It's safe to say that Nintendo has had no clue what to do with this franchise since the beginning. This is coming from someone who's never played a game from this series.
@@DDDD22244 I'd agree if they were reviewing the games, but in terms of knowing whether or not Nintendo care about the franchise as a whole, I'm sure even those who have played few or none of the games can see that.
@@Legend-of-KaiAs someone who has never played a Star Fox game but recently became interested in the franchise (thanks to A Fox In Space, no thanks to Nintendo), I can confidently say they are sitting on a great franchise with lots of potential but appear to be unwilling to take the risk of making something that isn't tried and true (Mario, Zelda, DK, etc etc)
I think Nintendo made the right choice in not releasing Starfox 2 on SNES. The first game and N64 version were extremely solid productions. After avoiding disaster and putting out 2 amazing titles you would think the series would be strong to this day. I don’t even mind starfox adventures, just not what the fans wanted 🤷♂️
The best thing for Star Fox at this time would be a movie or anime. Something to breathe some life into the franchise and make the general public care about the world and characters. Then when everyone is talking about it again, have a dedicated team create either a StarFox Rpg or a semi open world adventure game. One that isn't rushed or forces a team to rework their vision.
Wow cool ideas definitely think a different form of media would help it out. Just to draw in some more eyes for the franchise as atm its kind of dormant. The RPG idea is pretty interesting never considered Star Fox in that format but if its executed well I'm sure it'd be pretty cool. I never considered mario could be an RPG and that has become one of my longtime favourites
I think that is exactly what StarFox needs, and we may be nearing the perfect time for it. With the success of the Mario and Sonic movies as well as Detective Pikachu, and people theorizing a Smash Bros movie, the time is now to make a StarFox movie. If they make a successful Zelda movie then StarFox movie, then many pieces could be in place for a Smash Bros movie. They don't need to go with the massive cast of Ultimate, but a smaller cast like 64. I don't think Captain Falcon or Ness need their own movie, and probably not Samus either. But with these movies, Mario, Pikachu, Zelda, and StarFox, then we have most of the cast for Smash 64. And I think Samus and C. Falcon could easily find there way in without their own movie.
@@5BBassist4Christ if they do go the route of making a Smash Bros movie, which could be interesting and really fun but not necessary, they should probably give Samus a movie. Being the first playable female character, and a badass bounty hunter at that with a rich history of lore, she could hold her own franchise. Kirby could be argued into needing a movie as well and I think that would put him into Mario/Zelda/Pokemon status. I'd say Earthbound/Mother and F-zero could be skipped over since most people literally only know them from Smash.
@@zaperator4449 Fire Emblem would be better as a long running anime than as a movie. Plus, just like with Melee, Marth can just show up and anyone who's played smash knows who he is so that's good enough.
Starfox Assault is my favorite game in the entire series. It was my first game and my first Starfox game. After playing most of the other games now as an adult I still feel strongly that Assault was the right path that just need polish is all. Edit: also I love it not just because of the multiplayer but also the single player.
Yeah I agree, well for me I enjoyed both Adventures and Assault both of which get a lot of heat. I think assault was the best chance they had to expand the franchise. Just needed to fix up and polish some of the mechanics and gameplay feel and I'm sure they could make some solid games. Hoping for the future
Agreed - I loved Assault (having been a big fan of the SNES original). I remember it got a lot of flak in reviews at the time as it didn’t look as graphically impressive as StarFox Adventure on the same system. Always found that view to be completely reductive as it was a completely different genre and style of game. Graphically I thought it was really solid graphically and loved you could run round on feet and then jump into a vehicle seamlessly. Really solid and under appreciated title. Just feels like fans at the time were crying out for more traditional StarFox games and when they got one which was a reasonable evolution of the format it got ignored. It’s a game that really needs to be re-evaluated.
@@greyfox1127 I Agree Whole Heartedly! Mostly because IT IS TRUE! And While I’m happy that Starfox Zero tried to use The Chicken Walker form of the Arwing. It definitely should’ve been in more missions that were like Star Fox Assault! Giving a Surprise solution to a Problem where the enemy has the upper hand in the Arwing to On-Foot Mission. The Evolution was Always there, but Nintendo Keeps shoving Limitations and “But Base the Game Around this-“ Toy Gimmicks that ruin any creative freedom Studios and companies like Namco, Argonaut Games/Q-Games, and Rare would’ve done wonders had Nintendo not Stifled their efforts!
Miyamotto made this series as a way to flex the SNES and just like F-ZERO he sees it as that. The difference is that, Star Fox is more lore base and continuous in its narrative. With that and Miyamotto's mindset of wanting to change up the wheel for any incarnation there's some conflict in it. Not to mention that Commands endings left a "bruh moment" to the point where the N64 narrative was essentially rebooted with another re imagining with Zero. Which thanks to the forced gimmick that Miyamotto implemented caused the ip's quality to dip downwards. As a Star Fox fan, I see this ip in a murky state that's even further below F-ZERO. Yes Star Fox had more games recently, but at least the quality with that ip is still high and gains more attention with each possible "leak".
Good point about F-Zero. At least with F-Zero, there's no uncertainty. That's because F-Zero is long gone and will never, ever come back again. It's gone the way of the dodo. But, Star Fox? On one hand, SF Zero is the worst-selling game in the series. The sales of SF games had been dropping for years. On the other hand, the Star Fox crew cameos in not only SSB games, but also non-SSB games like Starlink. Plus, there was a gap of about 11 years between SF Zero and the last new game in the series, SF Command. Meanwhile, it's "only" been 7 years since the last SF title. Additionally, some purported Nintendo insider claimed that Nintendo is hard at work on an animated series and a new game (I say it's a lie until proven true, much like the goofball who said F-Zero will get something in 2023, a year we've almost halfway through). So, there's still a chance, however slim, of SF coming back later. $50 says that the next SF game (if it happens) will be another reboot of N64. This series is like a zombie. It dies, but then it rises from the grave in worse shape than before each time. :(
Though what makes me especially worried is that the series, despite obvious choices due to a very limited, ever recurring cast (Crystal, Slippy, Peppy, Andross, Pigmar, Leon, Panther, Andrew, ...), there haven't been any additions to the Star Fox roster since Brawl. And its even more jarring considering how the Star Fox characters all use the same concept and thus would be easy to make.
Maybe they're worried as whenever they added a new character (Krystal) for example they always seem to get the brunt of hate from players saying why do they exist and things like that. I'm all for more Star Fox characters though
@@Legend-of-Kai That's totally early 2000. As sexist as militaria kids (and Star Fox has that appeal, if we are honest) typically are, I don't think anyone nowadays has a problem with female characters anymore. In case of a new title I would totally expect some kind of Star Wolf bitch (in the sense of female wolf, in case anyone gets this wrong), too. They are clearly designed as Anti-Heroes nowadays so having Pigmar or Andrew rejoin seems wrong, yet they still have a spot open.
@@madness9651 The problem is back then Nintendo can have multiple teams on a number of games. However ever since the 6th generation games required more to people to make them. It’s a shame that they didn’t pay much attention to star Fox very underrated by Nintendo. This by far was way better then dare I say Mario or Pokemon. This franchise deserved so much love I’d pay to see this on the big screen
I know it’s a bit of a hot topic among Sonic fans but the fact that Ian Flynn is trying to pitch a Star Fox comic adaptation with the idea of actually finishing Command and giving it a canon ending which will leave it open to actually continue the timeline outside of rehashing 64 again gives me hope that we may see more Star Fox in the future. In the meantime, fan projects like Event Horizon, A Fox in Space and That Night on Venom will have to suffice. Also based opinions on the GameCube titles
Starfox Assault is peak Starfox IMO, amazing story, good arwing missions + Mission variety + good multiplayer. It was the only step forward after Starfox 64, (that wasnt just another remake of 64) and as far as im concerned its one of the 2 games in the series worth playing.
Was definitely the direction needed for Star Fox still don't understand why so many fans hated on it. As a result we got more 64 clones and now the franchise is dormant
@@Legend-of-Kai I feel like they hate it due to the on foot aspect. Adventure unfortunately left a bad test in certain peoples mouths and so some people really don't want him to come out of his ship which is a shame as the on foot combat of assault could help give star fox flexibility and experimentation that I don't necessary think the on rails can offer. Also the on foot sections of assault is not that bad, just make sure that you have it set to the duel stick control scheme like a classic 3rd person shooter.

