts of paper and with different kinds of pens, buy paper and pens. Much cheaper to use and you can scan in your important notes without much trouble.

    I didn't read all the comments, so forgive me if this is a repeat, but the pen does have magnets and can attach to the side of the Boox Go 10.3. It's not a strong connection, but is great to put the pen somewhere while you use your fingers to flip and scroll through pages.

    • @PatrickRambles
      @PatrickRambles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey, thanks for sharing! You're right, I found the spot. It is very weak though, I definitely wouldn't trust it to hold the pencil in place.

    • @frombrandon
      @frombrandon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PatrickRambles It will connect in two ways, one making contact with only one magnet. The pen should look centered on the side of the device (not towards the top). I find it very adequate to place the pen when I'm reading or something, and have no issue with walking around the house with it like that. Definitely not something you would put in a bag like that and expect to have the pen attached when pulling it back out though.

    • @Daniel-ro6ih
      @Daniel-ro6ih 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Boox styluses have actually 5 magnets alternating polarity from the centre towards the edges. The 2-dot sign in the middle is only a visual reference. There’s a limit in the magnets strength before they start to interfere with the eInk screen. That’s probably why the put so many and use alternating polarities for magnetism to help you find the good place. The idea is nice, but I have the feeling it would work way better if the edge wasn’t rounded…

    • @jasonmoto
      @jasonmoto 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Came to say the same. Also the pen actually attaches to the back of the device horizontal on the top, sides and bottom. I use it like this when carrying around the house as its much more stable. It also raises the device up off the table in this configuration. I will leave the pen in this place and use my other wacom stylus to take notes at my computer and the device is angled up just enough. Cheers. Good video!

    There are so many squirrels in the iPads. I get distracted by them all the time. I know a few people getting these readers just for that reason. I 100% agree about the iPad Pro series. They are way over powered for the limitations of the IOS. I want to check into getting one of these, but my fear is I would never pick up my iPad Pro ever again. I really like the idea of these, I'm just not sure the price is justified. I can't wrap my head around paying hundreds for something a hardcopy book from the library and a $10notepad can provide. Sure convenience is there but there is just so much more functionality you can get with a used ipad air for the same price. There needs to be something between the ipad and the $10 notebook that actually makes sense in terms of cost. $2-300 for an 11inch screen would be something I could swallow to fit hundreds of notes and books in but otherwise, that $500 can get me a lot of notebook and a free library card.

    I got myself a Boox Air 2 some months ago. I agree on all the advantages for focus work, more reading, less distractions… but I have it now in a drawer and barely use it. For me synchronization is key. Same apps everywere. Everything ready from one device to another. I had to re-write my workflow to integrate the Boox and still not comfortable. The best I could do is to work around the clunky OneNote Android app as a common element among devices. But I kept missing Capacities and Apple Notes. So for my use case, Apple ecosystem is more convenient. But the device was a charm to use and offers better sync options than reMarkable. Try an iPad Mini with PaperLike and grey colour filter for a 70% there experience.

      Hey! Yes the scrolling will be infinitely "worse". The reason for that is that this is e-ink. It's hard to explain but basically it's made of static frames where the e-ink is redistribute for every single frame. It makes the reading experience far superior, but fast scrolling will appear jarring. There are several settings to mitigate this, depending on the content. We ordered the Boox last week and started working on it immediately. The hardware is a joy to use and we were even able to hook up our external keyboard to type instead of using the pen. About 3 hours later, a massive storm rolled in, knocking out the power in our area - and of course the internet - for 2 days. We were never able to access the instruction manual at the time because that is CENTRALIZED under the control of Boox! We were never able to get our work backed up to the USB-C thumb drive we installed and there was no way to find out how to do so. All forums and discussions - except for youtube - are shielded behind Boox's firewall. WHAT kind of crazy idea is that? WHY couldn't they have put the instruction manual on the device itself?! No more Boox for us.
