Nice review. Let’s remember that this is an luxury SUV, not a sports car. I’t about the comfort and the 4’ of travel in the air suspension for snow. It’s the best Quattro ever because it has instant torque vectoring. It has doubled pain glass for a quiet ride.
For a family oriented EV, this nearly tops the list. Audi interiors are incredibly well put together and the MMI & Virtual cockpit is definitely worth the price of admission. The other EV I look forward to is the Polestar 2. I personally can't stand Teslas or their toxic fanbase myself.
I bought a 22 Tesla Model 3 Performance. It's not that audacious. Very few people know what it is. So far, nobody has talked to me about it. The steering is as quick and as responsive as you can handle. I think you are missing an important point. Tesla has an advantage not knowing how to build a common "car". My Tesla handles like something entirely new, phenomenal! That's because they started completely clean slate and designed an incredible handling and performing machine, "from the ground up". The weight is so low and so evenly balanced front to back, it's a HUGE impact upon cornering characteristics. Changes to steering can be dialed in by the user. Although Tesla isn't perfect it's totally amazing. They got the important stuff incredibly well engineered. The stuff that isn't perfect, I'm taking care of and it's not much at all. It's surprisingly tight and well built. Finally in 2022 they are doing a good job with assembly on top of incredible design engineering. When I want a relaxing commuter ordinary drive, my car does that. When I want crazy performance, it can do that too. The choice is up to the driver.
correct. I honestly do not know...the downshift paddle might just engage regen so it feels like engine drag. I didn't play with it long enough to figure that out
You can set the regen or 'engine braking' with the paddle shifters to change from one-pedal driving to for example just rolling when releasing the accelerator.
I wanna drive my rumbling C63 all the time. Sitting in traffic I love feeling it rumbling ever so slightly beneath me. I might even like to feel and hear it a bit more at low/no speed (poly engine mounts and headers 😏) I may be low key stressed out cause I can barely afford it, but the way it makes me grin ear to ear when it's ripping and snorting and popping off down shifts is SO worth it 🥰
I’m offended by the Nissan Maxima/Model 3 drivers! I’ve owned both (1991 Maxima and 2019 Model 3). I use blinkers and drive conservatively in traffic and around others. LOL! There, that’s out of the way. That said, I do love the power delivery of the Audi over the Tesla. I also owned a Model Y and sold it. Didn’t want to have two Teslas and just like you said, my son was driving the Y and he’s 16...no bueno. Sold it to get him a Niro PHEV. Now I’m looking for the replacement for my Model 3 and the Audi is tops on my list. Was going to buy this over the 3 when it originally came out, but range was very low, and there were issues with the charging function, causing possible fires, so Audi stopped selling them in the very beginning. Now that they have that worked out, this is a winner! Now having owned EVs for 2 years, range is not as important as I thought it was. Even going on long trips with my Teslas (600 miles plus) I’m stopping every 1.5 hours at max anyway, which is about every 100 miles, so don’t really need more than 200 miles of range in total. And, from what I’m seeing, the Audi charging speed is better than the TESLA. Tesla has a max speed it’ll charge at, but you rarely get it, and when you do, it’s at that rate for very short times. The Audi can sustain that 150kw charging