They tried so hard to save this series, it's actually kind of sad. Nintendo went all out with Star Fox Zero - amazing graphics, an animated short, and they even threw in an additional tower defense-kind of game to go along with it. And it still wasn't enough. All Star Fox is known for now is Fox, Falco, and Wolf as Smash fighters. And that's just sad.
Great job with this retrospective. Starfox Assault is ironically my favorite installment in the Starfox franchise. It has the best multiplayer in the entire franchise, which I think best reflects the potential the on-foot gameplay has if given far more polish. I love the designs of the characters and vehicles in the game and the Apariods were the only legitimate threats in the Starfox universe apart from Andross himself. (The Angular Emperor feels underwhelming thanks to Command’s soap opera styled story)
Command to me is very forgettable. Whereas as much as they're hated both Assault and Adventures are games I still remember fondly to this day. I honestly think going off and experimenting was the right thing to do. Too bad the fans and the sales turned Nintendo away from repeating it. I think they could have got somewhere with it if they kept going.
In a Nintendo direct video, Trueblade Seeker said "your day will never come," which was directed at F-zero and Golden Sun fans. The same can be applied for Star Fox, which hits harder than a truck.
Wow...that is rough. Sucks to hear that about F-zero and Golden Sun as well man such good potential. Star Fox at least has gotten some games even if they weren't the best in the end.
I enjoyed Adventures and I LOVED Assault. I think Assaults approach (Rich story and a mix of land and space missions) is the right one, they just had to fine tune it and lean more on the Airwing missions and perfect them, imo. Oh and stop outsourcing it.
I wouldn't complain if Namco took another swing at it and made something more akin to the Ace Combat series. You could still have rail shooting style levels along aside more open ended one, even 64 did that. or hell Starlink wasn't that bad of a game in concept, I wouldn't mind one bit if we had a full open solar system kinda like Starlink, but you know not a toys to life game that makes exploration unrewarding because you can't find a new weapons or ship parts or anything interesting, those had to be bought separately. Throw in a war over the solar system, have shops or industries and resources you can secure, and such. There is honestly so much that could be done there.
I would have loved to play Star Fox Zero but I never owned a Wii U, and perhaps that's very telling of not just the game's poor sales, but the system's as well. The Wii U was considered Nintendo's 2nd-worst performing console. I had the upgraded New Nintendo 3DS XL and really enjoyed that system, and we should have seen the writing on the wall back then, especially with the split release of Super Smash Brothers 4 for both the 3DS and Wii U, with complete cross compatibility. This would eventually become the Nintendo Switch, with Nintendo permanently shutting down their Handheld Department. Got off on a tangent there, but I think that a re-release of Star Fox Zero on the Switch with some beefing up of levels and options could maybe work in Nintendo's favor, but I do sincerely hope the series is not dead either way. Nintendo certainly has a soft spot for the series, as in the Adventure Mode of Super Smash Ultimate, the first character to appear in the opening scene with the first line is Fox McCloud himself. I enjoyed Star Fox 64 back in the day, but I spent many, many fond hours playing through Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault, so the series has a special place in my heart, too.
Starfox has a soft spot in my heart. I really, really hope to see better for it. But, I'm fairly certain it's dead. I adore Starfox assault for actually moving the story forward and everything it did. I would love to see Nintendo make another starfox where the story progresses, and not another remake of 64.
Personally, Star Fox Assault is my most favorite game in the series (with Star Fox 64 being a close second). I enjoyed how the game has multiple playstyles, allowing for different styles of missions. In one mission, you may be doing a traditionally on rails style mission, while in another, you're on foot, taking out targets and infiltrating bases. One thing I will say about it that I don't like is how easy and short it is. It only has 10 missions, and while getting all the gold badges is a very fun challenge I recommend anyone do if they haven't done so, once you do it, all you unlock is more multiplayer stuff. If Nintendo is planning on making a new game, I hope they have a refined version of Assault's gameplay, but with branching paths, like in Star Fox 64, and have more than 10 levels.
I watched star fox Assault and it was i think the right move it had heft to it. There was a real threat. They need Namco, Rare, and Ubisoft to work together to make a sequel. Command doesn't count.
I think Ubisofts Starlink is a good base for the next StarFox game. While Starlink wasn’t the best game it had things the StarFox franchise needs: -free roam gameplay within the galaxy and between planets, selectable pilots with skills and attributes, customizable ships just to name a few. I think what killed the franchise is not just Nintendo but leaving it up to Miyamoto to create some gimmick. The company has a lot of fresh new talent that I’m sure can make StarFox great as it was. Or partner with the team behind Starlink to get some creative inspiration for the next game.
I guess I've pretty much divorced myself from traditional StarFox, but I really liked additions like Krystal, and how Assault evolved StarFox's formula. I'd strongly prefer that trajectory for a new StarFox game than trying to go back to strict on-rails again, especially after Zero.
I think its because of the feedback it got at the time. Nowadays people consider it a pretty decent game I loved it back then as well but the rest of the starfox fanbase didn't share that same feeling

