    "once two systems are online, more will come rapidly" ... That's an assumption too far at this point given what we've seen from the meshing tests, where the replication layer itself is the limiting factor. They've got further architectural changes to make before we get to the point new systems are an art issue, not a tech issue. The current question is if they have to further delay 4.0 for that, or whether they can get Pyro to work in the current design. Either way, don't expect to be seeing Nyx (or any other system for that matter) any time soon.
    As to setting up future funding models via Han and Chewie characters ... Honestly I don't see it.
    They said all ships will be purchasable in-game for UEC eventually - they didn't say they'd be /only/ purchaseable for UEC, which is how the community seem to have interpreted it. The current model satisfies the actual statement. There are concepts, then a ship becomes flyable, then some time later it becomes available to purchase for aUEC in game. There's no reason they can't continue the current staged model into release, just dropping the 'a' from 'aUEC'. People have collectivised that statement as if it applies to all ships simultaneously - it does not, it is valid to apply it to all ships individually, one at a time.
    There's already a secondary market for aUEC, so a CIG version of "shark cards" allowing direct purchase of UEC is a safe bet. If these take off dramatically to the point they partially replace the current funding model, *then* you might see smaller ships go straight-to-UEC.
    What they need to do before 1.0 is work out a method to avoid the accumulation of cheezed billions (which the economy team appears to be working on), and a way to selectively "fix" the account balance of cheaters, as they can't just global-wipe after we go to UEC with 1.0.

      There seems to be a an obvious balance issue when some missions are 4k, but a crate you can find quite easily sells for 250k - that is what needs balancing imo

    Sorry but I think some of your expectations for AI crew are completely pie in the sky.
    I predict 5.0 to be just homesteads and then 6.0 maybe AI crew.

      idk man, have you seen how long we've been in 3.xx? 3.0 came out in December 2017. By the time 4.0 comes out we'll have been in at least 7 YEARS of Alpha 3.0.
      AI crew seems like child's play compared to PES/Replication Layer/Server Meshing stuff.

      They want to combat x-boxing that way, but I can't even begin to imagine what kind of acrobatics they would have to do with their netcode to make that happen so I think they will find an easier solution.

      CIG changed many things thus far. They haven’t said anything about this in a long time. That means it’s old marketing fluff. Funny that Roy’s guide brought this feature up, especially since CIG doesn’t.

      Having multiple accounts would not be a requirement actually likely you'll be directly controlling individual crewmen like xcom assets
      Collecting them will incur costs per crew but they will become self-sustaining for you as cooperation under your username.
      The later stages will have trained ai based on player data, so the simulation will improve with interaction this eventually means quanta and player will be on the same level and eventually socially same level. That's the crazy part
      If ray is talking about multiple accounts that's stupid because hardly anyone outside people who like to dual task.
      The rep grind can be for every crewmen and keeping them is gonna be down to not having them kidnapped or ☠️
      Like in some cases players can catch release and hire which would be like metal gear solid V.
      This is my vision, of the future if tech keeps improving who ever makes it first patterns it gets to make bank

    I’d be happy if NPC crews and squads were the next major focus. Commandable NPCs, working in multiplayer, in large scale conflicts, while being stable and performant, has yet to be demonstrated in Star Engine. I don’t share your optimism regarding the amount of work already done for SQ42 NPCs that can be effectively reused for the PU, more shortcuts can be used in SQ42 e.g. scripted scenarios with simple AI.
    Regarding hot-swapping between Han and Chewie in order to compensate for only 90% effective AI - I suspect it’ll be too open to exploitation by both players and technical bugs to be considered a feasible feature. Alternatively, players being able to command NPCs sets the goal for the NPC, so the times where the AI systems fail (e.g. the 10%) the server can cheat a bit (e.g. teleport when stuck) and/or the player can issue new commands to work-around the issue.

    I'm a little skeptical. That said, it's obviously everybody's fantasy to have Han, Chewie, and Luke together in the same ship, so i guess we'll see!