rate for a much longer time, filling up faster. That was there sales pitch in the beginning and I didn’t buy it. But, now I agree with them. Great review. And, let’s get it straight, EVs are NOT GOOD for the environment...they are just less bad. It’s like comparing cigars and cigarettes...both are terrible, one is less terrible...I like them more for the power delivery smoothness. Don’t care for modern small engines with turbos where there is a lot of lag (yes, even in Porsche 911s and their 6 cylinder turbos unless you get the 911 Turbo or Turbo S for 150k+ - I’ve owned Porsches).
Love your driving impression reviews! It'd be great to see you review a 2021 model 3 performance or something similar! We all know Tesla has their flaws (what car maker doesn't) but I'd love to see your take on that driving experience as a practical yet powerful family sedan nowadays. I also think people just talk about them so much because it was such a shock that a relatively affordable car comes with that level of performance and efficiency regardless of if their drivers can handle it, and no other car company has utilized tech in this day and age to the utility that they have. Other car companies are now replicating what Tesla has done but with their own expertise and it's bringing about great cars just like this E-Tron and many others. In that sense they're going to become a classic down the road... Not saying Model 3 owners should drive like they own the road because hey, gotta respect the drive :)
I’m pretty sure an e-tron is my next vehicle. Tesla is opening up their Superchargers, and companies are about to introduce NACS/CCS adapters. That takes care of the charging infrastructure problem, and the lack of range the e-tron has will no longer be a real issue.
it's funny you bring up the tesla driver thing, had a regular mom fly by me the other day at like at least 90mph, while i was in my si and im like bro????? LOL
That's one of the biggest problems in this country, if you got the money and our one type of license, you can get 700hp car with no issue. No skills needed just get in, hit the gas pedal and potentially take a life while swiping right
6:44 you won't burn a bunch of fuel to warm up the interior but you will use up a bunch of electricity, which was produced in a coal burning power station. Smart.
VAG have a loyal customer base, so when they produce an EV, it may not have the longest range, but the tolerance of the Taycan or E Tron battery is something like 10%. A Tesla is 1/2%, meaning the Porsche and Audi aren’t being stressed out constantly when charging or discharging. It’s the same engineering principle as to why elevators are rated at carrying 8 people but they are actually engineered to carry 14. They are aiming for long term reliability with the battery packs as opposed to range, it probably explains why the Audi does much better in cold conditions than Tesla’s. Audi need this car to work for millions of people where as people buy Tesla’s knowing they are a niche, beta technology with shortcomings, with little to no reliability reputation to uphold.
Audi is like OnePlus and Tesla is like Apple. This interior looks so much nicer, build quality is not even comparable frankly, and it drives/handles better Why would you want a Tesla over this? Just for the cool factor I assume.
Love your style of videos man, keep up the great work! To your point about Teslas being a conversation piece, that also depends where you live - here in SoCal, a Tesla is what you buy to blend in! They’re so common that no one really goes out of their way to ask about my Model 3 here haha. I could see it being a factor for introverts in other areas though!

