ok i'm half an hour in and all they have talked about is how youtubing is from the perspective of a youtuber and i'm getting pretty tired of it.
half of this podcast (all episodes) is about how they feel about youtubing and i'm not fucking that interested. it's like people who work at banks keep talking about how working in a bank is like. hours and hours and hours and hours

Vsauce was the first channel I discovered, that literally changed my life. I was homeschooled and brought up religiously. I am also dyslexic so reading was kinda out of the picture for me.
And no one ever told me that people knew how stuff worked. And how he linked things up moved from topic to topic is exactly how my brain works.
I am now getting my PhD in molecular biology, and it does have a large part because of people like Michael.

Much like William with eatable vs edible, I have a sorta similar view with alone vs lonely. Not sure if its an original take. Alone is physical, lonely is mental. Loneliness and being alone can correlate and/or be related. Take a happy hermit of a woodsman and throw them in the middle of the forest by themselves. They will be all alone but not necessarily feeling lonely and at a party you can be surrounded by dozens of people and still feel lonely despite not being physically alone.

Awesome how Michael tries to answer all the questions of his kid at night. My dad did the same for me and i loved it so much it helped make big thinks less scary and Mundane thinks much more exiting. I hope to be able to do this for my kids someday and I encourage everyone to do this as well.

I agree about the showering in the dark thing. I have a skylight in my bathrooms so its usually lit in the morning but at night, or when traveling I like to turn on the minimal amount of light the bathroom allows, sometimes just the makeup mirror or whatever. I think its calming to shower in the dark.

I love Michael's point about breaking down the concept and explaining it for someone who isn't familiar with the terminology. That is why I really enjoy Chubbyemu's videos, he explains exactly what is happening in a way that isn't talking down to his audience, but informing them on what is taking place.

As someone who has a family history and had second hand experiences with dementia, it absolutely terrifies me. They just forget, and then never remember. They become a husk of their former self, slowly but surely forgetting everything they once knew and loved. I had gotten a nightmare over a decade ago, that still sticks with me to this day. It is a fear that I will never escape. It is absolutely impossible to escape it, because I might possibly have already experienced its effects hundreds of times. I just suddenly forget what I'm doing while I'm in the process of doing it. I'll think of what to say or write, and then poof. What I wanted to say never existed, only a feeling and the before and after of it.

That's kind of funny that Michael details that example about "why are we putting so much protection and police presence around someone we're ultimately going to sentence?" and then says "I will immediately cross a topic off my list if there's a twitter thread about it" because there are many, MANY twitter threads about exactly that illogical, overly policed/protected but ultimately vulnerable and discarded treatment of incarcerated people. (But I really like that that's how he approaches his vid topics and he has given me much to think about over the years because he intentionally explores the unexplored! Love this episode.)
