That beauty you've bought is waaaay better than anything else out there. The fuel consumption is actually not bad for such an over engineered understressed engine and drivetrain. It is an amazing machine. It is way better than a 2.8 4 cylinder and will last you forever with basic maintenance. I've driven 4x4's for 40 years from FJ45 Cruisers to Landrovers of all descriptions to Willys Jeeps and now a Mahindra double cab s6 Karoo 4x4 ( which is the best value for money I can afford). If I could I'd buy what you've got in a heartbeat. I've s ent my life in the Southern African Bush lugging all kinds of loads through virgin Bush and the worst tracks imaginable and the only thing that lasts long enough to get your investment back is a Cruiser. Thus, it is the cheapest, safest most enjoyable vehicle you could buy for the job. Well done! May I come and work on the station?!
How do you like the Mahindra mate? Nothing wrong with that rig hey, the best vehicle is the one you've got I always say to people! Just get out and use it haha. That's interesting you've driven allot of different 4wds over the years. Seems the Mahindras are gaining in popularity even here in Australia, you don't really see many around but you do see them.
Love the taurpse beige paint , still many people's favourite crusier color, or white , silver is OK red metallic good for 4 washes then it swirls unless your very careful upon washing

It's me again... Andrew St. Pierre White knows what he's about, I'd pay attention but also weigh it up against what you know about your own conditions. He's on the button about 2.8's not being V8 killers by the way. The V8 will outlive and outperform a 2.8 any day. The v8 is not even breaking a sweat where the 2.8 is at the outer envelope of it's tuning capacity. Don't lt anyone bullsh*t you about that. You'll see it in the maintenance, repair and therefore cost of ownership figures over the investment period. I.e you'll get decades more use out of the V8 compared to the 2.8 over it's lifetime. Lazy use equals long life simple as that. Thank you for sharing your great way of life with us old time Bush guys, very much appreciated. You're way better off than in a Hilux. Well done.
G'day mate, no worries at and thankyou much appreciated, I do enjoy ASPW I really like he's work. I've had two Hilux's and they were good rigs, I hated auto and much preferred the manual with the 2.8. To be back in another LandCruiser though is something else, I regretted selling my previous 79!
I work in mining, and these cars are the only LV's that last what we put them through! The alternatives are nicer and better to drive but can't take abuse like 70's
I think that your using the Ute as a daily is more interesting than a proper car test from the different testers. They go out for a day on a test track and give a verdict. I prefer to watch your daily driving in real world conditions like we all do.
Mate I feel the exact same way, and I really want to show people exactly that, the day to day use, rain hale or shine, and what the outcome of that is, thanks
Just also with fuel economy, those engines vary widely depending on the oil you put in them and it is entirely likely that they come with thicker oil from factory to help with break in. Not too keen on the front end look but must say it looks good out there where it should be aha. I have the older HDJ79 and I'll be holding onto it til it either rusts away or I can't afford to keep it moving - but so far it looks like it wont be doing either anytime soon!
Yeah fair call mate, well I'm pretty sure the dealers will put 5w30 in them, I need to run 15w40 really. I'd be keeping your rig aswell, you'll have it forever! Thanks 👍
Just with the rear track the biggest issue is with towing as can be very unstable . We fitted Tru tack correction which was the best mod I have done . You may be totally fine if you’re not towing . Love your videos. Love seeing what you do in the station
Loved the tour of your farm and thrilled for you to have good rain and see you brake the new car in ,,, the guy with Triton boasting about fuel economy, well get ya Triton towing what the crusier does if it can tow it , then drive off road towing with your Triton, bet it's not match for the crusier, and Mitsubishi Triton 4wd is just 1 wheel at front and just 1 wheel at back , weak lsd if it's fitted at all , thank God they fixed this issue with the crusier, cos they suffered badly too with weak lsd , now a locker option on front and back ,, about time toyota, such a brilliant vehicle why not widening rear axle to match the front , I find dual cabs to feel unco in corners but love the car

Thanks for going to the trouble of putting it together. 👍👏🍻 And yes mate, feral animals do need to be managed... otherwise we'd have no native Australian animals left... would love to see a vid on a camel 'farm to plate' so to speak. Very interesting up load today. 👍 cheers.