No reviews on the Mach E until the embargo is lifted and the Model Y is pretty cheap inside with the same numb driving characteristics of the 3. It's not a bad car, but its more of a gadget than a driving machine. Tesla's autopilot tech is incredible and worth taking into account when hunting for EVs
I would definitely get one we just need more range on that etron man , I'm definitely waiting for future updates, also let's see the new model y in 2024 , but those 2 SUVs are my favorite
I live in a country where electric cars are sold through grey market, and they are extremely rare. This must be common sense but for every electric car, do the charging port doors stay shut when you press the button and the keys are out of range?
7:02 . An ICE could have that function too. Signal it with your phone to start the car 2 minutes before you drive off. But yes in a garage it could be an issue. Also if you get a check engine light every month then you need to buy a batter car. I have a mitsubishi L300/Delica Turbo diesel van with an aftermarket intercooler for more horsepower. Its making about 160HP . Currently it has 300.000 miles. I've replaced the clutch ONLY once at 180.000 miles. It gets aproximatelly 30MPG which is good for such an old car. Also since its a diesel it got plenty of torque down the low. I can overtake at 4th speed without downshifting and when going slow i don't even have to use the clutch. It can slowly crawl at 400RPM without using the gas and clutch pedal. If i want to pull i just hit the gas. It got some serious torque down the low. I am talking 500RPM at 2nd gear pulling on a hill (off roading not on road). Of course you got the oil and filter changes which gives the electrics an advantage. But still, is changing a filter at your home that big of a task? What i think is that car manufacturers don't make gas cars reliable on purpose(filters and oils aside). And i think thats how it will go for electric cars too. A gear from the instant torque will break, a sensor will fail, the inverter will burn etc. I think if we develop diesel engines even more and use biodiesel which reduces the carbon dioxide by A LOT, they will be a good replacement for gas engines from all prespectives. Gas engines are better at making high end power though
i agree with your quote on tesla drivers, in L.A , ever since the model 3 had gotten cheaper with the tax credit and ev reward program , the teens driving it have been very aggressive on it , they’re becoming the new prius drivers 😭 . it’s mostly the owners of model 3 , barely seen any bad model s or x drivers .
Moved before the Tesla invasion, but during my masspike and route 95 years I definitely dodged many a Maxima cowboy, usually with Rhode Island or New Jersey tags
Serious question Tedward. You used to talk about the need for lobbying to protect car enthusiasts. I am totally in support of the EV revolution but I don't support governments trying to infringe on rights of gas car owners and also not allowing a small proportion of gas cars to be produced for specialty reasons. Are you thinking of doing more on this front?
I don't know that I've spoken about lobbying but I think automakers are doing a good job of selling to their market. For example SUV's are now more common than Sedans because that's what people buy. As long as people still purchase sports cars with fun powertrains I think they'll produce them. I agree that I don't want to see governments outlaw Internal Combustion Engines. I would hope they find better ways to control carbon emissions rather than put it all on the auto industry.
@@TedwardDrives Yeah I agree, I think for 95% of purposes EVs are great. Most Western countries will follow the model of banning new IC cars completely between 2030-2040, depending on where. UK and Europe will come first, then North America. I think it's an issue that we car enthusiasts need to pay attention to and make our voice heard, when governments come to outlawing production of a small percentage of gas cars that would have a tiny impact on emissions. I think even allowing hybrids to continue are important (and also for people who don't live in houses and have easy access to charging)
@tedward what is the deal with the cold and the range with the electric and especially with e-tron? and how can you tell your car from your phone to warm up the cabin?
ngl, as a person that loves ICE cars, I wouldn't mind this or Honda E for my daily commute. Quiet & Comfy, it doesn't tease you into modifying it. I'm kinda thinking about getting a daily electric car at some point, not sure when yet. But like you say, it's less things to worry about, you just get into it and you drive. Can't do same with my project car lol
Imagine if your daily required NO attention...Your project would get done sooner. But we still have do maintenance on our beaters which takes away from the real projects
@@TedwardDrives agreed! That's the only reason why I'm leaning towards EV! I like the comfy feel of my mum's daily, quiet, it doesn't make you wanna flooring everywhere you go, it's just a daily haha With my car, you constantly wanna hear it, so it sips fuel, isn't as comfy on very long journeys (it's fine, but a bit bumpy haha), and my car breaks down sometimes, small things usually, but can be annoying!