@@dissonanceparadiddle Pokemon's appeal was that it was a handheld, now that it's on a console the charm is gone. I feel Pokemon Masters on iOS has more charm. As for Nintendo hiring people, that's kinda hard when some Japanese developers may also want to join companies on Sony consoles and Japan itself is very small compare to the US and Europe?? Starfox was made because Nintendo needed to experiment with 3d. Meaning that Starfox is important to Nintendo's past but not their future. The other problem is that I can't imagine Joy-con controls working well with Starfox.
The big issue with Star Fox as a series is that being an arcade-y space shooter means that the game would naturally be very short, since so many resources would be needed to make huge arenas that the player would blast through very fast. Now, that was fine back in the SNES and N64 era, where games were more focused on being replayable, but from the 6th console generation onward, games you can finish in a couple of hours would be raked over the coals by "gamers", so the developers had to pad out the game with fluff like the on-foot missions in Assault (and even then Assault is only two and a half hours long) so that players would be getting their money's worth, reusing assets so as to save development costs from ballooning. 3D Sonic has been struggling with this since Sonic Adventure, and I think it's the main reason why Star Fox keeps trying these weird experiments.
Concept for a Star fox game: take inspiration from ratchet & clank copy slight elements of it, make a good heart touching and interesting story, make fox fly through planets in the Laylat system, make the flying from planet to planet like the old games, make him land on those planets and make the gameplay on these planets be a 3D platformer with shooter elements and add some slight combos with melee and gun attacks (make the aiming good and give new weapons to make the player feel like he's progressing) and there you have it! a cool innovative and emotional Star fox game for switch. Which could potentially be awarded "game of the year" Also... Have bosses for each planet too, like in prime where they took control of the planet for their own reasons and needs, and at the end make the boss before the final boss- (I'm not sure about this one) -fox mccloud's dad to make fox vulnerable and truly hate the main antagonist. And Make the music very touching/action and scary for at least one or two planets. Okay I'm done rambling thanks to anyone who decided to read all of this! I truly appreciate you 🙏

I wish they would’ve built on the foundation Assault gave us. Being able to hop in and out of vehicles was really fun. I also liked how there was a new threat, although the dialogue was super cringe. It would be awesome if we got a remake of that game that came with additional maps, playable characters, weapons, and other things. Too bad Nintendo feels like they need to reinvent the wheel with each game. If you want some good Star Fox content check out Star Fox Event Horizon by UndyingNephalim/IceCreamMan. It’s a reimagining of the 64 continuity that uses characters and ideas from all three timelines. The guy got Krystal and Wolf/Bill’s original voice actors to do work for his game. It’s a mod for Freespace Open so it’s 100% free. Unfortunately, it’s pretty jank/scuffed at times, and engine limitations make it so you can’t hop in and out of vehicles like you could in Assault. It’s pretty impressive. Thankfully the gameplay is really fun. We’re it not for the engine limitations and some questionable narrative choices this would be the best Star Fox thing.
Recently some Retro Studios ex employees revealed that Nintendo rejected a Star Fox pitch that was pretty much Mass Effect in the Star Fox universe. Big oof.
Whoa, really? Yeah, BIG mistake on Nintendo's part. I own all 4 of the Mass Effect games, including the Deluxe pre-order packages for 3 and Andromeda. When Bioware announces the release of the 5th game, I plan to pre-order that, too. It would also give the opportunity to actually coordinate battles with your teammates rather than just them fluttering about shooting the occasional low-level Mook. It would also give players the chance to choose which pilots/fighters got used for each mission, giving Nintendo the excuse to add Bill, Katt, Miyu, and Faye to the team fully. ❤
@@indigothecat Really cool ideas in general. Always found the engagement with the rest of the star fox team to be lackluster. They're just there and pop in every now and then or say some one liners but it did feel like you were on a solo mission most of the time.
Since the Switch has seen tons of franchise sales records, maybe there is a chance that they got something Star Fox planned (or at least for the next system) As for video ideas, a Rise and Fall and Rise of Sonic would be super cool to watch :)
All they need is one game to ignite the fire once again. Will take the sonic idea into consideration, only problem is I have hardly played as many Sonic games as Nintendo games