@@OutbackOffroadNT I was thing about your 12v system you want to put in, I think maybe just a 100/120ahr battery, dcdc charger and 350w/500w inverter behind the rear seat and just run a cable to the tray with Anderson plug to power and accessories like your fridge ect. Keep your camera charger etc inside the cab ???? Just a thought. Keeps it simple and does not cost the price of half another vehicle just for a 12v system.

Seriously, someone comparing a Triton, fuel economy or not 😂😅😂😅😂😅 I'd give the Triton 15ys service, maybe go through 3 different ownerships before its completely knackered.. 79 series will last 30+yrs, probably 10 different owners and will still be going as strong as it was on its first day. .
Love the colour, it’s such a great colour. Are you going to change the tyres or you happy with the stock? If you gonna get seat covers, try the Black Duck 4 elements, I highly recommend them.
Cheers mate, the plan is to run this stock and just show people what can be done without modifying everything straight away, I'll do things here and there along the way, I'll run these tyres until they give me dramas then go for some decent 3 ply sidewall 10 ply tread LT tyres, I'll fit a small canopy in a couple weeks when it rocks up.
I've got a 2014 VDJ79R Landcruiser ute with the 1VD-FTV V8 (250,000K's) it weighs in at 2950Kg with two people onboard with 285/75R16 tyres and I measure my fuel economy on the fuel calculator website each & every fill and get 11.2L - 12.5L per 100K's. The 285/75R16 corrected the speedo readout to the GPS speed to within 1% at 100Kmh.
@@OutbackOffroadNT I've got a 3" TORQIT exhuast too which increased the power enough to make a new under warranty factory clutch slip on acceleration on hills so I went the billet flywheel NPC 1300Nm clutch kit, no problems since.
I'm thinking about fitting the torqit 3.5 dpf back for this, Berrima diesel mob have said the dpf model cruisers clutch is different and is good for more power. How much more power I don't know.
@@OutbackOffroadNT I ordered the muffler, resonator & straight pipe section for my stainless TORQIT exhuast. The muffler is still new, the resonator has dirt on it & the straight pipe is what I like. Look into an EGR blanking plate & a Provent 200 catch can when it's out of warranty. ADR approved stainless steel braided brake lines are the go as are DBA XP pads front and rear to make it stop better.
Watch my walkthrough vid mate, I go through the vehicle in detail including bonnet, bonnet has a crush zone for pedestrian impacts, manufacturers have to keep up with these ever increasing safety rules etc.
New to the channel. The car certainly fits the environment- ands its colour ! Thx for sharing. What’s the general location in NT of the station and how big ? Will you run with the standard tyres the vehicle came with or change them to something better (tougher)? Cheers
Thanks mate, Alice Springs area, I'm planning on running this rig fairly stock for a while, will definitely change tyres early if they let me down to much. Go straight to a 3 ply sidewall, 10 ply tread. Forgot to mention mate the place is about 2500 square km not the biggest around here
Nice truck mate,I know it’s a bit hard to do while your doing your rounds, but not good doing all that idling on a new motor, need to put a bit of load on them when running in or they can be oil burners for life
That's a solid point mate, and maybe I shouldn't do that, but that day for example I did so many solid hours of driving so I hope it's all good, a lot of hills to on the highway
I miss the simplicity of my Dad’s 1995 Tacoma Xcab 4x4 V6 manual with crack windows and manual locks. Wish I could have rebuilt it when 1 cylinder lost compression. I really wish we could get the LC79 Ute here, I would take a similar engine and transmission but I think I prefer the crank windows. I which my current car didn’t have digital Air Con.
Are u going to do an early oil & filter change just to get rid of any new-car wear-in metal fragments that may shed from the break-in of the engine? I only ask cause this V8 engine is a bit of an old-school engine
Did u ever consider getting the V8 troopcarrier LandCruiser workhorse with all the Vinal floors, seats etc & all your tools and valuables secured .... instead of getting the canopy ?
Not a bad thought mate, but no good for what I do, I need to be extremely versatile, one day a 300 kg generator could be in the tray, the next fuel drums...
All models are available in 4 cylinder auto, all models are available in v8 manual except the workmate 76. And you still cannot place an order for a v8 at this time.
