The "I don't know, I wasn't there" types of reviews happen because google will actually take best guesses at where you were based on GPS and give you notifications asking you to review the place.
You might have been to PetSmart but google thought you were at Best Buy. Mix in an older person and you get these reviews.
I thought about making this same comment. This happens to me all the time. It's pretty annoying. "How was Starbucks?" When I was at the grocery store. It reminds me of the way a jealous boyfriend or girlfriend would ask when they're trying to catch you doing something sneaky but you're not.
I don't like how much this comment relates to me, I have actually had a review notification thing for Best buy when I really was at PetSmart
My google maps has been asking me to review places in Maine (I live in Ohio) for the past year or so. It’s strange but I just turned off notifications for maps, oh well

Sometimes google's location tracking reminds you to review a business that it thinks you visited recently. For example, I visited an IHOP about 40 minutes from my home and the next day I was asked to writre a review. That's probably why there are people writing "I've never been there" - they saw a notification and assumed they had to write a review
Yeah, I frequently get notifications to review the store or restaurant next to the place I was actually visiting.
It's the same as all those people who answer "I don't know" or "why are you asking me?" to questions on amazon.
You spend 2min in front of a place and google thinks you went there and asks you to review it.... I get those all the time.
After a while the more reviews you post the more points you get. I got a couple free movie tickets. And got a 10 dollar gift card. Just for answering the google maps questions

Broward County: the mass shooting that was treated with absolute negligence by the school officer and the entire sheriff's department. The mass shooting that was warned about and responded to with LESS security so that the county didn't look bad.

Kale C, at least one kid died at my school. (There was a small hill we were sliding off in winter, then it got icy, on a territory of a full-boarding school. Turned put to be a giant constructing trash pile with sand on top, then piece of trash came out(?) and kid got some kind of lethal injury while sliding down. Pile got removed.) …So yeah, that's possible.
Also my sister broke a clavicle on a playground there. Nowadays they have a ridiculously small and safe, I guess, playground.
I have a friend that walked into a gymnasium to see a couple of kids in high school curb stomping another kid. He ended up dying with a fractured skull.
