I use bookmark for maps and glossary, that sort of thing. Makes it easy to flip back and forth between where you are in the book and looking at the map or glossary.
Lol the people who said “buy a watch” must not be night readers. Sorry but when I’m checking the time it’s not because it’s noon and daylight out, it’s because it’s 2:00 Am and I’m reading in the dark, and I need to know how bad I messed up. Honestly reaching over to look at my phone when my phone brightness is probably 100% also not a good idea at that time. 😅 3:14
@@dylancanread it would be such a waste to buy a watch specifically for checking the time when you're using your kindle especially when every device we use daily already has a clock at the top lol

My favorite Kindle "trick" isn't really a trick at all I guess, but an add on device. I love having the remote page turner for my kindle for when I am huddled under a blanket.
I've had a Kindle for 10 years, always in Airplane mode. That also removes the ads eventually as they expire. If you connect to wifi to check for software updates the ads will be back, but switching to airplane mode will again remove them after a while.
They told me yesterday that they couldn’t do that on their end anymore so what they did was have me pay and then refund me that order. So still free but extra steps
Lots of good information. I put my books into collections by favorites, samples to purchase later, books I own, and a few other categories. Thanks for sharing.
You can also adjust the margins. I have my margins really indented so that way I can connect my kindle clicker. Which if you haven’t purchased the clicker, then that’s a game changer.
I love the clicker-one reason I switched to a Kindle was the struggle to hold the book open in bed and this made the whole process even easier to just advance pages.
Yes, it turns your pages--one part goes on the margin of the book, like a large paperclip (only way I can describe it) and is the receiver, the clicker is in your hand and turns the pages. They're available on Amazon. I also purchased a book holder to make it even easier.@@susysclips
Thanks for these handy tips. I've just revived my Kindle from its home on the shelves. Time for some serious reading while on holiday/vacation. "Show covers on lock screen" - has been moved on the Kindle Paperwhite software version 5.16.8. To get to it you should do the following. To display the book cover on the lock screen of a Kindle Paperwhite, you typically go to Settings -> Screen and brightness -> Show covers on lock screen and ensure this option is checked
In Canada the kindles come ad free anyway with no option to even buy one with ads. Likely because ads from the states would be irrelevant in Canada. Wonder if it’s ad free in the UK too? I like to use the bookmark feature because I read on my phone or iPad during the day and use the kindle when in bed. It picks up the last page read on whichever device I last used.
Wow about the Alexa app! This will be great for my intellectually disabled son.. he loves reading but struggles a lot, so being able to turn any of his books into audio books is amazing 😊 Ty for the info
I had no clue about the _pinch_ option to increase/decrease the font! 🙄 Also, I had wondered how in the world the X-Ray feature worked! Good to know next time I read a Dickens and have to try to keep up with 57 characters! 😂 Thanks for sharing! 📚
I bought my Kindle through an authorized seller (Best Buy, Staples, etc) and it was the same price as Amazon and doesn't have any ads. Note that this was in Canada so I can't say if it is any different at a US store. Saved $20 simply by not buying it directly on Amazon!
Don't open up your phone to look something up because you will spend 30 mins on your phone, instead open up the kindle web browser to spend 30 mins just loading it
The pinching to change font size is nice to know. Sometimes I like to change sizes and it is pretty cumbersome to click so many times just to change the font size (first world problems I know lol)
I actually play Sudoku on the browser, and now that I managed to open my Google account, I can write in notes, check my calendar and also my mail (which I actually don't do, but I assume you can do it, too). The fonts tip is amazing! Though I don't think I have a favorite font that is not on my Kindle. I'll have to figure it out (maybe add the Robot language from Stray, so I can "learn a new language"? That's too geeky of me haha 😅) And about the ads, I bought mine used and it had no ads. Once I downloaded some free books from Amazon, it started showing ads and I had to contact Amazon Support and they very kindly did the job of removing them from mi Kindle. I haven't had ads since. A great option if, for any reason, yours start showing recommendations and such. Lastly, I use my Kindle in airplane mode 24/7 (except for when I play a Sudoku) and the battery lasts over two weeks. I usually charge it at 48% after two or three weeks (also I read about 30 minutes or so per day, about 5 days a week). Thanks a lot for the tips!