    I like the ideas you shared in this episode, but I personally don't think there will ever be a "5.0", except if they change completely the way they call major patches for some reason. Major X.0 patches were never about features or gameplay, but technical, game engine pillars ; the barriers that stop this game from being feasible.
    - 2.0 was the first (aka "baby" as Chris called it IIRC) P.U. with the jump from 32bit to 64bit, double float precision --> A persistent open world, technically huge, multiplayer game mode, and the first steps towards an MMO-RPG.
    - 3.0 was the first Procedural Planet tech (more specifically procedural moons IIRC, but it's exactly the same tech on the procedural side). This changed completely the scope of the project.
    - 4.0 is Server Meshing. Pyro/JumpPoints don't matter. It was always about Server Meshing enabling us to expand the game, even though understandably *marketed* as "the Pyro patch".
    ...And after Server Meshing, on the tech side there won't ever be anything as substantial, there is nothing worthy of a "X.0" patch name on the technical side. Server Meshing is the last *major* tech pillar for SC.
    That's why the only reason for an "Alpha 5.0" would be a complete change in the way they name things, and that would only happen for (lame) marketing reasons.
    I *personally* think they won't change this logic, and we will get several "4.X" patches for 2 to 6 years depending on how feature-complete CIG wants "Star Citizen 1.0" (aka no longer Alpha) to be (even though development doesn't stop there), and we will also have before that a "Beta" period which could last a few months up to a year, just before the release of 1.0, and this Beta could happen on the PTU servers for everyone to try/test in depth, or maybe the Live servers.

    Engineering will make Han & Chewy dynamics in Star Citizen closer to achievable. Either can fly when needed - either can fix a problem or tend to a ship emergency if one springs up - and either or both can disembark the ship once they landed at X place to do X

    Being able to add additional character-slots to a single account rather than forcing purchase of multiple 'standalone' accounts would be a better model to allow your 'hot-swapping' between Han and Chewie... swapping between accounts feels like it would just carry too much authorisation overhead. That being said, the top 3 things I want to see brought into the game post 4.0 are dynamic server meshing, Tony Z's long-delayed Quantum sim and the Maelstrom physicalised damage model.

    The problem with remote play is, in my mind, keeping track and paying the Lukes. It makes sense if a friend jumps in my Mole and they get a share of the ore value. If they play my alt, now I need a good way to send their main the cash. Not doable with current tools.

    I do think CIG have over promised somewhat as tech debt is climbing, AI crew is one of those feature i believe will get cut, which as others have said, having a personal Han Solo or Chewbacca follow you around would be awesome

    5.0? Quit the yappin and dreamin bro.. we are at least 1 year from 4.0 and 3 years from 4.10 away… so many longtime backers will literal be too old and die before 5.0 releases in 5+ years. And even then its next year after next year after 13th flight model rework.. i beg you.. stop the yap and even more stop giving me hope. I was in school 9th class when i firs backed for this. In the time of development until now, i finished school, finished an aprenticeship, did my bachelor profesionnal in my craftmansship, moved 3 times, had 2 relstionships, founded my own company, and hired 4 people. I literal went from a little boy to a fully grown man.. and this game went from less flyable to less flyable by the minutes.

    As an avid Arma player. NPC management can be micromanaging along. But I have no problem if NPC crew are as simple as Arma NPCs.
    Being able to fit out my Hahn and Chewie NPCs will be fun
    As for guest play, I'm picturing the movie surrogate. Where they have army NPCs that troopers just spawn into

    I do like the Luke and chewy example of being able to bounce around inverse almost like Altered Carbon. However $40 for that ability is a bit steep, I do hope in the future they make a cheaper option.
    One other thing that might be worth noting is in fighting games they have a shadow system where the game learns how you play and tailors a "custom" AI, that could potentially be another option.

    I hadn't thought of a Han and Chewie setup with regards to multiple accounts - my take has been more in line with the Luke example. I suspect that Han and Chewie analogues won't really be that much of a thing simply because you've effectively got two game account characters participating in the same game experience and there won't be much point to doing that. Meanwhile, a "Luke" account character could be stationed in a star system far, far away, ready to go with a completely different game experience.

