    With coaching like yours I’d go to the end of the world !!! I have No skills to own a GSA(even though I do😜) but I’m starting my off road journey this week here in Arizona… New to this and wanna learn so bad cause I love being away from this worlds bs… What a better place than being on a BDR right?? Good stuff Sir!! Son might have been cussing ya the whole trio but when you’re gone he will have these memories branded in him….and that’s priceless 🫡🇺🇸🌵

    from the UK we have visited Wyoming a number of times - mainly stayed at the Red Reflet Ranch in Ten Sleep. (Sold now so not possible to stay anymore ). Wyoming Is my favorite place on the planet, love the wide open space. People are friendly and normal as well. I ride an EXC 450 6 Day and an 890R Adventure. Thanks for sharing this video - absolutely epic !!! Due to be back in September if weather holds and I can find a rental maybe I can get some trail in.

    Nice video. I like to see the Dad/son riding group, spending time with our kids doing what we love.
    I chuckled a bit on your comment about hauling too much weight....with all the videos out there (which I have watched most) many many riders talk about packing light, going light, smaller bikes and so on yet so many riders still find themselves on very heavy and loaded bikes. The "what if" and " but I might need this" tends to add up. I ride bicycles, dirt bikes, adv bikes, street bikes, long distance backpacking and these activities have helped me go very minimal and it has made my remote challenging rides way more enjoyable. I've done camping BDR's in AZ, CO, and UT on my 250 dirt bike. For me it has totally changed the experiences, making the trips a blast. It was a fun exercise in cutting my gear to really critical items only, as I did when I hike 300 to 500 miles at a go.
    Again, good video...thanks for taking us along.

    There is so much land, but no people way out there. I think you and your son had a nice adventure even though you didn't manage to fall down. That's outstanding! I've watched several of the BDR videos and it seems like crashing is unavoidable. In a few videos, experienced riders crashed and had to be transported out by helicopter 😢. I suppose many ADV riders would retort to my comment by saying if you don't expect to crash, then just don't ride the BDR. 35:29

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Drops are to be expected, crashes... hopefully not. There is certainly an elevated risk on any motorcycle trip, but keeping speeds low and putting in the hours of training before you go makes a big difference.

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you! Great question... They are actually both my bikes... My son does not own a bike and is an infrequent rider. The 890 will be easier in the technical stuff without a doubt. It doesn't lack much in comfort on road either so it's probably the more ideal BDR bike. However, I really enjoy the 1290... it was perfect for the WYBDR. I never dropped it. But we did skip the expert sections. (I'm not an expert, and my son certainly is not and we had time constraints, wanted to finish all 8 sections and get home).

      @DevinOrr 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DansADV I currently own a 22 890 ADVR & I have been thinking abut upgrading to the 1290. I just feel more comfortable on it and a little more planted. so before we get any farther in the video I have to ask. How were the Desert H/T on the big girl? I have them on my T7 and would really like to put them on my 1290SA-R for my COBDR trip next year. For me on the T7 they were really sketchy for the first 500 miles'ish. The head shake above 75 was nerve racking, but now they are fine....ON with the show and heck I may change my plans after watching this.
    Okay that was amazing. Thanks for the vid

      My tires are actually the MotoZ RallZ's. I'm pretty happy with them. My biggest complaint is that they are very loud on the highway, but I wear earplugs so I live with it. Been very happy with them off-road. Have them on the 890 and the 1290

    • @BigDaveTALKS
      @BigDaveTALKS 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DansADV I’m sorry I thought I saw Desert H/T🤦‍♂️. But the RallZ would be better for the big 1290. I ran the Adventure for the UTBDR this year and they were great. Man those Desert H/T are much louder than the Adventure. I always wear earplugs as well and my son was on the T7, we were doing 75/80 and i could easily hear those tires humming away. Anyway, thanks for your time

    Let me ask you a question: I have an 2019 Africa Twin that I lowered the suspension 50mm, which is 1.9 inches, what is the minimum amount of clearance a bike should have? The bike came with 9.8 inches and I lowered it down to 7.8 so I could easily put both feet on the ground. I'm mostly a street rider but I plan on starting off road riding this year. Comments or recommendations?

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you ride gravel roads and easy jeep trails, ground clearance will not come into the equation. If you're just getting started, my advice would be to continue to ride what you have and make sure you have a good skid plate. I'd get some training if you can't attend a class... I subscribed to "Say No Slow" by Chris Birch... he has some really great videos to help you transition to off-road riding. Once you start hitting your skid plate enough, you'll know it's probably time to raise your bike back up. Either that, or you'll find yourself bottoming out too often when hitting pot holes and rough terrain due to the limited suspension travel. Bottoming out at speed is a safety concern as it throws the bike of line and makes it hard to control. Long term, as your skills progress, being able to put both feed down will not be as big of a concern and you can probably raise your bike back up.
