    THANK you for stating at the BEGINNING why you clipped her. Thank you for understanding that not all owners are trying to keep your pocketbook lean - that some of us do want to take care of our babies and hopefully what we do at home helps them to be less stressful for you as a groomer! The more I watch and learn, the more I appreciate the art of grooming and appreciate you as a professional!

    Thank you very much for sharing. We also own Cavi and did tons of research... although they are not supposed to be shaved or cut short as they don't have 2 layers coat but only 1.... you did well. the same for feet... grinch feet is the look for this breed... you did well and I understand why you did it.. I like how gentle you were with him.

    Amy when you get a chance I’d love to see you do a proper Cavalier groom. I guess this girl was a special case, but I literally have nightmares that my boy will come home from the groomer looking like a Cocker Spaniel LOL … So I’m researching online trying to learn how to groom him at home myself, deshedding/carding his coat, tidying paws & sanitary area, and shortening furnishings with blending shears to keep his beautiful natural look. Thanks! I love how you are empowering pet owners to care for our pets!

    Hi Amy! I’ve been grooming for 2 months and did my first Cavy today 🥰 I definitely felt like I was winging it because even though I’m a “grooming trainee”, my salon leader was not around to tell me what to do. So tonight I decided to hop on TH-cam and watch some Cavy grooming videos! ❤

    Wow Amy, your groom is a perfect transformation! Snuggles seemed to handle the stress of a likely first pro groom really well; a true benefit of your knowledge in quickly assessing and envisioning the best groom for both the pet and owner, and skill in dealing with the coat and calmly and confidently interacting with the dog throughout the process. So great to view your scissoring techniques, as well. Thanks for sharing and teaching!

    My husband brought this to me to watch as I groom our cavaliers. He liked that you left so much of the coat. We live in hot hot Houston. I keep them trimmed to puppy cut from April to November bc that’s just too much hair I weighed it once and it’s 4lbs of fur. Also I never trim the face. I did like the way you did the paws. Thanks learned a few things.

    My breeder, who has over 25 years experience breeding and showing Cavaliers all over the world, strongly advised against ever shaving my dog’s hair short like this because it’ll grow back thick and curly like the dog in the video rather than flat and silky as a Cavalier’s coat should be. Cavaliers, btw, have a single coat, rather than a double coat. It looks like this is not this dog's first haircut, given what my breeder said.
    If you want to keep your dog’s coat flat and silky as it should be, brush daily and don't ever, ever allow the coat to be shaved off down to the skin.

      Her coat was clipped prior to becoming a client with me. Conditioning is the key factor in maintaining this coat properly. Brush often and bath/conditioner every three weeks.

    • @GabrielBadwolf
      @GabrielBadwolf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What you talking about, the fact they’re double coated is why they say not to shave them because the undercoat doesn’t grow back in properly. They’re definitely double coated dogs.
      No shade on Go Groomer for shaving that coat. It’s already messed up and would probably be less stress on the dog to just shave that off.

      @@GoGroomer The title of your video, though, gives people looking to do a DIY groom all the wrong information about doing it properly. Given this discussion, I'm surprised you haven't added some kind of caveat warning people that this was only done because the dog's coat was not properly cared for and had been clipped very short before. Hopefully, people will read this discussion. I'd hate to see a dog's perfectly good coat be potentially ruined.

    Wow! You did a beautiful job on this sweet and well-behaved dog! We have a 5 month old Cavapoo/Cavoodle (Cavalier/Poodle mix), and she has proven very difficult to even just brush; she keeps turning around to try and bite the brush! She’s a squirmy pup, too. I was surprised how well Snuggles did when you worked on her ears. Cavaliers are known for having sensitive ears and strongly averse to having their ears simply touched, let alone groomed as well as you did. Our pup doesn’t like her ears touched at all. I’m afraid our groomer is going to have a challenge on her hands! If we lived anywhere near you, I’d love to have you as our girl’s groomer. Good job! 🐶💞💞

      @@magamagagaga Amy from Go Groomer has some great videos on how to give a dog a bath. Check them out! She has a bathing system, but you don't need high tech tools to give a good bath. I just thoroughly wet the dog, and then wet the loofah and then put a small amount of dog shampoo on it after the dog's coat is thoroughly wet. Then gently run the loofah over the dog's body. It will soap nicely and makes it easy to cover the dog evenly. I use a separate loofah for the conditioner. Be sure to rinse, rinse, rinse between each application of product. Enjoy your Cavalier. They are a wonderful dog breed.