    Much easier, invite friends, from the friends list, to play as your AI. Either AI crew, or alt Account Crew.
    No need for password sharing, just an extension to the friends relationship.
    Still not sure how Luke plays as Chewie when Han is not logged in.

    I think using the star wars characters Hans, Chewie, and Luke (with Luke borrowing usage of Chewies) is a significant gameplay change that would warrant a change from 4.x to 5.0. however i wouldn't put it past CIG to add the capability within a 4.x patch and instead go to a 1.0 (beta) after 4.x.y patches are released...and then well have lots of beta versions and tjen finally a 1.0 release. But in the end the patches will be called whatever CIG wants them to. If they want to make a patch called Triggerfish...then it is the Triggerfish patch.

    Not sure how CIG will handle NPC/AI crew like the Chewie, Han and Luke idea. Ther5e has been a lot of talk about blades for turrets but I think this game really is better when you get a bunch of friends together in VC and just run around. Hopefully new systems will mean we can get longer arcs for the stories we are creating going.

    I've heard there will not be an Alpha 5.0, it'll be Beta. At least that's what I've heard on reddit when I asked about the progress on the game. There was also some replies debating this. I'm not sure 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    Not so sure about that Luke, Han and Chewie thing. We'll see what happens. It'll take server meshing to dictate how high their costs of running Star Citizen will be and how they can monetize the game beyond ship sales. 5.0 is so far out.
    But as far as the ability for friends to be able to play together goes, you do bring up a good point, and I'll be curious how CIG will solve this.

    As someone who has mostly 2-3 crew ships like the Mercury and the 400i, your comparison to Han and Chewie is spot on. I find myself solo more often than not, especially on weeknights and I could see using my extra game packs, I think I have four total, for at least one or two permanent crew members.

    The Han,Luke, and Chewie scenario you presented is one use.
    For an organized org, ships would be positioned and crewed so that in a conflict, org players would agent Smith into the NPC bodies where they are needed.

    My guess. Slow the ships down more. Make all guns insta hit if you are even pointed in the right direction and then release something with mega guns and armor that you'll have to buy if you want to compete. Also sorry Ray. I like your content but unsubscribing to SC stuff cause CIG is pissing me off too much.

    I sure hope agent Smithing is gone and stays gone. It just removes the need to plan ahead and is overly complicated to implement. But I'm sure next patch after 4.0 ain't 1.0 we still missing repairing, personnel transport, Data transport more or less fully. And the T0 implementations on most professions are lackluster at best. No armor of any sort on ships yet, might change soon tho. No NPC no real reputation system still. There is so so much missing that after 4.0 we really start needing the beef around the bones so to say.

    Selling one large ship makes more money then selling all the accounts that i can handle, so i don't think, that this is cig's plan for a post launch income stream. - If Mark Hamill is in SQ42, will we also see Han Solo and Chewbacca the Chewie Chewy monster?

    Luke playing Chewie with Han seems like it would take a lot of time to program and a lot of permissions. I like the idea since you have to buy more game packages, but I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

    Your release history is a bit off. 3.0 wasn't the PU, it was planetary landings.
    1.0 The Hangar Module
    2.0 The Persistent Universe (Port Olisar)
    3.0 Planetary Landings
    4.0 Multiple systems (Pyro)
    I'm looking forward to Alpha 5.0 (or maybe Beta 1.0?)

    I'm not sure purchasing multiple accounts would be necessary. I think if Luke was too far but wanted to join your polaris crew, his account would be enough to assume the role of an AI on your ship without any access to his own inventories and benefits.

    Thanks for talking about the long described features of the game, a lot of folks forget about it and assume it's never been though of before. Seeing how they implement the Chewie problem is one of the things that could make or break the game. Current players got used to log in an have a location reset, and having to meet up to play together. But once there's no magic "teleports" on disconnect, and you're on a far away system, playing together means being able to connect as different bodies.