She was on each end of the spectrum. Hardcore Starfox fans always hated her addition where as others found her a refreshing addition to the cast. I personally think she was cool. I think she could have done with more development in assault though after her impact in adventures.
It's quite a sobering reality when you realize that, in the last 15 years, all Nintendo could achieve with a once-sterling series like Star Fox were a remake of a 1990s game, a reboot of a 1990s game, a release of another 1990s game, and a cameo in a commercial failure. SF had games made after the turn of the century, but it's like the series never left the 1990s in the eyes of Nintendo's management. Under Nintendo's ownership, SF is like Pac-Man or Donkey Kong. It's just running on nostalgia fumes. It's being mishandled by this company. Therefore, the best news that SF could possibly have would be for this IP to go into the public domain. This way, no one would have to depend on the management at Nintendo to greenlight a new game. SF would benefit a lot if the fans could make official new entries (as would DK, for that matter). They could make new video games, comics, animated shorts, and other SF content without fear of legal repercussion from Nintendo.
What they should do with Star Fox is combine a refined gameplay of Star Fox Assault with an open world like umm.. Dark Star One, if anyone knows that game. That'd be perfect.
I'll never forgive nintendo for giving up on starfox. It had so much potential - the best story and characterization of any nintendo franchise imo. Keep the rail shooting and improve the mechanics for the on-foot missions. At this point I'm so desparate for another starfox release, i dont even care what direction they go in.
Wasn't there ALREADY a game like that called Dinosaur Planet? It was an unreleased 64 game before it became Adventures. In fact, If it wasn't for that game, we wouldn't have Krystal, who was originally from THAT game, and as the main character. WE SHOULD REVIVE DINOSAUR PLANET AS IT ORIGINALLY WAS. KRYSTAL DESERVES HER OWN GAME.