Is it possible to listen to the audio book while following along on the ebook? I can’t seem to make this option work. I have the newest version of the kindle paperwhite if that affects anything.
Not sure about alexa app. I go to the Aa menu, go to more, enable assistive reader. For a variety of voice options go to main Kindle menu, device options, keyboard and language, text to speech and download additional voices. Why do I like this? Because British or Australian accented English reader has a less robotic sound to me making it sound more human to me. And to better understand your overseas tech help in the future there was added an Indian English one as well.
It worked, the Amazon associate was so kind and told me it usually costs $20 but he would remove them for me for free! Thank you so much for that tip!!
I'm glad you brought up ads. I was thinking about purchasing a Kindle but I saw something about a lockscreen ad. Was kind of confuse as to what it meant by that, like is it a literal ad on the lockscreen. So are you telling me that something I paid for will be showing me ads on my lockscreen?!
Help! I don't have the cover option when I go into "device options" I did just get the ads removed, do I have to wait a certain amount of time before the cover option will pop up?
I have a kids’ kindle and would love to use it for reading the New Yorker magazine and New York Times. Is that possible? Using the kindle for reading is so much nicer than using my iPhone or iPad!
Just replaced my OG kindle paper white from 2016 with a new one. Charger stopped working not the device! Needed a little refresh for the new options ! Thanks man!
as I have a tendency to drop devices (particularly my phone >_< ) I bought a cover that automagically wakes my Kindle up when the cover is opened (though it's not working ATM even though it should still be charged, argh) also, I made notes as some of these I didn't know (or was unsure where to find the options)
Hello Dylan for all these videos. Do you know a way to increase the font size of the kindle? I don't mean those of the book I'm reading but those of the system. Let say when I select a word for a definition (Yes, English isn't my first language ) the font is too small for me. I usually read without my glasses in bed :) . Allen
Hi thank you for these tips. I am just a new kindle user, but I think it isn't well thought out. Yes, I can change the font when I'm reading a book, but I have SOOO much trouble reading the menu. It is too small... do you know a way to enlarge that? Also, it is quite hard to read the books in my library. Is there a way to enlarge those? Do you know why some books by an author are only $1.99 and others are $16.99? Doesn't make sense.
Great tips, very informative, thank you. Can we read a kindle unlimited book via Bluetooth, not Audible. Can you please show that as I cannot find any videos on it.
The pinch to zoom is clutch for nighttime reading. Wish they had a way to auto schedule styles for reading like they have for warm light. Appreciate your content. I've been reading so much since upgrading to a signature paperwhite and a fire HD 10 food manga.
For those who read fanfiction, the browser is great for that. Best to use article mode to be able to change font size, though. Also possible to download fics off AO3 directly and load it up to the kindle.
If you download an e-book from somewhere other than Kindle, some of your tips don't work. You cab;t have the book's cover display or change the font altough you can still change the size.. I am not sure whether Goodreads gets any information about any books you haven't sourced from Kindle
My biggest turn off when it comes to e-readers is the speed, esoecially with textbooks. I just don't want have the patience to wait until a page loads, especially if you have to zoom in and out on some details. Which e book is the fastest in terms of performance as of today? Thanks!
Thanks Dylan, good information. I tried to remove ads via #25 on 11/28/24 and a CSR said they no longer had that ability. They directed me to a site where I could block ads at an extra charge. Oh well, thanks anyway
Here’s one - if you don’t like to see page in book/time in chapter/ etc… and have it turned off…. You can see all those stats on the fly by click the bottom of the book your in and cycle through them , and then back to it being gone.
I called Amazon and they too the adds off and I got a $25 gift certificate.. thanks Now I did not get that switch at the top of the page to have my book I’m reading come up but my library came up. So that’s a big help. I called and they sent me to the kindle department, I have a Kindle white page 11t generation Thank you for the help. I enjoy help and tips thank you……. PS I’m keeping all the money 😂
One thing I’m having trouble with at the Kindle site, is understanding the difference between archiving and deleting. When I had a Nook, I liked their system of having a bookshelf, and it seems like you could put a book away and not have to see it all the time, but it wasn’t deleted. I find the fact that my Kindle is clogged with so many books. I’ve already read super, super annoying. If you have any helpful hints Dylan, I’d really appreciate it. It’s driving me nuts.
