I went for the M3 xDrive. Made the most sense to enjoy the (no speed limit) on the German autobahn. Plus is absolutely amazing on small and twisty country roads. Thanks for this comparison and congrats on being the only one with it!

No the ct4v is just that disappointing. I test drive one at Laguna seca for a Cadillac event. And this is coming from an ex camaro ss 1le owner I would take every opportunity to praise gm performance. My base 3.4L 911 with 350hp and no torque accelerates basically as fast as the ct4v black wing. The ct4v black wing gets outrun in a straight line by the m340i let alone anything with an s58. The ct4v is a nearly perfect car in every other way it just has a competley disappointing engine.
Our ATS-V'S have the LF4 engine like the 4 BW. $2500 in parts, e85, and a tune and you gain 200 whp. We have one making 630 whp and another making right at 700 whp. I bought both cars for the price of one BMW.
The dude brings some insane races no one thinks of! I love it. This is probably the only official drag race of the CT4 BW I have seen so far. Kudos to Sam ❤

I wish Sam would give us the MPH at the 1/4 mile mark, that would give a much better idea of real HP. I can tell you my 3950 curb weight RWD Auto ~540 crank hp runs 12.2 @ 116 mph on the street. That 116 is indictive of HP, the 12.2 can be altered by many factors.

Do a road course test next, performance is a lot more than just acceleration, every test for road course the Cadillac skunks the Bimmer, that is engineering.
The bw launch control does give you wheelspin but i got two 4.2 sec 0-60 runs with it on. (I only tried twice). You can see the power diference once in third gear. I bet the m3 has 40+ more whp than advertised. Lots of people ragging on Sam's skills but i think he was within a few tenths of what the bw is capable of stock in the 1/4.

I sold BMW and the longer in gear acceleration helps and the elasticity of the engine is its strong point. Apparently the CTSv4 Blackwing has a great chassis and feel..buy what you enjoy.. I still enjoy my 6 speed e90 more then the new cars I drove, different experience. Best pick is the M340 tuned. So much potential.

I just bought a 2020 CT4 V with the 2.7L turbo. And i absolutly am inlove with the car. Been driving it for about 3 months. Its fully loaded and i will say ill wait a few yrs and look to the blackwing. This was a good race to see
Yeah on paper they look similar but on the dyno the BW puts down 415ish WHP and the M3/M4 puts down 500+ whp. Big difference. Also i noticed you didnt use the launch control on the BW. Not sure if the m3 has launch control.
Great comparison. As others have mentioned the M3 is underated. I had a 2021 M3 base auto, non X drive. Now I have a 22 Blackwing w carbon package. 10 speed. My honest opinion M3 Quicker acceleration Better looking interior/Materials Better looking wheels Better finish overall Blackwing A tad slower overall/ seat of the pants Rides better w/ magnetic suspension Feels more planted Fit and finish a tad on the lower side I feel it looks better overall than the Beamer, except the wheels. Thinking of doing JB4 / down pipes/intake. Should take me to 600+ at the wheels.

I had a f82 M4, then an ATSV (now have a 4BW). I feel like your assessment is spot on. I do think the f82 was a great looking car though. I don't know wtf BMW is thinking these days with the styling, the new 7 is an atrocity, and this coming from someone who didn't hate the Bangle era.

This was the expected outcome. I'd love to see the difference in a track race instead. M3 obviously has more hp than listed but surprised how fast it really is. I'd still take the blackwing any day. Looks better and won't be in the shop constantly. Also way cheaper to maintain and more reliable.
Straight line performance is one test, driving on a road course is another. With the exception of the “CS” variants of the M3, I think the CT4 Blackwing’s chassis would give it an edge over the M3. It’s the overall dynamic handling and package of the Blackwing that’s so special. It’s what BMW used to do so well, but GM beat them at it this time. The motor on the BMW M cars is spectacular though!
Sporting comparisons are more important than insulting each other. As a BMW fan, I think it's good to have a new competitor - see CT5-V BW and M5 Comp.
I'm from Germany, or rather Bavaria, where BMW is at home. I had a BMW 7 Series and a BMW 5 Series myself. But then I had a Cadillac Eldorado and a Cadillac STS. Cadillac is also my favorite brand. So much elegance, great technology, luxury and beauty combined with sportiness is unique. And still cheaper than the competition (BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi). No other car brand can do that. This Cadillac should race an M340i, even then I don’t think it would win.. mainly cause of the advantage from the ZF8 auto. If they were both auto that would be interesting..
M3 on drag race will pull away, same on anything below 60mph. Anything higher they basically stay the same. On track the M3 with cup tires will have an edge but that GT350 still a beast on a track.

He's had some questionabke matchups throughout his earlier tenure. He has his favorites for sure. He seems to be more inline with BMW (he owns or owned one) and they are one of my favs as well but might come down to availability and securing cars etc.

I have no idea why Cadillac insists on sticking to the conjunctivitis headlight and taillight treatment? But it didn't look good at its launch and it certainly hasn't gotten better with time, especially the taillights on this thing. It's a decent enough looking car otherwise, aside from the typical GM interior. But even for the price difference, BMW everyday/all day, even with the goofy grill!

Both cars are awesome but M3 has more power than the ct4 v black wings I got a little confused about both cars having the same Hp and torque but the price difference of 22 thousand probably m3 will have a lot of space inside but I like both of cars thanks Sam have a nice day
BMW's M cars will win the drag races and roll races, but Blackwings are for real drivers that enjoy more than just driving fast in a straight line. I drove a ct4v blackwing and a is500, that Cadillac was quick, but felt so bland with that v6.. lexus felt just as fast, but wayyyyy funner to drive, actually made me feel something. Build quality on the lexus blows the Cadillac away in every way also.. but i always eanted to see a drag race between the two out of curiosity. They both make 472 hp That is500 is special for sure

I’ve watched 2 videos with Sam and Cadillac and for some reason I’m not fully satisfied with his drive. When you have similar specs it’s a great idea to switch cars and drivers. It’s just an observation don’t hate on me, I own a 2023 Cadillac Ct5 V and love the power plus the look.