To be honest I've had two hiluxs, and I can't really fault them, I flogged them pretty good, the cruiser feels stronger, chassis/components are a lot bigger/thicker they feel like a tank to drive, good solid axle rig takes a bit to get used to, I love them
I did 450,000 trouble free K's in my Hilux V6 petrol VZN167R then sold it when the chassis started to stress crack around the rear towbar mounts & tray mount towers. I liked the electric windows & better adjustment seats in my Hilux but the V8 Landcruiser is more fun & can do more without killing it.
From about October/November all cars made after then become the next model year for the most part. Currently our Tacomas here in the US are still 2023’s not sure when they were produced.
I think it's important to show people how hard life is in the Bush I would like to see a video of you Colin A camel and showing what the meat looks like when it's cooked I would love to taste camel
@@OutbackOffroadNT Correct & f'n dangerous. When your tyres wear out up the tyre size to 285/75R16 & you can't notice it. The bigger tyres run smoother on the dirt, are road & insurance legal, correct the speedo read out & wear heaps better too. I run Toyo Open country AT2.

Wish they would bring this truck to the states. Such a beautiful truck.
Hey thanks mate, I reckon I'll do a vid on camels, seems to be a fair amount of interest!
Excellent info, thanks mate, a bloke just commented similar economy as you in his 2015, I hope mine settles the same.
Yeah no worries mate, lots of things to think about! The catch can debate is lively to say the least, some say yes some say no... it's interesting
Not a bad ute
I like it 👌
Hi mate. Great review, amazing country we have also. Does you bonnet vibrate. I watched another review who found his did.
Watch my walkthrough vid mate, I go through the vehicle in detail including bonnet, bonnet has a crush zone for pedestrian impacts, manufacturers have to keep up with these ever increasing safety rules etc.
They say you don't need to do a oil change before 10K but I would do one before that oil is cheap
Yes oil changes are listed at 10,000km from Toyota, but it's definitely not a bad thing to service earlier, cheers
👌
New to the channel. The car certainly fits the environment- ands its colour ! Thx for sharing. What’s the general location in NT of the station and how big ?
Will you run with the standard tyres the vehicle came with or change them to something better (tougher)?
Cheers
Thanks mate, Alice Springs area, I'm planning on running this rig fairly stock for a while, will definitely change tyres early if they let me down to much. Go straight to a 3 ply sidewall, 10 ply tread. Forgot to mention mate the place is about 2500 square km not the biggest around here
@@OutbackOffroadNTit will get stolen by indigenous juveniles out there, you haven't mentioned anything about the antitheft features
If you are interested, the name of that bird is a Brown Falcon.
Beautiful mate thanks
Hi Mate, what was the production month for your vehicle? Just wondering as my Troopy v8 gxl is due next month so sure if I’m getting facelifted one?
September mate 👌
Are in a station outside Alice spring. Did they take people camping?
For reference mate my 2015 single cab 79 series uses between 11.5-12.5 litres per hundred its got approximately 150k on the clock
Thanks mate, gee that's not to bad at all, I hope mine settles to around that
Supposedly you get better fuel economy in the pre DPF models
Hmm that's interesting especially considering these models quoted economy figures are better, I'm keen to see where it sits
My 2009 single cab long term average is 12.72 lphk. Done a bit over 290k.
14 L per 100Km is quite nice for a car of that size. It's about 7km per litter.
It's getting better, it's down to 13.5 now
Are u going to do an early oil & filter change just to get rid of any new-car wear-in metal fragments that may shed from the break-in of the engine?
I only ask cause this V8 engine is a bit of an old-school engine
Yes, good question mate, I definitely will be!
bore runner days! lovely! Where are you located in the NT?
That's it mate! South NT 👍
OK I've just subscribed so I can see a camel cook up 😆
Haha, legend 🙌
Nice vid mate. 1000k in three days ha ha.
Can you do a vid of the farm life if you have time
Yeah a lot of roads driven mate, I've done a couple vids on the property, but yes for sure I'll do an in depth video soon, thanks
@@OutbackOffroadNT
I cannot wait to drive my LC78. If I can sleep 4-5 months straight will do it to get closer. Haha
Keep it touch
Yep I know the feeling of waiting, but it'll pay off for you, cheers
Did u ever consider getting the V8 troopcarrier LandCruiser workhorse with all the Vinal floors, seats etc & all your tools and valuables secured .... instead of getting the canopy ?
