Honda CR250 Full Restoration - Part 12 - Its Almost Time!

  • Another week and another huge step closer to having the CR250R fully restored and ready to ride.
    In todays video its mainly about bolting new and restored parts on the the beautifully painted frame so there really isn't too much to describe unless you want to read through a huge page of how i prepped and fastened all the nuts and bolts.
    A brief summary for the video would be the carb and airbox were fitted along with there vent hoses and overflow drains the filter isn't oiled as of yet but i will get to that. The electrics were put into place and tested for continuity, earthing and proper spark timing all of which im happy to say is spot on. The cooling system has been recommissioned too with the water pump being sorted in a previous episode and now it has all now silicone hoses aswell as totally restored and pressure cleaned radiators so the engine should run lovely and cool. Last on the list was the re-packing and fitting of the exhaust with new springs and seals to hopefully there wont be any spooge leakage from the expansion chamber where it meets the cylinder and that about covers it for this episode.
    Until next time stay safe,
    Enjoy
    RRC

    I tend to view many different motor repair/renovation channels. You have always ranked at the top of the list for me but i have only just realized why that is. You give off a relaxing vibe to all your videos because all we hear is the sound of a rachet click, the silence of a screw driver, the beep of a torque wrench and a cool Scottish accent! Not a noisy power tool in sight! Thanks for uploading, great channel, great content.

    Honda designed the bar clamps to be no gap at the front and any gap is on the back, so rotational forces don't allow the bars to roll back. the Clamps are milled uneven with a step, and that is why they have the punch mark on the front

    Re: handlebar clamps. I always tighten the front first then the back. I think I might have read to to it that way in a Haynes manual many moons ago, I can't think of any advantage to doing it that way now but am happy to blindly follow guidance from anywhere. I wouldn't use a torque wrench either but if I owned a Snap-on torque wrench that may change. I'd probs use it as often as I could.

    Great video as always! Usually is not something of our preference, just the handlebar piece comes prepared to leave no gap in the front and all in the rear side. It's done to simulate a one piece clamp. If the piece comes to leave gap in both sides, it's impossible to leave no gap as they won't match correctly face to face!

    • @calvincrow1244
      @calvincrow1244 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, what Ignacio said.
      If you put the clamp on a flat surface, the front part of the clamp will be flat on the surface and the back will be lifted of by a small amount. That's what the dot is for, to denote that there is a difference between the two ends of the clamp. The front hole (with the dot) is for fixing the clamps, and the rear is for clamping the bars.
      When I've assembled some new Suzukis in the past, the manufacturer has actually stated a different torque setting on front and back!

    • @gremlyn28
      @gremlyn28 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What Ignacio wrote is true. First tighten down side with the dot so there is no gap, then do the opposite side. That also goes for a lot of double crown forks/stems for downhill bicycles, various motorcycle brand stems/risers etc. It's same on my KTM, for example.

    This configuration on the torque wrench to tighten the handlebar bolts ads more torque due to the extension of the thingy.You have to clock the thingy 90 degrees in the axis of the torque wrench so that the longer extension doesn't effect the torque.Cheers from Greece!

    Great video as always. I'm not sure if you know this, or maybe you already accounted for it, but when you use a crows foot on a torque wrench, it has to be 90 degrees to the handle, otherwise the torque you read on the wrench is not the torque applied to the fastener.
    Obviously this isn't a critical fastener, but just in case you or anyone wasn't aware.

    When you tighten the front down with almost no gap and have a larger gap at the rear, it punches the bar more secure. My bars kept rotating on me, a racer told me this and I don’t think they moved anymore

    Love your channel! Thanks for all the work you put into this! One minor smart-ass comment: when using the claw wrench, the bit needs to be placed in a 90° angle not straight. When mounting it straight, you increase the lever length (turning point is not the center of the wrench head anymore) and therewith over-torque the bolts. It's no problem using a socket. Again, super minor issue... Great job making these detailed videos. Keep up the good work!!! 😊👍🏻👏🏻
