I never knew about a cavalier, until my mom got a puppy (at 80 years old). She couldn't handle him, so she gave him to me. Best dog I ever had. I have never had a dog this good. We have a big rug in the living room, and a couple pee pads on there... he has NEVER missed the rug, ever. I know he would never go potty in a corner of some room. He is very sensitive.

They're *all* very sensitive. It's a breed trait. My current Blenheim Cav, 5, seems to be fine when I cannot take him with me, but I try to come home asap just to be with him again.

What did your mom have problem with because I am 80 and planning first cavalier

If you Mom had had dogs before, her first Cavalier should not have been a problem. If not, one has to get used to any puppy and all the behaviors that come with one.

@@joanmatlaga6682 Lots of energy, has to be walked on a long walk twice a day. They are barkers. They are really chill after a couple years, but as a puppy, they are a handful. Maybe try to get an older one.

My Ruby coloured 4.5 month old is treated like one of the family, she can be naughty sometime like ripping up a few plants, but me and my family are slowly getting on top of that and she is just as family as us humans.. love her so much (Luna) ❤

Researching any breed is important to be sure the dog is a good fit for your lifestyle. We were careful to learn as much as possible about Cavies before adopting one. We have plenty of space, lots of love to give, and in general all of the things on your list were discussed before getting a Cavie pup. Four years later and he is our world, well socialized with people and animals. The neighbor kids adore him. The only thing we need to continue to work on with our Cavie is loud noises( fireworks, thunder, smoke alarms, etc.) The loving sensitive nature of this breed has me a fan for life 😊

My dogs a free fed and they will walk past the bowl and completely ignore it or take 2 to 3 bits of food and that's it.......
I've had 3 of these dogs all of them have been amazing dogs but sadly my 9 month old has a luxating patella... so off we go to surgery
They are worth it though we have put little Emma on pain killers until the vet can see her and perform the surgery..
I would not change my girls for anything. They have helped me so much
Whilst I will say this is the best breed out there if you are after a small dog I would also say do you research so you know about the breed before you buy and buy from a respected and reputable breeder and always keep in mind that any breeder can not rule out all health problems even with all the health checks

And make sure you find a breeder who is trying to breed out physical problems as much as possible.

My neighbor has one of these dogs, but its actually his wife's. He comes over to watch the game with Me but has to bring the dog along because it starts to howl and cry for hours when nobody is at home. It used to insist on trying to get on my couch and eat everything loose on the floor. My neighbor finally taught it some discipline, He whips his dog with his belt so hard he has crapped on my floor before, and I told him to stop and find another way to keep his dog in line. Now has a shock collar on him. He is afraid when he comes over to watch the games but at least he sits in the corner and shakes and behaves himself. He gently walks up to my neighbor when he needs to go to the bathroom and he brings him food and treats to keep him fed. I hate the dog too but hey, its quality bro time.
