@@cliftonsr Hiya Clifton! And thank you for liking the video 🙏. I have to say it is spectacular and it couldn’t have turned out better. Far better than expected and my first solo adventure. Hi Rick I KNOW your having a great time. What a epic place on a epic bike just priceless. I just installed a new Wings can on my bike with the dB killer OUT........ I just could not listen to that bike troumpt of a silencer anymore...............
Hiya Nigel. haha yeah it was epic mate. Nice one on the Wings.. My mate has a Wings on his too. If I didnt have the Akra I would have gone for the Wings too. :)

Hello mate great to hear from you too. Yeah I’m not around as much lately. Do miss having the time. Working in this new job kinda sucks in this respect as I have less time for myself. But am hanging in still 😂. 3 years already from the 1st vid .. time does fly!!!!
Awesome video Rick as usual. Scenery and footage from your Scydio2 are excellent! I'm doing the Pyrenees later in the year and after seeing this I can't wait! Can't decide if I should take my 1290 SAS or 890 Adventure.
Hiya mate. Thanks and good luck on the trip. You will love it mate. Hmmm. well the 1290 for me riding 1000 miles in one hit to get there was the best bike, However if it were broken down in stages I probably would take the 890... In fact I am on the 890 in a couple of days doing the Portgal ACT solo too. I look forward to seeing the difference :)
Thank you my friend! It was epic and recommend you try it. 🙏 I will be going back at some point. But first I have the KTM 2024 Adventure Rally in Portugal to do first 😎 in October 💪 All the best Ric

Hello and thanks! Great to hear you liked the video. I did this trip in first week of September 2023 which is a good time of year as still a little warm on a nice day but not a lot of traffic. Generally very quiet and a lot of accomodation available. BUT if travelling alone then can be tricky if you have a lot of rain in some sections. If you want nice dry sunny weather then August best bet. But will be dusty too and busier. All the best and good luck with the trip!! I want to go again haha. Thanks, Ric
Hiya thanks for watching and pleased you enjoyed it. It was a an awesome trip! One I’ll do again and maybe in reverse some time. I set off on 17th September so pretty late in the year but to be fair it was lovely and quiet regarding tourists and easy to find accommodation anywhere. Also the temperature was perfect not too hot or cold. And mostly dry. Good luck you will love it. But be warned some parts of the track may be closed without it being shown on the route gpx. You will just have to find your own way to somehow work your way back onto it further along if so 👍
@@RicardoYeep great! thanks a lot for the detailed reply! I already have plans for the summer so probably will end up going out of season... I'm now watching the Portugal video :)
@casagaragem haha the Portugal one was spectacular in a different way. Little more technical but I did do it in February I guess. But you do have a feeling of being more remote at times. Stunning views as you will see in the clip 👍
Hey mate, I read somewhere that one of your 1290 Super Adventures also suffered from a short (0.5 second) abruptly "missfire/cut-out" when opening the throttle at about 3000 rpm and then runs smoothly again. Happens not all the time but randomly; some information about this? Thanks!
Hi Rick how are you? What a super trip you had! Congratulations!!! Wonderful pictures!!! But what drone are you using that follows you at those speeds and avoids obstacles so well?
Ciao Emiliano... Come va amico! Quanto tempo...
Thank you very much for getting back to me buddy, really appreciate it, hope your keeping well too? The only date we have available is the 19/10/24… be good to know your thoughts, if you think no I’ll arrange it for after Christmas, what route did you take? I got the ACT route as I’ve joined. Thank you again for your help.
@@richiematthews9279 Hiya mate came back and said his 890R was overkill.. He could have done it on a fully loaded GSA solo. So the last 7 days its pretty doable anyway. I think November onwards you maybe leaving it late. just make sure you donwload the most recent route. As it may have some closed sections re-routed. Enjoy!!! :) Cheers Ric

Great video with all the drone shots. Just moved onto a 2023 KTM1290SAR myself after seven years with a R1200GS. Almost went for the 890R for better offroad, but wanted the comfort of the 1290 more for the long trips. Need to choose offroad tyre: Bridgestone AX41 or Dunlop Trailmax Raid. Thoughts ?
Hiya Mark thank for the feedback mate. Congrats on the new bike too. I hope you enjoy the 1290! I’ve moved to the 890R funnily enough for the reason you mentioned 🤣 As for tyres.. you probably saw I ran both those tyres on that trip. Personally I prefer the AX41 they are a tad more aggressive but still fantastic on the tarmac when needed. At a cost of longevity.. the Trailmax Raid easily outlast the AX41 but “personally” isn’t aggressive enough. I basically compare the Trailmax Raids as a longer lasting Pirelli STR Rally. Great all round tyre for compact dry mud, rock and Forrest trails. With good road performance. But I’d hands down have the AX41 for the same but also better on loose stuff and muddier ground.. ( at cost of longevity as mentioned)
@@RicardoYeep Thanks for the info... I'm going to give the AX41's a try. I only do light trails but given we have so much mud here in the UK , I'll take all the help I can get please. Enjoy the 890, When I test rode it, I found it aggressive like it was looking for a fight and found myself riding like I was "on a mission". 1290 is laid back in comparison, that says a lot about the 890 experience. Awesome machine though.

Hi Neil to be honest if your simply riding roads you’ll be fine if used to tall bikes. However if you are taking it on trails and with luggage and not used to tall heavy bikes then probably not a good idea. I have a 29 inch inseam and even with low seat I can barely touch the floor. I can only do one foot at a time which I’m ok with. I’m also ok with dropping the bike if need be. Which is something a lot of people will never be comfortable with. 👍
