Great video Matt! I’ve now got 15,000 miles on my RS-1’s and I could not be happier. On the highway they are so plush...but in the curves, they track and handle incredible. I have them set on the softest setting and not once have they bottomed out...whereas the stock shocks did bottom daily! As far as length for shorter riders.....I went with the 13” which does raise the seat height by 1/2”. While that small amount wasn’t noticeable for me, I did have Mean City Cycles lower my stock seat by 1” and add their double layer memory foam option. Between the shocks and seat...500-800 miles days are easy and so enjoyable!
These are absolutely the best upgrade you can make to the 2019 (or 20) Electra Glide Standard. I know it was de-graded but the shocks were absolutely impossible to live with. What an amazing difference!! After riding 54 years on over 22 different motorcycles, this is one of the most dramatic upgrades ever. Standard shocks are 12" and have only 1.5" total travel of which .0" (yes, 0) goes to no-load sag and .5" goes to rider sitting sag. So you have only 1" travel for a hit and only .5" (with no dampening) for a dip before bottoming. Could never find a compromise for the multiple uses I have. Used the 13" instead of 12" RMD shocks and gained another inch total travel. They suggested and I used .5" no load sag and 1" rider load sag. So now I have 1.5" for dips and 1.5" for hits with dampening in both directions. In Florida with drainage gutters at every road juncture, I no longer have to cringe to take the double hit (compression and rebound); on the high speed Interstates, the bike is stable and I don't even flinch anymore when I have to hit either cracks, raised concrete/asphalt edges or debris. Absolutely amazing. Didn't think I could be this impressed.
At 1:57 you mention that street riders are never going to adjust the high speed compression damping - that it's for the racers. High or low speed damping has nothing to do with bike speed. It refers to the speed of the shock shaft moving through its stroke. Low speed compression damping change the speed that the shock compresses when the shaft is moving slowly, like the front to rear weight transfer during acceleration, or the rear to front weight transfer during breaking, or low speed speed bumps. It also applies to slow suspension movements like g-outs when you hit a dip in the road at a high bike speed. High speed damping is active when the shock shaft is moving quickly, like when hitting square edged bumps, potholes, rumble strips, or cobblestones and the shock compresses quickly - regardless of how fast you are going.

Interesting. Most shocks have fixed compression damping and let you twiddle with the rebound damping. These are the first I've seen with variable compression & fixed rebound. The rebound is what takes the pogo out of spirited riding. If it's too high, it won't allow the spring to extend quickly enough and the shock will start packing and the back tire won't stay on the ground over the bumpy stuff. Maybe they use the same circuit for both and he didn't mention it? Same size here, been looking around for a shock for my 05 Road Glide. I'm using now stock with 2" lowering bracket....I guess there's nothing for us. May settle for a 11" Progressive.
Hey Matt sorry for the late reply but my powder coat guy took forever so the bike was all apart and no test ride. Ok 2015 SGS stock shocks we all know they sucked, put these new RWD's on went around the corner where there is a rise in the road the flattens out, it would normally almost toss me out of the seat this time i hit at 60 mph and never felt it good so far, then time for the freeway and we all know Socal freeways suck so up to 85 mph and very smooth then took an interchange ramp at about 65 mph first a left bank then a right bank..WOW hard to explain but felt very sure footed like I had new sticky tires or something the bike just seemed to grip the road better I know it's the shocks. So, first opinion is they are a good investment $900 to my door and I love them. Thanks for the vid Matt or I might not of heard of these.
If I ride mountains and canyon and it is all turns at 60-115 ish would it benefit me to play with the red adjusrment? I get so much rear woble. I am running the -13 1/2” . I am +2 in front. I am only bagger everyone else is home Dynas
Now that we’re in the Performance Bagger era, suspension is paramount! 100 plus in a curve you’ll need a better than stock setup. Rwd sounds like part of the answer, I say part of the answer because the front suspension need upgraded if you plan on riding it like you stole it from time to time. Just my .02
Thank you for the video and advice. Unfortunately I’m on the other side of the spectrum with a 30” inseam. I currently have a 2018 Street Glide Special Anniversary Edition and want to lower my suspension while also improving my ride. Is there a set of shocks that would allow my to be flat footed with at least the Stock Shock feel if not better. I’ve already changed my seat to help with lowering but I’m still about an inch away. Thank you! Joe
They're not a $26K price and the shocks are marginal at best. 2 inches of travel on a Road Glide in the rear is a joke when you hit a rail road track or a hammer type of bump.