BMW makes 550 bhp. You can see online dynos. People that comment here like that have zero clue, so it doesn’t bother me.

Crazy how much a manual transmission and RWD handicaps these cars. The AWD and automatic transmission are just so much better for performance.

you're high if you think a JB4 tune will pump 600 wheel HP lmao. Owned many AMGs and S line audis and a few M cars, legit delusional if you believe some cheap ass tune and some DP will pump out that much more HP.
I had a f82 M4, then an ATSV (now have a 4BW). I feel like your assessment is spot on. I do think the f82 was a great looking car though. I don't know wtf BMW is thinking these days with the styling, the new 7 is an atrocity, and this coming from someone who didn't hate the Bangle era.
@@George0674 i also had 2 ATSV’s 16’ crystal white sedan and 19’ steel gray coupe. I miss the coupe so much.
@@bunzaroo yeah, mine was a 19 Coupe in Wave Metallic (blue), one of 4 with the 6mt. The BW is the first new 4 door car I've ever bought. I miss the coupe styling, but nice to easily throw things in the back seat.

Yeap.. m3 had @510bhp OR that blackwing had @440bhp. Wasn't about shifting at all.. from third gear up.. power cloud be seen.
Shifting your own really slows down both. The autos are seamless and are so much more controlled.

This was the expected outcome. I'd love to see the difference in a track race instead. M3 obviously has more hp than listed but surprised how fast it really is.
I'd still take the blackwing any day. Looks better and won't be in the shop constantly. Also way cheaper to maintain and more reliable.

Straight line performance is one test, driving on a road course is another. With the exception of the “CS” variants of the M3, I think the CT4 Blackwing’s chassis would give it an edge over the M3. It’s the overall dynamic handling and package of the Blackwing that’s so special. It’s what BMW used to do so well, but GM beat them at it this time. The motor on the BMW M cars is spectacular though!
I remember being told by the dealership that ct4 blackwing is impossible to get but now I'm seeing quite a few on auto trader.
the 2024 ct4 are getting redesigned inside and it’s a 20yr anniversary i’m hoping to get a black wing or v. next summer
Sporting comparisons are more important than insulting each other. As a BMW fan, I think it's good to have a new competitor - see CT5-V BW and M5 Comp.
I'm from Germany, or rather Bavaria, where BMW is at home. I had a BMW 7 Series and a BMW 5 Series myself. But then I had a Cadillac Eldorado and a Cadillac STS.
Cadillac is also my favorite brand. So much elegance, great technology, luxury and beauty combined with sportiness is unique. And still cheaper than the competition (BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi). No other car brand can do that.
It doesn't get any better than this. Cadillac!!! 😊👍🏼

M3 on drag race will pull away, same on anything below 60mph. Anything higher they basically stay the same.
On track the M3 with cup tires will have an edge but that GT350 still a beast on a track.

He's had some questionabke matchups throughout his earlier tenure. He has his favorites for sure. He seems to be more inline with BMW (he owns or owned one) and they are one of my favs as well but might come down to availability and securing cars etc.

I have no idea why Cadillac insists on sticking to the conjunctivitis headlight and taillight treatment? But it didn't look good at its launch and it certainly hasn't gotten better with time, especially the taillights on this thing. It's a decent enough looking car otherwise, aside from the typical GM interior. But even for the price difference, BMW everyday/all day, even with the goofy grill!
Same - once I drove my girls OLD 535i that's been tuned - I'm a believer! Thing just gets OUT! It's also quiet/comfortable and a tank sorta!

On the CT4 BW the ECU has a boost cut from factory until its been operating for I think 10 or 15 minutes.
No, 180 degree oil temp, same as our ATS-V'S. We have the same LF4 engine, just lots more power

Hell, a $1000 tune and you are taking it in a roll race. The LF4 is a good engine, not quite S58, but very tuneable as well.
It's not a competition model. Need more then 5g worth of upgrades. Then you kill the warranty as well. Not with the M3 competition.

Now hp tuners just released a whole suite of tunes on the pcm and tcm and ebcm which costs about 3k after unlocking the pcm his but will have 660 at the wheels now!! So there you’re 5k in mods
You can hear it in the top rev range that the M3 has more power there

BMW's M cars will win the drag races and roll races, but Blackwings are for real drivers that enjoy more than just driving fast in a straight line. That's why the CT5 Blackwing is faster around a track than both the M3 and M5. If straight line acceleration is all that matters, buy yourself a soulless Tesla lol

I drove a ct4v blackwing and a is500, that Cadillac was quick, but felt so bland with that v6.. lexus felt just as fast, but wayyyyy funner to drive, actually made me feel something.
Build quality on the lexus blows the Cadillac away in every way also.. but i always eanted to see a drag race between the two out of curiosity. They both make 472 hp

They make around 500. But the differense is the curve. Its flat in terms of torq. Bmw engines are steong the whole way.

I’ve watched 2 videos with Sam and Cadillac and for some reason I’m not fully satisfied with his drive. When you have similar specs it’s a great idea to switch cars and drivers. It’s just an observation don’t hate on me, I own a 2023 Cadillac Ct5 V and love the power plus the look.

It should've been a clear win for the Cadi with the extra 40 ft lbs of torque but the BMW is obvioulsy making at least 100 hp more at the crank.
