  • Here is the evolution of testings for the Funnel Gold Concentrator Nugget Bucket Trap trying to get 1/4" classification to work through it. This shows the process I went through for it to work and shows some of the problems I encountered along the way.

    The Nugget Bucket seems to be working well. It can only catch the gold that you put in it and i think it done that good job with it.

      Thanks Tazzie , That is very true, it can only ketch what you give it to ketch! :) Thanks for Watching!

    A gravity syphon to provide constant water would be sweet.🤔

    • @CDCGoldProspecting
      @CDCGoldProspecting  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sure would make it a whole lot easier to use. Lately I had been pre-classifying it and only using the 1/8" green classifier. Makes it a little easier. My video Cheap gold bucket classifiers shows me doing it that way. But I might have to try making a gravity siphon hose and try it out! Thanks for the comment my friend!

    I love DIY stuff, It seems to be working if it caught that little fly poop and that nice sized piece of lead and nothing in the secondary catch... Keep up the good work.

    Remember the nugget bucket recommends you put stones in the collection tray to keep nuggets from blowing out if that does not slow the flow enough you can put a stone on the mouth of the funnel to slow the draining of the water. JMO

      Yea good points. I have tried putting some stones on top of a miners moss at the bottom. That does really work at helping you ketch the really small pieces of gold. If you classify the material down to 1/8 inch, this version, I made, pretty much captures all of it. If you try doing the 1/4 inch classifying, you end up losing some of the really small pieces, at least from my experiments. Thanks for the suggestions and comment!

      It seemed to work best with 1/8" classification. 1/4" works, but funnel gets clogged every once in a while.

    I do like the way this system works, it must be a fairly wild area that you are working in when you have to carry a gun for protection. We do not have that problem up in Canada.

    • @CDCGoldProspecting
      @CDCGoldProspecting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, yea that is just a little 22 gun with snake shot bbs in it. I Try not to hurt any snakes, but there are rattlesnakes and cottonmouth snakes around. So usually just carry it to be on the safe side.

    Great video of the evolution of your DIY nugget bucket, you are getting gold so it is successful, if it is catching the fine gold it will catch the bigger gold.

      Thanks, yea I was actually surprised at some of the small pieces of gold it ketches, especially if it is classified down to 1/8" material.

      Thanks :). yea this vid was basically just going through all the stages it took in order to get it to work. It works pretty good, just need to find a better way to classify and solve amount of constant bucket water filling it takes to get it to work. Thanks for watching it! :)

      Yea works pretty good for being homemade. Found out works better if you pre-classify it down to 1/4 inch and just use one classifier on the top of the bucket (the 1/8") one. Thanks for checking it out!

    Who doesn't love an innovator? Keep working at it and you'll get it sorted out. Not sure if I missed it in an earlier video, but is this idea based on something else, or is it originally yours?
    Either way, recreating something like this or designing it from scratch is a great character builder.
    Best of luck

    • @CDCGoldProspecting
      @CDCGoldProspecting  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Damon. No there is a similar product out there, but my main purpose was to get it where I did not have to classify down past 1/4". Where the original one you have to classify down to 1/8". Also wanted to add a secondary ketch tray to capture smaller pieces of gold too that might get blown out of the 1st collection tray.
      Thanks for checking it out!

    Wonder if the shape of the downward water jet/flow is important to create proper fluid bed action. As in, you may want a nicely tapered flow out the bottom of the funnel instead of that turbulent flow clinging to sides of the larger funnel. Maybe compare your flow / water column shape to videos of the real deal in action.

    • @CDCGoldProspecting
      @CDCGoldProspecting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I came to the same conclusion. I did quite a bit of tests and my first model had no little funnel in the device at all. that is why I added a smaller funnel into the big funnel to concentrate the flow. However all the tests I did after adding the smaller funnel showed that if you classify it down to a 1/8" it loses no gold at all. It was rare to ever find a piece in the overflow ketch container.

      @@CDCGoldProspecting That's cool. I was looking into building my own a while back and the large enough diameter funnels seem pretty hard to find. I've already got the classifier screens so the funnel is the challenge. Would be cool to hook up my cheap little 12v (1100gph) pump to speed up processing. I saw there are footpedal switches on amazon to turn it on and off as you want water added intermittently. Maybe use a simple spring loaded clamp or rig something to hold a water hose at top of bucket. Brainstorming, as usual. I already have a folding backpack sluice but they can be a hassle to set up just right.

    • @CDCGoldProspecting
      @CDCGoldProspecting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea those are all great ideas. I had thought of some of those too. But most places I go don't allow electric pumps. That is the hard part, the constant filling it with water. The funnel I used, I believe I linked to on amazon but it says it is out of stock. I used a 12" or 30 cm beer funnel and then just cut a smaller size funnel to make the hole more narrow.
