    Golden advice: if you need to creep towards the charger, always use eco drive setting. This changes the sensitivity of the accelerator. I always change when i need to manœuvre on tight places

    Great video and much thanks for doing the stats..I just did a quick look review on a friends 2021 Audi e-Tron Sportback and was very impressed with it and the charging curve both Audi and Porsche have engineered into their vehicles. Real world in winter is the worst case scenario so to get 230kms at all highway speeds in -10C temps IMO, is pretty good. To be honest my 2020 Tesla Model 3 LR does not do too much better than that in reality. Keep up the great work!

    Yeah, same problems in germany too. I often park like a true a..hole to come as close to the cable as possible. My chargeport was recently changed due to a recall, but the problem persists, so we stand in Rain, Ice and Snow besides our cars and hold a cable. Somewhat ridiculous but it is as it is.

  • @ronaldjanssen105
    @ronaldjanssen105 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The connection problem is also due to the connection pin (CP) being a bit shorter than the other pins (look on the car, you will notice it righjt away once you know :-) ). This is to make sure that connection is always broken before the DC pins are unplugged. Therefore there's no risk of the plug being powered while unplugged. Fastned chargers here in NL also had that problem.

    I feel for you bro!!! I would be so upset if that happened to my E Tron (the damage, I don't have an Etron, wish I did :-P). I'm surprised they don't have a creep function. Wonder if they could add one in via a software update. Speaking of which, have you had any updates since you've had the car via OTA or by going back to the dealership?

    Dude, our BEV has charge port in same location. If there is nobody around, we park perpendicular to the parking space lines to get close without so much cable strain. But usually we are only ones at site.

    Kris, very sorry to hit your eTron, just know one of the very first thing we did was enable Auto-Hold .. this way the call does not rollback when you let off the brakes, and moving off auto-hold slowly is very easy .. best of luck ..
    Great 👍 content as always .. keep them coming..

    Could you do this test that so you charged the car last night and start the test next morning with a totally cold car and battery?

    • @ronb4633
      @ronb4633 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not good for Lithium batteries to be be sitting overnight at 100%. Optimal is if you have home charging to set your departure time and have it alget to 100% just prior to departure and also set preheating of the cabin.

    Thanks Kris for this test just what i needed to see, as i often drive the same road that you did the test on and at the same speed, so for me a perfect test 🙂👍. As i’m getting a dog i have started to look into the e-tron and it seem’s to be the correct car until something more efficient comes on the market (in that size). Har to let my Polestar PP go, but let’s hope Polestar 3 will have a bigger trunk 🤪

      I always use the regular, *non-wide angle* front camera. Even though it requires an extra key-press if you park nose in. Then you can see exactly how close the front lip is to the object. Maybe Kris did, it can of course still happen.. Just a tip for you and others who are new to the e-tron. Hope you have a lot of those Finnish Kempower chargers.. 😉 th-cam.com/video/EmuIolKO0qo/w-d-xo.html Congratulates with the car. Think you will be super happy with the range in real life, mixed driving. Keep us posted!

    @Kris: I would really apreciate if you do the same kind of charging test with the e-tron 50. Even if the difference in charging speed between the 50 and the 55 is not so extremely significant in summer temperatures, it seems like the 50 does not have the same ability to get the same increasing of speed during the charging session in cold weather as the 55 has.

  • @tureek

    In Switzerland we have same issue with those chargers but here this chargers called MOVE. Its soo annoying the cable are sooo short, a lot of people complain but nothing changes.

  • @pascaldeneve
    @pascaldeneve 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you use comfortheating to get the cabin warm, before connecting to a charger ? Seems there's no way to heat up the battery when standing out overnight; a preheated battery will load faster.

  • @joanygaard
    @joanygaard 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hard driving to heat up the battery doesn't seem to have any effect on E-Tron from my testing using Obdeleven to monitor battery temperature. Regarding the claim that E-tron will only actively heat the battery if it is below -10 deg. C, I would guess that is battery temperature, not ambient temperature. AFAIK the source of this claim is an official VAG/Audi self study program manual/PDF for employees/staff. It would be nice to have known your battery temperatures on that Ionity charge session.

    Sad to see your car damaged :(
    But I don't understand why.. You're standing there alone, with that horrible chargeport location, why do you park in the lines? Park a little off-set or at an angle will give you a lot more cable to work with, or you don't have to park that close..

  • @omelvold
    @omelvold 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Please beware of the fact that your ending point is about 100 meters (300 ft) higher than your starting point. Doesn't sound like a lot, but the road from Dal to Oslo includes a lot of rolling/regen/easy terrain. To illustrate this, Bjørn used only 6%, (about 4,2 kWh) on the last 34 kms of this stretch last week, in the 2021 Model 3 LR. th-cam.com/video/FqGR6X5Wfhc/w-d-xo.html That's a net consumption of only 123 Wh/km. Even if you doubled that, it would bring your average down. 🙂
    Other than that, great video and well documented. 👍 Yes, we want more! What about a test with less motorway? like a mountain run from Ionity Øyer-Dombås-Folldal-Venabygd-Ionity Øyer? I think you can make it, 334 kms, if it gets a bit warmer. However, as long as you get to Kiwi Venabu, 265 kms. you can always roll down to Ringebu and bail out. Or, you can start/end at Ringebu.. Easier to do, but a little less spectacular; Sandvika-Hokksund-Haglebu-Flå-Sandvika, 270 kms.

Wow this is the first time I see an E-tron parked properly in front of 1 charger and not in the middle of two chargers...So annoying for the rest of ev drivers here in Norway... I hope Audi places the charging port differently in future models. It will benefit all of us , Audi and non Audi drivers. Godt nyttår!

      TeslaBjøinn 2 the rescue: th-cam.com/video/2qvCxjX_cYc/w-d-xo.html
      Most likely, your starting with a way too cold battery. (Guessing) and the car will focus on heating it before adding voltage.
      Audi UI sadly does not have an indicator of battery temp.
      Perhaps an audi-compatible OBD (11?) dongle can give you that info

  • @thomasd1531

      You get used to it - it's a bit like driving a standard manual transmission. You can also touch the throttle very, very gently and the car will move forward exceptionally slowly. Does take a bit of practice and if you even blip the accelerator, it will jump for sure. But you can move the car at an incredibly slow speed. But like all EVs it also has a lot of mass, and hence momentum!
