    • @jrmvideo
      @jrmvideo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! Thank you! Our intercom system for the director and camera ops is Unity Cloud. It's an IP based system running off a Mac Mini. There's pros and cons. I wanted something wireless that camera ops can hear program audio and this does that without breaking the bank. Definitely more affordable than a wireless ClearCom system! As for the producer and talent, that intercom is just talkback from our audio console.

    Super envious of you guys! In our state, Washington, our state wide athletics association partnered with that NFHS group and I lost my contract broadcasting for the school this year because they had to sign an Exclusive contract with that company for a pics a lot camera so now I don’t have any clients this year to do sports for

    • @jrmvideo
      @jrmvideo  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wow, that's horrible! Sorry to hear that. Now that has me worrying it could happen here. We already have an issue with this local media outlet who "owns" the rights to every high school playoff game in Western PA. Absolute BS there's the selling of broadcast rights for high school sports. This isn't college or pros. Leave high school sports open to companies like us. We offer internship programs with the schools as we give back and offer students valuable experience in the broadcast industry. Maybe try some local D3 colleges in your area!

      @@jrmvideo have an email to the college here since they are still “in house” but it’s a very simple and low quality production. In NY NFHS only has rights to the post season stuff... for now. Shitty thing is our local section signed a contract with Spectrum and gave them exclusive rights to all regular season Thursday and Friday night football games, and Spectrum only airs one game per week.
      Per the rate schedule I got from the section a couple years ago, it was $300 to buy rights for a football game from Spectrum, however I've had absolutely no luck dealing with the section nor Spectrum, they just keep running me in circles. It probably doesn't help that the head of NYSPHSAA does commentary for the Spectrum broadcasts, either. (Also I may have stole a handful of graduation gigs from the Spectrum guys).
      I ended up reaching out to junior colleges and smaller D3 schools and got quite a bit of interest, but my problem now is finding reliable crew now that everything's back to "normal". You're lucky to have built what seems like a solid team! That's most the battle right there.

    • @hickeyJ
      @hickeyJ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@9thstreet I'm with a local access station in Section 6 in NY and we've had the same issue having to deal with NYSPHSAA's partnership with NFHS. A couple of network stations in Buffalo used to do football broadcasts, but I assume they stopped doing that for cost reasons.
      Fortunately our local athletic director is chill with us so we don't usually have issues with home games, but as soon as we want to go on the road it becomes a huge hassle.
      There's a channel on TH-cam that does as many as ten Western NY games every weekend, but from what I understand they've also been struggling with the athletic association's rules and the shortage of people volunteering or interning for local productions. They've also been required to put a majority of their regular season games on NFHS for subscription viewing only thanks to the association's contract rules.

      Doug Johnson Productions has videos that pretty much taught me how to use fiber. I didn't know anything about fiber 2 years ago. I'd say he was the one who inspired us to use fiber. As far as crew, everyone on our crew is all graduates of the high school we work for. We now have an internship program with the school so video students will intern with us then when they graduate, we'll bring them on the crew. Everyone is 1099'd unfortunately. Hoping we get to the point where I can have them on payroll as employees.

Evrery on hears the same audio coming out of your mic or do you separate the audio for the cameramen and the commentators? Please be detailed in your answer. Thank you and great job guys. I am planning on building an OB Van as well, so I am learning from you guys.

      At the time this video was released, nothing from the Mackie mixer goes to the Unity intercom. The producer mic from the Mackie goes to an Aux Send which went back to the announcers headsets only. For the crew intercom, the directors mic would go into Unity and yes, everyone would hear the same thing. The director would be talking to the crew and they would all hear his cues.

      @@jrmvideo @JRM Video Production Where did yall get the money to get into this? Just saved up from previous jobs, take out a loan, or started out with "basic equipment" doing video gigs? - Also do you have a contract with the school, do you make money off of livestreaming for the school or is it volunteer? I already have a trailer down here in Middle Tennessee, needs a bit of work, but the rest of it is just the equipment and pricing.

    • @jrmvideo
      @jrmvideo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HTMLiveEvents Before we officially started the company, we were doing very basic gigs with a lot of odds and end equipment that both Ryan and I collected over the years. We owned all 3 cameras, soundboard, wireless mics, XLR, switcher, etc. Then took out a loan to buy the trailer, fabricate the inside, and purchase the necessary equipment for fiber. We were able to pay that loan off after one football season. So yes, we are in a paid contract from the school and we collect revenue from advertising. We still upgrade equipment every Summer. There's already a list we're going to get for Summer 2023 so the trailer is constantly changing. After this video was shot, we installed a new IP based audio console. Gotta keep up with the constantly changing tech. I would start with building what you need to have a functional broadcast, then start adding in more bells and whistles as the business grows and is able to fund equipment upgrades.

    Can you do a video like this for High School Basketball? (Edit: I believe you actually already did a similar video on Basketball, but it was just the production BTS, so I'll maybe save you some trouble with a question: Is the setup basically the same just everything run into a building? If not, would you be able to make a video on it?) Thanks! (Edit 2: How do you get internet to the trailer to stream? Or how do you send out the video? Starlink? Venue Internet? LiveU? I recently got a Teradek Node II which has DUAL SIM capability, and I can use my phone SIM, or the SIM that came with it which is TELNA brand and $10 per Gigabyte of data Usage)

    • @jrmvideo
      @jrmvideo  ปีที่แล้ว

      We actually just recorded a BTS video like this for basketball. Working on editing that now. But to answer your first questions, yes. Setup is pretty much the same. There's a few additions which we'll cover. We get internet from the venue usually inside and send it from our network switch back into the trailer over fiber. There's a few instances where sometimes the venue doesn't have internet and I have been looking into Starlink. We may purchase that over Summer as a backup solution. Keep your eyes out for a basketball video in the coming weeks!