I think it’s gonna end up in a Metroid like state. At least until someone at Nintendo or one of their 2nd party studios come up with a new idea for it.
At least Metroid was able to find inspiration in its own gameplay Star Fox just seems to be on repeat without much innovation. And when there is innovation the fans seem to turn their noses up at it. Maybe they just haven't found that spark yet
Star Fox 64 was such a masterpiece, I don't think Nintendo had a clue how to follow it up for Star Fox. That's why they handed Star Fox off to both Rareware and Namco. We are long overdue form a PROPER Star Fox 64 sequel.
I subscribed specifically BECAUSE you said you like Adventures and Assault, ngl I *loved* Assault, especially because of the kickass Soundtrack! (And also because the story had me think of the Borg from Star Trek, and as a TNG fan I really apprechiated that) Personally, I think what Star Fox needs is not a game, but a full-fledged anime series, to also bring the lore a bit into order (and also to not worry about stupid shit like losers lost in nostalgia complaining about every single thing). (I just hope they give Krystal a better storyline than just have her be playing the role of space Zelda while wearing a bikini, ngl)
I really liked Starfox Adventures. In fact it's the only Starfox game I liked. I just don't jive with rail shooters. So I'd love to see a sequel, but that will never happen obviously. Instead I think if we're looking for new directions the game could go in, while still evoking the old, think a game like Elite Dangerous or No Man's Sky (without the resource gathering) would be a good starting point. Like maybe a stroy-driven mission-based shooter, with free-roaming space exploration and dogfighting to get between missions? Or something like that.
Honestly I think we may share the same tastes, I for one loved Star Fox adventures when I played it all those years back. But then again based on my name its probably not that unusual that I like games similar to Zelda. Interesting ideas for the franchise, one things for sure someone needs to start thinking of something. Nintendo seems to do well when innovating all their other franchises but when it comes to Star Fox nothing gets done.
I feel its death came from multiple angles: Divided fanbase with those who wanted adventure elements who also tended to be more on the furry aspect of things, the original die hard rail shooter fans who wanted subtle changes and craved innovation to the mechanics, and the other side of the original base that loved the rail shooter aspect but didn't want change at all. Also Star Fox had two cocreators whom shared different visions. One sided with fans to direct the game in too many directions known as SF Command and the other didn't know what to do and kept sending it off to other companies or would just remake SF64... I personally wish they would have continued with the direction SF Assault was going as it had great potential to have improved mechanics with sequals but the fans in the end killed the franchise. Not to mention Nintendo also would kill fan projects if they ended up being decent which were far and few but that also didn't help keep the community interested.
The only Star Fox games I played are Lylat Wars and Star Fox 64 3D. Although, my younger sister owns a copy of Star Fox Assault and I've read a review about it in an old issue of the NGC Magazine. I think I still have the magazine somewhere in my bedroom. I also watched Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins (which is a short anime film) back in 2016. Back in 2016, both Ratchet & Clank (2016) and Star Fox Zero came out in the UK on the same date. Star Fox Zero lost to Ratchet & Clank (2016) in the UK video game sales charts. Ratchet & Clank (2016) came out on top in 1st place whilst Star Fox Zero trailed behind in 6th place in the UK video game sales charts.
@@orangeslash1667 A few years ago, I tried out a demo of a Star Fox-esque indie game called Ex-Zodiac. I still need to check out the latest build of the demo.
Assault's on foot controls could be changed to a more conventional twin stick 3rd person shooter in the options menu (the c-stick being used to aim) , why it wasn't like that by default clearly was a big mistake on people's first impressions of the game, mine included. By default it feels like you're in a tank, but you already jumped out of the land master and it did not feel good at all to control Fox on foot because of the default controls and I kinda wrote the game off back in the day, upset there wasn't more Arwing sections, and thought the on-wing sections a fair bit absurdist with this random chain gun that has infinite ammo and does more damage than the land master per shot that Fox pulls out of nowhere, and also just casually holding on on the wing of Falco/Wolf's ship, not falling to his death, or getting sucked into an engine, and also the man portable chain gun is more powerful than the arwing or the land master, why not use this weapon all the time? T I actually really love the game now though after giving it a revisit in recent years. The sound track though, Assault had that full orchestral sound track and it was absolutely fantastic. One of the best on the system, franchise or nintendo in general.
I loved the Assault soundtrack! I know some people think its not as good at the original but I love the full orchestral versions of the pieces. They sound more grand and bring more emotion out of me. Glad you mentioned it!
I think a lot of people are bored by the rail shooter design of 64. I would rather see Starfox rebooted into something like Ratchet and Clank and throw in some Arwing Missions in between. We need more 3rd person adventure games from Nintendo and I think Starfox can fill this role.
Starlink isnt even a Star Fox game and yet it is still one of the best Star Fox games lmao. I think Nintendo could use Starlink as inspiration for a new Star Fox game.
@@Legend-of-Kai I think Starlink had the potential to be a 10/10 game, but sadly it has a few flaws, specially the repeated missions. For example, you spend most of the time with the game destroying enemy bases on the planets... but the bases are way too similar to each other, if not identical, which makes the game very repetitive. If the game had more variety on enemy bases, it would have so much more replayability. But it still better than any Star Fox game besides 64 imo
@@caioleite5579 I thought Starlink was a cool game, but I'd say SF Assault and SF SNES were also better games. Not nearly as many fetch quests and much more combat. Had SF not cameoed in that game, I don't think anyone would've paid attention to it.
I think it's weird that too many gamers can't get enough of Fox, Falco, and the like running, gunning, jumping etc in Smash Bros, but can't stand it when they did that in their own series. On-foot adventures could've helped the series a ton! Unfortunately it's almost like F-Zero and Darkstalkers, where their recent appearances are usually limited to crossovers...
it's very sad to see this franchise loosing so much momentum. Even the views on this video are so low if you look at the legacy. Well done for putting this together.
All we need is the Star Fox crew, including the pilots in 2. Krystal needs to be in her own game like Dinosaur Planet. As for gameplay I like a combination of Star Fox 64 and Star Fox 2.
Star fox was remade three times if you think about it. The sixty four version was an updated version of the original super Nintendo one, then the three duel screen remake, and lastly zero on Wii U. That right there are three remakes / re imagines of the original star fox title from the super Nintendo. Star fox two is a good title to continue the story and game play of the original super Nintendo and it is fun however I understand why it was not released as it is heavily dated by nineteen ninety five standards and heavily outdated by twenty seventeen. Adventure was good until the ending which heavily disappointed me in my youth, I never played assault or command as I heard those titles where not that great. I am not the biggest fan of star fox but I have played many of the main titles such as the original and it's original sequel and adventure both sixty four remakes. To revive the series a new television show or film "not likely" could bring interest back and maybe a title to go along with it as continuation of the series. The series needs a heavy reboot such as what crash bandicoot had done with crash four.
Yes, I think a lot of people don't realise that a lot of Star Fox games are pretty much just remakes of another. A TV show or Film would be pretty cool to see and definitely a new game as well. I think they're afraid of taking chances at this point considering what happened with adventure/assault and its hurting the franchise as whole.
Starfox Zero would have been a good game if it wasn't for the motion controls to aim in single player. The idea was good as a little brother co-op setup but with 1 person trying to aim and shoot with the accurate cross hair on a screen that is moving around and the over the shoulder view on a fixed screen it is to messy. A way to lock the turret in a position for a strafing run and making the big screen cross hair accurate would have made the game so much better.
This is an amazing video! I really wish Nintendo understood Starfox, and gave it another shot and not just remake 64 again. Could you provide links to the gameplay in the Adventures and Assault playthroughs?
I wish we can get a new Star Fox to come out in the modern age, but alas it's easier said than done at this point and it doesn't look like we might be getting a new one.... or are we? See, there have been some rumors going around that a new Star Fox has been in development for a while now and that Nintendo is also considering an anime series like the one from Zero that they have up on their channel. And it does kinda fit cause what else are they going to do? Besides Metroid Prime 4, what else have they been working on? We might see something in June with all the direct celebrating the 30th anniversary of the series. But again, its just rumors but I am still going to be holding out hope for something in the future.
Better to hold onto hope than believe the worst my friend. I think a good number of us are hoping for a new modern star fox game, the franchise has so much potential to be left untapped. The rumours sound interesting and better than hearing nothing
I oddly have little memory of StarFox Assault. I remember liking it, but don't remember anything about it specifically. I've been playing 64 on an emulator, and that is a fantastic game which doens't get nearly the praise it deserves. As for Adventures, I have rather divided opinions of that game. Even back when it came out, there were certain things that drove me nuts. Fox's character was a turn off. He was impulsive, complaining, obsessed with money, and looking for quick ways out. Peppy and Slippy were annoying (more annoying in Slippy's case), and Falco was absent (except at the end). The voice acting was absolute trash, the gibberish for the dinosaur language was cringy, and the story just had a lot of poor beats. Absolute worse of all, however, was the Andros ending. Just, why? Beyond all those negative parts of it, I did rather like the game. The gameplay wasn't fantastic, but I did enjoy getting to play as Fox on the ground. The staff was a great weapon, the world was exciting to explore, the atmosphere and aesthetic were really good, and many of the levels and temples were memorable. I think StarFox Adventures was a lot of ideas in the right directions, which none of them landed well. It was the game that needed to continue this story, but it needed better writers and actors.