    I find the idea of play Luke in guest play a good one. but i wouldn't do it through alt accounts. But to multiple game packages in one account (aka, sub accounts, bound to the 1 to rule them all).

    I like your idea of guest play, but I think we would want the guests to have some stake in the health of the NPC they are inhabiting. The last thing we want is for players to take undue risks with our NPC's.

    NPC player crew is not relevant for release as it's not relevant for the gameplay to work. As long as the game is a multiplayer game and aims for massive multiplayer I see no reason to prioritize NPC crews for players.

    Just prepare for first person master modes. When in combat mode you have acces to all your gear and your character is really fat, slow and not that agile. And when in running mode you are butt naked and athletic.

    All it would have to be is people make free accounts and they get a referal code for you to use your spare account and they make their character ect and play regularly through that. if they log off or leave the game you get to keep their AI character as a memento. if they got really generous let it be reuseable just like games back in the olden days when people shared 1 cd to run multiple copies of age of empires or Red alert ect to play together. i still remember some CDs would only let you play with the other person who used the same CD aswell and its way easier to get people to play a game that way or at least it used to be.

    Agree - I've picked up more than one account as the original idea was to have Luke drop in and join the team.

    Nope not what CIG wants multiplayer crew, you or other players to crew a bigger ships, with AI been used as pirates for missions or events and dynamics encounters.

      Chris Roberts explicitly said that AI crew will be hireable, costing more depending on their skill level, and this is repeated in the Polaris Q&A

      @realmwatters2977 As a new sc backer you couldn't know about AI as crew. They talked about it in 2014, 1017, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

    SQ42 is not finished by any stretch of the imagination. That Star Cloth, Star Destructible Environment, Star Weather System, Star Sweating, Star Final Flight Model would all have to be completed for it to be finished.

      the tech was made for sq42 and showcased to us because anything made for sq42 should be able to transition to SC,But SC needed all these server issues fixed before it could start building and moving the other features over which is why its been stalled out and why they needed to focus on the single player game until the server issues could be solved.

    Funny, I was just thinking, while watching a different streamer, that when NPC crewmembers are available, likely "AI Blades" will also be released or soon after (I hope the former). ;-)
    I'm wondering if #3 "Guest Play" could be used for me to "Rent out" a ship (Prospector, RAFT, Vulcan, etc...) to an Orgmate (at a fair rate of 5K aUEC + 10% of profit)?
    Who gets a "Crime Stat" if friend performs illegal acts with my ship (rented out)?

      crime stat goes with the player, not the ship. Ship rentals have been discussed as a possibility but not as firm a promise as using multiple game packages as NPCs

      They slowered the ships because it's just too damn hard to deal damage at a range without making close range instakill, and also the light fighter meta. If they make it so each size of weapon deals bonus damage against ships that can't handle size 5 shields or whatever, maybe it'd work. Also, npcs move like donkeys so slowing things down helps with them not ramming everything. Overall I say the power triangle needs buffed (or nerfed for what it's powering less), remove master modes, and just do a slower transition for triangle effects. As it stands now a reclaimer literally cannot qt away before dying to a light fighter.

    I like your example of Han and Chewbacca, but the idea of needing to own multiple copies of the game or multiple paid accounts doesn't sit well with me. Hopefully there will be a way to achieve the same thing by making progress in the game as opposed to the pledge store.

    I think even if they did a Luke warm, timid little step into crewing by getting the blade system going earlier rather than later, people would be happy. But it seems kind of silly they haven't done that yet. They legitimately already have AI controlled turrets on ships that players have ended up flying. What was the point of the voting thing back in 2020 where they said they'd start working on automation (if I recall correctly) if they haven't done a single thing with it yet?The people elected the candidate who was poised to being about that... And yet Hurston last I checked still has the political signs up. They like, did it as hype, and then nothing?

      LOL, it was nothing to do with directing development, it was to do with game lore. It is a shame that we've heard nothing from the lore team about it since, though...