Do you think performance cars will die off with the development of EVs? Or do you thing they can replicate the visceral experience of downshifts and finding the power band well enough to have enthusiasts want an electric car?
I hope they don't try to make EV's feel like ICE cars. I want them to be their own honest driving experience. A fake downshift would drive me nuts lol. As long as they have great steering, suspension, and brakes I think folks will adopt performance EV's as "real cars".
@@TedwardDrives at that point do you think ICE will become so irrelevant that they stop making parts and consumables such as gas and oil? Or will those still be made for a long time but on a smaller scale for enthusiasts and people who can’t get an EV yet?
Porsche already have. The Taycan has a 2 speed gearbox for both efficiency and high end speed. The upcoming Audi E Tron GT (based of the Taycan) also has a gearbox.
Great Video as always, but I'm interested about your Views on EV sustainability. My own research from the British Royal Society of Chemistry shows that Lithium and Cobalt are both at the highest level of global supply risk. So do you think EVs are a viable long term solution?
I'm honestly not smart enough to have that conversation on a macro scale. I think its wise to have diversification of fuels though. I love the idea that the solar panels on my house can charge my car if there were a disruption in gasoline supplies
Don't worry, the next battery technology which will make your car able to go 326413798570891437820934 miles on a quarter of a charge is coming out tomorrow, I've been hearing about it for years so it must be on its' way, trust me the technology will be released any second now. It will be made entirely without any Lithium or Cobalt but exclusively from recycled diapers or something. If we don't get the technology tomorrow then we should probably focus on diversification of fuels indeed, for example Bentley using biofuels in their GT3 cars deserves more attention than EVs as long as EVs are luxury items and are far from being ready to take over in the future.
thats the problem with most new ev cars nowadays, they make it really really futuristic and ugly looking, but audi kept its good body and design and just swapped out the shit that made it drive. amazing work by audi i say.
It's not that i dislike electric cars for being electric, I like that new technology, its pretty cool and i admire the torque you can get from them, but it is the fact they are threatening to completely replace ICE cars, not because they are better in every way but because they are seen as better for the environment when that isn't always true, I would rather a world where they co exist.
One thing that keeps me from getting an electric car is.. will it run without any issues just like my petrol BMW that is 19 years old and has 200.000 km ( 124.274 miles ) after like.. 10 years even?
Kilowatt to Kilowatt, an EV is no more efficient than a combustion engine. Aside from oil in changes, the big difference in the running costs is that the government is not taxing electricity at ~25% as they do gas or (sometimes more) diesel fuel. Historically politicians have hesitated taxing they way people heat their homes. When gas tax revenues fade with the rise of EV's -- how long do you think that this will continue? When some claim that EVs are "emissions free", this is false. All that you are doing is transferring your emissions to your local power utility. Unless they are nuke, they are emitting emissions. Wind and solar are not widespread enough to count for much. Still a nice car though.
Never hated a car as much as Tesla. Extremely cheap looking interior to the point my wife and a couple of friends said it straight up!! I sold that junk and got a X5M BMW. LOVE IT. Tesla is a computer controlled car that is waaaaaaaaaay overpriced AS A MENTAL GAME to get you to think it's something special!! It's actually not anything special at all. This Audi looks absolutely amazing and who cares about speed .... if i want I'll drive my M car ...
The average buyer of these things probably cares mor about the screen size an what apps are on there than the car itself. Maybe range but thats pretty much it. I will not be interested in any electric car until someone comes up with something affordable and simple.
First/last ev was a Volt. Went from being worth 45k to 11k in only two years. Biggest issue with Evs, they're so new they don't retain value. On top of that now, my new home doesn't have a garage, so yeah...can't charge. I'm betting on hydrogen. Too many issues with electric.
Slowly but surely I'm accepting the fact that eventually it will be all electric and heavy taxes will exist for combustion motor vehicles etc. I'm okay with it if it's cheaper to run but there's talks already about heavy taxes. Also there aren't many cheap electric cars, and eventually as technology improves and they've existed for a while the cheap ones will be the cars you dont want to buy as they'll have terrible range and issues. However I appreciate how quiet they are, but driving a quiet vehicle can have its downsides too, such as constantly noticing the sound of the tyres on the road. Tyre noise is terrible.