They have a heavy duty version if you have 350lbs + So i weight 275lbs with maybe 40lbs more with saddle bags filled so id just get the heavy duty version. Also my lady 160lbs plus my 275lbs is more than 350lbs. My 2013 Harley street glide rides like a brick, with the 2 inch lowering kit installed on the back, thinking of removing stock air shocks, and replacing them with Burly 10.5 inch slammer shocks, trying to ride smooth at a low altitude 🙂
Yes I got them for Christmas , I love them, improved ride no more sharp sharp jolts. I like them so much that when I went to Sturgis at the front forks down as well very happy
It should be mentioned that if you are running a backrest that connects to your shock mount and front 2 of your docking kit, you have a choice to make. Lose the backrest or don’t put these shocks on. Currently I’m looking for a backrest/luggage rack that connects to just the 4 point docking hardware before I put mine on. Having a hard time finding this for my SGST……
What about going to two up one the bike and two up with luggages? You have to crank up the spring with that wrench every time right? Is there any reference to go back to the previous setting?
I am looking for information on the m8 concerning the oil fluid transfer problem is there a fix out yet, I have a 17 limited that leaks a lot of oil from the transmission to the clutch.
Matt Laidlaw I ride a 19 RGS and put 13" Legend Revo-A's on it. It definitely rides much better than stock, but I'm still looking for something better. Also looking to upgrade front suspension. I've noticed the stock front end gets shaky over bumpy freeway turns at 80+ mph. Have you seen what Big Bear Choppers is doing with baggers using Ohlins shocks and cartridges? Would you be able to get your hands on one and do a review? Particularly on the 13" Ohlins Blackline shocks with his shock extender and the Nix 22 cartridge kit (designed for a dyna, but modified to fit a bagger). Hope to see a video on this topic soon. Thanks again for all your great videos
Jon I am trying to put together a Fatster, with Evo 1200 sportster engine and a 1950-60 Glide look No bags or fairing. single seat. Kind of a bobber cruiser. can I get Harley air shocks on a sportster frame?
I noticed that these are 13" minimum. OEM on my Streetglide is 12". Do you prefer the longer shock? How do you think the 13" would work with a lowering link to bring it down 1-2"?
Yes I much prefer the longer shock. I don’t like the lowering kits. There isn’t much sense to put a taller shock on a bike then reposition the mounting to lower it. Honestly I don’t think these shocks would fit with a lowering kit because there is a separate bracket that needs to be installed to keep the piggy back reservoir out of the way of the bags.
After changing shocks, but keeping original fork, does it affect the behavior of the bike, especially the front wheel? Is it worth it to change as well the fork or is it enough changing the shocks?
have you tried the front cartridges from RWD? what is your opinion on them? I love the rear RWD piggybacks but I'm not sure how I feel about the fronts.
Matt, I’ve watched a few of your comparisons on rear shocks and one thing I am curious about is the length. I have a 20 CVO Street Glide and I am about to upgrade the suspension. You’ve talked about the 13” but I notice that RWD has a 13.5” and a 14” as well. Would you recommend going longer than a 13”? My guess would be that it would add clearance in the turns but I’m unsure of any cons one might experience. Thoughts?
I have these shocks on my streetglide and I recommend them to everyone I know. They improved the ride and comfort 100%. The only thing I wish is they could be adjusted without removing the saddlebags. When they come out with a fork cartridge I will have that too.
Thanks Matt for the video. I'm trying to avoid getting rid of my 17' RGS if possible. The issue has been the suspension. I'm 145lbs and get bounced around everywhere on it. I upgraded from OEM to SuperShox last fall which gave an extra inch of travel but it has made a very marginal difference. Still a rough ride on anything that's not smooth, taking all of the joy out of the ride. I am considering switching from coil to air shocks to see if that would make a difference. If I can get a smoother ride I'll keep the bike, but otherwise will trade-in/sell. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
@@donnieraylockhart5027 ultimately, the shocks made little difference for me. I even put 17 inch rims on the front on my glide to smooth out the ride, which again made a marginal difference. The game changer was actually finding the right seat that could sit me back further on the rear shocks (another option was one of those super comfy and thick seats). Because I’m 5’ 9” I needed to bring back the handlebars- I got the 2 + 2 bars for that. Getting longer floor boards can help too when sitting back further 👌🏼
Hi Matt RodersUnited here. After trying few of different shocks which one will you say are the best? I consider Legends/Ohlins and SuperShox lately and dont want to make mistake while spending money.
