Probably the best Honda BF outboard videos on you tube! Appreciate the details. Just finished replacing everything on my new to me BF225, your videos were a huge help!
There are many video/tutorials on TH-cam on changing these seals, yours is one of the BEST! Well done explaining what we are looking at at every step along the journey, especially the shim part! I've heard about these shims and understand why they are there but this was the first time anybody showed the shim and how it all fit together. Very well done, thank you!
Great to see you doing another video mate. I am watching you all the way from Sydney Australia. I myself have the same outboards so I am so grateful that you made these videos. On a side note you should make more videos being out on your boat. At least 1-2 videos a week. I'm sure your channel will take off with more and more content coming out weekly. 🤙
You have a point. Lots of great Humpback experiences for sure. Maybe a different channel? I was trying to have this channel to help home outboard guys, like me, who can't always get to dealer. I also thought about making troubleshooting videos.
@@captainsean4851 Troubleshooting videos, like how to diagnose beeping check engine alarms would be much appreciated. I have one now that I think is either water in fuel or low oil pressure. I'm using your videos to locate the low pressure fuel filter and how to add oil. If you've never even seen under a cowling let alone worked on an outboard, these videos are a godsend. Unfortunately honda mechanics are hard to find (at least here in florida).
@@birdlaw483 9 times out of 10, for us, if the check engine light and noise are going, it's an O2 sensor (easy, but expensive fix). The year of your engine would depend on where the water filter is for the fuel so it's hard to say where to look, but you can follow the fuel line out of the low pressure filter and it will lead to the water separator before the fuel pumps. I would look into buying a shop manual online to troubleshoot check engine light.
You can use 2 sheet metal screws and put them into those prop shaft seals and use a claw hammer to wedge out on them to remove those seals without special tools.Just be sure not to screw the screws in too deep as you could screw up your bearings.
Why did you put both shaft Seals going the same direction that appears wrong they should but up to each other back to back water sealed one direction oil sealed opposite direction.
Hello thanks for these really informative videos I am from Malta Can you do a video for changing thermostats and anodes inside the exhausts ? Thanks and keep it up
Hi fella . Not sure if your still checking comments but do you know were to hook up a manual oil pressue gauge on one of these .. i have one throwing a oil pressure alarm but want to check it with a manual gauge so see if its a sensor or major but service manual says the high and low sensor is in the v of the motor and have to remove the heads to acces them .. but if thats the case you can run a manual gauge . So thought there might be a place externaly to run the gauge if you know at all
Hey, how many hours have you been putting on the Hondas before you repower? Do you notice having to replace the lower unit after a certain hour mark? Thanks! Appreciate the videos
So far I've replaced 1 motor and it had about 9400 hours on it. The next highest motor I have has a little over 7000 hours on it. As for lower units I don't keep track of them as much because we swap them all over and have water seals break and get certain gears repaired.
Found metal in my lower unit during a gear oil change. Clean oil. Plan to remove bearing carrier and look to see if I can see something. Any tips? Do you usually see some metal flacks on the plug. I do hear a slight knock in the mid-section of the motor. I suspect the knock is coming up from the lower unit.
Oil shavings, like really fine, more fine than sand, are common to find on your drain bolt (every 100 hrs I find them). Anything bigger, you may have an issue. If you pull the lower unit try turn the crankshaft clockwise by hand and see if you hear any noises to try and pin the problem area down. Also, I have seen worn out material ( from running aground, propping lines, debris, etc) in the prop. (material connects prop hub to outer housing). One of ours was so bad once we could put it in gear with the engine off and spin the prop by hand!)
I buy from outboardpartsnation but if you search online for OEM parts they should have other sites that might list it as well. I'm in Hawaii so I always factor shipping into my purchases. Your local Honda dealer could also get it for you.

@@captainsean4851 yep o2 sensor. Had a mechanic read code and confirm it. Already ordered part. Glad it was something simple.
instablaster...
Glad to see you back! As someone who used to maintain these outboards, I learned a lot from your videos!
Thank you, it's been a couple of busy years but I need to get back on the videos 🤙

I get them from outboardpartsnation and that had a lot to do with shipping to Hawaii.
are you in florida?
Nope, Hawaii
