  • Hi Guys, welcome back to the channel.
    With the News of XiaoMi bring out their first car I thought it was about time we talked about Chinese EVs...
    Over the last few years Chinese EV companies have taken over the market. Years ago Elon Musk didn't think much of BYD and the others and now they are taking over. What do you guys think? Would you buy an EV? A Chinese EV?
    Thank you for visiting our channel.

    Chinese EV makers don't have the same baggage that traditional/legacy manufactures have. It's going to take companies like VW a huge amount of resources to shift from ICE platforms to make EVs while most of the Chinese manufactures are newly founded. I thinks the fact that the whole EV manufacturing supply chain is very mature there in China is a huge reason why China's automative industry is booming right now. What the Chinese automotive industry lack are the knowhow to build good engine/transmission/chassis, which are not constraints in EV manufacturing. However I have to say that none of the Chinese EV manufactures are making any true "global product"--- the EV are more target to Chinese domestic market (which is huge). With that being said, i think the industry will continue to improve as the manufacturers getting more feed back from the market, and I'm really excited to see if China would lead the world in this EV market shifting.

      Excellent comment. Thank you. I think you are spot on. Fresh companies with fresh ideas. In the last couple of years I have seen more of an outward looking approach. I think unless there are heavy tariffs imposed on them then we will see more Chinese EVs being driven around the world.

      I'm an owner of two Audis( 2011 Q5 and 2015 A3), and recently I have test drove many new cars from both legacy manufacturers and Chinese EV makers. I have to say maybe the big names still have the so called " fun factors" from driving aspect, what the Chinese EVs are way ahead is the driver/passenger interface ---- I believe you must have experienced the same thing. Way back when you need to buy a super car to experience fast accretion but now EV can give you the same feeling. The fact that most people don't care or can't tell how different cars drive really kills the appalling factor for the big names. I'm a die hard petrol head and I certainly can't tell how the Audis that I own are any better to drive than the new EVS. Man ,EVs are fast and it just puts a smile on my face.@@TobyChina

    Many people in the UK are buying Chinese MG cars and not fully realising it's a Chinese car.

      You’re right. I think it was bought as part of the Rover take over. Literally took the factory half way round the world.

    Full disclosure, I'm an investor and ambassador for Aptera, based in San Diego. A 2 seater, 3 wheeled, fully enclosed autocycle with a drag coefficient of about 0.13 and getting about 10 miles per kilowatt hour. Almost all of the production parts are finalized at this time with most of the body being produced in Italy, batteries coming from Korea, and in wheel motors from Elaphe in Slovenia. Full production is expected by the middle of 2025.

      That was almost like an advert. What is an autocycle?

    • @billthacet
      @billthacet 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TobyChina An autocycle is a cross between a motorcycle and a car. (Gives it the advantages of both) I was pointing it out here, as it is not a traditional car, and also it is a non Chinese company. It's actually quite an interesting, and potentially amazing vehicle (To me at least) Hopefully it makes it to production. (They have passed all the porotype stages and are currently working on the production intent builds.) A Google search will bring up their website and numerous other reviews etc. Might be worth a look if you haven't seen it yet.

    Good luck to them trying to provide affordable EVs to everyone. About time the governments in the west stop getting in the way to favor Teslas which are inferior quality in comparison and much more expensive.

      I think every country/ province/state wants manufacturers provide jobs and tax income. So supporting Tesla or any other brand makes sense. Just wondering why China has so many brands compared to the rest of the world.