Hey Matt. Just purchased a 2019 CVO HD Street Glide The stock shocks are brutal. Bottoms out. After watching your video and a year later Do you have a different opinion about the shocks for my bike? I have looked at Russ shocks and the Ohlins shocks. What do you recommend? Stock shocks are 12”. I thought 13”
Have you ridden on The Fox + Roland Sands Design Harley Signature Series QS3-R? Does RWD make a front fork cartridge? Nice video, thanks for posting, perfect timing as I'm installing suspension on my '17 Road King. Looking at Fox right now but the reservoirs get in the way for my rear rack. I like this setup.
Good info Matt as always! Plz can you advise on the front suspension as well? Are there any better after market solutions out there for a 2018 Ultra Limited. I feel that the 2019 stock models have better shocks/suspension than its previous models. Plz shed some light on this. Have been looking for this info since a while, but none have covered it. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
Matt, I put these on my 19 SGS... wondering if I can put a 21 inch wheel up front to achieve the same suspension geometry of my SGS when it was stock. Thanks!
If you’re going for ride comfort I wouldn’t do a 21 inch wheel. They also mess up your handling. They look good though. The extra height might even out the front and back a bit though.
Does that adjustment canister get in the way of aftermarket bags? Will other mods interfere with these? Like if you've lowered the bike an inch or two? And how would these compare to a Dirty Bird system?
They fit great with stock bags. So I assume they will fit with any bag but maybe I’m wrong. If you use the RW shocks then you aren’t lowering the bike. Either you use the RW shock or a lower shock. You can’t use both.
Another great video! Jared at RWD set me up with a custom set of 13 inch RS-1’s, (Heavy Duty with soft valving) for my ‘19 Road Glide. I’m replacing the Legends Air Ride. We ride the canyons just north of Yosemite & Tahoe. What front suspension kit would you recommend to replace my stock set up? GP? I hear that RWD will be launching a front suspension kit in a few months? Thanks for the great videos! If you’re ever near Lodi or Tahoe…Hit me up! We can show you guys around!!!
Great vid!! I’m very interested in these but what options to you have for the front suspension if you want to change them? Do they offer front suspension?
So I happened to come across video for fox vs legends shocks and I about pulled the trigger on Fox, then this video popped up, do you still like these shocks better then fox or legends
This is a good helpful video. One thing I've noticed with various reviews comparing the street glide and chieftain it's pretty much agreed that the Indian bike has a more comfortable rear suspension. For those who like the HD styling better but want more comfort this is a good solution.
Thanks for the review. I just dumped a lot of $$ on a full Legend setup, so not something I'd personally change at this point. Love to test out the RWD stuff sometime though!
Just installed these thanks to your video Matt. Huge difference in comfort and bumps. Being 5'6" without shoes I was a little concerned about going a little higher but absolutely no issues. A week later I installed Legend AXEO for the front and glad I did. Too bad nothing offered by RWD for the front.

@@bradmerrill7134 What’s your weight? Also did you get the 13”? I do like mine, but as I said earlier, I don’t have much to compare to other than the stock shocks.
Great video! I just picked up a pair of these on Black Friday. Got a great deal.
Love these shocks. Massive difference in comfort. Worth every penny
How do they compare to the Fox and Legend Shocks you reviewed earlier?
These are superior to those. Those are nice upgrades, but this is top notch stuff. Still a bit too stiff for my weight though ~150 lbs

Another great review. What shock would you recommend for us shorter guys? 5'8 30 inseam here. Thanks
Answered the questions I hadn't thought about asking yet. Thanks Matt!
Thank you! Joe
I love my setup on my 17 FLTRXS RS-1 rear & Legend 21 front
The price you pay for a new HD bagger, the best shocks had better already be on the bike when you buy it.
They're not a $26K price and the shocks are marginal at best. 2 inches of travel on a Road Glide in the rear is a joke when you hit a rail road track or a hammer type of bump.
Anything can be improved...
@@brianmaclennan561 I think you missed the point.
2020 road glide special. My rear shocks suck ass.
Shoot, we pay so much for our diesel trucks now, I wish they came with the best suspension.
How would you rate them for a heavier rider - 240-250?
Or 300+?
They have a heavy duty version if you have 350lbs +
So i weight 275lbs with maybe 40lbs more with saddle bags filled so id just get the heavy duty version.
Also my lady 160lbs plus my 275lbs is more than 350lbs. Make sense?

SD Bomedy CLASH OF CLANS I’m 250 and occasionally ride with a passenger. Would you still recommend the HD shock?
