WOW, what an awesome behind-the-scenes production. Wish I had seen this in Dec 2021, as I may not have been so pushy to stream my high school's lacrosse games next year. What a lot of work, hard work, stressful work getting it all hooked up and running and stable! I see I have much to learn, yet. But, that's why we do it. We love it. At 60, I am now closer to finishing my mobile production truck (a 2013 Ford E450 Cutaway, a converted 20+ seater shuttle bus) and just starting to finally do what I'd like to do with the rest of my life, God willing...any and all types of video and audio productions! Duker, Baltimore, MD.🎥 Keep up the great videos. You are awesome, engaging, knowledgeable, my friend, and your Dad must be one heck of a father figure.
I know it’s probably a little sensitive, but would love to know the financial side of this. How much does a high school pay for this type of service? What are the expenses? How much did the generator cost lots of questions
It was great watching you set this up and gave me so encouragement to get back to live events! I miss it and the production crews a lot.

Great to see another video from you! =-D I love BTS content and would love to see more like this! Maybe some focusing on common troubleshooting that may arise before or during production
Would love to see some future BTS content relating to pre-production aspect of a live production! Such as what kind of location scout evaluation/walk-through you do, things you look for on site, inquiries for the client or location supervisor, what kind of vendors or personnel operating the location that you communicate with/why, etc
Would love to see one of these from the production side too! Good stuff!

Absolutely love it! This was super helpful seeing every step that goes in to setup. I'd love to see a video on how you fax everything, and maybe WHY we check things in the way that we do. As a simple example, what are engineers looking for when they see a valid/Bars and tone?

What are you using for your transmission? I saw the LiveU pack. Was that sending out the program feed?
Hi! Yes, the local station brings their LiveU and we provide them the MUX program feed :)

Camera operation: how much of it is operator intuition, how much of it is simple “video 101”, how much of it is covered in pre-event briefings, and how much is direct instruction during the event? Do you have any videos on this?
I currently do not have a video on this. Would make for a good podcast format discussion though! The short answer though, is all of the above. I'd say pretty close to all equal parts at that!
I see your sideline reporter is using a Roameo pack to talk to the truck and hear the truck. Why not just wire the Roameo to be the sideline reporters on air mic/ifb/talkback mic. That’s what we use them for and as long as your on the codec that allows for 5 beltpacks you really don’t notice a difference in quality. We wired a 5 pin to 3 pin and 1/4 inch jack for a stick mic and an in ear IFB and it works great.

I am curious, why did you not use the new trailer?
They're actually two separate production units. Believe it or not, the Flypack/trailer was also in use broadcasting another football game in another market on this day!

Great video. I’ve been looking for something like this to see how others make it work. Very helpful. I’m curious to know how your crew makes money on these events? Does the school pay, or are you paid through advertising when you do a broadcast?
Hi! With these, the station sells the advertisements (commercials and sponsorships) as a means of paying for the production and making a profit.
Curious question, you guys had a side line reporter - what system was used for the camera on the field? Was it a wireless camera or wireless?

It's been a roller-coaster of different solutions for the camera over the years. We started with a SMPTE wired camera, moved to wireless (which wasn't a very reliable system - we used Teradek), then moved to just picking them up on one of our wired Endzone cams.
What kind of optics do you guys use? I saw a Fujinon lens cap?
Hi! On this shoot, there are two Fujinon - XA20SX8.5BERM 2/3" (20x w/ 2x ext) that go in the end-zones and two Canon HJ40X14B 2/3" EFP (40x w/ 2x ext & image stabilization) that go up in the stands.

When you plugged the cords into the sort of box/ window on the outside of the truck where the inputs went, did those go straight from there into the switcher, mixer, etc? This part was at 14:15. Thank you!
Hi! Yes, some of the xlr come/ go directly to the mixer. Some of the SDI come/go to the router. Everything would come/go to some other varied piece of gear :)

What is the name of the talk back system that you use for commentary in the booth? Very enjoyable video!
Hi! The cough box itself (Whirlwind THS3) is what is supplying the addition audio line for talk back (separate from the mic out). From there, it gets mixed into the RTS intercom ODIN frame and presented to the producer and director's intercom panel as a listen-only channel. :)

what I am asking myself is, how do you pay all of this? The Trailer and additional equipment mast have been cost what? Around 150k $? You cannot tell, that you earn that by doing highschool sports?! So how is the financial plan to afford all that stuff? That would be an interesting topic for another video.
Were there any mics put out not shown here?
Hi! There is a shotgun mic for nats sound on every camera and then the talent/ ref mics. Other than that, no additional mics :)
