      wrong. They stayed because they want to seize the assets that belong to the peaceful hardworking older generation. They use all kinds of dirty tricks to harass people who had been working hard to build up HK society and provide them education. They want to use mental tortures and human struggling to make older generation kill themselves or live miserably. These are innocent people who got nothing to do with politics. Is it fair? Is that what you guys called social justice?

      As admirable as it’s, they should’ve known this is a lost cause. Peoples making mistake thinking freedom and democracy always come peacefully. It’s not. Sometimes there’s no other way other than self defence. That’s what 2nd amendment is for. So when the time comes (hopefully never will), citizens has the right and POWER to make a change.

    The protesters plans of linking up with Macau, the Taiwanese, Tibet or Xinjiang activists is a bad idea, because they are considered outsiders by most of the rest of China. The government will just use an 'us vs them' campaign to turn most of the mainlanders against the protesters, and just outwait them again while the rest of China goes on about its business. You need actual support and sympathy from the mainland to effect any pressure on the party.
    This will probably take a long time, years if not a decade but it will come, because if there is any constant in history it is that ALL governments falter and THAT is the time to push them for concessions. An economic slowdown is coming, and more and more people will be questioning whether the party is still holding up its end of the social contract. That would be the time to get support and have an actual chance at getting concessions from the government.

They treated the pro-Government people very nicely even though they punched and humiliated to students and the police LET THEM GO. Meanwhile, students didn't do much and were abused by police and law were enforced so intense that a single act will be questioned for 2 days.

    China gave up Hong Kong to UK after the Opium War. Over 100 years Hong Kong was under the UK colonial status. China should give Hong Kong a special status and enforce the One Country Two Laws system.
    This should be China behind the chaos to blame on US through the push of the HK leader. If the riot mobs supported by US, do you think they are stupid enough to put up a US flag and played the US music? The HK police do not speak Canto and they are People Republic army came from the China to Hong Kong bridge. These China military police in Hong Kong do not carry an ID and no police number. They also fight like China soldiers.

    Hong Hong is a special administrative region, China only has two sdr, HK and Macau, special administrative means that Hong Kong government have their own decision to choose the path of Hong Kong and China don’t have the right to disturb Hong Kong’s governances (一國兩制), and now the chief executive of HK is all promoted by mainland China, China’s action of promoting the chief executive of HK is completely against the rule(一國兩制), HK citizen can’t choose the chefs executive who is best if them, that’s why they are so angry about the Beijing government.

    Honk Kong is a perfect example of Westernization being superior to being enslaved by China. The reason why Hong Kong is a pretty nice place to live in because British colonialism kept it independent from mainland China. Now that Britain granted Hong Kong its independence in the '90s and China's economy and military continues to grow, they're starting to get dragged into slavery under the Chinese regime. So, for all of the people that just love to blame Western colonialism for all of the world's problems, the examples of Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea prove that Western colonialists were relatively benevolent with their colonies.

    • @FireRocker01
      @FireRocker01 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Money certainly plays a factor and corporations can "sponsor" candidates that they share common interest with but at the end of the day, people vote.
      Ron Paul was probably the "Least Corrupt" politician and the people did not vote for him.
      And the two party system is pretty diverse, You have progressives, Libertarians, Tea Party, Etc....

    Most of what is happening in HK comes down to imperialism and colonialism. The British held Hong Kong as their colony for decades and colonialist ideology still has a strong hold in the city, the colonialism is expressed by so-called "democratic" opposition and hatred of "mainlanders", many Hong Kong citizens do not even think of themselves as Chinese, only Western. It's unfortunate that this type of repression happens, but ultimately Hong Kong is China and the Chinese government need to assimilate it into the rest of the country - which will have resistance. It's the same deal in the Indian province of Goa, which was a Portuguese colony until the Indians took it by force, many citizens there think of themselves as Portuguese, because of colonialism.

  • @WhatDehFish
    @WhatDehFish 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    People coming from a western democracy will never hope to understand the cultural differences that are present. The very reason why this movement failed is because it was pushed by a group of narrow idealistic thinkers trying to move the region faster than it can adapt. You don't get to be an economical superpower in less than a century with partisan democracy slowing down every piece of legislation. China has a lot more to develop, a lot more to progress and it can't afford to play nice with every group there is.
    Democracy will eventually exist but probably not in the form that we're use to. AND, Hong Kong do have some form of a democratic process and they enjoy the most freedom out of all the regions in China. I just hope that people aren't so quick to pass down judgement on a region that they have no connection to and start waving the democracy boners because we all know how that went in Libya. Started from the top and now at the bottom...

    1. you wear a mask to cover the face
    2. you wear anything else to cover your identity, including umbrellas
    3. you carry anything what is usable as a weapon, including any kind of sticks or umbrella
    4. to throw big stones or petrol bottles against the police is a murder attempt
    5. to carry flags or signs od not allowed organisations
    6. taking pics of the police is a reason to destroy the cam immediately, or to take away the cam and to arrest you.

For me personally, I rather the government, the country and its people to worry about their own issues and let HK ppl solve their problems themselves, even if there are HK people who feel HK is part of China. Just let them sort it out amongst themselves,while Mainland Chinese ppl can worry about their country and their government. That is, for the longest time Great Britain never attempted to introduce democracy to Hong Kong. In the end, Hong Kong never did became a democracy under Great Britain. It is surprising I know.

      But anyways as Britain did a relatively good job in establishing the freedom, rule of law and anti-corruption institutions like ICAC and the economic prosperity of Hong Kong, the people of Hong Kong did not clamour for democracy much like today.

      +Leah Pugh The Chief Executive was encouraging people to go to Mong Kok, which was the stage of occupation, right after the "clear stage" finished. Then the "customers" went to Mong Kok and kept protesting by using the name of "gau-wu".

    Someone should consider opening an arms smuggling organization to hong-kong. My guess is if they had guns, AT launchers, and AA guns, things would be much different :)

      SImon .Chen Too smart? They are still under occupation and their 'intelligence' sure didn't help anything. When you look at other regions in the world:
      -Egypt => got rid of its' dictators through violence
      - Libya => Got rid of its' leader through violence as well (although lack of leadership created a continued civil war for dominance).
      - Tunisia => Got rid of its' leaders and pushed for reform with violent protests.
      - Cuba => Same story...
      When there is a will to fight, there come results. The land belongs only to the one who is willing to fight for it, and if Hong-Kong residents are not willing to fight, they will NEVER get true freedom.

      Leon Campa results? yes they got rid of one dictator but what stops another one from coming in? if im not wrong most of the countries you mentioned have became a war zone especially Libya. violence simply tears the country into pieces. Darkness cannot drive out Darkness only light can do that, Violence cannot drive out Violence only love can do that

      New_PoV Which why I said organization and leadership is important. The protesters need to elect a leader of their own, even if it is not recognized by the party running the government, and announce that they name them as their interim leader until they gain the full right to democracy

    0:22 One might suggest that what the police are fighting for is Chinese martial tradition, believing in Guan Yu , that wealth arises from wisdom and war. At least the people of HK feel no great need to establish a bastion of their own, within which they may become trapped, by way of murder group circuiting (aka as uniting, or joining together in a halo). May their wisdom be of longevity of purpose, as opposed to futility of endeavour.