My Kindle is older but is a Paperwhite. My friend recommended Hoopla but we don't think I can put it on my Kindle. Does my Kindle need to be newer or maybe a diffent type. I know mine was not very expensive
Hi! Thanks for the video! In trying to link my goodreads account on my Kindle Paperwhite 10th generation (software version 5.16.8) and I dont see any social networks option in my account to link my goodreads. Is there any reason why Im not seeing this option in my Kindle ?
I read slowly so I want to keep library ebooks (via Libby to Kindle) on my iPad Kindle app for a month or longer. To do that I must keep the iPad offline. While it is offline there is no way to add new ebooks UNLESS they can be transferred via cable. If I put the device online the Kindle books will be removed when the library loan is over. I used to be able to download entire Kindle ebooks on active library loans from the Amazon website to a PC and then transfer from there to either the Kindle device or to the Kindle App on PC, Android or IOS devices. But Amazon eliminated the Kindle App as a destination; now it is possible to transfer a library ebook from Amazon via PC ONLY to a Kindle Device. So I want to know how I can transfer Kindle ebook files from Kindle device to the Kindle app on my iPad. Can iTunes serve as an intermediary?
My biggest complaint/issue with Kindle is the speed. I even noticed when you were demonstrating a feature you jumped ahead. I saw the skip in video. I'd rather read a real book unless they fix this issue (issue for me).
“And that estimated time is not always accurate”. This is why it bothers me that Kindle doesn’t have an option to display the amount of pages until the end of a chapter. My other e-reader had this, and I really miss it on my Kindle…
I have a quick question about my new kindle (my first one) I have exchanged mine 3 times thinking these little black dots on the screen are dead pixels. They remain stationary even after a page refresh. After 3 devices having the same dots, I’m beginning to think this is normal. Can you provide any information? Just trying to figure out if I, yet again, got another defective device or if the small black dots are normal. Its barely noticeable unless you are looking for it
I use libby as i cant afford other services. If i can find a kindle from a thrift shop is it possible to just use it for libby? Or would you suggest an android style tablet?
I use bookmark for maps and glossary, that sort of thing. Makes it easy to flip back and forth between where you are in the book and looking at the map or glossary.
That is actually genius! I am gonna that it like that too now

Here’s one - if you don’t like to see page in book/time in chapter/ etc… and have it turned off…. You can see all those stats on the fly by click the bottom of the book your in and cycle through them , and then back to it being gone.
I called Amazon and they too the adds off and I got a $25 gift certificate.. thanks
Now I did not get that switch at the top of the page to have my book I’m reading come up but my library came up. So that’s a big help. I called and they sent me to the kindle department, I have a Kindle white page 11t generation Thank you for the help. I enjoy help and tips thank you……. PS I’m keeping all the money 😂
I like the ad's I've had a couple of good recommendations besides you only see them for like 2 seconds 😏
Can I add audiobooks from Audible to my kindle library ? Thanks love your channel
Thank you for the tips! Also, just realize, I got the same sweater you got! I even wore it today 😂
My regular kindle gen 7 doesn’t have the show cover feature as a screen saver :(
My Kindle is older but is a Paperwhite. My friend recommended Hoopla but we don't think I can put it on my Kindle. Does my Kindle need to be newer or maybe a diffent type. I know mine was not very expensive
I just tried to get Amazon chat to turn off my ads but they would only do it for a fee 😞 I'll try again next week. Thanks!
Tell them some of the ads were disturbing and you have kids who can see them
@@hotwasabi1085 I told them the ads were racy and embarrassing, didn't work with that rep 😞
Thank you! When having Alexa read a book to you, are you able to speed it up? I listen to most audiobooks at 1.5 speed.
Ask her lol
Does Amazon offer sales on Christmas ????
What's the purpose of making a Collection as a favorite?
My biggest complaint/issue with Kindle is the speed. I even noticed when you were demonstrating a feature you jumped ahead. I saw the skip in video. I'd rather read a real book unless they fix this issue (issue for me).
I want to update my Kindle to Oasis. Should I buy 8 or 32 GB?
32 is probably a bit obsessive. 8gb will easily hold well over 1k books.
Its barely noticeable unless you are looking for it
Is there any way you can have the title and author on every page,, like a real book does
I use libby as i cant afford other services. If i can find a kindle from a thrift shop is it possible to just use it for libby? Or would you suggest an android style tablet?