Not a bad thought mate, but no good for what I do, I need to be extremely versatile, one day a 300 kg generator could be in the tray, the next fuel drums...
id also be keen on seeing some hunting videos!!!
Cool mate no worries 👍
mate have you driven the one with the Hilux engine? Good bad?
No I haven't mate sorry, but check out Norweld's instagram they've got one, also check Ronny Dahl's channel he did a 76 test drive vid yesterday
Have you tested the led headlights at night yet?
Yes yesterday early morning, will definitely get spot lights, they are pretty good though. Headlight levelling works well
Do you know if the 79s and 76s have the v8 and auto option its so hard to find the right answer
All models are available in 4 cylinder auto, all models are available in v8 manual except the workmate 76. And you still cannot place an order for a v8 at this time.
@@OutbackOffroadNT cheers for that
Mate, wait till you put a bigger exhaust on that rig , completely changes that motor
Oh man I cannot wait to chuck a fat one on 😅
After coming out of a hilux does the 79 feel like a stronger Ute I love my hilux but it’s feels weak in the body dunno if it’s just me or not
To be honest I've had two hiluxs, and I can't really fault them, I flogged them pretty good, the cruiser feels stronger, chassis/components are a lot bigger/thicker they feel like a tank to drive, good solid axle rig takes a bit to get used to, I love them
I did 450,000 trouble free K's in my Hilux V6 petrol VZN167R then sold it when the chassis started to stress crack around the rear towbar mounts & tray mount towers. I liked the electric windows & better adjustment seats in my Hilux but the V8 Landcruiser is more fun & can do more without killing it.
mate, we'd love to see the camel vid
Seems there is a lot of interest mate, I'll definitely make a vid!
You get pigs outs there mate
No pigs mate, not far north enough aye
Never heard of wild Camels in the outback. We have wild hogs here that can be hunted year round.
There is a hell of a bunch running around Australia, we get wild pigs to!
2024? Isn't the build date on your landcruiser 2023?
Correct
From about October/November all cars made after then become the next model year for the most part. Currently our Tacomas here in the US are still 2023’s not sure when they were produced.
Hey mate what was the drive away price you paid for your ute ?
I'll cover this in a video mate, but $85,000 before any on roads etc
Thanks mate looking at buying one just wanted to see what you paid a got a price for $101000
No dramas, was that with any add ons, tray etc?
I think it's important to show people how hard life is in the Bush I would like to see a video of you Colin A camel and showing what the meat looks like when it's cooked I would love to taste camel
Yeah definitely mate, it should be a good vid to put out there
I find if I stay under 90 kmh it's tolerable fuel economy, plus if you can't afford the fuel you'd buy a Triton right 😂
I wish they sold these in the USA.
Where is the automatic transmission ???
No auto in v8 mate 👍
Run in at 100k km
Use spacers or try them 1st on rear if no improvement the widening of diff won't change much not worth rising warranty
I think spacers are illegal?
@@OutbackOffroadNT Correct & f'n dangerous. When your tyres wear out up the tyre size to 285/75R16 & you can't notice it. The bigger tyres run smoother on the dirt, are road & insurance legal, correct the speedo read out & wear heaps better too. I run Toyo Open country AT2.
@@OutbackOffroadNT oh right maybe not use spacers, maybe diff widen is only true fix ,, great video mate with various content love that
I'll definitely be going to a 285 tyre, have no intention fitting spacers, my old man likes those tyres also
@@OutbackOffroadNT bf Goodrich we use , good tyre for hard work and well made
With the music, you might want to look into Bluetooth speakers.
Yeah I actually had one with me, it's just nice using the Android auto
14.2L per 100km is so good
My 2.5 petrol defender gets around 90-100 km per 20L hahaha speed like 60-80 kph
Haha sheesh she's down to 13.5 and slowly dropping
@@OutbackOffroadNT I'm glad to hear that
may god bless you and your landy
Thanks mate, have a good day 👍
bro what litre per km ?
Roughly 15 litres per 100 km, on 33 inch Toyo MT tyres, loaded.
@@OutbackOffroadNT woah, this v8, how about 2.8L, same number or more efficient with same loaded ?
Yes v8 mate, I think the 4 cylinder would be a little better.
Sounds very loud idling 😂
Yes, love the way they sound, it's a solid sounding v8 👌
Why do you hate camels?
I didn't say I hate camels, listen and watch properly