Why Star Fox was Abandoned by Nintendo? Pretty logical: Nintendo love act in a Activision, EA Games and Rockstar Game style by just care for monney as priority and not the community itself by do somes stupid favoritism to all those borring Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Kirby and Splatoon bullshit recycled games on Switch just for the monney. After all, it's not a big surprise when we notice how much a Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Kirby and Splatoon be sales in Japan as a very popular serie unlike a Metroid, Star Fox, Kid Icarus and Pikmin game who get less sales in Japan due to be less popular but still have a community in those games. Plus, if people are enought smart, they would notice in almost 6 years of the Nintendo Switch existence that we just have 2 Metroid games and 2 Pikmin games and still nothing for Star Fox, Kid Icarus or F-Zero while Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Kirby get a lot of games with 2 or 1 game every years in a Call of Duty style if you check the list of games who belong to Nintendo on the Nintendo Switch and the result hurt so much by see how the Nintendo Switch is the most disappointing Nintendo console by see, unlike previous Nintendo console, it's just a console for made Nintendo become so much rich by mainly release Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Kirby recycled games without care to their other video game serie and all of that just for the monney unlike previous consoles who didn't do a overdose of Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Kirby games. But the problem is more Nintendo keep abusing by release the same recycled games on the Nintendo Switch just for the monney and more their grab monney games become a garbage like Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Kirby and Splatoon. You want a proof about what I say? Okay then! You have your proof: If what I say is accusated to be a sort of misinformation like say most of Nintendo players who are in bad faith and refuse to see the true in front of their sheep eyes then what was all this cinema about the Pokemon community who doesn't stop complain like a cry baby and insult others Pokemon community who aren't okay with them about how the graphics look ugly? How to the Pokemons games seem recycled and less good than previous games? Or how about the last Pokemon game in 2022 was full of glitch since the dev didn't care to test it carefully before release it? Yep, without any doubt, Digimon bet easily the Pokemon serie. if I should do a comparison between Bandai and Gamefreak from Nintendo, I would say Bandai try their best to not disapoint Digimon community and put so much love into their Digimon games like in Cyber Sleuth and Next Order unlike Nintendo/Gamefreak who suffer of a lack of creativity and love to their Pokemon game by made more their own community upset than anything else since, unlike Bandai, Nintendo/Gamefreak just care for monney so I would advice Nintendo/Gamefreak to take somes lesson from Bandai for see how to made a good video game with good quality since it seem good video game with good quality is a word who doesn't exist into Pokemon in those last games on Switch. Plus Digimon Next Order was so much loved by the Switch and Steam community when it was release while the last Pokemon with his DLC announced was so hated by the community when it was released. Oh and what about Fire Emblem Engage who was hated by the frenchy community since I have check an eye on them and, from what I notice, they mainly complain about how the english dub look trash unlike previous games and prefer play with Japan language despite they would prefer the english dub if it wasn't a garbage? How Engage look like more fan service game? How the design of characters look so ugly? And what about the first DLC who was garbage with somes of them who say they regret to have buy it? Now let's talk about Kirby and Return to Dreamland Deluxe: What was all this cinema with Kirby community who complain about the lines arround character who are useless and there is even a mods for remove it and if the game was so much perfect then why people would need a mods for remove those lines? How about Dedede face who is ugly and not cute anymore unlike the true Dedede that we know and like in Smash serie and Kirby previous games before Forgotten Land coming and ruin Dedede design? Again, Nintendo/Hal Laboratory should take somes lesson but, this time, from the Metroid Prime Remaster creators and dev since, for a remaster on Switch, Metroid Prime look definitively more beautiful on the Switch than the original game on GCN/Wii unlike Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluexe who have inverted about the Classic Wii version who is better than the ugly Switch Deluxe version. And what about Splatoon 3 with most of people who are disappoint by see Splatoon 3 don't bring anything new and feel like Splatoon 3 is too much similar to Splatoon 2 as if he was nothing else than just a vulgar grab monney game and there wasn't any interest to release two same Splatoon game in the same console when we know Splatoon 2 online is still alive in 2023 like say some people who talk about it on TH-cam? It would be more logical to release Splatoon 3 on a next Nintendo console as a starter game for bring people to the new Nintendo console instead release 2 same game on same console with one who is so much liked while the second let somes doubt about it. Yep! Pretty hard to deny all those informations huh? Even if there is no new Star Fox games since Nintendo prefer grab monney games, i'm glad to have still Metroid, Zelda, Smash Bros and Pikmin games. If Nintendo would don't care anymore about them too, it would be a while that I would quit Nintendo for join their rival like Sony, Microsoft or Steam as a PC player since, with Star Fox, Metroid, Zelda, Smash Bros, F-Zero, Kid Icarus and Pikmin are the only true video game who is the main reason about why I stay in Nintendo. I would like say Mario too but I don't like about how they mistreat Mario games sometimes like Mario Party Superstar who was a garbage for a big lack of playable character or about Mario Striker on Switch who was not really fully appreciate with people who complain about a lack of game mode like a story mode or playable character or to release the game as a BETA in a EA game style despite the game is not finished since community was complain about no playable Daisy before update and lack of playable arena. Plus they still didn't do anything for Mario Kart and I talk for the real Mario Kart 9 that we still don't have on Switch, not the port of Mario Kart 8 from Wii U to Switch with Nintendo who add content for a 10 years ago arround game and the Nintendo players are so dumb by say they are happy about it instead to be happy to see the real Mario Kart 9 coming for the Switch. No longer wonder why 3/4 of Nintendo community only swear by grab monney recycled game now, they don't have any taste in video game for the good quality, all they just care and want it's just garbage game or recycled stuff or old port from old console to the Switch, nothting more. A good video game like Metroid? Star Fox? Zelda? Pikmin? They don't care! That why the Nintendo Switch gonna be my last Nintendo console. I don't see where the point to buy their next new console if it's for be in front of a Nintendo Switch 2 about the game list is mainly Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Kirby and Splatoon games while others games are forgotten as people only swear by just grab monney games. It was long but it's my own point of view to see things and I don't really care if what I say hurt people despite it's the true, i'm feel sick to always meeting bad faith Nintendo fanboy who refuse to see the true in front of their eye so if people like what I say it's good, if people don't like what I say then I don't care about it but if there is one thing that we really need is a new Star Fox game on the Switch. So, no, the Star Fox serie isn't dead. It's just Nintendo is too much lazy to take care of it since they know they will have less monney than those stupid Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Kirby and Splatoon games since they become a sort of EA, Activision and Rockstar-like instead be themself like in the good old time when Iwata was alive and that they always try to take care of their own community as priority and not for the monney.
Thanks for sharing and I definitely agree with you on some aspects. I haven't played that many Kirby games but definitely can see how franchises like kid Icarus f-zero and pikmin as well as star fox are heavily underrated and ignored by Nintendo. It's sad. Definitely need to see another Star Fox game on soon.
Recently I've started to feel the same. If nintendo doesn't make a new star fox game, I'm not getting the next system. It's just not worth it if my favorite series isn't there.
Star Fox is at it's best when it's a pure rail shooter and doesn't have Nintendo shoving some harebrained gimmick into it. Maybe one day, they'll see that
However I've start to realize that even if nintendo made an extremely well made star fox game, it's not going to do well. What I mean by this is if nintendo made a 64 style game that is a sequel and has no gimmick, it's still not going to sell well as people might think. Same goes for a star fox game that would evolve the formula like assault did and for the same reason. The fans If we get a sf game that evolves the game play then it will get bashed for not being like 64. But if they go back to 64 style it won't sell well either as the fans who want the series to evolve wouldn't buy it. I don't even think a fine balance will do. Nostalgia is something that help metroid get back on its feet as evident with m2r, my, mpr, and eventually mp4. But when it comes to starfox a series that has more 3rd party representation then any series that I know. There isn't a whole lot of ground to stand on to say with confidence that starfox is an "on rails shooter, plane sim, multiple rout game". We have the on rails, plane sim sure but we also have three other starfox game with ground combat and two that don't technically have on rails. From where I stand star fox is done. But I want to be wrong about that. I hope that we will get this series back on track with a game mostly everyone loves and has amazing sales. Shooting it right back up along side mario, link, and samus again.
Pretty good outlook on the whole thing. Star Fox is definitely in a rough place, having different companies keep developing new games and trying to innovate something new, just for the fans to turn their noses up at it saying we want more 'star fox 64'. But then when they release games just like it Zero it gets boiled alive for being a worst 64 clone. Its tough, like you said even if they released a very solid game if it doesn't sell then Star Fox is done. Still hoping it can come back though, some of my favourite games are from the franchise.
@@Legend-of-Kai I'm very glad that I'm not alone on this in terms of Fox's rough spot as well as the formula that would be good for the series. I've enjoyed your video, its a shorter version of Tactical Bacon Productions video he made awhile back who came to a similar conclusion (Video Title: How Nintendo Ruined Star Fox). Keep up the good work.
@@kurokamina8429 The problem is back then Nintendo can have multiple teams on a number of games. However ever since the 6th generation games required more to people to make them. I'll be honest with you, I have no clue how this franchise with this gameplay managed to be considered one of their "top" franchises. So I feel it's only natural
That was before nintendo abandoned StarFox after 64. As someone who didn't grow up with 64 but with the GC games, there was no reason to abandoned the playstyle of 64 and snes. Snes starfox did great and 64 did even better. The decline only starfox when starfox started jumping genres for no reason. It's like instead of getting major as mask, windwaker, and twilight princess which all played the same but with one or two mechanics that refreshes the experience. Nintendo decided to do a lesser version of a fire emblem game, then go back but the quality and polish that nintendo is known for isn't there, then do a metroid style game which feels like it was written by a poorly written fanfiction. When you don't put in the effort you don't get the results you want. I didn't even get into nintendos gimmick problem.
i only playd star fox quard but the gamecube ones and wii u looks so fun idk i just want to buy a wii only to buy the gamecube starfox games those looks so fun oh and btw quard is fun :)
How can I get in contact with Nintendo? They need to hire me because they clearly don't know what they're doing and need proper direction, from someone who knows what they're doing
>Zero announced, reboot of the series Alright, let's start again AGAIN now for real and clean this time, no 8-year story gap, no strange soap-opera plot from command >Miyamoto shoehorned the most akward and unnecesary control scheme ever Jesus, is it THAT hard to make an arcade on-rails shooter that also supports (At least) 2P Co op in story mode? Making a game isn't easy but damn...
Fun fact: StarFox Zero is not a reboot of the series. You can't find a single interview where they specifically call it a reboot. But you will find is them describing it as as a reimagining that exists along side 64 and the snes. Reimaginings themselves don't even equal reboots to nintendo as Metroid ZERO mission was a reimagining but it didn't reboot the series and was describe to co exists with the original. Additional fun fact: You can also find interviews where miyamoto said that he choose to go back to the 64 style because he felt like it's the style that would work with his gimmick. With that and miyamotos perspective on story, it was going to be a retelling of 64 because stories are last for him. Also weird reboot to still acknowledge dinosaur planet by name in your anime short, history of starfox trailer, and having pukpuk eggs in the ingredients for corneria cake in starlinks dlc. Adventures and assault is alive and well
It's safe to say that Nintendo has had no clue what to do with this franchise since the beginning. This is coming from someone who's never played a game from this series.
When someone who's never played any of the games knows its in deep water, thats when you know something needs to change about the franchise
@@Legend-of-Kaior…. Someone who has never played the game shouldn’t have a credible or reputable opinion on the subject right?
@@NeiyonSpyderbro forgor fire emblem, Marth