The VW Group makes some solid vehicles in my opinion. Sure they might be more on the pricey side, but seriously, their cars are pretty good. In retrospect, my grandfather always owned at least one VW... He currently has an Arteon. Man I love that car.
As a tall driver 6'5" with 2 adult riders that are 6'2" we love the interior room and comfort as well as the great ride experience of our own 2021 audi e-tron quattro peremium plus. My 5'1" wife is enjoying it too :)

Nice review. Let’s remember that this is an luxury SUV, not a sports car. I’t about the comfort and the 4’ of travel in the air suspension for snow. It’s the best Quattro ever because it has instant torque vectoring. It has doubled pain glass for a quiet ride.
I like it, very nice interior, normal door handles, good but not crazy power... That's what we want from a consumer electric car!
I can't wait until we have solid options in the $30k range. It will be a lot easier to pull the trigger on an EV daily
I just started watching your videos , by far my new favorite car reviewer because it's so entertaining , keep up the good work !

Thank you!
Great video...I really like the etron...now even more so. Great build quality and love it’s design. Thanks for reviewing!
Why does it have paddle shifters? Don’t electric cars have no “transmission”?
I might even like to feel and hear it a bit more at low/no speed (poly engine mounts and headers 😏) I may be low key stressed out cause I can barely afford it, but the way it makes me grin ear to ear when it's ripping and snorting and popping off down shifts is SO worth it 🥰
Nobody cared dude 😂
Its really nice that they didn’t try to make it weird and ugly like everyone else does with ev’s. It just looks like a normal audi.
Great work! I really enjoy it
Thank you!
I’d rather have the E-tron over the Tesla. Great customer service and has 3 screens 💖 also it’s always a Prius 😅
I’m pretty sure an e-tron is my next vehicle. Tesla is opening up their Superchargers, and companies are about to introduce NACS/CCS adapters. That takes care of the charging infrastructure problem, and the lack of range the e-tron has will no longer be a real issue.
this car is truly interesting i wonder if they maybe would make another electric car from the audi group using this platform

NOTHING in the WORLD is safer than a TESLA , period.

At last an EV that feels like you're driving a car, not like you're part of an experiment.
agreed...this doesn't feel like a beta product
Great video! totally agree with your thoughts about EVs
Audi is like OnePlus and Tesla is like Apple.
This interior looks so much nicer, build quality is not even comparable frankly, and it drives/handles better
Why would you want a Tesla over this? Just for the cool factor I assume.
Odd, the end of the video cuts you off in mid sentance

Love your style of videos man, keep up the great work! To your point about Teslas being a conversation piece, that also depends where you live - here in SoCal, a Tesla is what you buy to blend in! Nice but not worth the price, I prefer Mach E or Model Y
@@TedwardDrives Agree, waiting for my Mach E delivery January. Review is coming Mid Dec.
Dude, was this a Prestige trim or something lower? Sorry, I understand this was a few years ago. Maybe you said it and I missed it.
Tedward,

ngl, as a person that loves ICE cars, I wouldn't mind this or Honda E for my daily commute.
I like the comfy feel of my mum's daily, quiet, it doesn't make you wanna flooring everywhere you go, it's just a daily haha
With my car, you constantly wanna hear it, so it sips fuel, isn't as comfy on very long journeys (it's fine, but a bit bumpy haha), and my car breaks down sometimes, small things usually, but can be annoying!
I am trying to like electric cars but without a lovely exhaust/engine noise, I can't do it.
Wouldn’t it make sense to put transmissions in electric cars so you can get better range
Porsche already have. The Taycan has a 2 speed gearbox for both efficiency and high end speed. The upcoming Audi E Tron GT (based of the Taycan) also has a gearbox.
Thank god they got rid of those stupid digital side-mirrors from first gen(2020)
They were never legal in the US so we only ever got these mirrors here
Great Video as always, but I'm interested about your Views on EV sustainability.
Mk4 mk4
Yes. You know the way
thats the problem with most new ev cars nowadays, they make it really really futuristic and ugly looking, but audi kept its good body and design and just swapped out the shit that made it drive. amazing work by audi i say.
I see that this Audi E-tron has regular mirrors and not those camera ones that were so problematic
I don't think the camera ones are even legal in the US, but they looked like a total pain to use

Tesla is the new BMW driver attitude. Aggresive.
Typhus - better than typhoid fever?
😂
My house runs entirely on solar. If I plugged an ev into my home it would be running off the sun.

Hydrogen will be very cool. I haven’t driven one yet. It definitely seems to be the cleanest concept right? Air in water out.
@@TedwardDrives Yeah, and most likely for big fuel companies to invest in as you pump it like gas into the gar. Infrastructure is already there.
So quiet I’m kinda unnerved