    Thank you so much for this particular video. I had just started back grooming for a franchise after a 7 year break and my confidence was a bit low. I had a lovely Cav booked in for a full clip. They wanted the furnishings kept which I did. He also had a fluffy coat and I chose to use a number 7 on the top line and blend. He looked gorgeous and I was proud. Well the owners went off!! I mean really off. I am good with confrontation and staying calm. I referred them immediately to my manager. They got a refund but kept their next appointment. They are first time Cav owners and the breeder told them to never clip a Cav ever. They were under the impression the coat on the top line was like a drop coat breed. The wife told me I had ruined their dog etc 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ She was almost crying. My manager was on my side. They were a no show to the next appointment they specifically asked to keep but I wouldn’t want to see them again anyway 😳 I know that Cav’s get carded but his coat wasn’t up to scratch and he wasn’t a show dog (I only groom pets) What an ordeal 😂😂🐾🐾

      This is an amazing video to watch and a dramatic transformation. The groomer is obviously very experienced. That being said, I would be shocked and horrified if I returned for my Cavalier and found him with this cut. His beautiful fur is a feature of the breed, even if not a show dog. Please be sure your clients know what to expect. Once shaved, a Cavalier’s coat will never be the same silky texture as before.

    • @cassandranegri2052
      @cassandranegri2052 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Rebecca, I am usually a great communicator and felt confident that we both understood what was going to happen in the groom. I had just taken over from another groomer who resigned without warning and had been thrown into trying to get through too many appointments. I did feel really bad. I didn’t take furnishings/feathering down and left them quite long and just trimmed. They recently rang to book in again but I don’t feel comfortable with them so my manager agreed to do bath and nails only. His coat is still silky which is a relief. Hopefully she will find another groomer soon or even better she can watch Go Groomer and do it at home. I didn’t shave her dog down like most spaniels in my local area get done but the top line was. After this I have been over the top with repeating what my clients ask for just in case.

I’ve seen three different grooms on Cavaliers today and yours was by far the best. You were able to get a stunning result and the dog was comfortable and happy throughout the groom. With one groom that I watched the groomer never said one kind word to the dog and was frightening and rough during the bath. I was horrified! I have a tricolor cavalier whose coat is long and straight but very fine and thick so he often looks bushy even though I use flattening products. I've always done his grooming and I love the look of the long skirts but it is a lot of work. So I'm thinking about giving him a partial cut this spring/summer but not nearly as much as you've done with this girl. I actually prefer the complete natural look of this breed and don't want to turn my boy into a cocker spaniel look.
    So using your tips I think I will trim off the top and use the thinning shears to take the weight off his legs without losing the skirt entirely. The side skirts, which would typically graze the ground if I let them, I'll trim those up to about the knees I guess.
    Also, I usually shave his belly in the hot months but if I go too wide then his skirts look to thin - which is not attractive.
    If you post replies I would appreciate any advice, suggestions or comments.

    Hi Amy, I've really enjoyed many of your TH-cam videos the last couple weeks! I have a new little guy (Bailey) Cavalier King Charles and I'm looking to set myself up to be able to groom him. My overall question for you is what combination of shears, etc would work best for the CKC breed?
    I've been looking at Kenchii and a few varieties seem to stand out to me, namely the T-series, the Five Star series and the Shinobi series. Your Sapphire series with the even handle curved shear is nice since it can be used inside or outside (good versatility!).
    Kenchii makes a nice slicker brush and I will definitely be getting one of those. The Kenchii rakes look very nice for carding but I'm not sure if a 40 tooth or a 23 tooth would be best for the CKC breed? Kenchii is running a Black Friday sale this weekend and I'm hoping to order some stuff soon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Again, many thanks for the videos 🙂

    I've been waiting for this grooming video for a while. Snuggles is so sweet and very calm considering it was her first professional groom. That was a lot of undercoat :O never thought a small dog could have so much undercoat.
    I groomed my Cavalier using one of your previous Spaniel mix videos and also used your Golden Retriever de-shedding video. Cavaliers can be small but they shed a lot of fur, it's crazy. And my Cavalier doesn't even have that much undercoat like Snuggles does.
    Thank you for sharing your techniques with us!

    Do you have any tips toward taking care of the coat on a female sterilized Cavalier? She was sick and had her uterus removed in July 2022 and since then her coat has gone crazy, so thick and curly even though I brush her every day, carful cut off any knots that I can't brush out, she is showered and shampooed each week. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Amy, I'm not a professional groomer, just a dad to a wonderful Cavalier King Charles youngster. Specifically, I'm wondering if I should just get a Kenchii Level 3 (Shinobi or other?) 46 or finer blender or if I would be better off getting a Level 2, 3 piece set (fine blender, curved and straight shear)?

    I brought my Cavalier to the groomers and they cut the underneath of his ears very short and now my cavy is shaking his head all the time and seems very uncomfortable. Is there anything I can do for him? Is it because his hair is too short or is it dry and I should condition it? I don't know if I should give him another bath or not.