I Agree Whole Heartedly!
Yup. Even with Zero I felt like they should have taken more cues from Assault moving forward with both the gameplay and story.
@@redstreak9430 Fans disliked the on foot sections for having tank controls. You can get away with it in 2005, but not nowadays.
Praying for the day Star Fox returns to its former glory
I personally liked star fox assault it was tons of fun in my opinion.😊

I grew up with the StarFox games! They are parts of my childhood
They're great games
I recommend Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-sparked!, and Bot Vice there like Star Fox Assault in 2d.
While Starlink wasn’t the best game it had things the StarFox franchise needs:
-free roam gameplay within the galaxy and between planets, selectable pilots with skills and attributes, customizable ships just to name a few.
Star Fox Adventure was just incredible ! It's weird to me they didn't make a sequel of that game ...
I think its because of the feedback it got at the time. Nowadays people consider it a pretty decent game I loved it back then as well but the rest of the starfox fanbase didn't share that same feeling
@@Legend-of-Kai The problem is back then Nintendo can have multiple teams on a number of games. However ever since the 6th generation games required more to people to make them. In order for Nintendo in house to make a star fox game, they would have to slow down Mario, Zelda, or Pikmin releases, except we know that Nintendo is bias for Mario, Zelda, and Pikmin. This is why Nintendo uses third parties to make the games. The second Problem is that Strarfox games have always been short, so it's hard to evolve the series without making it gimmicky. The third problem is that Triple AAA companies today have little interest in making short games.
The good news is that indie companies love making short games.
I recommend exzodiac, Fur Squadron, and Astebreed.

