    To each his own and if this rocks your boat go for it. I am speaking for myself. When I roll down a window on 911, as the sun is shining, I listen to nothing but the sound of an air cooled engine. The experience is so enveloping that I go to bed with a smile. The sound, vibration, the mechanical clicking and tugging on the clutch and gearshift makes this thing have a soulful element that I don't experience when driving Tesla. Great build nevertheless.

      ? Tesla swapping has been around for quite sometime - there are issues with it - tesla knows which motors are out there and have in the past throttled used engines or just straight up cut them off from using their charging stations. It has gotten better - but there are a ton of better ev motors out there now, the thing with swaps is that they get horrible range.

    "Doesn't lose any of the soul of the car....Don't have to wait for the perfect window; power is always there." Well, isn't that part of the soul of this car? I'm not saying it's a worse performer, it's clearly superior from a performance standpoint. But 99% of owners of cars like this are buying them for an experience - not strictly for performance. So, yea, I would say you have compromised the "soul" of this car. It's a fantastic build, but it's got a different soul now.

    Super cool build! The only thing I really, really don’t like is that google nest looking gear selector. I don’t want my AC and heating to go through a submenu on a touch screen. It’s just annoying to use and I would much rather have a set of rotary dials on a plate that can go in place of the old controls. Every car manufacturer is slowly realizing that putting hvac on non dedicated buttons is dumb. It’s fine to use that rotary dial as a gear selector and to put some other controls on it, but not hvac

  • @netgnostic1627
    @netgnostic1627 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you have the regen on fairly high, do the brake lights turn on when you take your foot off the accelerator? You might be rear-ended by a distracted driver, it would be better for that driver to see the brake lights when you're slowing down. (I assume it's like the 1-pedal driving mode in a Tesla.)

    • @truantray
      @truantray ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a big problem in modern EVs and some companies are just ignoring it. But, if someone rear ends then they were following too close.

    • @netgnostic1627
      @netgnostic1627 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@truantray True, and I guess it's reasonable given the way the insurance industry works for current-model cars. But for a 40-year-old converted sportscar, it could be written off as a total loss very easily if the needed repair parts are rare. So if I had an EV-converted sportscar, I would search and search until I found a switch for the brakelights that would turn them on when the switch detects deceleration that exceeds maybe 20% over the level that coasting to a stop is caused in an ICE car. I know there's no legal requirement to do that, but it would be an inexpensive way to protect my personally-valuable sportscar.

    Tesla needs to offer classic car conversions - a battery pack where the gas tank goes, maybe auxillary batteries across floor of car, then an electric motor that bolts into anywhere a classic V8 or VW/Porsche engine would go on a classic car. Then offer long term care and support for them.

      Depending on battery placement, this will likely handle better than the original 930. Very few 930s survived the 80s because of the poor weight distribution and the unpredictable power behavior. Today, this car would never be made because of liability. It's still an evolution of a VW Beetle.
      This design puts the mass between the axles and would out handle the original, which is not hard to do. But most US drivers basically buy sports cars and drive them like dragsters.

    To clarify for the ICE guys that commented before watching the whole video, the conversion is non intrusive and can be reversed. A well sorted conversion for people who may not love all the idiosyncrasies of maintaining the ICE. Don’t get me wrong, I would never swap my mezger, but it’s nice to know a sorted conversion will exist. Good job 👍🏽

    Elegant and backwards-compatible conversion, great stuff....just ever so slightly irritated by Larry asking questions (brakes, weight distribution etc) on the drive that Rob already answered on the walk-around, but maybe due to the editing, still an enjoyable watch, thx :)

    The speed must be insane but no gears to shift. Best part of driving an old Porsche is shifting gears!

    What is the weight compared to a traditional 930?

    I f*cking love this but if its not a factory turbo but it has oem wide body I think you would call it a m491 not 930.

    • @analogmotorco
      @analogmotorco ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right, it's not even an M491, but the body parts were all taken from a dusted 930 many years back, it's a bit of a grey build.

    The best part of a 911 is the sound of the engine. Odd car to swap to electric

      Ok, but if you know these cars, they are money pits and unreliable, and that gets amplified 40 years later. Depends on your priorities. Make noise like most car guy a-holes, or experience the torque and speed, plus better weight distribution than the original.

  • @backnunAndy
    @backnunAndy ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder why you decided to keep same weight proportion as what it was. You could probably make it 50: 50 or 60: 40 for better weight balance? Do you want to keep the originality of how it handles?

    It's good (from a driving enjoyment point of view) that it's minimal regen for now. I recently drove a newer Tesla and the (what seemed like to me anyway) heavy regenerative braking really killed the fun. Driving with the accelerator all the time without any ability to coast just felt really odd. I'm sure you'd eventually get used to it, but it wasn't really what I'd consider enjoyable.

    • @zero_percent
      @zero_percent ปีที่แล้ว

      You can turn off regen in a Tesla to make it feel more like a "normal" car.

    So the throttle/regen should work like a sewing machine?!🤘🏼🏁 Stitch them corners together! They’re just big RC cars. Too bad the owner can’t tune throttle curves, punch and drag brake on the esc. Lol.