@@aortiz1105 honestly, if you are ridong long trips with passanger ALL THE TIME, then get heavy duty. But if its sometimes long trip and mostly short trips, get the regular. You gotta make the bike feel awesome for yourself in my opinion. Ultimately, anything upgraded from stock will benifit both of you.
My 2013 Harley street glide rides like a brick, with the 2 inch lowering kit installed on the back, thinking of removing stock air shocks, and replacing them with Burly 10.5 inch slammer shocks, trying to ride smooth at a low altitude 🙂
I’m looking at the legend Revo -A for my CVO RG.2019
Dwight Raine I’ve got them
on my 17 RK
Dwight, did you get them and like them?
Yes I got them for Christmas , I love them, improved ride no more sharp sharp jolts. I like them so much that when I went to Sturgis at the front forks down as well very happy
@@dwightraine9686 Awesome to hear! Yeah, the jolts are killin my back. I appreciate it. Ride safe!
Thanks Matt....Good video! Looks like they were installed upside down.
On baggers the reservoir mounts at the bottom. it doesn't affect the functionality. These shocks work great!
Hi Matt, id love it if you would cover front suspension setup. thanks
I got a performance bagger Road Glide video coming in about a month. Stay tuned.
Matt, another great video. Quick question, what riding gloves do you wear in this video? Thank you!
Matt, do you see The touring models going to a mono shock like the softail? Thanks.
I see that happening at some point for sure. Monoshock is an objectively superior design.
Yes, we are building one soon with the big bear front and rear suspension (ohlins). Stay tuned.
@@MattLaidlaw Awesome, can't wait. Thanks.
Would you recommend these over legends? I ride 2 up half the time
Jon I am trying to put together a Fatster, with Evo 1200 sportster engine and a 1950-60 Glide look No bags or fairing. single seat. Kind of a bobber cruiser. can I get Harley air shocks on a sportster frame?
Thanks Matt,I will like to see you try all the different Harley seats they got to offer. And can you fit a CVO seat on a Road Glad Ultra?
I noticed that these are 13" minimum. OEM on my Streetglide is 12". Do you prefer the longer shock? How do you think the 13" would work with a lowering link to bring it down 1-2"?
Yes I much prefer the longer shock. I don’t like the lowering kits. There isn’t much sense to put a taller shock on a bike then reposition the mounting to lower it. Honestly I don’t think these shocks would fit with a lowering kit because there is a separate bracket that needs to be installed to keep the piggy back reservoir out of the way of the bags.
Nice .. but honestly everyone is looking for “set and forget” with electronic controls wired for 2up... The Wilbur suspension is a great product
Just put a set my 21 RGS …thanks for a great video
Matt what are running in your front end , in conjunction with the RWD ?
After changing shocks, but keeping original fork, does it affect the behavior of the bike, especially the front wheel? Is it worth it to change as well the fork or is it enough changing the shocks?
Do they make something for the front? It would be nice to get something that's matched up.
Matt....what are your tame riding gloves with the zipper on the back?
have you tried the front cartridges from RWD? what is your opinion on them? I love the rear RWD piggybacks but I'm not sure how I feel about the fronts.
Is there any way to design a suspension system using load cells to control rebound and compression electronically threw the computer?
I know on some racing bikes there is such thing as actively managed electronic suspension control.
Lots of different bike manufacturers already have this even their touring models but lmo it would be overkill for HD touring bikes
Can anyone tell me what jacket that is though? Lol. I want that style
One more...and this may sound dumb...but are those shocks mounted upside down...or does it matter?
What size shocks were installed on this bike ? thanks
13 inch
Thanks are u still riding them ?
That's great for tall people, but what if you have a 26 inch inseam ?
Thanks!
Jordan, what did you finally get, and what were the best results
@@donnieraylockhart5027 ultimately, the shocks made little difference for me. I even put 17 inch rims on the front on my glide to smooth out the ride, which again made a marginal difference. The game changer was actually finding the right seat that could sit me back further on the rear shocks (another option was one of those super comfy and thick seats). Because I’m 5’ 9” I needed to bring back the handlebars- I got the 2 + 2 bars for that. Getting longer floor boards can help too when sitting back further 👌🏼

I haven’t tried the Roland sands / fox collaborate stuff. I’m sure it’s great though. It’s probably just fix shocks with branding on them.
Cheers!
The front suspension is really nice actually, you have to spend silly money on an inverted front end to improve it in any meaningful way.

If the factory shocks on the Street Glide are 12" and these RWD RS-1 shocks are 13", couldn't you add a 1" lowering block to remain stock height?