Adventures is a good game, but it does have it's problems, and is nothing like a Star Fox game, or what one should be like.
I LOVE StarFox Assault, it´s a pretty good game and the missions are 10/10
Star Fox Assault is actually my favorite in the series.
Its a great game even with all the hate it gets
The fan game StarFox Event Horizon that’s still in beta shows that there is still hope… also there are leaks from zippo about a new StarFox game
Concept for a Star fox game:
take inspiration from ratchet & clank copy slight elements of it, make a good heart touching and interesting story, make fox fly through planets in the Laylat system, make the flying from planet to planet like the old games, make him land on those planets and make the gameplay on these planets be a 3D platformer with shooter elements and add some slight combos with melee and gun attacks (make the aiming good and give new weapons to make the player feel like he's progressing) and there you have it! a cool innovative and emotional Star fox game for switch. Which could potentially be awarded "game of the year"
Also...
I truly appreciate you 🙏
Mccloud's dad could be a reanimated flash and bone monster or a machine that looks like him, the whole point is to make mccloud lose himself

I loved star fox adventures. I’d love to see remade and improved.
Recently some Retro Studios ex employees revealed that Nintendo rejected a Star Fox pitch that was pretty much Mass Effect in the Star Fox universe.
Big oof.
Wow...Nintendo really out here giving Star Fox 0 chance of survival
Since the Switch has seen tons of franchise sales records, maybe there is a chance that they got something Star Fox planned (or at least for the next system)
As for video ideas, a Rise and Fall and Rise of Sonic would be super cool to watch :)
All they need is one game to ignite the fire once again. Will take the sonic idea into consideration, only problem is I have hardly played as many Sonic games as Nintendo games
Well, Star Link: Battle for Atlas, is kind of a Star Fox game
the problem is every star fox game is tied to some sort of gimmick. first game the fx chip. second game the rumble pack. ds game the touch screen. 3ds game the bad 3d nobody acully used. wii u game the tablet. switch game the whole star link tie in. gamecube first game just thrown in the boost sales of a different game. star fox assault was probably the only game not tied into something else and was just a star fox game.

Sounds like a cool idea
That was a great game series! I mean, why abandoned it?
I'll never forgive nintendo for giving up on starfox. It had so much potential - the best story and characterization of any nintendo franchise imo. Keep the rail shooting and improve the mechanics for the on-foot missions. At this point I'm so desparate for another starfox release, i dont even care what direction they go in.

I *loved* Assault, especially because of the kickass Soundtrack! (And also because the story had me think of the Borg from Star Trek, and as a TNG fan I really apprechiated that)

There's actually lots of Adventures sequels! They're just branded under this very obscure " Legend of Zelda" title. Why don't you check them out

I feel its death came from multiple angles:
Divided fanbase with those who wanted adventure elements who also tended to be more on the furry aspect of things, the original die hard rail shooter fans who wanted subtle changes and craved innovation to the mechanics, and the other side of the original base that loved the rail shooter aspect but didn't want change at all.

I actually really love the game now though after giving it a revisit in recent years.
The decline of Wave Race and / or 1080 would be amazing!
At least we have A Fox in Space.
I think a lot of people are bored by the rail shooter design of 64. I would rather see Starfox rebooted into something like Ratchet and Clank and throw in some Arwing Missions in between. We need more 3rd person adventure games from Nintendo and I think Starfox can fill this role.
After looking at footage of ratchet and clank, YES! It looks like where star fox should have went a long time ago
Starlink isnt even a Star Fox game and yet it is still one of the best Star Fox games lmao. I think Nintendo could use Starlink as inspiration for a new Star Fox game.
Pretty solid suggestion. Never actually played star link myself but have heard very good things about it for the most part

@@caioleite5579 I thought Starlink was a cool game, but I'd say SF Assault and SF SNES were also better games. Not nearly as many fetch quests and much more combat. Starlink could get repetitive at times.

Too true, they need to just bring it back and try again. There's definitely a market for the game

Okay then! You have your proof:
If what I say is accusated to be a sort of misinformation like say most of Nintendo players who are in bad faith and refuse to see the true in front of their sheep eyes then what was all this cinema about the Pokemon community who doesn't stop complain like a cry baby and insult others Pokemon community who aren't okay with them about how the graphics look ugly?
The fans
If we get a sf game that evolves the game play then it will get bashed for not being like 64.
The third problem is that AAA companies today have little interest in making short games.
The good news is that indie companies love making short games.
I recommend exzodiac, Fur Squadron, and Astebreed.
Also make the series available for Xbox and ps players like 007 that may help big time.
Star Fox 64 bois
Star Fox decline is proff of Nintendo laziness
Star fox is now 30 this year and there’s been leaks and rumours of a new or remake of star fox
I bloody hope so...
i only playd star fox quard but the gamecube ones and wii u looks so fun idk i just want to buy a wii only to buy the gamecube starfox games those looks so fun oh and btw quard is fun :)
I believe Star Fox 64 and Adventures are the best.
Both solid games for sure
Miyamoto's obsession with gimmick controls killed this series.
Nintendo when they make a game for any other ip:
Ganeplay first, story second.
Miyamoto when making a starfox game:
Gimmick first, star fox last
Can you do pikmin next?
I will probably do a Pikmin video eventually yes
Cmon brah we all know the copy you played wasn't called Star Fox 64
Lmao
How can I get in contact with Nintendo? They need to hire me because they clearly don't know what they're doing and need proper direction, from someone who knows what they're doing
😖
Sad times theres hope in the future though
@@Legend-of-Kai 🙏❤
>Zero announced, reboot of the series
Alright, let's start again AGAIN now for real and clean this time, no 8-year story gap, no strange soap-opera plot from command
>Miyamoto shoehorned the most akward and unnecesary control scheme ever
Jesus, is it THAT hard to make an arcade on-rails shooter that also supports (At least) 2P Co op in story mode? Making a game isn't easy but damn...
Fun fact:
StarFox Zero is not a reboot of the series.
Adventures and assault is alive and well
StarFox Cancelled and Failed
The rail shooter gameplay sucks. Everything else is amazing.
NOPE IS STAR FOX
